They examined it thoroughly and ultimately diagnosed the problem as a fault in the motherboard. The solution turned out to be putting my solid state drive into another laptop several generations newer....effectively salvaging all my data and apps on a newer machine...all this for a few hundred bucks. Turns out it wasn't the jack insert that was the problem, but the charge cable itself. They ordered a new cable for me and i had my netbook back in working order in a shorter time then i had originally anticipated. The cable was extremely affordable and works great.
