It was a pretty small space, but decided to give it a try for a few hours. Was able to catch some fish, but it took a while longer than expected. The water was calm and serene. First time here, and I know I'll be here many times over…read more There's nothing like being near the water. The view doesn't disappoint. Totally worth the payoff of hiking down (and back up). The trail (non-paved) to the beach is moderately steep. Loose gravel in some points so be careful. It's pretty narrow too. The paved walkway backup is also steep and will get the cardio going. Along the trail are many picnic tables to sit, eat a snack, take some pics, and catch your breath. Only downside is parking is limited. Go early if you can. Overall highly recommend.

The main trail is very well kept and there are a few side trails as well to make your hike longer if desired. The views along the way are gorgeous! The only thing is that the parking lot is quite limited.

Walked around a little bit, played at the playground and relaxed a bit. He seemed to like the park. Both instances were pretty calm and chill. There weren't too many cars parked at the parking lot nor were there a lot of people. So, it was actually enjoyable to take in the nature and simple views of the park. Walked to the Vietnam War Memorial as well. A decent park for a nice stroll and to visit.

It's a wonderful community destination because it's easy to reach, and both the park and lake are generally kept clean, attractive, and well maintained. Like many popular recreation areas, the lake can become quite busy on warm days and weekends, and occasionally some litter is left behind. What I appreciate is that by the next morning the area is often cleaned up again thanks to the hard work of park staff and community members who help keep the park looking its best. One of my favorite things about Steel Lake is that it is stocked with trout once or twice each year, providing great fishing opportunities throughout much of the season. Visitors come here to fish, swim, kayak, paddleboard, and enjoy boating, with only battery-powered motors permitted on the lake. Overall, Steel Lake is a fantastic local resource that offers something for everyone and remains one of the best places in the area to spend a relaxing day outdoors.

The best part is you can visit their website and you can check if the water is okay for the kids to play with . There's usually an update regarding if you can swim and such. The only thing I'm worried about is when there is no one there to facilitate the other kids swimming, because I noticed there were lots of kids who goes there without their parents or guardians. The cops do come around for their rounds sometimes, but not all the time . I always have my eyes on my kids because there were sooooooo many people and soo many kids during school break holidays and I can't even imagine summer break. If you want to entertain your kids for hours bring them here and just have a picnic and enjoy the sand with the kids. Don't forget the shovel and bucket though lol.

The broad walk was replaced several years back and is holding up quite well, though a lot of dog owners really suck and don't clean up so watch your step! If you have a dog and forgot your poo bag they are provided (please use them!!) There's a cheap pay lot right across the street (card payments only) as well as some free street parking. The best time to come is on Saturday when the MaST aquarium is open!

The park area is pretty and inviting. I have never had any issues getting in or out of the lake. It's also nice to have a restaurant that you can pull up to in a boat to tie up for a quick bite or a drink (Al Lago). The scenery is hard to beat when Mount Rainier is out in her full glory.
