I booked the stripe Bass , Bluefish trip, only to be told once we arrived, that it's a porgy trip!...? even though I spoke to a person when I booked, and she verified, Stripers/Blues. So since we are here already....now here is the kicker, we had to buy 40 bucks of sand worms because the "clam bait" they provided don't really work... Now for the crew, helpful but, unprofessional to say the least. foul language in the presence of my wife and 2 other females. The captain i believed tried to land us some fish but failed. It was the Labor Day Monday fishing trip, father and daughter. Of course, the fishing boat was crowded. The weather was excellent and the fishes we caught were porkies and other various species. My daughter had a great experience. The staff and other passengers were friendly. It is well worth it, at the end, the staff to expertly clean and gutted our fishes for a small tip. Bring food and drinks on board for the trip. Do not forget the extra paper towels. Parking was available. The staff provided some bait and we purchased some worms. We had steamed fishes for dinner, super fresh tasting. read more

Terrible experience. I drove 1 hr to get there and waited 30 min for the crew member to eat his pizza. Then after all of that they cancelled because they had 9 people and needed 10. Ive been here many times before but dont think i will be coming back again because of the terrible service i had today. I looked at the ticket and it says the only reason a charter may be cancelled is due to severe weather, and even in that case, all the people who have reserved must be contacted at least 1 hour before. Seemed like they care about their own financial interests much!!! more than their customers satisfaction, and as a result, lost 4 regulars. In addition for the times that i have gone, the crew is rude and smoke right in your face, and dont move even if you politely ask the too. read more

Took my daughter fishing on this boat a couple of times. The crew is friendly, knowledgeable and patient with children. Equipment is in good condition. I highly recommend this boat, especially for family fishing trips. read more

We went fishing yesterday. One crew member exactly asked for $25 for cleaning fish. I thought this crew member was joking but he was not. We paid $65 for one trip and that means we need to pay additional 40% to get this service. Giving 20% tip is normal on a party boat but I never heard crew member set price for cleaning fish. If we need to pay extra fee for fish cleaning, they need to mention this on its website. Paying $25 is not a big deal and the way the crew member did makes me upset. I will not go with this boat any more. read more

A friend and I went Cod fishing on the Island Current in Wakefield Rhode Island on March 7th 2014. All I can say is that it was an expensive boat ride. We fished seven different Waypoints and nothing was caught on a full day of fishing. Twenty people were very upset with the trip. Some even gave up and just sat in the cabin. Capt. Yesterday my friend and I went on the 8am porgy fishing trip. This was the best fishing trip I had ever been on in my 10 years of fishing. Captain Dan actually came down and interacted with the people on the boat which is something you never see. The mates showed us how to properly take the fish off the hooks so we didn't have to wait for them every time we caught a fish. I started off to a slow start but after a few helpful hints from the captain I caught over 30 fish. It was awsome. Will definitely go back. read more

I went on the Island Current 4 for Porgi Fishing (Groupon). Oh boy. It was a tough one. Not because we didn't catch fish, because everyone did catch some fish, and some keepers. That wasn't the problem. The problems were: 1) We left 20 minutes late. 2) They only have clams on board for bait and the Mates kept telling everyone to buy Sand Worms 3) The boat is gross. Nobody cleans it and most of it is falling apart. They don't care about the looks 4) 2 1/2 hours it took us to get to our first stop (We finally dropped out lines around 10:45am. 5) After no bites for 5 minutes- 30 minutes to drive to another spot. We did catch some fish there for a little 6) Drove all the way back to the first spot wasting 30 more minutes. We did catch a few fish. Nothing any different from the other spot. Just wasted 30 minutes. 7) On the drive back, the boat slowed to a snails pace as the Engine Broke!!!! Tooks almost 3 hours to get back to port!!!!!!! 8) No drinks are sold on board- why? Just have a cooler! Easy money, we were thirsty with the long ride home. 9) Mates were FISHING the entire time and not helping. Only one mate was trying to help people while the others smoked and fished. Way to do your job guys! 10) Bathrooms- Really? Clean them and make sure they work. Ours has Poop on the seat from the time we boarded...clearly they don't clean them. No toilet paper Take some pride in your boat! People want to go fish and have a good time! They don't want the place to stink, be dirty and have the boat break on them. It was an awful experience. Yes we caught fish. But we only had 3 hours to fish on an 8 hour fishing trip. Something isn't right if that's the case. Unfortunately I will try another company in the future as this one left a really poor taste in my mouth. Terrible!! I usually use my yelp account to review other reviews, but I had to write this review. I bought my groupon and attempted to use it today, arrived at 7am - with a departure at 8am, and what a terrible terrible terrible mistake. After sitting on the boat for nearly an hour, we were told that we didn't "e-reserve", so we didn't have fishing rods... as the boat became more congested, they kept on taking on more and more guests without doing basic math of counting the number of people vs rods on board. It's not rocket science, but these guys definitely seem to be in need for a basic math class. I can't even believe they allowed that many people on board... if i didn't know any better, it seemed like a new years booz cruise. So, after being told that we waited one hour and had no fishing rods, we debarked and requested a refund at 8:30 (and mind you the boat was supposed to leave at 8). I think if someone wants to learn how to get 1 star, they should operate like the Island Current. Bravo! What a horrible experience and we'll definitely NEVER come back. read more

