I've taken my time to leave this review because I was so upset with our last interaction that I was sure I would leave one star and knew I needed some time to cool off. Dr. Gonzalez is a decent pediatrician. She did an okay check up with my daughter and also filled out her paperwork for preschool. The office wasn't over the top about fees for filling out paperwork and I appreciate that when we switched doctors they did not charge us to send her file over to our new office. What bothered me about this office initially is that it is kind of hard to get an appointment since it is just Dr. Gonzalez. One day my daughter's school called me on a Friday morning to come get her and were worried she might have an ear infection (she was tugging at her ear and had a mild fever). I called Dr. Gonzalez's office immediately only to learn the doctor wasn't available on Fridays. I soon learned she isn't available a lot of days of the week for at least half the day. I was told several times to take my daughter to urgent care instead, which is a $75 copay on my insurance.. this was during the regular work week and definitely bothered me. The last straw was how the office treated us when my daughter had a finger infection. We took her to urgent care since it first began on the weekend but then it seemed to get worse and it was clear the nail needed to be removed/antibiotics might be needed. I called Dr. Gonzalez's office on a Monday morning knowing that her week should have an opening at some point to take a look. They refused to make an appointment for me at all. I was told to "take her back to the urgent care that messed up"; no idea if they really messed up or if her finger just got worse but this was the gist of what I was told by the office. The woman I spoke to over the phone was very rude/abrupt with me and it felt terrible to have this kind of interaction as a worried parent who needed medical care for her child. This seemed very unreasonable to me (also not a good idea...) and I definitely became upset that her pediatrician refused to see her. I called Descanso Pediatrics hoping we could switch to them/see a licensed pediatrician vs. an NP at a random urgent care and lo and behold- they had me bring her in an hour later, as a brand new patient to look at and treat her finger. They are amazing by the way.. we never looked back. read more

Now Dr. Gonzalez has stopped seeing ill children altogether. Since the pandemic she is only seeing children for their regular checkups. And here we are ONE YEAR LATER in April 2021 and it's still the same policy. It doesn't matter if it's for a bladder infection (like our child has) and has nothing to do with COVID, she won't see you. To me, the pediatrician that we've been loyal to, through some trying times (see earlier review) just gave up on us and said "Go to an Urgent Care. You're on your own." Does she have any idea how annoying it is to go to random Urgent Care for them to tell you, "Make sure you go to your pediatrician to check out your child after all this as they know your child's history, etc." Then when what the Urgent Care is doing isn't working and you have to go back, and deal with them again? Someone who doesn't know your child's medical history. We're done with Dr. Gonzalez. Her and her practice have some nice qualities but there's too much on the negative side. read more

We chose Dr. Gonzalez as our child's pediatrician at the recommendation of our OB/GYN, who we think is great. It was because of this that we stayed with Dr. Gonzalez for way too long and ignored our gut telling us it wasn't a good fit. Dr. Gonzalez is fine, hence the 3 star rating. Not great and not horrible. We have been taking our child for 4 years and we are done! While the office's after hours service is great, everything else is just average. We always felt that Dr. Gonzalez was very dismissive of our concerns or questions. She is very short with her visits and isn't very inviting of questions. She shows no warmth toward our child, which I would expect from a pediatrician. Our child is very shy and she never tries to put our child at ease. Instead she is brusque and judgmental of our child (and seemingly us as parents), despite the fact that our child is a toddler who inevitably has moments of less-than-perfect behavior. There was always a nagging feeling that this was not a good fit, but we ignored it. Then one day we saw another doctor who was working in the same office on a part-time basis. The difference was astounding! Our child was still shy, but the doctor, who had never met our child before, took just a few moments to try to engage and within minutes got our child to open up and be calm and talkative through the entire check up. The staff is ok. Also not very warm with the kids. Appointments are really difficult to get. Despite all that, we kept going, because we thought we could see the other doctor from now on. But she's no longer with the office. This last visit was the last straw. Over the phone, I confirmed with the receptionist that we would not need to pay for a school form to be filled out, since it was being done as part of an annual physical. Well, they charged us $20 anyway and acted like we had never had a conversation before. The doctor was again judgmental of our child and scolded them, which is completely inappropriate. If I need your input, I will ask for it. Otherwise, please keep your unsolicited opinions to yourself. Being a parent can be challenging and we are all doing the best that we can. A pediatrician should be a supportive ally, not an adversary. I am willing to pay more and go with an out of network doctor and get the level of care that I think our child deserves, than to settle for what this office provides. read more

