I dropped into OPCF while my dad was in the hospital nearby (TMC). Per my usual methodologies of…read moremeasuring boxes I visited the website to research the coaches, programming, and testimonies. After satisfying my initial screenings I reached out via email/online form to drop in for classes. I received a response within 2 hours which is far faster than responses I typically receive. The communication was concise, contained all of the information I needed and my options, and professionally written by the owner. First impressions mean a lot, and OPCF shines in this area. The whole place is clean, very well organized, and oozes with pride and personal touches put in by the owners and employees. I was also greeted by a huge smile from Dulcinea who promptly sent me on a 400m run (I was a little bit late from not knowing the area too well). Upon my return the whole process of warming up and explanation of the day was expertly done before we broke out to warm up and get into the strength portion of the day. The classes I attended in the morning were small, but the community has large personality. Everyone was super friendly and embraced me as a newcomer as if I had been a member there for years. One of the ways I determine the culture of a box is through the actions of the members. This is an establishment that obviously places emphasis on being supportive and welcoming to everyone who walks through the door, regardless of their ability level or goals. They offer at least 4 different programs (each offered through labeled classes on their schedule) that range from endurance to self-defense (and obviously CrossFit). All of this doesn't really matter if the coaches themselves are not knowledgeable or able to teach and coach members in a meaningful way. Within minutes I was getting great observations and movement tips from Dulcinea that helped me in a meaningful way and allowed me to hit a PR in my overhead squat of 220# (it was a 1RM day by chance!). She also took the time to observe and give me some pointers on the movements that were scheduled within the WOD and it can be refreshing to get some fresh pointers and PoV after being in the CrossFit community for over 6 years. Whether you are seeking a local place to enhance your overall fitness, increase your CrossFit abilities, find a supportive environment to reach your goals, or drop in to a CrossFit class while you are traveling OPCF is a choice you won't be disappointed in. With family in town I have found a location I can rely on whenever I'm visiting without any worry of schedule, flexibility of programming, or getting a great workout with a great group of people.

I have always worked on my fitness and what once worked was no longer yielding results. I came across Telos and decided to give their free class a try. I knew I had nothing to lose. Though I survived the class, I was worried that I reinjure myself by going to hard, too fast. I decided I needed professional help. I swallowed my pride and signed up right away. Started with 30 minute sessions twice a week and slowly built up to 3 times a week for 1 hour. After 8 weeks, I'm stronger, finally pain free, and I can do moves I have been unable to do in 8+ years! It still plan on joining the regular group classes but I am enjoying the personalized sessions. My trainer has my ability in mind and knows just how far I can go and pushes me a little further. I even signed my son up for the teen performance class and I love how it's given him more confidence in competitive swim and soccer. He feels stronger and when he plays against the "big kids", he no longer shys away. It can be scary trying new things but this gym is absolutely NOT intimidating. I love my hour in the gym because it's 1 hour I am dedicating to myself without distraction. I love that it's just me, my trainer, and good music. Everything else can wait. The best time to start good habits is yesterday, the next best time is today!

For one of the few boxes in Sierra Vista, as a Coach & Athlete, I can recommend for those that are traveling. Location: Crossfit Huachuca is fairly easy to find, located near the main road, once you've been there it will be easy to get to. Equipment: They have all of the common equipment that you would find in a CrossFit Box, several lifting platforms and a good amount of black mat for all the athletes. Size of Facility, Layout and Appearance: The size of the facility is accommodating to it's clients and a lot of space for expansion. The area around the box is good for any outdoor related movements. Class Schedule: Groups are primarily in the mornings and evenings. 5am, 6am, 8:30am, 4:30pm & 5:30pm. They also have an 8am Community WOD that is open to everyone, primarily focused on Metabolic Conditioning workouts. Programming: I have only been there a short while, but the programming is very simple yet effective. Not to many movements are compressed into an hour and there is enough time for any strength or technical work before the WOD. Coaching: All of the Coaches at CrossFit Huachuca are CrossFit Level 1 Trainers and many also hold other CrossFit Specialty and/or Industry Certifications. Whenever I visit a box I always take a look at the Coaching staff to have a heads up before going so we may be able to share thoughts, idea, methodologies, etc. Staff is very friendly and easy to talk to. New Member Classes: They do offer foundations classes for athletes starting out in CrossFit. I cannot speak much to the foundations program as I have not enough time observing the class. Community: The athletes at CrossFit Huachuca are very close and friendly. For athletes that travel, we know that each community has their differences but with the same goals in mind. Pricing: The pricing is very reasonable. For traveling athletes, if you decide to do all your WODS at CF Huachuca, you can go ahead and pay for a pro-rated membership based on your stay. Scheduling: At the time of this review, CF Huachuca uses MindBody, but you do not have to sign-up for classes. All you need to do is just show up on time. CrossFit Huachuca is an awesome box and if i'm ever in the Sierra Vista area i'll be sure to pay them a visit again.