I bought my Groupon tickets back in March and used them yesterday and back in August. Each time was a waste. The captain drove the boat out east for over an hour taking his sweet time. A total of 2 fish was on the boat for the whole night. The mates suck, the boat was filthy, and the attitude of the captain sucks. Someone complained to him and he threatened over the PA system to return to the dock. Don't ever purchase Groupon tickets for party boat fishing. I should have learned my lesson because I bought tickets last year for a Captree State Park party boat. That boat advertized night time bluefish and striped bass fishing. Got on the boat for the night trip and after we left the dock the mate says we are fishing for fluke. I've never heard of night fluke fishing. Well zero fish on the boat that night. It is a total scam. The attitude of the crew was exactly the same. They already have your money and resent that the fares paid half price. Stay away from Groupon for party boat fishing. read more

If I could go negative stars I would, Iam an avid fisherman and have been on party boats from maine to key west. This has to be one of the worst run operations I have ever seen. I have fished with them before and it has been a hit or miss. Thats not the problem, When I went to go out this morning, on my birthday no less, the boat was so over packed with people and coolers I could not find a spot. So I said well not today and decided to get off the boat, at which time the mate sees me leave and says hold on Ill get you a spot. O.K. the spot he arranged was between two peopl with coolers stacked all over and he expected me to reach over the coolers to fish. I politly said I was getting off and the mate said "oh well f--- it". Then I got off and went to the parking lot and my car was blocked in so I said to the mate in the parking lot if he could get the one person to move there car, he said i will get them to move. 20 min later I called the captain and hesaid he would not get the person to move the car and hung up on me. I called back to him saying one word "no" and hung up on me again. I tell you he told me the first time to wait until the boat returns, and that was 8 hours. They are rediculouse and have lost myself and 6 others as customers. THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES. read more

Overall I had a decent experience yesterday(8am)but it could have been better. The following negatives(things they can improve upon) from start to finish in my opinion. 1) The Welcome: I don't expect a red carpet but it would be nice to have a check in at 551 City Island Ave. A lot of cars at the place and a lot of folks floating around. I saw the people with Island fleet shirts, they did seem distracted and we're obviously not looking for the new people who are not expert sailors or fisherman. 2) The parking: The zerve booking said free parking. However, when I got out of the car to find someone to ask where to park, the following was the question I heard several times during the day. Are you charter or open boat? At 7:30am it is not the easiest question. I would hope they would offer to figure out by looking at the ticket. I had to say it is the $65 ticket for both of us to realize it is the open boat. At this time they pointed us to a parking lot down the street. At this parking they charged us $5 even after I told the guy per instruction that we ordered through zerve. His apt response was that his parking lot was not affiliated with that. Interestingly later on the deck hands said that it should have been free. At 730 I don't feel like arguing for $5. 3) The boat: The boat which was supposed to be open was half charter for whatever reason which meant that you could not sit at the front of the boat after we sat ourselves there first. Hindsight, The boat was old, which was ok. What was not ok was the horrible shape of the bathroom. The faucet did not work and the toilet missed the cover behind the seat and supposedly only the deck hands knew how to flush( no knob). Lastly, the boat was sold out which meant that it was tight to fish and led to a lot of crossed lines, which gets annoying after 8 hours. 4) Bait: I called 2 weeks prior to understand what I need to bring. The person on the phone said that you don't have to bring anything for fishing and that they provide the bait. As a result we did not buy anything. However, one we were on the boat you come to realize that it is almost impossible to catch anything with the clams and you really need wor so. The deck hand even said it will be a long day. however, to deck hand was kind enough to give us some worms, which felt like a strong reminder that you really have to tip me later. If you had a welcome booth at the beginning and told folks about buying worms it would have been much more helpful. 5) tipping: this is always awkward. The people at the boat were great and a lot of fun. However the tipping or how to tip was awkward since one of the deckhands went around with a bag collecting and you also tipped the person who cleansed the fish. Much more helpful in my opinion if they said that everything given is shared between them all. These guys worked really hard and they deserve a tip but if you are not sure how it is split, I personally hesitated in the amount to give. Overall, I love the no frills ride and we caught a lot of fish. I laughed a lot and the people on the boat were much fun, however as a Bronx resident I hope Islamd fleet can step up their game in service and just common courtesy. They need to work as a team from the point someone arrives at the address until someone leaves. read more

