Seriously one of the best bakerys in town. This is the perfect example of a iconic neighborhood bakery. I was able to pick up a nice variety of pastries and cookies. They have a number system, when your number is called you get helped. I could tell from walking up and seeing the line early in morning. That these must be neighborhood regulars. Inside is small so everything is to go. I tried a couple of bites of my lobster tail.so fresh and full of cream
You can smell the sweet buttery pastry from the door. Make sure to get the number and wait for your number to be called. The store is very small so it's very congested on a busy day. I used to love the peach cake but now it's not as moist as before. I like the baba rum here. It's completely soaked with rum syrup. Sfogliatella is ok, the filling is very plain and bland. All of the desserts there are very inviting .
3rd stop on the Italian food market tour. We sampled a cannoli here. I'm not crazy about cannoli's, but I can't imagine they get much better than the one I had here. The best part about the entire store is standing outside right in front of the window where there is a giant air vent below. Oh my goodness those smells!!! I could sit there all day and just smell the bakery smells coming out of the ground vent.
Overpriced. I simply don't enjoy buying into gimmicks. Some people love this place for the history. Some people are drawn in by the smells and the pastries. I fall into neither of those categories but I've had a few pastries and cookies from here at gatherings and I decided I'd get my own for a gathering. Well 1 pound of cookies costs $27! Any other cookie place would never charge such an outrageous price for COOKIES. The cookies were just fine. I am not the target audience and that's okay. The free smells outside is enough for me.
The pignoli, pasticinni, and almond macaron. The trio that never misses. Each one has an incredible almond flavor with a chewy center. The pine nuts on the pignoli balance out the sweetness of the cookies. The cannoli is delicious too! And this comes from someone who doesn't usually like cannolis. I crave these cookies way too often.
This place has been on my list for a very long time I was very disappointed by the goods. I was very excited to try the baba rum but it was the worst $7.50 I've spent. It was stale, dry and lacking of flavor (including rum!). I think Cool Whip between two slices of Bacardi soaked Hawaiian bread would have been better. Pesca con Crema looked great but had NO peach schnapps whatsoever and was also dry. There was a hint of peach though, as if someone opened an air freshener in the kitchen. The tiramisu was surprisingly disappointing considering there was no flavor at all. Also not even a hint of espresso/coffee. Just cake, coco, and whipped cream. Lemon Cello was moist and very good! Eclair was okay The staff are kind and helpful.
Family owned for over 120 years is impressive in a country like the United States with big brands taking over. Located in the historically Italian neighborhood, Isgro Pastries is old school. When you walk into the small space, you have to take a number. Wait patiently until your number is called. Then, order. Depending on who is working, continue to wait patiently while they put together your order. I ordered two cannoli with vanilla filling. The woman filled it before my eyes, put them in a small box, and tied it with colorful string. Each one cost $6, but they were delicious! It's worth noting that if you use a credit card, the minimum is $10.
My husband got us some pastries for our 10 year anniversary and they were amazing! So decadent yet light, indulgent but not overly sweet. I am craving their cheesecake and smore tart as I write this.
Isgro pastries is iconic! It's very old school and a true Philly experience. There is usually a bit of a wait. I am not a huge fan of Italian cookies but they make a fantastic cannoli here.
Isgro is the perfect place to curb your sweet tooth. From the perfectly crunchy biscotti to the freshest lobster tail pastry, this place really knows how to do it well. I wish I had a photo of the lobster tail pastry, sadly it was gone before I good snap a photo. A nice crispy outside with a cold cream inside, this is one of the best desserts I have had in a awhile,
Saw this place from a social media account I follow and then saw their other items on their Instagram then noticed ther are on GoldBelly. I added this to must visit on my upcoming Philly trip. Wanted to try the peach shaped cake. Went on the day I was leaving. Unfortunately the young lady told me the cannoli or some the other cakes probably wouldn't last on my flight back to Cali, but I did get some ricotta cookies. Pinoli, and biscott. I got the peach cake for breakfast with a nice cup of coffee from Anthony's down the street. Cakes as moist and fresh. The cookies made it safely and gobbled up in a couple days. My guy doesn't really like biscotti but apparently loved these. I had to hide the last few. Will definitely be ordering from GoldBelly.
Isgro Pastries in South Philly is known for its huge assortment of traditional Italian-American sweets. Their cookies include ricotta cookies, pignoli cookies, almond macaroons, classic butter cookies, fruit-filled varieties (apricot, raspberry, chocolate-fig), biscotti in multiple flavors, and assorted "old-world" Italian cookies. Their cakes and larger desserts range from tiramisu cake, chocolate mousse cake, chocolate-raspberry ganache, chocolate-strawberry-banana mousse, and fresh strawberry shortcake to Italian rum cake, New York cheesecake, red-velvet cheesecake, and classic vanilla layer cake. Together, the mix of rich cakes, crisp cannoli, and traditional cookies makes Isgro a standout Philly bakery with deep Italian roots and a reputation for consistent, old-school excellence.
WOW what a bakery! Just happened to stop in because we were early for a reservation and I am so glad we did. Great little shop with a ton of selection and a lot of traditional Italian pastries. I got a cannoli, mini panettone and pignoli cookies. Everything was fresh and delicious. I would definitely come here again to try more things!
Reviews are largely positive. People praise the exceptional pastries and cakes, including cannoli and ricotta cookies, and enjoy the inviting bakery atmosphere. Staff are generally friendly and helpful.

