Hubby and I both got new shoes here today. TINA WAS AWESOME!!! Not only is she super nice, she's very knowledgeable and thorough. The foot and walking evaluation included her watching us both walk barefoot across and back in the store, then she used thermal boards we stood on to measure our arch and foot shape and then she measured our foot size using the metal thing most everyone is familiar with. It was a very comprehensive evaluation that you wouldn't get from REI I would definitely recommend doing your athletic gear shopping here!!! read more

As the old song goes, "I Don't Get Around Much Anymore." And even when I do, things that inspire me to write a review are few and far between. But here I am, writing about a shoe store. I can hear you exclaim, "Oy, he's gone meshuga, already!" No, Gentle Reader, I have not suddenly lost my mind--I lost that years ago! Perhaps, though, you may find my review interesting and helpful. If so, I will sleep well tonight. And if not . . . I'll sleep well, anyway. Peg developed plantar fasciitis and if you've had it, know how painful it is. Last week she visited her podiatrist who recommended a fairly high-end running shoe--Ascis GEL-KAYANO 31--and specified getting it at iRun. Neither of us knew zip about the manufacturer or about premium athletic shoes in general. But that was about to change. When we entered the store, we were greeted by the smiling face of Tina Berry, the manager. Peg explained her condition and the instructions of the podiatrist. Tina set to work. First, she measured both feet and had Peg stand up to do it--made sense as shoes aren't made for sitting but for standing. She then brought out a board with outlines of feet and asked Peg to stand on it for about 20-30 seconds. When she got off, there was an imprint of her feet, thanks to heat sensitive chemicals imbedded in the board. Tina explained what the various patterns indicated, then brought out three boxes of shoes. After the first pair was put on, she asked Peg to walk; Tina observed her gait. She switched to the other two shoes and went through the same routine. It was obvious even to me which one was clearly the winner--yep, the Ascis GEL-KAYANO 31. Just what the doc suggested. Then it was my turn. I proved to be more of a challenge (Peg's been telling me that for years). It took trying six pairs to settle on the proper one. Each had a different feel--very interesting sensation. When we were done, we settled on the same model as Peg's. However, the size I needed was not in stock, so Tina arranged for another store to ship them to me at no charge. We were there more than an hour and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it! Tina was not satisfied with anything less than the perfect fit. That she would spend that amount of time is, in today's world of lackadaisical service, extraordinary. And yes, the shoes we selected were at least twice the price as well-known brands that are widely available. But when Tina put those things on my feet, I knew they were worth every penny! You're probably sick and tired of me going on and on. But if you haven't invested in premium athletic shoes, I urge you to consider them. Literally a world of difference. I have "wonky feet" as Peg calls them and I usually feel a bit off balance. But these shoes solved that; I could walk quite fast with nary a wobble. Go see Tina at iRun Stone Oak. I've been running seriously for about 5 years. Recently I decided to start training for a half marathon. I've been training with worn shoes and had to get new shoes/equipment before my first race, a 5K. I have family members and friends who have been to iRun, but this was my first time. The sales associate Roger instantly greeted me with a smile and enthusiasm. I told him I was a beginner/intermediate runner. He was knowledgeable and patient in answering all of my questions. Roger showed me multiple shoe options that were equal to, less expensive and more expensive than my target price--as opposed to just trying to upsell me. He allowed me to take my time and test out many unique options. iRun also put on the 5K I was running. It was my first race, but I can tell they are organized and have built a great community as opposed to just being a company/store. My doc sent me here for shoes to help with my foot issues. I'm old, out of shape and was very intimidated going in. Tina put me at ease immediately. She helped me pick from several shoes the podiatrist had recommended and paid attention to how I walked in each. I'm so glad that I stopped in for new shoes! Staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Xavier was our sales person and he did an excellent job picking out the perfect shoes for both my husband and myself. We both went with Hoka shoes and I also purchased a pair of Sauconys. The prices are the same as all other shoe places but you actually get more for your money here. They have you take off your shoes and walk so that they can see what issues you need corrected. They educate you on what specific shoes can do to help and then bring out a selection to choose from. Other places just grab shoes for you and ring you up. Everyone wears a mask and there is plenty of hand sanitizer. Your temperature is taken just as you walk into the door. They also do a great job of keeping everyone separated. I won't be going anywhere else for shoes from here on out. This place is fantastic! read more

We talked through my fitting experience and, after asking more questions, we were able to come to an agreement on my shoes. The rib was referred here by her Physical Therapist to get shoes that would help with her Achilles rehab. We don't run...at all, so we would never have found this gem otherwise. Tina was great helping get my wife into a shoe that she felt very good about. Yes, it was pricey, but if it helps her be more stable and prevents further injury that's good with me. Admittedly, not being a runner, I don't know much if anything about their needs. If you are a runner and have never been in here, you may want to check them out. I was helped out by sales associate, Bryant, who was incredibly helpful with finding me a pair of shoes that my feet - and aging knees - absolutely needed. This store has a very hands-on approach, so if you don't like people touching you, you'll need to get over that quirk. It certainly helps the associate in finding the right pair of shoes, socks, and insoles for you. We tried out about four pairs of shoes, and I ultimately decided on a pair of blue Hoka Bondi 6. The prices are what you'd expect for quality running shoes. If you're military, the store offers a 10% military discount. And upon check-in Yelp provides a 10% discount coupon (I saved it for my next shopping trip). Overall, the variety isn't terrible and you can find a shoe that fits exactly the way you need, but the color selection is very limited, which is the only reason I would downgrade it a star. But because these shoes are so comfortable I'm leaving this as a 5-star store. Great customer service and prices, and I can already tell the difference in my step. read more