I brought my daughter here for the first 19 months of her life. At first they seemed like a great place, but that was before anything was actually wrong with my daughter. Over the course of a month they failed to recognize multiple times that my toddler had two very serious and potentially life threatening illnesses that ended up with a multiple day stay at Huntington Hospital Peds Unit. Each time I called concerned about her persistence high fever and other symptoms, they dismissed my concern and said I'm sure she is fine. Well she was not fine. They also do not do a good job at following up with vaccinations. 2x they called me asking if they could reschedule my daughter, because the office was overly busy. Both times no one ever called me back to reschedule those appointments. They are also closed for an extremely long lunch 12-2 and on a few days the doctor is not there after 2pm which leave you to bring your sick child to urgent care instead. PRO: The doctor is very nice but there is only one doctor in this practice read more

Dr. Gonzalez is the best pediatrician! Her office staff are very wonderful also. They are all genuinely caring, patient, and have positive attitudes when answering any of my questions/concerns. I like that Dr. G's style is straight to the point and she doesn't confuse you with too many details. She always emphasizes important information to remember during appointments. She also provides very useful handouts about medications, feeding, potty training, and other helpful information I would never even think to ask about. Dr. G is super knowledgeable and helps ease my anxieties at checkups when she explains normal developmental milestones, tips on enforcing healthy sleeping habits, and other random tips on parenting. It is amazing how she can remember details and asks follow-up questions about my baby when we have appointments months later. After trying her suggestions, I forget that we even had those previous issues with my baby by the next appointment. The nurses in the office are very quick/friendly when giving vaccines and during other procedures, which helps because my baby has 1 of the top 3 worst scream cries I've ever experienced while personally working with 2000+ babies. I really appreciate that Dr. G and her staff have always been professional and never made me feel guilty/uncomfortable like other friends/family who cannot hide their shock at my baby's ear-piercing cries. Also, 10 minutes in baby time can make a huge difference, so I think it is great that appointments don't fall too behind and are quick/easy. We are usually out in 20min from walking in, which is super helpful when breastfeeding or trying to stick with a nap schedule. Dr. G has been seeing my baby for almost 2 years now and I'm lucky to have her as a doctor for my 2nd baby in a few months. I was considering changing insurances for a family plan with my husband, but I feared losing Dr. G as a pediatrician so I decided to pay more and keep my current insurance plan. I've also experienced many pediatricians (8-9) for myself, since I moved a lot, and can honestly say that none of my own awesome pediatricians were as awesome as Dr. G. I noticed that in negative reviews of Dr. G's office, people had issues with booking appointments. Unfortunately, any good doctor's office is going to be booked for weeks in advance because patients want them as doctors. I've had to go to urgent care for the flu, injuries, or prescriptions because I couldn't book same week appointments with my primary physician. It must be more stressful because it is your baby, but it is unfair to be upset at Dr. G's office for healthcare/ insurance issues that are common for everyone in the country. read more

Dr. Gonzalez takes the time to understand them, guide them (and me!) through next steps in development and be there for all the invariable ups and downs of colds, flus, childhood illnesses. My son had been a patient of Dr. Gonzalez since 2016, and upon having a second child I requested she be our new son's pediatrician even after moving to Santa Clarita in 2017. Hence my reluctance to leave this review. Unfortunately, I felt I was left with no other recourse. I asked for a personal email address to Dr. Gonzalez, but instead I was given the office staff's email, and since my issue is with them it seemed futile at best. So...I had the worst possible experience with Dr. Gonzalez's office staff this week when bringing my two month old son in for his routine visit. My appointment was on a Thursday, and on Tuesday I received a reminder call. Great, right!? Well, Thursday morning I began my drive to the office. After arriving in Pasadena, my husband calls frantically asking me had I checked my voicemail. The doctor's office staff had called him to inform us they would not be able to see our child because insurance was not active. I told him I had not received any calls, and I would instead pay cash and handle the issue with my employer later. I arrived at the office and they refused to see my child. When I inquired about why they had not informed me sooner than me leaving my house for an hour drive, they stated they'd called me personally three times and left messages. I requested to see the caller ID, and of course, they had called the wrong phone number. With no apology, they went on to tell me I could not pay cash as it was office policy. By this time, my newborn is wailing in the hallway (as we were not allowed to enter due to Covid-19 protocols). The condescending nurse thought it was a good idea to say to me "This is why we tell you to start working on insurance at the two-week visit!". At that point, I lost it. I asked for my children's immunization records (they refused to provide any other medical records), and I texted my MD friend for a pediatrician recommendation. Before I could get to my car, with my newborn in tow, I had resolved the insurance issue (there was a delay due to COVID), and made an appointment with another doctor. However, I refused to turn around and go back to see the doctor. I hope to never see her again. Dr. Gonzalez never intervened to attempt to mitigate the issue. She should establish better policies and properly train her inept staff. Parenting is tough as it is and only made that much more difficult with the pandemic. More care and concern should be shown to your loyal clientele. read more