Came here because my friend wanted to try their cannoli. We were intrigued by the other pastries in the shop so decided to browse a bit before ordering. They have a sign saying everyone has to get a ticket number. It gets confusing when previous people didn't take or we're going out of order because some of us are still deciding or some people are picking up orders instead of buying on the spot. I think it's an Italian bakery thing to sell baked goods by the pound. I don't like how their menu is posted way far back on the wall behind the counter. If I didn't look online beforehand, I wouldn't have an idea of what to do. Well we still didn't. Since we wanted to get a cannoli and some cookies, we asked the staff whether we need to buy a whole pound/box. He said we don't if we just want a few. He didn't say and we didn't ask how exactly we'll be charged. We ended up getting four cookies: pignoli, almond macaron, old fashion italian, chocolate drop For the cannoli, the menu shows different options but I didn't get questions when I just asked for "a cannoli" which is a good thing. We ended up getting the original one with ricotta. We got charged $6 in total for all the items. Honestly we still don't know how their math works because the transaction was rung up as "cannoli $6". They have a surcharge if you pay by card. We paid in cash and it felt fine with the nice round numbers. Also it seemed quite common for people to pay cash at this spot. The cannoli was pretty good. They pipe it fresh on the spot, and you can taste the difference with a crunchy shell. I'm not sure what's authentic in terms of shell thickness and texture, but I personally would like a thinner shell. The filling wasn't too sweet even after the powdered sugar. The cookies were more fun to browse than to eat. All of them were too sweet and had extracts that I didn't like. If I picked my favorite, pignoli and almond macaron are close. Pignoli is sweeter but has nice texture with the pine nuts on the outside. Almond macaroon is strong in almond extract but less sweet and has a slight chew to it. read more

Stood in line here for a few minutes. Some people here don't understand the concept of why the door needs to stay closed. Insane how they just prop the door open and wait to grab a ticket. Just wait outside. It's like 70 out today. Anyway. The canoli shells were handmade. Was decently good. We also had a mango tart which had chocolate in it. Definitely different vibe than what we were expecting. Would come back to try other things when we are in the city. Jake, kev, d, mark read more

You can smell the anise as you approach the door. Five stars based on the biscotti alone. Ordered a few of each, which included traditional like fruit/nut and not so traditional like lemon/blueberry. On par with the Italian bakeries I knew growing up in the New Haven area. read more
Had to stop by this iconic bakery while in the area for dinner! Isgro is a compact Italian bakery - very compact, with just a bit of standing room in front of the glass cases and no seating so have a place in mind to bring your treats. There is a whole range of cookies, cannolis, and both whole cakes and slices that are absolutely tantalizing to look at. I do wish the prices were listed on the labels and it seems sort of user-unfriendly to not have them listed and make customers either ask about everything or just get a surprise at checkout, though. My group got a mini cheesecake, mini raspberry ganache, and a sfogliatella for $7 each, if that is any indication of the spot's prices. They came packaged in a cute box tied with string, which is certainly fun to present as a gift or at a gathering. We dug into them when we got home and each of us loved our respective choices. I'd definitely come again for some of those well-made pastries, but don't be afraid to ask about prices and maybe nudge them to be more transparent about them. read more
Can't express how happy finding Isgro has made me! Everything is delicious! And looks good too! We keep sampling some treats, like Sfogliatella that reminds me of the ones I had in Amalfi, the little tarts and pies are amazing... and even the cat wanted the gingerbread man!!! Go there! And being a sample of goodies with you!!! read more

All the locals recommend this place and boy oh boy they did not steer me wrong. Traditional family owned and operated small business right here! The cannoli was the best I have ever eaten! So fresh, pastry was flaky with just the perfect amount of chocolate drizzle! They cost $7 but they are worth it! The Italian chocolate cookie was good but not my favorite that I tried. I loved the butter walnut cookies! Perfectly cooked and they were not dry like other ones I have tried in the past from other bakeries. The service is very classic and traditional. The waitress took my order writing everything down as I ordered it. Once completed she retrieved my order carefully placing all of my items into an adorable small box which she then proceeded to tie with red and white string. Check out my photos but more importantly go try them local gem! read more
One of our friends turned us on to this bakery, and it did not disappoint... FYI, getting to the bakery is definitely an adventure. There is nowhere to park and it's located in a busy area. We did get a little lucky, though... We went on a Saturday morning, very close to opening. This allowed us to find parking a few blocks away, but more importantly, they were not busy yet. We weren't able to try the cakes, but the cannolis were so delicious. They offer four different style and all were so rich, creamy, and addictive. With crispy shells and decadence inside.... I had to force myself to stop eating them all at once! But the cookies were actually the best. Delicate , flavorful, nutty, scented, filled, rich and layered with flavor These cookies made me rethink Italian pastry. I dont think I have ever had Italian cookies that good...in fact, I know I haven't. Each cookie was different, but had the same magical quality...sweet but not too sweet. Crunchy and smooth, a complicated concoction of what I am assuming is 100 years of trial and error, and hard work. I have never called a cookie well balanced, or even considered such a thing....but these are....and it makes me so happy! Heavenly! read more
Probably one of the best bakeries in the city and for good reason. Pretty busy but the line moves quick. Dozens and dozens of selections, from cookies and pastries to cakes and tarts. There are a lot of classic Italian pastries to choose from of course. Limoncello and pesca con crema we're very moist and fluffy, both had very rich flavors. I expected them to be a little dryer as I went later in the day, but they were quite fresh. Mascarpone cannoli was the perfect level of sweetness. Ricotta cookies also delectable. Worth a stop in to order some sweet treats. Thanks read more

