We were there on a warm weekend day, and there was a line of 10 people that was moving very slowly. 2 people were working, but only one was serving customers (the other was making waffle cones). Gosh this is the best ice cream shop in the Bay hands down. My partner took me here (he had been many times as he lives close) but told me it's a MUST. All i can say is Wow wow wow its the kind of ice cream that makes you smile and do a little dance. I have finally found the holy grail of ice cream shops. If you have to sum it up in one word, the word would be disappointing. I am talking about the joint on Shattuck Ave. in the food court, where Lush Gelato used to be. Now that was great stuff. They had so many flavors they had a huge board up there with all the flavors posted, about 23 or so. They would occasionally change them, sometimes featuring exotic stuff like raspberry chocolate, creamery cowgirl or whatever they called it, you forget so long after they closed down, but it was just delish. Now, that big board is just empty. It would be silly to post their flavors up there, because they only have about 7 or 8. They post them below in a very unassuming display. And you only get one flavor per scoop, the point of which is to make you spend more and get 2 scoops. Lush would give you two flavors per scoop, and generally they were generous with the scoops. The ice cream is really expensive and you get a really small amount. I went in once, and then never went back. I can't remember what flavor i had. It was very forgettable. I say forget about this place. Better off buying ice cream at the store, and enjoying a whole bowl, than spending all that cash for one small scoop of only one forgettable flavor. read more

I'm writing this review at 5 AM - i woke up thinking about the fragrant bites of honey lavender I had the pleasure of trying yesterday. I consumed so much mediocre ice cream in attempts to fill the void left by Ici when it closed - but now i can move on without a second thought. Ici who? iScream makes the best ice cream I've probably ever had due to how salient their flavors are. This is definitely a place to bring visiting family to. I don't think you can go wrong with the flavor you pick. I've only tried their ice cream from take-home pints given to my husband, but we're already iScream loyalists. The ones we've tried so far are: Mexican chocolate Blueberry Honey lavender Coffee toffee Waiting to be tried: apple crisp, Oreo, salted caramel They are all recommended, but the most unique was honey lavender. The flavor reminded me of my trip to the Sequim lavender festival in Washington - it was so authentic and robust. The coffee toffee had crunchy bits of toffee inside that were fun to consume as well. I'll have to update this once I've tried all the flavors. I'll be scouring the reviews for what to try next. 5/5 read more

Fantastic Creamery that never disappoints. I have come here whenever I am in the Berkeley/Albany area. There is usually a line of loyal customers craving for more of iScream's delicious flavors and offerings. My favorite was their Sea Salt Caramel Ice Cream. It was heavenly and melt-in-mouth texture that made it one of my top ten favorite ice cream experiences I have had. I had most recently come back with a group of friends. The wait was about 15-20 minutes, as they only had 1-2 staff (one in front and possibly one in back), and COVID-19 distancing guidelines in place. Unfortunately, this meant that each party needed a good 3-5 minutes before they were able to be served and slowed down the process. Not a big deal. I was a bit disappointed to discover that they discontinued the Sea Salt Caramel flavor, and decided not to get anything. They start with a kid's size that is about $4.50, and it goes up to a small that costs about $5.95. I noticed that if you order it with a waffle cone, they seem to give a wee bit more ice cream than if you were to order a cup. read more

The honey lavender was actually really good. The honey component really came through and the lavender was not too overpowering. I'm always a bit cautious when it comes to floral flavors (rose, lavender, etc) because I'm just not a huge fan. However, iScream got it just right. The buttermilk berry paled in comparison. I didn't really taste any berries...and it just felt lacking after I had tried the honey lavender. As others have said, prepare to wait. I think we spent about 25-30 minutes in line and there were maybe...8-10 people in front of us (3-4 parties)? It's only one person working in the store managing the scooping and the register, so definitely be mindful of your time! read more

I really wish they had an order in advance QR code or a person out front with a tablet, but that being said, the Lavender Honey flavor was amazing. Solidly the best ice cream I've ever had (that includes Bi-Rite and Salt and Straw). It tasted a bit like my favorite mint chip (sans mint), with a touch of lavender and a smooth helping of sweetness from the honey. All in all, iScream's ice cream was super tasty. Okurr. IScream is not here to mess around. I was not expecting the ice cream here to be as good as it was. What a pleasant surprise! We're completely spoiled in the city with all our delicious ice cream options, be it Humphrey Slocombe, Bi-Rite, Mr. and Mrs Miscellaneous so I didn't think for a second this unassuming shop on Solano Ave would even be on their level but I was completely wrong. Every flavor I sampled I thoroughly enjoyed. I ended up with the blueberry and maple walnut which was an excellent combination. You could see all the blueberry skin remnants in the ice cream and we commented that it tasted like the blueberry smoothies we make at home but in ice cream form which speaks to the freshness of the ingredients. The maple walnut had walnut chunks in it that were delightfully crunchy still and the sweet maple flavor was addicting. I love that you could do 2 flavors with the single scoop ($4.75) and up to 4 flavors with the double ($7.25). There's a few tiny tables inside and after waiting for a little bit we managed to snag one. The line to order then grew to the door so I guess it's no secret around here that the ice cream is excellent. Highly recommend! read more