We are so grateful for Dr. G. We just had a baby and she was able to catch something that needed attention and was conservative in her approach which is honestly quite comforting for parents of a newborn. She also told us that she thought of our daughter at 3:30 am about a certain test she needed and called the nurse right away so our daughter wouldn't have to be pricked twice. That showed us how much she cares. We have been coming here for 6 years because of our older daughter and are grateful to have Dr. G looking after our girls. read more

The rooms are adorable with a well and sick waiting room. I'm so glad I found this office and wish I lived closer to them so she could be my baby's pediatrician forever. Words can't describe how great Dr. Gonzalez is. We are so glad that Dr. Gonzalez is back at Children's Clinic. She is wonderful with children, and with parents as well. Her assessment skills are perfection. She doesn't rush through her exams. She also has great follow up. If your child has any other conditions, or is being seen by a specialist she request those records as well. Our child is being seen by an orthopedic specialist for the last few years. As soon as Dr. Gonzalez came back she asked if she could request for the most recent information on our child from the specialist. I'm going to assume that is because she wants a clear picture of the whole child. I highly RECOMMEND Dr. Gonzalez if you want your child to have a caring and competent pediatrician. My husband and I are so lucky to have found Dr. Gonzalez. She is extremely knowledgable, very helpful, patient and has a great sense of humor. She has a great deal of experience as she has worked in several settings such as the emergency room. We ask a lot of questions and she clearly explains everything in detail. We wanted an extended vaccine schedule for our girl and she was very accommodating. She spends a lot of time with us unlike other doctors who are always in a rush. My husband and I have been very happy with Dr. Gonzalez and staff. Our son has been going to her since he was born and is now three. He enjoys coming to her office as it is nice and cheerful, the doctor always comes into the room with a comforting demeanor and we typically have a hard time leaving after our appt because of the fun toys in the waiting room. Dr. G has always been accommodating when our son has needed a sick visit appt and is quick to provide resources to specialists as needed. She is also wonderful at providing little gems of information developmentally appropriate to the child. Dr. Gonzalez is the third pediatrician within a year for my child. I think she's a keeper! We have finally found someone with the right combination of high care level and staff who also share the same level of care. She has a wonderful manner, very gentle and approachable to kids and parents. She's very thorough in her checkup, asking lots of questions and also giving great advice. I like that she gives you the heads up on changes to expect from the child before the next well-baby visit. Always a good thing for first time parents! I also loved her patient room with the fish and the scuba diver painted on the walls. Lots to keep a child occupied! Parking is limited, so you may find that you need to park on the residential street. read more

Dr. Gonzalez is very pushy to get the MMR vaccination for your child. My child is up-to-date on all the vaccinations except for the MMR. Dr. Gonzalez refuses to see my child because of the MMR vaccination. I respect Dr. Gonzalez In her work; however, she needs to respect me as a parent if I want to delay the controversial MMR vaccination. Update on this office. The bills will never end. I pay all of my bills as soon as I receive them. However the bills with this office keeps on coming in. It gets frustrating when you can't even remember the visits. It's been two years since I stopped going to this office and I am still receiving bills from 2015 and 2016 for office visits. Don't be fooled by Irma's smile. This review is long overdue. My wife and I were first introduced to Dr. Irma Gonzalez after the birth of our first son in 2018 at Huntington Hospital. She has been providing outstanding medical care for him since birth. Being a new parent can be scary and not always knowing what to do is very daunting. However, if there was anything we were ever concerned with regarding his health or just being new parents, Dr. Gonzalez and her staff always picked up the phone and provided sound, sensible, and honest advice. Dr. Gonzalez proactively shares the do's and dont's of caring for a child at every visit and you walk away feeling confident and stress free. Additionally, our son has had some health issues that required the care of a specialist and we have had great success with those referrals from her. During these challenging 3 years, Dr. Gonzalez was never out of reach to us and for that we are grateful. Now, we have welcomed our second son this month and it was an easy choice to choose Dr. Gonzalez as our child's pediatrician. Dr. Gonzalez was at the hospital within just a few hours of his birth. She made sure to check in on us while we were at the hospital and was extremely flexible with her schedule. Dr. Gonzalez's office is located in a beautiful part of Pasadena and parking has never been an issue for us. The medical office is very quiet and easy to navigate. The office staff has always utilized safe practices during visits, especially during the pandemic. My wife and I can honestly say that we truly trust our children's health and wellbeing with the great work and services that Dr. Gonzalez provides. We take both of our children to Dr. Gonzalez, as we have since our first was born. She is great with kids, courteous, knowledgeable, approachable, and unafraid to tell you what she thinks, regardless of what you might think. I met with Dr. Gonzalez 1 month prior to the delivery of my twins. She was very nice, calm and friendly. My twins are almost two now and I am extremely happy with her care. She is always able to speak to me in a timely manner and her staff is very friendly. She is very good with the kids and it shows she really care about their development. Dr Gonzalez is the Jewel of Pasadena pediatrics. She is attentive and empathic to you and your child's needs, especially upon their arrival. Her kind and warm staff reflect the ethos of putting your child's needs first. Dr Gonzalez provides you with guidance and milestones your child should reach at all stages of development i.e bottle removal, potty training, dental hygiene etc. Dr Gonzalez was at our hospital room from day one and continues to be our first call when we have questions about a cold, cough, stuffy nose. I interviewed Dr. Gonzalez while I was pregnant. Being a first time parent, I had a lot of questions when searching for a pediatrician. She was the first one I interviewed and luckily I didn't have to look any further. She has a great personality, good bed side manner, and tells it like it is. She is thorough and very knowledgeable. She answers all my questions and is never in a rush. I hate it when doctors make you feel rushed - even when they come in to see you late! Luckily, she doesn't do this. Dr. Gonzalez was featured in Pasadena Magazine as one of Pasadena's top docs and now I know why. She's a solo practitioner but she has a back up doctor. Even though she's in a building with other doctors, they are in a separate practice. The office has flexible hours (evening and weekend). You can also call if you have an issue and get help 24-7. Parking isn't so good so you will probably end up parking in the residential area at some point. I am happy I found such a great pediatrician! read more

