ZERO STARS!!! This place should be shut down! Horrible experience! Horrible staff! Horrible doctor! Dr.Hoang doesn't care about his patients. I would not recommend him at all. Before writing this post, I noticed a few reviews got removed because Dr.Hoang claims the reviews are fake. It was probably his employee complaining about him, which I do not blame them cuz he is probably a horrible boss. He makes fun of his patients and made inappropriate comments about LGBT (lesbians, gays, bisexual, transgender). Are you kidding me?? How inconsiderate and RUDE!! Unbelievable. Not professional at all. Dr. Hoang makes himself available but when you call him he is very rude and pretends he doesn't know you. I have called him several times and he is not friendly. I was in the waiting room and the receptionist told the doctor he has a phone call. He takes the call in the hallway and when he enter the room he rolls his eyes and makes a comment to me about the person on the phone. He talks about his patients to other patients. Who does this? The doctor doesn't see the patients but instead sends an intern student with no degree to check on my kids health. I did not like my experience here for my kids. He doesn't seem to really care or inform you much of what's going on with your kids. Do not recommend for any parents. read more

I'll start with the pros: * the nursing staff is pleasant and nice * you can pretty much guarantee to see the doctor any time you want, my wife and I have never had a problem getting an appointment, even if it was the day of * facility is clean and well maintained * getting a doctor's note is easy and free Cons * Hardly get to see Dr. Hoang. He has a stream of students that come through and he's training. I have to explain my son's problem every time I'm there * Dr. Hoang doesn't seem to have a very good memory of what's going on with my son's situation. So our son was born on the 50th percentile and dropped. There was a point where he wasn't gaining any weight. Dr. Hoang wasn't able to really advise us to what to do with our kids except to tell us "get him to eat more". Well, that really didn't help us and we had to figure out how to feed him and get his weight up. Dr. Hoang will constantly forget that our son hates the bottle, or won't drink from it. He didn't recommend a very good treatment for our son's acid reflux (we had to go to a GI for that). He just didn't seem like a very attentive doctor. We ended up finding another pediatrician once our son stabilized. read more