Here is our Sunday, March 6...read and decide if this is how you want to spend your hard earned money! Boarded boat at 4:30am to the horrible smell of (6) bags of rotting clam shells:) They sat there all 10 hours of our trip. Air temp was 30-40 degrees. Looking forward to getting out of the cold into a warm cabin on the way out to our three hour ride to catch fish. Umm...there was NO heat in the cabin. Okay...maybe a hot coffee? No food or drink...not even water. On to the bathroom (head)...there were two. Neither had a locking door. Neither had lights to see where you were or what you may see. What did I see? Toilets backed up with @$&$ that couldn't be flushed! Backed up all over the place! And no running water to wash your very dirty hands! The one mate took a pool for the largest fish. We never heard another word on the pool. Who won? Did the mate take the money? We will never know! The worse and most upsetting thing was they never gave any Coast Guard Required Safety Instructions. Yes, most people don't listen, but come on! People need to know where the life jackets and life boats are if this boat even has them! Save your money! Do not give this company your business! Wondering why Captain is not responding? Because their boats are gross and disgusting? Not catching fish is not the problem! Everything else written above is! read more

Not a good place to go fishing. Out of 4 hours barely got 2 hours of fishing. All they want is your money. Will not come back there.

After calling several times to confirm my trip I arrived at the dock and was told by Carl that we could not sail because the boat was full. When I told him I called to confirm he told that's the owners wife who answers the phone and all she does is sit on her ass in an office in Connecticut. We pleased with Carl and the captain and as we were about to walk away they then told us they will allow us on the boat even though the coast guard states they can only have 17 people on the boat. Later carl told me he let us on because we weren't assholes..... however the entire trip carl shouted, slammed things, and cursed at customers... we were taken to 2 area that out of the whole 19 people on the boat only 6 fish were caught. Because of Carl's atrocious behavior we along with most of the other passengers chose not to tip Carl. When exiting we realized the gate was locked and we were unable to remove our vehicle from the premise. We again pleaded with Carl who told us he didn't have a key and we have to wait until 5 am to remove our car. We then spoke with captains Lloyd and Jimmy who both also told us they did not have a key and began taking pictures of our vehicle. Then Captain Jimmy began shouting at us demanding we leave without our vehicle or he would call 911. When we stood our ground and refused to leave all of a sudden someone showed up with a key and opened the gate for us. I highly recommend anyone who wants to go on a charter look for other businesses that appreciates their patrons. Very disappointed!!! I had reservations for last Saturday (which I booked a week in advance) to go with my 82 y/o grandpa (he went 2 times last year with me) but the way the weather turned out, my grandpa could barely walk with his bad knee. I didnt ask for a refund, I just wanted to reschedule for a better day so he wont be in pain or worse, catch pneumonia (because it was cold and rainy and out on the water it wouldve been even colder). I was informed that they can only reschedule if they fill up the boat and cover our spots which makes no sense to me. Long story short, they would not reschedule so that was $200 down the drain. Their disclaimer says all sales are final unless operator cancellation due to weather or OTHER UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES. This was an unforseen circumstance as I booked the tickets a week in advance but the weather turn out to be cold and dreary for my grandpa. Looks like I will be taking my grandpa fishing elsewhere where they have a little more compassion for senior citizens. read more