My wife and I were visiting Berkeley for my brother's wedding and had some time to kill. We were greeted with a half hour line when we arrived on a Friday afternoon. Seemed that it was the local school's last day so kids and their parents made up the majority of the line. Was kinda annoyed that people kept coming up that they were saving a place in line for but tried to keep having happy thoughts as I'm literally in line for ice cream... Line seemed to move slowly--there was only one employee taking handwritten orders and then would proceed to walk behind the counter to also scoop the ice cream himself. Seemed like it would be more efficient to have one taking orders and one scooping. Could be understaffed. Could also just be the way they choose to operate. Who knows. As far as the ice cream goes... 110% worth the 30 minute wait and price point. It is probably the best ice cream that I have ever had. I ordered crème brûlée, Mexican chocolate and Thai tea (see photos). So creamy and rich, with a real depth of flavor. The Mexican chocolate had a hint of spice on the backend which I totally loved. I recently ordered a custom ice cream cake from Robin and it was such an easy, painless process. We texted a few times to decide on flavors, time, location, etc. Robin even had it ready to go a half hour before the time I suggested. The cake was essentially the same price as a Baskin Robbins cake, but with higher quality and more natural ingredients, and not as sickeningly sweet. I contacted her about two weeks before my daughter's bday and Robin said all she needed was 72-48 hours advanced notice so the ice cream could set, so that worked out well. Their flavors rotate, so yes, I do get a little sad when I go and I don't see matcha (my fave!), but I use that opportunity to get another flavor that I might enjoy. I've gotten scoops of the following here - Blueberry - yummmm, with blueberry bits in there! I really enjoyed the texture and flavor of this one. Best blueberry ice cream I've had. Matcha - usually matcha flavored stuff is a bit too diluted for me, but iScream does their matcha right. Full of creaminess and matcha flavor, that I could have ordered a whole pint and ate it right there and then. Good thing for self control though. Thai Tea - my first time having a Thai tea ice cream, and it was amazing! Tasted just like Thai tea, with its creaminess and rich flavor. So very good. I also sampled the marzipan, which had a very strong almond flavor. Most flavorful almond flavored ice cream I've tried. Crème brulee, which was good, but a bit too rich for my taste. Review #133 - 2020 After our fun horseback riding adventure, I thought the girls deserved a nice, cold treat so we went to our favorite soft serve spot & found out that they'd closed early for the day. What a bummer! This was actually our third stop for ice cream and I was almost ready to give up since I was getting tired of driving around. We showed up at around 6:45 PM on Thursday, July 9th, and there was no one else in line. Yay! My 15-year old niece recognized the name & said she's been here before with one of her other auntie from her mom's side of the family and she said it was good. Being that it's during the COVID-19 pandemic, we couldn't ask for samples so I just went with the two flavors that sounded enticing to me, ginger and honey lavender. Both flavors were good, but the ginger can be a little too strong for younger kids since my 4-year old didn't really enjoy it. My 11-year old niece got the honey lavender as well; while my 15-year old niece went with the coffee toffee, I think. She said it was good! If you're in the mood for a handcrafted ice creams/sorbets made from seasonal ingredients (as well as your classic flavors) then you'll have to stop by !Scream. I can tell the difference in the quality from the very first taste. !scream uses fresh ingredients, and organic fruits from local farmers' markets. Straus family creamery anyone (if you know, you know)? There's probably going to be a short line but no worries, the wait-time will pass quickly and before you know it you'll be ordering. A little always from the University, just a few streets by the Berkeley Hills, across a tunnel, there's a nice street of cute little shops and nice little eateries. iScream has been bookmarked for quite some time so I must say that I was terribly excited to finally be trying the ice cream from here. They have about ten different flavors of ice cream. They don't overload you with how many ice cream there is like say Cold Stone or a Baskin Robbin does. I spotted the likes of Thai Tea, Strawberry, Chocolate Mint Chip, Blueberry, Cookies n Cream, and more. Being ever the ice cream enthusiast, I had to try a new flavor. The winner between Blueberry and Thai Tea was Thai Tea. So I got a scoop of that with a scoop of Cookies N Cream. Waffle or cake cone? Cake cone today! Beautiful! Delicious! The combo of the two flavors worked so well together. Just right. The cookies n cream didn't have too many Oreos taking away from the cream and the Thai Tea just tasted like well Thai Tea.
