After going through the list of pediatricians associated with Methodist Hospital, I decided to go with Dr. Hu. While he wasn't readily available because my daughter was born on the weekend, he was able to meet us Monday morning for a checkup. Dr. Hu is very knowledgeable and kind. As first time parents, there's always a lot of anxiety whether we are doing things correctly and what not. He is always able to reassure us that we're doing great. His schedule is pretty full so I recommend making appointments months in advance if possible. read more

Love! We got assigned to dr hu when we had our son at methodist. He's provided wonderful comprehensive care for our baby boy. Appointments are pretty accurate. I like how they have a separate entrance for kids who are sick and not sick. There's also a separate infant room. With multiple doctors in the practice, there's always someone else to cover behind if the doctor is off. The doctors are great with follow up phone calls as well. Going off my list of referrals from my wonderful OB, I gave my blind trust to Dr. Hu with my child. I was very fortunate that my gullible trust turned out to be such a blessing in this case. Dr. Hu is everything I could ask for in a pediatrician. Being the first time parents that we were, my husband and I didn't even realize our baby had jaundice when he was as yellow as a squash (I know, right?!?). It was Dr. Hu who caught it during the 1st week check-up. Then came the incident of the ankle skin infection and the possible diagnosis of osteomyelitis and its implication of surgery. Again, there I was thinking it was just a sprain when the poor little guy couldn't even move his left leg. In both of these unfortunate incidents and after gaining a wealth of medical terminology, I can seriously sign my life away to Dr. Hu. He shows the utmost concern for his patients and provide prompt follow up, which is such a blessing because as dramatically as it sounds, every second, every minute can make a difference. I remember being in the waiting room with one of his patients, who I overheard lives in the South Bay area. There I was wondering why they would drive such a long distance when I'm sure there's plenty of good pediatricians out there. But after my personal experience, I can attest to why. We do crazy things for our kids so why wouldn't we drive miles and miles to see a pediatrician who we wouldn't lose sleep over? read more

In my opinion, this physician is not suitable for new mothers who are breastfeeding.He may be professional, but he's definitely not a good communicator or listener. He did not explain in detail the newborn's condition to the new parents, but instead pressured them to feed their infant formula in front of him without offering them an alternative. Additionally, his office staff treated a crying baby like he/she was an object, not a precious human being. I saw Dr. Hu on the Arcadia Methodist List of Pediatricians when I was about ~8 mos pregnant. I yelped all the docs on the list and Dr. Hu was the only one that had outstanding reviews. He is in the same building as Dr. Yu, my OB/GYN (also an excellent Dr. and who delivered my son back in 11/2011). Dr. Hu came to my room the day after my son was born to check him out. He's very calm and attentive. Awesome doctor. Speaks Mandarin. I have no complaints. Staff is wonderful and helpful. Very knowledgable about children. He is as good as it gets! read more

I picked Dr. Hu for my first child because he was so popular. He is attentive and pretty thorough. However, he is a bit too busy, so you don't get the individualized attention you would get from a ped who is not so busy. First, it's very hard to make an appointment with him. Second, there are pretty long waits for wellness visits (having your naked baby wait 30 plus minutes in the exam room is not uncommon). Third, I feel like he doesn't remember a lot of details and doesn't really have time to look up his notes on his computer, so he constantly asks you the same questions or make the same comments every wellness visit. The good thing about this clinic is there are a bunch of doctors, so chances are really good that you will be able to see someone on Monday through Friday if an illness pops up. The nurses and people who answer the phones are pretty helpful. If this place wasn't so close by and didn't have a lot of other peds, I would be tempted to change. If you are okay with waiting and okay with being herded like cattles through the system, this is not a bad choice. However, if you child has special issues and need special attention, I'm not sure this would be my choice. Overall, I would recommend but just know what you are getting into ahead of time. read more

