I went on the sunset fishing charter (5pm-9pm), which was fishing for flounder and fluke. A lot of fish were caught. Many were keepers. The boat was washed down well before we got on. We were well stocked with minnows to bait our hooks. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We fished under Throggs Neck Bridge and had a decent view of Manhattan and the sunset. The bathroom was a little bit in disarray, but whatever, it's a fishing boat, not a yacht. Walk down to their dock about 15 minutes early, bring your beer and soda. $40 for all the fish you can catch, bait, poles & rods and someone to filet your fish. A lot of fun. First every porgie is not a keeper just to make passengers happy omg they let people keep fish that where palm size and insisted that they where legal dude its 10" not 5" and then seabass where being caught all over the boat and they started tell pax that the season had not started and it illegal when the truth was the season opened that Monday and they just did not bother to purchase a RSA permit which is all they should have said instead of telling pax something els. Went out porgy fishing on island current last night 630pm-1200am on Aug 19 2018. I have been fishing on charter boats open and private for 20 years, this was the worst experience hands down. The Mate was moderately attentive, the Captain was garbage. We made 4 anchor drops, 3 of which were made at the lighthouse just south of throgs neck. Finally many guests began to complain and we moved to the cell tower about 2 miles away. I don't know if the captain was lazy or the management of the Island Current Fleet looks to cut cost by not taking the boat more then 3 miles away from the dock, but last night I saw there small boat full of dissatisfied customers and I hope this review resonates. I will never charter there services again. If your looking into booking with them online, take your 68$ and throw it in the toilet. read more

I would not recommend this fleet to anyone looking for family fishing. Upon arriving at the docks on June 2 for the 6:30 PM through 12:30 AM stripers and blues night fishing there were three boats docked the route all part of the current fleet no one was there to greet dust to tell us what boat to go on and looked at us like we were idiots that we didn't know which boat to go on when asked. The fishing charter left 20 minutes late and within a short time most of the people who are going fishing started drinking heavy and openly smoking marijuana surprisingly no one on the crew said anything to them. I found the maids to be rude and obnoxious and the captain to be grumpy. Definitely not a class act although the fishing was not good I can't blame that on them it was just one of those nights but the things they could control they didn't and for that I will never be back. read more

I've heard that fishing is very relaxing and I didn't know anything about it but it was great to see others offer help. There's nothing like a NYC summer sunset and the views you'll see with Island Current Fleet will have you gazing. Think outside the box and do something you're usually not going to do. Again, I've never been fishing before but the crew was so helpful. It was refreshing to see so much especially when it came to this art. I wasn't able to exactly get a grip on what i had to do but the help was there. Catching a fish was the exciting part. In case I am interested again in fishing, I will for sure return to Island Current Fleet. Their customer service sold me completely. We took the sunset fishing trip from 5-9pm with two families including 4 kids from 4-8yrs in tow. We had no idea what to expect and 6 out of 7 of us had barely never held a fishing rod. It was great!! We caught multiple fish, which were filleted for us on board, the crew were patient and hilarious with our kids and it was a huge success. These guys were incredibly great. Speaking as someone who likes the 'idea' of fishing but who doesn't do it too much, I really wanted to get on the water and give it a shot with someone who actually knew what they were doing. Took a ride with these guys and I have to say that every part of it was spectacular. The boat was great, and it really took me back to when I had gone fishing on similar boats with friends and family when I was younger. The staff did a great job of bringing us to some good spots and they made sure that we had everything that we needed (rods, bait, etc) to get the job done. While I didn't get a fish, for me the idea of fishing isn't just about catching fish - it's just as much about going out and experiencing the open water on a nice day with people who you enjoy spending time with. That being said, a lot of the people on the boat (including a couple of friends) caught fish, and the team was really great about making sure that the fish were taken care of for us. Additionally, it seemed that everyone else was having a good time as well, and I think this group atmosphere really added to the entire day and made my trip even more special. If I ever end up going out on the water again, I'll be definitely calling the Island Current people first, because both me and my friends (who have significantly more charter experience than I do) agreed that this was one of the best experiences that we've ever had! read more

