Chicken Fried Steak and potatoes w/ gravy
    Angie S.

My husband and I were traveling for work, necessary as truck drivers. We have learned that Iron Skillet is one of the better travel center chain restaurants. We pulled into this Petro in Brazil and went into the Iron Skillet. This was a visit that didn't disappoint. I had the chicken fried steak, it was accompanied by real mashed potatoes. The gravy was tasty. All of this along with the usually well turned out salad bar. My husband had the chicken fingers, he said the breading was excellent, light and not greasy. The waitress and hostess were both helpful and friendly! We are becoming frequent Skillet fliers, lol. Highly recommend the Brazil, IN location.

False advertisement for specials just to attract you in then give you a smaller amount. All the signage says King Size buy one for $1 get one free but was only allowed to buy regular size for a $1 and had to .49 in tax rip off

First off it always fascinates me that when I get on these websites that many of the people on these websites just can't be pleased. Those are the ones that I just want to say stay home and cook for yourself. Now for my review of this establishment. It has always been clean every time that we have been in there. They do have a buffet that I feel is a bit overpriced for what is offered. The staff is not always the friendliest but then I think of what they have to deal with on a daily basis. Truckers these ladies are not your date and they are not there to be objectified by you. They are just trying to make a living here. Leave them alone. Now let me tell you what is awesome about this place. We get the same thing every time we go here. The hand breaded chicken tenders with the crinkle cut french fries. Always made to order and arrive at the table piping hot. The ranch they have I am not sure if it is homemade or not but it is delicious. You can get the basket which comes with 6 tenders, fries and garlic toast for $7.89 which is a great price or you can pay a couple dollars more and get a trip to the soup/salad bar with the meal. They have a pretty decent salad bar if you are one who likes salads. Last night we went and they were out of both of the main desserts which was depressing but maybe it was a sign that I didn't need it. Make sure you try the hand breaded chicken tenders you can't go wrong with them!! Pepsi products is always bonus points with me!! I will post a few pics shortly. We love this place and we live 16 miles away and still make the drive at least once a week.

I have to say the salad bar was the best, it had blueberries, strawberries and cantaloupe. The plates are either cold or warm, only thing they didnt have at the all you can eat salad bar was soft serve ice cream. Staff seemed really friendly, especially the one with the fake tan.

Carrots were a little mushy but the flavor was really good. The fish tasted great too but was kind of chewy. I attribute the textures being off due to my getting there late in the lunch rush. The freshly cooked chicken was perfect. Good food. Good service. A keeper.

Well I'll start with the waitress, ok some what friendly. Now the food, Flys blowing all over the buffet, and salad bar. I order beef brisket tacos combo. The meat has no seasoning, taco shells were very grease, and the Spanish rice had no favor all. I think they should stick to what they do best. Getting hard to find a decent meal theses days. One more truck stop off my list to eat at.

The bar is in an old historic building and the mural says the bar has been in operation for 120 years. That's a long time of weathering events such as prohibition, wars and the Great Depression. But in a small town like Brazil, you need a good bar. Inside, the bar is ancient, but tidy and comforting. I grab a seat at a high top table. Our server, Deniela, was fantastic, gave us the low down on daily specials and made a few recommendations. Water came out quickly, as did food. She checked on us regularly. I had the daily special, prime rib burrito, which was very good. The prime rib was tender and juicy. The rice was much more flavorful than the usual Tex mex rice. I loved my meal. My husband tried the breaded pork tenderloin. The breading was perfectly seasoned and the large loin was moist and tender. The bun was good, too. The hand cut chips were delicious. (I ate half his chips and could have made a meal of them.) There is street parking. I recommend a visit, but expect to be rooting for Alabama on game day. The food is delicious.

The Rueben is made with homemade corned beef, not some of that thinly sliced garbage that most places serve. This was juicy, tender, melt in your mouth goodness!! The hand breaded fish sandwich was also wonderful. You get 2 gigantic pieces of fish!! Each sandwich was served with fresh house made chips. The portions are large and you won't have a need to order more. The service was fantastic! The regulars patrons were very welcoming! It felt like we belonged at the Alabama, we will definitely be returning customers!!