Dr Hu is so awesome. I selected him as my pediatrician for my baby once I had my baby at Arcadia Methodist Hospital. He is super sweet and caring. Extremely gentle with my LO and asks alot of questions regarding development and feeding. His care is definitely for the baby. The office itself is on the way back from Methodist Hospital in the brown building. Floor 3, make a right at the elevator and it will be in the corner. You sign in at the front desk. Make sure if you have a newborn,you go in the newborn room so that your baby isn't around the other kids who may be sick. It's good to know you are kinda quarantined from the regular kids. Each waiting area had coupons for ointment, medicine etc.they have little play toys for kids to play with while waiting as well which is pretty neat. The nurses are pretty nice and helpful. WOW! My kids actually have Dr. Dimen as there Doctor but she wasn't available so we got an appointment with Dr. Hu (Pronouned WHO), he was so attentive and caring, and patient! (my kids are a handful). He was very thorough and talked to my daughters very lovingly. I definitely recommend him. I have to chime in here. Dr. Hu is a great doctor, and no, I am not associated with him in anyway. Probably the only thing I can think of is that he is popular, meaning it can be difficult to reschedule appointments. But think In-N-Out burger-- the lines follow the quality! Excellent doctor! I have a 7 y.o. boy and 3 y.o. girl who have been going to him since they were born. Dr. Hu's good with the kids and patient with the parents. He is especially helpful for second-generation families who have to deal with first-generation pressures while raising kids here. Dr. Hu is the guy that you can use as your support when your parents are driving you crazy with their cultural cures. Another upside, he's part of a pediatric practice with many female physicians if that is your preference so the whole family can be taken care of at the same place. Dr. Hu was recommended to me by a friend, a week before I had my son. She had interviewed several doctors and was really pleased with his bedside manner and education. Dr. Hu, though always busy, has always been a very nice and caring doctor, always very attentive to all the concerns of a new parent. He also teaches a parenting class at the Arcadia Methodist and has 4 daughters of his own! I have since recommended him also to my friend who's having a baby any day now. If you plan on having children then this is the doctor you want taking care of your kid. The office he works for has 4 or so pediatricians. So if your doctor isn't around, another capable one would help out. His office is with the Huntington Memorial Medical Group, so you may want to check your insurance to make sure you can get them. Even though the drive is somewhat far for us, we know that our child is in very good and capable hands. The staff is very friendly and the office waiting area is very well organized. It separates toddlers from infants and very sick to minor illnesses. There is a nurse on call that will help you with simple questions. Pamela is also a Lactation nurse that will help you with breast feeding problems. She always calls back the same day and sometimes within minutes depending on level of illness. Dr. Hu and his team do make sure your kid is okay. He calls us to give us blood results. He calls us to make sure our kid is doing better. We definitely feel safe with this Dr. Hu and his team. You can take your kid in 8:30am-9:00am without any appointment for illnesses only. Open Saturday mornings for sick kids too. Otherwise, make your normal appointments. Awesome. We delivered at Huntington Memorial and Dr. Hu came by to see our newborn on both Saturday and Sunday even though it was Mother's Day weekend. He explained what and why he was checking various parts/functions/reflexes as he does his exam and seems very thorough. Our baby had jaundice and Dr. Hu saw him three times after we left the hospital to monitor his jaundice level to make sure that everything was okay. Finally I do not have to take my 14 month old son to this pediatrician. I found a way better pediatrician, Dr Mai. I did interview him and many others before my son was born. He was great at that time. He seems professional, knowledgeable, caring, and very thorough, but throughout the 14 months he was not great. I felt rushed, not very caring, he doesn't explain in detail about some of my sons symptoms like Dr. Mai did. My son had eczema, clogged tear duct, nighttime cough with mucus for all of these symptoms I had to find a specialist to explain to me and help me (ex. he told me the wrong way to massage the clogged tear duct which made it worst) Dr Mai made me worried free. And when on the phone he sounded like he was annoyed when I asked him questions which I felt very upset. read more

All the good reviews about Dr Hu are correct!! BEST pediatrician I have EVER had and I have three kids so Ive seen it all. MAKE HIM YOUR PEDIATRICIAN AT BIRTH!! WHY?: Because If you do not elect him as your pediatrician to check your baby right after birth while still in the hospital you may not be able to get a spot with him because he only accepts new borns right now as new patients. Why?? because he's in super high demand!! not because he's rude! lol. Do not be turned off by the slightly longer wait times. He spends a lot of time with each patient. He never rushes or makes you feel like hes in a hurry. He takes his time and answers all and any questions thoroughly, and without judgement. Hes not pushy with vaccines. I have been taking my 3 kids to him since they were babies. He doesn't automatically prescribe antibiotics at the first sign of fever. He is very conservative about giving medicine. He always talks to my kids while examining them and that makes them feel at ease. However, he is always busy. It's difficult to get an appointment with him when my kids are sick. I have six children and we have been with Huntington Medical Foundation for 27 years. There are many qualified doctors here but I have to say that Dr. Hu is among the top pediatricians. Eighteen years ago, my daughter was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). At that time, we had Dr. Leung who was very good but had goals of opening his own practice. Once I learned this, I began to panic. How was I going to find another doctor who knew what CF was and how to treat.( CF at that time was not covered well in medical schools) Dr. Leung assured me that they had just hired a young, smart, enthusiastic doctor who would be willing to learn about CF if I was willing to give him a try. I made the best decision choosing Dr. Hu! He quickly learned about Cystic Fibrosis which really helped me trust him and he established contact with the pulmonologist at Children's Hospital L.A. so whenever my daughter was seen at either place, her record was up to date. He does not rush and he answers your questions. He is difficult to get an appointment with since everyone wants him as their pediatrician but if you call a week ahead you can get in or you can do a "walk-in" M-F 8:15 - 8:30 a.m. We have also seen Dr. Mechoso and Dimen, both who have an extended knowledge of my daughter's condition.We have been very happy with all the doctors and staff at HMF. I have been going to Dr. Hu since 2002 (yes, over a decade) with two children. While he is a great doctor, the low rating here reflects how difficult it is to make an appt to see him. I just called them to set up an annual check up (it's Sept 2) and I could not get an appt until middle of December. I understand he no longer takes new patients-- he should have stopped taking new patients years ago as he is way oversubscribed. The wait in the office is also extremely long. In the 13 years we've been going to him, I would say that the average wait time to see him is about 30-45 minutes, that's once you are inside an exam room! read more

Before my daughter was born in 08/09, I did a lot of research to find a good local pediatrician. I stumbled upon Dr. Hu as being part of a group of Dr's in Arcadia, which is very close to my home. I called prior to my delivery and the staff was very helpful with a very anxious mom-to-be and answering all my questions about the office and Dr. Hu. I also was able to make an appointment with him personally before my daughter was born...kinda like an interview. I found him to be very patience and very detailed which is what I wanted. Since My daughter has been born Dr. Hu has been excellent with her. I know he has a lot of patients but always seems to remember my daughter and her funny personality. Dr. Hu has been my son's pediatrician since he was born at Arcadia Methodist Hospital back in Nov of 2002. Dr. Hu is very thorough and dedicated. My son has a medical condition and Dr. Hu is very good about following up and referring us to specialists. The office also has several other doctors so if he is not available, it is easy to get an appointment. The staff is great, very friendly and helpful. The nurse practicioner is very quick to respond and usually can help over the phone. I recently found out a new mom that I know also goes to Dr. Hu and she loves him too.