The boat can do with a bit of updating but honestly you can't beat the experience. It takes about an hour, to and from, to get to the fishing areas. When you're there they will reposition the boat every now and then, but for the rest of the time, you're fishing. The crew was attentive and helped with whatever we needed. A few tips if this will be the first time you're going, pack a sweater for the night time. Doesn't matter if it's baking during the day it gets a little chilly at night. Be adequately stocked with booze and water. The bathrooms have no running water and its one of those pump flushed toilets, so bring hand sanitizer. That you'll definitely need, all these tips are included in the email by the way. All in all, it was a great experience and i will definitely be fishing with island current again. read more

An night fishing trip with my son. No stripers or blue fish available, but Captain Pete suggested to pick up some worms from Jack's Bait & Tackle in advance. Good advice! It was over an hour steaming out to the fishing grounds, but were immediately on the fish. The boat provides clam bellies, but I found a combination of clam bellies and worms to be highly effective. We pulled up 10 fish at the first location and weren't alone. The excited yells of the other customers and the mates rushing back and forth spread positive energy all over the boat. The second stop yielded another 5 fish (along with several that got away) and I dare say, I was getting fished out by the time we started the trip back. I made sure to tip the crew as they filleted our catch and cleaned up around us. Perhaps they should consider having a tip box on the boat to make sure they receive all intended contributions A great time and recommended way to spend a summer evening! read more