It's dated in the best possible way: dim lighting, worn-in character, familiar faces, and that unmistakable local hangout atmosphere where regulars clearly outnumber first-timers. The highlight here is the Tweety Burger, and honestly, that's the reason to come. It reminded me immediately of the classic Midwest style you'd find at places like Minor-Dunn in Highland, Indiana. The patty is smashed thin and cooked flat on the grill, giving it those crispy edges and deep, savory flavor you only get from a well-seasoned griddle that's seen years of use. It tastes homemade--not engineered, not trendy, just a straightforward burger done right. You can tell they take their time with the food. Nothing feels rushed or mass-produced. The burger comes out hot, flavorful, and satisfying without trying to be gourmet or overcomplicated. No towering Instagram presentation--just a solid, honest burger that delivers exactly what you want from a local pub. Service matched the vibe perfectly. The staff were personable, welcoming, and genuinely friendly in that small-town way that makes you feel less like a customer and more like a guest stopping by a neighborhood spot. Charlie's isn't flashy. It's not modern. And if you're looking for upscale dining or trendy décor, this isn't the place. But if you want an authentic mom-and-pop tavern experience with a burger that locals clearly treat as a tradition, it's worth the stop. Best advice: stick with the Tweety Burger. Don't overthink the menu. Order it, enjoy the atmosphere, and experience a piece of local Terre Haute character. Not a destination restaurant--but absolutely a solid local classic you should try at least once.

It didn't take long for a server to say hello and get us our drinks. Food didn't take long. Mother in law like her fish and onion rings , she said they were good and not at all greasy. Husband liked his omelette and tater tots. I got the gravy and biscuits and a side of bacon. The gravy was good, not the best ever but good. The bacon was crispy and flavorful. Drinks were kept filled even though our server got slammed with a huge party that trickled in little by little. Prices were super reasonable, We'd do this again when in the area.

It wasn't clear what their hours were: the website said they were open until 4pm, while the hours posted Google and on the door said 2pm, and here on Yelp it says 3pm. They also had a paper sign taped to the door saying they would close that day at 1pm. Fortunately we made it there a half hour before closing, but it would probably be a good idea for them to sort that out across the various platforms. I ordered a latte with praline syrup which was nice (the cups and lids were kind of the best I've seen at a coffee shop, which is random, but worth mentioning) as well as a bagel and a donut. The donut was a chocolate long john and I asked the person taking my order if they were filled or unfilled. They said unfilled, which is what I wanted, but when I got back to my car, it was filled. My husband went in to place his own order, so he purchased another normal chocolate frosted donut and it was fine, but I would have been bummed if I had been on my own and gotten the wrong thing. My bagel was good and my husband enjoyed the coffee and pastry he ordered, plus my reject donut. ;) Looks like it'd be a nice place to stay and enjoy a meal or do some work, as there was a whole separate sitting area upstairs.

Anyway, walked into the cutest shop with wonderful employees ready to serve. Ordered a wonderful tasting espresso to go and a couple of donuts for the road back home. Tried the sprinkle birthday cake donut and a regular yeast donut. There were many options for bread choices and saw a large open space upstairs as well as a good amount of seating downstairs. Appears you can watch the bakery working while sitting as well, which is a nice add to any cafe/coffeeshop. PROS: Space is large and inviting Friendly staff Easy parking across the street or on the street Cake donut was great, needs a few more sprinkles but great Coffee taste was great, had a double espresso so definitely tasted the coffee Breakfast sandwiches were on the menu, did not try, but great option CONS: Yeast donut- depends on what you like. It is a thicker yeast donut not the light and fluffy I can eat 10 at a sitting type of yeast, but the taste was good HIGHLY RECOMMEND STOPPING INTO THIS ONE STOP SHOP!

It was a bit of a challenge to find - maybe my GPS was having a problem. It's on the main Street, but I was directed just past it. I had to make a couple weird turns to get back, but I don't recall seeing a big sign with the name on it. I went in and saw some people ahead of me go sit down, so I did the same. Apparently they were "regulars" and could do that... but I got a bit of a look when I sat down. The server was nice and I apologized... not sure if it mattered or not. I asked for recommendations and was told the skillets were good, and some other items - but I wanted to try the biscuits and gravy. The server said they were good, and I probably should have paid attention to her recommendation. I got a half-order of B&G, scrambled eggs, fried potatoes and sausage patty. * B&G were okay. Missing any crumbled sausage in the gravy. Biscuits were much to describe. * Sausage was like a McDonald's patty. * Eggs were very good and hot. * Potatoes were good - not as crispy as I like, but decent. The water I had seemed to have an odd taste, as did the coffee. Maybe it was a local thing. I was in-and-out in under 30 minutes. Service was good, and the restaurant seemed full of locals. I sat near the kitchen area, and there was a lot of back-and-forth yelling/talking among the staff and patrons. Overall okay... but it wasn't the best breakfast I've ever had. The locals seemed to really like it, so maybe I had an off-day experience. Next time I go to Brazil I'll try something different though.