We have been patients of Dr Gonzalez for several years now. We found her on Yelp actually. Our previous pediatrician just wasn't a good fit for us and had actually made several mistakes with our son. From the very beginning, Dr Gonzalez has been spot on with both our son and also our daughter. She is just a very knowledgeable dr with a a lot of experience. She is very patient but at the same time is concerned with making sure my kids are healthy and happy. She also knows I'm a bit of a worrier and has helped me navigate through some tough situations. Also, I know if something were very serious that she'd be all over it. I can't say enough nice things about her. We just love her and we wholly trust her with our children. There's a sea of doctors out there, but they aren't all excellent. She's a gem. read more

Pros: she accepts alternate vaccine schedules. We are seen quickly when arriving. The girls write down vaccine info on my baby's immunization card. Yes I'm one of those parents I know. I roll my eyes at myself sometimes. Cons: there was one specific girl in the office that ALWAYS I mean 100% of the time got our insurance info wrong. Pulled up wrong one, billed wrong one, etc which was kind of annoying. Always got calls on that and had to resubmit insurance info. Because of that it took me way longer to get a breast pump for my baby. Delayed it almost a month because I was running in circles with her regarding insurance info as the process for getting a breast pump with each plan is different. The other two girls are great. Anyway my husband decided he was too annoyed by this so we switched doctors. read more

Having had my first child pass away only hours after being born with no warning signs and through a very healthy pregnancy, I was very concerned that I chose a doctor that had the qualifications I was looking for with my second born. I found Dr. Gonzales out of luck! I was looking for a pediatrician that would have privileges at Huntington Memorial (where I decided to give birth due to having a fantastic NICU - again that PTSD from losing my first child) and she was one of the doctors who had the best reviews and to top it off was very knowledgeable when it came to emergency medicine. You can ask her anything and she has a no BS type approach with your children's health. She cares about her patients and wants to make sure that you are taking the proper precautions as a parent to keep them healthy as well. She understands cultures and is open to alternative medicine to a certain point (i.e. I am Hispanic and she would let me know that it was okay to do a home remedy tea for the cough my son had if I felt strongly about it but to give him no more than 2 teaspoons of it). My son loves her and we are sad that we moved out so far away that I can no longer bring him here. I wish she had an office closer to LA. If we ever move back, we know where to go. read more

Dr. Gonzalez is an excellent pediatrician. She's spent many years caring for children in a hospital E.R., so she's been around the block a few times and has seen it all. I wouldn't describe Dr. Gonzalez as a warm, fuzzy "Patch Adams" kind of pediatrician, but she's definitely not callous either, and is gentle handling all children, especially newborns. (My baby was a preemie and I appreciate the car she took in handling her.) Dr. Gonzalez is a solid, fully knowledgeable and trustworthy doctor. I trust her advice and heed her recommendations, because I sense she really, really knows what she's talking about. When I found out my Ob-Gyn was having a baby the same time I was and he that chose Dr. Gonzalez to be his child's pediatrician, I knew I made the right decision. I would recommend Dr. Gonzalez to any family member or close friend who is having a baby and is determining who should care for their child. Side note: The office and patient rooms are kind of tiny, but it works out just fine. Also, she has a waiting room especially set aside for sick children, which I appreciate. She does take in un-vaccinated children, but they are only allowed to come into the office on certain days and certain times, to avoid putting other children at risk. Lastly, you do have to pay $2-$6 for parking *if* you park in the parking lot, but there's also free street parking available if you can find a spot. read more