DANNY shout out to mate Angel , caught around 60 the last two trips with them . When I got on the Rhode island boat right away mate David (with the Yankees cap) starting talking to me giving all the info on the blackies and just some great information. One word, horrible. These guys have 0 sense. I reserved my charter days ago to go out to the sound and fish during the 4th of July. They call me back today (day before) to tell me that regardless of my reservation - a group of 5 guys rented the whole boat to go on their own trip, I guess there was more money there. What's the point of a reservation and planning a trip? Now my plans are ruined and it's too last minute to try to come up with a plan for tomorrow. I will NEVER sail with this fleet again. Either you schedule something like fishing for Bass and they change on you last second - or you reserve a spot days in advance for them to change on you last second. I got screwed. Never again. Capt. I felt as is the captain didnt know where the fish were and the mate on the boat was clumsy and did not seem like he knew how to assist the other passengers on the boat. My first and only time on the Island current was last year April 5, 2017. It was supposed to be flounder season. I brought my 14 year old son along. I must say this was the most boring experience we had. No bites and I could have gone fishing off the shores of city island or orchard beach had I known the captain was just going to take us along the bay by the Hutchinson Parkway drawbridge. What a waste of money. They pics and videos are of open water fishing which is what we were looking forward to. Instead we never left the Bronx or Pelham bay area. It is really interesting that my review from a month ago got Filtered,,, Why?? Cause the boat owner can pay a dollar to remove the post??? My post was 100% true and to the point, this boat sucks, over crowded, let people smoke pot, they drove a hour and a half to fish, seems to be their Motive to waste time and save fuel by driving slow. I was on the same trip as the other person posted for the same day. Pretty much accurate with the post with a few extras for the Island Current 4. 1.) The bathrooms were filthy. Crap on the walls, toilets did not flush, doors have no locks, so anyone can see you pee or poop. And best, no running water!!! 2.) Engine room flooded with water as a propeller seal let go flooding one engine. Mates scrambled to get pumps and pump. Boat was sitting over 2 feet lower in the water on the way back. 3.) One mate said he told his boss that a seal was leaking and they were still told to use the boat even thought the Island Current 3 was docked and not being used. 4.) wasted a lot of time driving honestly 4 hours of driving almost 5, what's up with that. 5.) Crew was fishing and they did not regulate their catch, many people took short Porgies, I mean people, the filets were the size of a chicken nugget or 2 when done. Overall the captain and owners do not take care of these boats. Even the newer Island Current 3 is crappy. Do yourselves a favor, pay the price, go on another fleet. My first time fishing with Island Current was in the summer of 2014. I'm not much of a fisherman so thank you to the crew of Island Current for baiting my hook throughout the charter. Needless to say, I caught a blue fish and was extremely excited about that. All in all, the boat was well stocked with bait, the crew were helpful and friendly and I had a great time. There was about 15 of us that went, and for many of them it was the first time on a boat/fishing. Some good and bad. The good that we had was Chris, the owner. He was very prompt with his answering my questions via text and accommodating. Now the bad... there was a gentleman smoking weed in the bathroom, deckhands walked around only a few times asking if anyone needed anything and always had a cigarette in their mouths. Just got home after a long night of fishing. I have been out twice recently on the island current. Once last Sunday which happened to get a bit snotty, for porgies and black Sea bass. Having not much experience fishing in the sound I didn't get sandworms prior to trip. Tony one of the mates explained to me how important it is to use sandworms to fish porgy on the Northshore and helped me aquire some for my venture. Believe it worked, I had 8 keepers that day. So after a successful day fishing with the island current fleet I decided to go out for blues and stripers tonight. Let me start off by telling you I grew up on long Island and have fished out of captree since I was a kid. I've been tuna fishing and have even caught a swordfish but when I tell you I have not ever caught a bluefish or striper for my life they always seem to elude me. Tony told me to come out next time and he would help me catch one. Sure enough I went tonight exactly one week later and I killed em'. I caught three. Two were in the pool with many aboard the fleet and one just missed the winnings. Tony knows his stuff and Captain Scott is great. He puts you right on top of those fish and will leave the wheel house to teach you and help in any way he can. Again one of the best crews out on television water to date. Good job boys. Went out at night on 5/10/19. Not one hit all night on the entire boat!. Got back at about 12:30AM and didn't even get our pool money back. No apologies or even offer of a discount on our next trip. Bathrooms have no running water. Went 3 weeks ago on a Saturday morning and only 2 or three hits on the WHOLE boat. Terrible time! Do not recommend. What can I say but I feel weird even writing this. Fishing is the most enjoyable thing in my life and has been.. We booked up trip 10 of us to go black fishing on the island current living out of City Island. We arrived bright and early 6am so we could get our spots. We were greeted with a less than happy mate. When we went to get on the boat he snapped did you buy your tickets online? Yes we did actually a month ago we good, je says great this aint your boat your boat is the smaller one going out for porgies and blackfish. After 20 minutes of showing him receipts of paying 100 for blackfish trip nothing about porgies he basically said tuff shit any problem call captain im the mate and as you can see I don't care.. Yes thats what he said. The other boat much smaller probably hd 10 people comfortably was told that everyone who bought online is on that boat. They shoved 17 fisherman a mate and captain on this ass to elbow no room for the he ghost let alone covid issues. EVERYONE WAS COMAINING AND ASKING ABOUT REFUNDS WHICH WAS REFUSED. THE CAPTAIN not Chris they gave us was a quiet gentlemen and I'm sure a nice guy, but did nothing to eliminate concerns. We went out so we all didn't lose our money left late 830 or so, they forgot to take rope of dock which snapped (thank God we didn't all get hurt) which was crazy. He drove about an 1hr anchored and never picked up again. There was a total of 2 keepers on boat as far as blackfish. (not to mention short kept on board). This was the most disappointing, bait and switch, closterphobic fishing trip i have ever encountered. If it wasn't for friends that went over 35 years of friendship all would have been lost. I've spent 12 hrs in blistering sun losing red devils all day in rocks getting skunked and never felt this bad about a day. Booked the stripers and blues 6:30pm trip for Saturday 09/01/2018 and once my party was on the boat, the crew said they no longer fish for stripers and blues. They said the fleet is only fishing porgy now and when I asked why I was sold different, they had no comment. The anticipation of catching a big fish was quickly shot down which was very disappointed considering the money we spent on gear for striper and $65 ticket fee.