Was planning on going to the bakery but a trip to the hospital dampened my trip. So I sent family off with a list of baked goods that I wanted and instructions to take photos. Out of two boxes of pastries all I was left with were two...yes two cookies. My son devoured it all .... The two cookies were excellent and the two RumBaBas for our neighbors made it back and came with rave reviews. Looking forward to going back and getting the full experience along with more than two cookies read more
Lines are long but move fast. Although they are extremely busy, the staff is very welcoming and friendly. They took their time answering any questions and didn't rush us or anyone else. I wanted to get the Mascarpone Zeppole but they didn't have it so I opted for the Sfogliatelle and Ricotta Canoli. Both pastries were good and only mildly sweet which I really appreciate! Unfortunately I wasn't blown away by either and found them just ok taste wise. Maybe I had my expectations set too high. I have heard their Mascarpone pastries are really good, would like to try those next time. read more
We visited Isgro Pastries for some of their famous cannoli this past weekend when we were in Philly, and it's easy to see why this is such a beloved business. Isgro opened in 1904! 1904!!! And it's still in the family (the original owner Mario's grandson continues to run the business)! This is so rare nowadays, and it's amazing to visit a business with such an amazing history and importance to its community. Here's another fun fact: Isgro makes 60,000 cannoli every year. They make and sell so many cannoli that they have to halt production of everything else they make to focus on cannoli baking three days every single week. They're an institution in Philly, with families visiting for generations. We stuck to cannoli on this visit, but they also make a million other things (their cases are overflowing): cookies, torts, cakes, biscotti... Only three people know the recipe to Isgro's cannoli, but they're classic - golden cannoli shell, ricotta, and dark chocolate chips. As a savory girl, I don't crave a lot of sweets, but I can see why people crave Isgro! It's special. If you're in the area, stop by! read more

My brother told me about this bakery that he always goes to that has good pastries, so I decided to try it out. And what a pleasant surprise! They have all kinds of desserts here, from your typical Italian cookies, flavored biscotti, and assorted pastries to their award-winning cannoli as well as birthday cakes. The staff are friendly, patient, and helpful. It can get really busy during the weekends and holiday + no parking- you have to get a number from the ticket dispenser on your way in & wait to be called. I got a dozen coconut macaroons, butter cookies, a strawberry ricotta cheesecake, tiramisu, and a few mascarpone cannoli. Everything tasted delicious, fresh, and not overly sweet. My mom loves their macaroons & my brother likes their tiramisu- he said it's one of the best he's ever had. My daughter ate all of the cookies and cheesecake- she said they were good. I really enjoyed the cannoli- perfectly crisp shell with ricotta and dark chocolate chip inside. Their desserts did not disappoint! read more
We picked up a few pastries for a birthday party and I'm shocked we had anything left! The strawberry banana chocolate mousse cake may be my new favorite kind of cake! It's truely the best of everything mixed into one and the chocolate covered strawberries on top were so juicy and perfectly ripe! The cannolis are stuffed to perfection and we also got some tea biscuits! None of it made it home there was 11 of us and we ate the whole thing! Our order was ready right away when we arrived and it's such a cute bakery! I'd love to try more of their yummy treats in the future! read more

A classic Italian bakery in the heart of the Italian market! So many things to choose from whether you're bringing a cake to a party or looking for a little treat for yourself (the biscotti are delicious). The staffmembers are very friendly and will help you with your decision making. Prices are pretty standard for bakeries. FYI-Isgros is very popular so you may need to wait a little but (but the line moves pretty fast)! read more
This pastry shop is amazing! It's right down the street from the Italian market.! One thing looked better than the next and I can tell you everything was delicious. I love their Christmas display and the staff was great about us taking way to long to pick out what we wanted. read more

Great variety of Italian pastries. The employees are also extremely pleasant and willing to help you decide what to purchase. The baba rum wasn't for me, but the banana cake, sfogliatelle, chocolate pb cake, espresso biscotti, cannolis, and mascarpone zepoli were all delicious and flavorful! The shop is small but offers a wide variety of baked goods. read more
