Saw this place from a social media account I follow and then saw their other items on their Instagram then noticed ther are on GoldBelly. I added this to must visit on my upcoming Philly trip. Wanted to try the peach shaped cake. Went on the day I was leaving. Unfortunately the young lady told me the cannoli or some the other cakes probably wouldn't last on my flight back to Cali,but I did get some ricotta cookies. Pinoli,and biscott. I got the peach cake for breakfast with a nice cup of coffee from Anthony's down the street. Cakes as moist and fresh. The cookies made it safely and gobbled up in a couple days. Had to stop by this iconic bakery while in the area for dinner! Isgro is a compact Italian bakery - very compact, with just a bit of standing room in front of the glass cases and no seating so have a place in mind to bring your treats. There is a whole range of cookies, cannolis, and both whole cakes and slices that are absolutely tantalizing to look at. I do wish the prices were listed on the labels and it seems sort of user-unfriendly to not have them listed and make customers either ask about everything or just get a surprise at checkout, though. My group got a mini cheesecake, mini raspberry ganache, and a sfogliatella for $7 each, if that is any indication of the spot's prices. They came packaged in a cute box tied with string, which is certainly fun to present as a gift or at a gathering. We dug into them when we got home and each of us loved our respective choices. I'd definitely come again for some of those well-made pastries, but don't be afraid to ask about prices and maybe nudge them to be more transparent about them. read more

Went there today with some family that are from out of town. I still live in South Philly and I have been going to Isgro for years, much of my family as well . Today was a mistake because the product that they are putting out now compared to what they put out years ago is totally different. I got two Saint Joseph's day cakes or (zeppole), which were absolutely terrible. They should've been ricotta, however they were ricotta mixed with another ingredient, maybe whipped cream or something. (how cheap). Also, they were topped with granulated sugar, which was not good either. They should be ashamed of their product and what they're putting out now. Probably one of the best bakeries in the city and for good reason. Pretty busy but the line moves quick. Dozens and dozens of selections, from cookies and pastries to cakes and tarts. There are a lot of classic Italian pastries to choose from of course. Limoncello and pesca con crema we're very moist and fluffy, both had very rich flavors. I braved the extremely hot weather in Philly to try one of the best Italian bakeries. The bakery is cute inside and the ladies at the counter are so friendly and welcoming. I loved everything I tried here and so much that I stopped by twice during my stay (to take a couple things home lol). So fyi, they only make mini cannoli for large orders which was a little bummer but I still had to try so I got one ricotta and one mascarpone (both excellent but the mascarpone was so unexpectedly delicious) and had a chocolate shell. But my absolute absolute favorite was their famous chocolate chip ricotta cookies. They weren't too sweet and perfect, melt in your mouth amazing. I would have loved to bring a tiramisu cup home but they don't have covers for them and in the hot weather I didn't think it would survive lol. We visited Isgro Pastries for some of their famous cannoli this past weekend when we were in Philly, and it's easy to see why this is such a beloved business. Isgro opened in 1904! 1904!!! And it's still in the family (the original owner Mario's grandson continues to run the business)! This is so rare nowadays, and it's amazing to visit a business with such an amazing history and importance to its community. Here's another fun fact: Isgro makes 60,000 cannoli every year. They make and sell so many cannoli that they have to halt production of everything else they make to focus on cannoli baking three days every single week. They're an institution in Philly, with families visiting for generations. We stuck to cannoli on this visit, but they also make a million other things (their cases are overflowing): cookies, torts, cakes, biscotti... Only three people know the recipe to Isgro's cannoli, but they're classic - golden cannoli shell, ricotta, and dark chocolate chips. As a savory girl, I don't crave a lot of sweets, but I can see why people crave Isgro! It's special. If you're in the area, stop by! read more

All the locals recommend this place and boy oh boy they did not steer me wrong. Traditional family owned and operated small business right here! The cannoli was the best I have ever eaten! So fresh, pastry was flaky with just the perfect amount of chocolate drizzle! They cost $7 but they are worth it! The Italian chocolate cookie was good but not my favorite that I tried. I loved the butter walnut cookies! Perfectly cooked and they were not dry like other ones I have tried in the past from other bakeries. The service is very classic and traditional. We picked up a few pastries for a birthday party and I'm shocked we had anything left! The strawberry banana chocolate mousse cake may be my new favorite kind of cake! It's truely the best of everything mixed into one and the chocolate covered strawberries on top were so juicy and perfectly ripe! One of our friends turned us on to this bakery, and it did not disappoint... FYI, getting to the bakery is definitely an adventure.  There is nowhere to park and it's located in a busy area. We did get a little lucky, though... We went on a Saturday morning, very close to opening.  This allowed us to find parking a few blocks away, but more importantly,  they were not busy yet.  We weren't able to try the cakes, but the cannolis were so delicious. They offer four different style and all were so rich, creamy, and addictive.  With crispy shells and decadence inside.... I had to force myself to stop eating them all at once! But the cookies were actually the best. Delicate , flavorful, nutty, scented, filled, rich and layered with flavor These cookies made me rethink Italian pastry. I dont think I have ever had Italian cookies that good...in fact, I know I haven't. Each cookie was different,  but had the same magical quality...sweet but not too sweet.  Crunchy and smooth, a complicated concoction of what I am assuming is 100 years of trial and error, and hard work. Lines are long but move fast. Although they are extremely busy, the staff is very welcoming and friendly. They took their time answering any questions and didn't rush us or anyone else. I wanted to get the Mascarpone Zeppole but they didn't have it so I opted for the Sfogliatelle and Ricotta Canoli. Both pastries were good and only mildly sweet which I really appreciate! My brother told me about this bakery that he always goes to that has good pastries, so I decided to try it out. And what a pleasant surprise! They have all kinds of desserts here, from your typical Italian cookies, flavored biscotti, and assorted pastries to their award-winning cannoli as well as birthday cakes. I could literally come to this place every single freaking day! But I would be too broke. They were many reasons why I move from Miami Florida back to Philadelphia.