Not sure what is going on with this charter company. First time on the Island Current III March 7, 2016, for what I thought was going to be a great day cod fishing. Weather was about 30° and calm seas. Needless to say it wasn't. Got to the boat at 4:30 am for a 5am departure, didn't even get on the boat, and the smell of old rotten clam shells that's been sitting on the seats for at least 2 week because they haven't fished. Got on the boat sat in the salon, said to my friend hope they turn the heat on. We leave the dock at 5am thinking capitan should go over safety procedures and didn't happen. What we thought was going to be a 2 hour ride to go 40 miles which this boats top speed is 24 knots (27.6 mph), took us 3 1/2 hours going 13 to 14 mph, oh yeah not to mention NO heat in the salon by this time had a beer. Started fishing at 8:30 am on a wreck and people were hooked up on cod fish, mostly under size, working on 2nd beer. Moved around on the wreck a little, small cod fish & ling coming over the rail some keepers, still no heat in the salon & still smelly old rotten class on seat. 9:30-10:00 working on 3rd beer and time to use the bathroom. Oh boy what a mistake was, starboard side toilet filled to the rim with you know what. Go to port side bathroom was discussing also, toilet paper near sink, did what I had to do, toilet didn't flush and guest what NO running water to wash hands & no door locks. 10:30 lines in moving, and start steaming north northeast for an hour and ended up east of the east grounds off block island, no heat, safety procedures, water, and no to mention old smelly rotten clam shells. Started another beer, oh you know what, bathroom time smell getting bad, toilet paper on floor, no water, oh yeah no heat either. We move again, heading east no idea why, still no heat, no fish, no water...have to go again, man had to leave door open a little, smell is unbelievable, old rotten clam shells finally went over the side. Just before 2 pm lines in time to head to port. Back at dock at 4pm with no heat, no flushing toilets, no water, no idea what the pool winner was, or how much. I would not recommend this charter company to anyone read more

It is Codfish time in Rhode Island. I have been fishing the Island Current Fleet for many years now and would definitely recommend them for Cod fishing out of Snug Harbor Rhode Island. Capt. Boat ride for an hour and a half up the sound, passing some good fishing spots (I have my own boat), anchored up and remained in one spot for 4 hours even after no one on the boat was catching anything and we asked the captain to move. Went on the Island Current out in Snug Harbor Rhode Island for some Cod fishing. We had a blast! Caught my first cod fish. The mates made the trip great. They were very hands on and helped me and my friends with baiting our hooks and untangling. I even had the pleasure of meeting the captain/owner when I got off the boat. He's a really nice guy!! I never pictured him to be so young. Would highly recommend this boat to everyone!!! read more

First fishing charter that we ever used, and we will never use another charter! The staff was soo helpful at showing us all the tricks. We caught soo many fluke and flounder! Almost all were keepers! First off, crew was A1! But this review is for the captain, 45mins late and no customer service. Boat was suppose to push out at 8am, with the captain being 45mins late the boat just kept taking customers. Pretty much every spot was filled on the boat and lines were getting crossed left and right. If we had left on time ALOT of people would not have made it on which would have made the trip more comfortable. The captain made no communication, no apology for his tardiness and on top of that he was sleep at stops. Being sleep would not have been such a problem if he hadn't stopped in shallow water and fish were being caught. The boat was nice, the crew was great and the ride itself was nice. I was on Island Current last Wednesday , the boat is dirty don't even think to used the bathroom , They don't have bait, or chunk they were using small blue fish as bait, they reserved the better places for their friends and don't take care of anybody else , nobody on the boat catch any fish , they took us only like 3 to 5 miles from the dock , the charge $65 for a ride to a dirty water also everybody paid 5 for a pol and they keep that money without asking if they can keep it. Don't waste money with then you will cash more fish from the shore than with them. read more

Went fishing on Mother's Day got charged 65 some people were given discount and some wasn't left the dock late 32 fish all day every time I came on actually every time I do city island charter the whole boat leaves practically empty handed huge waste of time filthy bathroom uncomfortable seat boring there was no action all I got was a great view and an overpriced boat ride island current will take your money every time . If you want to catch fish head to sheepshead bay catch fish all day .and get ready for secound hand smoking and loud drunks. read more

Went out on a Thursday night in June with coworkers. First problem we pulled out about a half hour late. Then we went out for about 1 hour or so, we dropped our lines and stayed put for about 2 1/2 hours. Only 1 fish!!! Not counting the small lobster and sea Robbin. About 50 people on the boat and the customers were asking the mates if we were going to move because nobody was catching anything!!! They refused to ask the "captain" who it turns out was sleeping on the floor !!!! After a little while he must have woke up and we went further out about 1/2 hour or so. Still no fish and everyone was asking the mates to speak to the captain and go in and they would not!!! Finally hit the dock about 130 am!! Company was great (coworkers) to bad the crew smokes and sleeps to much!!! Will never go back!! read more