I started a C25K program, jacked up my knees, healed and decided to actually try a running store after reading the differences between getting fitted properly for running shoes. Rather you 1 or 100 years of age- go here. I am a complete beginner and older than most that start running. I was give the best service, fitted with expertise, advice, commentary and analysis on my gait, walk, stride and run. It was not a lengthy drawn out process, but a thorough and understanding process.. I tried on 3 different pair and bought two of the same brand. I researched running shoes in San Antonio before flying in for a visit and found this store. I went into the store a few days before Christmas in order to get a gift card for my adult son, but certainly didn't expect it to be such a nice shopping experience. The lady that helped me was amazing and went out of her way to make sure that I fully understood the​ entire process for expertly fitting running shoes. She helped me pick out really good running socks for him so that I could wrap them with the card. iRun is the perfect example of the service you should receive (and expect) from a small business - they are attentive to actual customer needs, associates are educated on their products and how to choose them, and everyone working always has time to have a short conversation to get to know the customers. These qualities set them far apart from the big guys whose employees simply want to sell sell sell. Selection is adequate to meet most runner's needs or wants. I've never had an issue finding something to meet my needs and in a few instances that I wanted something slightly different they've been happy to order it at no additional cost (i.e. different color in a shoe). They hold social runs on a weekly basis (Tuesday out of their Bitters location & Wednesdays out of the Stone Oak location) and often have shoe and equipment vendors on site during this time to showcase new products and answer questions. Many times they'll actually let you use the brand new products during the social run as a "try before you buy" with absolutely no obligation to actually make a purchase. I've done this with a Garmin GPS watch as well as several different pairs of shoes. These runs always have a light, fun atmosphere and allow you to mingle and network with other people with the same interests. I like to think of myself as a loyal, honest person. But when it comes to social runs, I am a two-timer. I love my Tuesday evenings at Pearl's Run Wild Sports, but I have a huge crush on the Wednesday night gatherings at Run On! The owners are usually on site, and they're super nice and helpful. They have great sale racks where I find myself saying unthinkable things like, "18 dollars for a pair of running shorts - what a deal!" Which is a little nuts, but once the running bug bites you, you're a goner. Also, when you run in groups and you're the only one in cotton pants in 85 degree weather, credibility is instantly lost. Maybe I just want to be pat of something... sigh. Anyway, this place is great. They offer training classes for marathons and other, less arduous races, which you have to pay for, but the Wednesday runs are free. It's kind of a pain to get to Stone Oak at 6pm on a weekday for the social run, but what if I told you that once a month, they do a runner's beer crawl?!? Amazing. I get updates on facebook. Last year when I started to train for a marathon, I decided to venture away from my go-to brand of stability running shoe to a comfy-super-soft gel sole shoe. I purchased it because they looked cute, and had decent reviews online. I ended up with a knee injury that I've now had for about 8 months now-- undiagnosed knee pain with no structural damage. I felt like I had tried everything after countless visits to the doctor, and realizing that I had never actually been fitted for running shoes. I had seen iRun Texas time and time again on my frequent guilty pleasure trips to orange leaf, and decided to check it out. I've been to this store a few times, and have loved every trip. This past time my Physical Therapist sent me (ouch ouch ouch...don't twist my arm to buy shoes! LOL!!!) because I have been having issues with my right foot and leg due to an accident. The girls there were able to help me find a much more stable shoe (I'm not in quite as much pain), and even showed me a cool way to tie my laces so there wouldn't be so much pressure on the top of my foot! I was talked into joining a Run On! running group by a friend, and I'm glad I did. I have never been a good runner, but Run On! helped me get better! A six week class in the last session ran me $105 ($10 discount if you sign up before the first class). We met two times a week at 7pm at the store in Stone Oak. From there, we split into our pace groups and did our exercise. We were usually back to the store around 8p, sometimes 8:30p depending on how long the lecture took (which is usually running health basics). I had a great time in the class! I met new people and made friends who I have been able to hang out with since the class ended. I definitely plan on signing up for the next class after summer ends. Oh, and it doesn't hurt that Run On! has some of the cutest running clothes! They also fitted me for my running shoes. The first pair didn't work out (the sole actually came off after a couple runs), they will gladly exchange any shoe you get from them if you aren't happy with it -- even if the shoe isn't defective. read more

Ridiculous. Shoe choice is worse than a choice of shoes in Siberia. I mean literally - maybe 30 or so. When I came in, the lady measured my foot and didn't even tell me to take off my warm winter socks (tf?). I am size 8, just FYI, she comes back with a size 10 and 11 (holy sh#t O_o), I don't know, maybe she missed seeing clowns, I don't know. Anyway, she was tying to tell me that's how I supposed to wear my running shoes. Slap me in the face, because maybe I am crazy. Well, guess what, later I find out that they were just out of sizes.