Terrible! Went on the Island Current with a friend in late June 2015. It took an hour to get out to the fishing spot. That wasn't that big a deal. The big disappointment was that we stayed in the same spot for four hours and only two fish were caught by the 15-20 or so people on board. a bluefish and a sea robbin. the captain refused to move to another spot. It was like being held hostage. Nobody could understand why the captain wouldn't try out another spot. I have never been a boat like this. If the first spot doesn't work out after an hour or so, all of the other boats that I have been on try other spots. The mate Hector was very helpful but the captain, outside of getting us to the one and only spot that we fished unsuccessfully for four hours, did nothing!!. My 12 year old son could have done the same thing. I am amazed by the sheer lack of interest and utter disregard for their customers. A waste of time if there was ever. I have been on boats before and have not caught anything but this was different. The captain didn't even try. A horrible experience! read more

It was my 15 year old daughter's wish to go fishing; she had never tried it before. And after a few hours on the boat she was standing happily with a nice blackfish in her arms. So with that I was happy and grateful to Island Current Fishing for the opportunity. Apart from that: Don't expect luxury: the boat (Island Current 2) is very basic with limited amenities. There is a bathroom but it isn't luxurious. There is a place to sit but it isn't too comfortable. There wasn't any food or drinks to be bought so bring all you need. And be prepared to get bored if you're not a fanatical fisherman/woman: the trip is 8 hours, one third of which is spent traveling to/from the fishing-spots. But all that aside: we had a fabulous time on the water (we were also quite lucky with the weather and seas) and returned home with some nice pics, one of which is my daughter grinning with the fish in her arms. And all for $65 per person - can't beat that. And yes: I would do it again. read more

My son & I went night "fishing" for blues and bass on the Current Island II on Aug. 5, 2013. We booked a 6:30pm trip. The boat was in poor shape, neglected and in need of some simple repairs, For example the shelf in the bath room was hanging loose supported by 1 screw out of 4. The other 3 screws simply needed to be rescrewed into the wall. Rotted wood abundant. No safety lecture nada. I brought my GPS along to see where we went. After a 10.7 mph cruise for about 90 minutes we stopped and dropped lines. After 45 minutes of nobody getting even a nibble we cruised for 15 more minutes and dropped anchor. The next almost 3 hours we did'nt move and all 24 of the passengers did not get a nibble. The Capt. must of been sleeping. One guy who was there with his daughter got bored and cold and went into the cabin. his rod got hit by a 20lb bass so one person got a fish. Talking to the crew to get the boat to a more productive spot was fruitless. I'll never go back. I'll fish out of Sheepshead Bay on a real fishing boat. Many of that nights customers were Bronx locals who went out quite a few times and did'nt catch anything on this boat. The "crew" let a few guys smoke pot and that is a big Coast Guard no-no. Just proved to me that these guys did'nt give a rats ass about their customers. read more

went on Island Current 50/50 blackfish trip on 10/31/14 . Let me first say the mates Brownie and C.J. were excellent mates . However , it turn ed out to be a lousy day.When we arrived the parking lot was locked and we were told by island current staff to park on street. Upon returning dockside i go to my truck but its gone . I ask all around but nobody knows anything so i start checking the signs and there is no sign saying i cant park where my truck was parked. i was parked legal . so i'm thinking it was stolen. i stop a cop he spends the next hour trying to locate my truck. Finally he did and gives me the name of the towing company. He tells me $136.00 plus a $95.00 ticket for blocking a driveway? There was no driveway there.Meanwhile i call Capt Chris and he basically tells me its not his problem ? after another 2hrs and a trip across and uptown in the Bronx i finally get to my truck.$95+136+264=495.00 .The only thing that makes sense is that they must have a lot of problems with fisherman parking there. Google maps shows a car parked where mine was and it was not towed and there is no driveway& no signs. The thing that bothers me the most is that this so called Captain took no responsibility for what happened.After all if the gate was open, none of this would have happened.Saying im sorry for what happened carries a lot of weight in my book.One thing is certain they will not see another dime of my money. read more

I don't know what happened on the boat where there are positive reviews. I went out twice with them, and caught nothing. It wasn't that I don't know how to fish. I do. I have been fishing since I was just a little kid and I have never been on a worse charter. The only good thing about it was Captain Chris. He is a very nice man. The "deck hands" we're just sitting around smoking. The place is filthy too. The start times on both trips were delayed 30 mins to one hour for no reason other than those "deck hands" we're late. I got a little curious and went to see that there were no fish on the fish finder when we stopped to fish. On the first trip, a bluefish trip, one bluefish was caught the whole six hours. The second trip, there were some porgies caught but none larger than an iPhone. I don't believe that is legal. All in all, they are terrible charters and if you go on one, you have wasted your money. read more