I have 3 kids, and we've been coming to Dr. Hoang for over 5 years. We love him, his nursing staff, and the front desk staff. Dr. Hoang is always attentive, super thorough, and looks at all the scenarios. My husband is an engineer and questions every detail, and Dr. Hoang is very knowledgeable, and his treatment plans are up to date with the latest findings in medicine. He's very direct, which we appreciate, and he's got a great sense of humor! I tried to get an appointment with our primary pediatrician but couldn't because of the long weekend. So I called a few places and this was the only office that had an appointment available. The front desk and a male nurse (who I thought was the doctor and acted more like a doctor) were nice but Dr Viet was not. I've not seen a doctor with such horrible bedside manner and hygiene process. He came into the exam room and washed his hands for 3 seconds and the whole time his mask was not covering his nose, during the PANDEMIC. He touched the mask and his nose, and used the SAME hand, without washing, to touch my kid's face. I was horrified. He was also extremely judgmental and make it sound like you are bad parents and you have the worst kid ever just because of some extremely minor birth condition that don't impact her daily life. He commented, word to word "you have a very difficult kid, she has A LOT of problems" That should not come out from a healthcare professional. Your unsolicited comment with the frowns on your face are the problems, not my kid. Parents, if you don't have kids with perfect health conditions, don't come here. Seriously, don't. If you have kids who have perfect health condition, go somewhere else to get regular checkup before he makes you feel like your healthy kid has brain tumor because that's what he would be doing. He kept asking us to go to neurologist and made everything sound like end of the world. All we wanted to get checked was ear infection. Note that my kid get seen at Children's Hospital regularly and she has team of experts for preventive monitoring and had list of professional recommendations against what this doctor has asked us to do. I'm glad that I went in with this background because he made it sound like she's seriously wrong in many ways when I know she doesn't. His attitude toward his staff was another big no. The first thing he walked in was condescending how the nurse practitioner (I assumed his position because none of them introduced themselves) took the notes. As mentioned, the nurse acted very professional and I thought he was the doctor. I wished our visit just ended with the nurse as well. I've not seen a doctor worse than this one in my entire life seriously. Another red flag was that I was holding my toddler against my chest when he reached to check her lungs, did not even notify her nor me. In times like this...Would appetite if the Doctor keeps his mask on. We can hear you even with your mask on, there's absolutely no need to pull it down to talk. Like what other people mentioned, he touches in mask and without washing his hands, he was touching my baby's face, body and hands.. Also, would be great if doctor could remain in the room instead of going in and out... he speaks to us but then continues his sentences while looking at his coworkers and eventually started chatting with his staff... HELLO???? I honestly think all these 5 star reviews are fake. **Please read on** I was considering changing doctors for my almost 3yr old son who has developmental delays. I read the bio, all these reviews and decided to take him in for a visit. First off, the Asian girl at the front desk should NOT be working the front desk. Her English is very hard to understand, to top it off not the friendliest. Not a good combo for front desk at a Pediatricians office. More about her later. When Dr. Hoang came in he was friendly and professional enough. My husband and I voiced our concerns and asked him questions. He observed our then 2 year old for a minute, then said "he looks like there is something wrong" then proceeded to explain how he knew the head of genetics at children's hospital in OC, how it was hard to get an appointment but he would refer us. At this point we are a little freaked out. What doctor tells a parent their child LOOKS like there is something to be worried about. He then goes on this long monologue about how so many kids are misdiagnosed with Autism nowadays. For the record my son has seen more then 5 doctors/therapists which none of them have ever said he "looks like something is wrong" you are not looking at a car engine, you are looking at someone's child. Have some sensitivity. After the doctors monologue I ask if he can check his ears because he's been tugging at them. He checks and says yes there's a lot of wax..the rude front desk girl happens to be in the room at the time. He says something to her in their language, she barks something back at him, then he tells me they have no time to remove his wax right now. What the heck, our usual pediatrician would take the time (5 mins) to do this. The girl had this look on her face like she had no time to be bothered. Why does she decide what the doctor has time to do or not do? Why does the doctor let this front desk girl tell him what he can and can't do. Doesn't the patient come first? It's scooping out earwax, would it have been that much of an inconvenience for them both? On to my next issue. My son had some testing done as this was around the time that there was a lot if RSV going around. We get a call that he tested positive for RSV and that I needed to take my son in for breathing treatments. Okay I can do that. I come back to the office a day later, get called into the room and wait for about half an hour. A younger doctor comes in, explains RSV the treatment plan etc. Okay fine. We keep waiting. Doctor then comes in after about 10 minutes and says there was a mistake in reading the results, he does not have RSV everythings fine. Okay that's great, but I just spent a few hours away from work because someone can't read test results properly? And no sincere apology for their mistake. AND they billed my insurance for this mistake of an appointment...AND my insurance paid out in the claim. BTW the geneticist NEVER called for an appointment. Guess doctor and her not such great friends after all. OR maybe he never sent a referral like he said he would. We'll never know because I am never going back to this office. Hey, if all these 5 star reviews are real for other people, that's great. I'm happy you found a pediatrician that you like because it's hard to find good doctors. I'm just saying, if you are looking for a pediatricians office with true experience working with children other than basic checkups, vaccines, basically things you can get done at a free clinic, DO NOT COME HERE. read more

What happened... Ulnfortunately we had to stop going to Dr Hiang due to his decision to not wear a mask durring a time within this pandemic when it was mandated by state order, and just about every medical association. When we saw him come into the exam room without a mask we had to sweep up our child from the exam table. He got the hint and came back in with a mask on held by his right hand in strapped. I'm so upset about what this doctor did to my daughters that I have to write another review. First of all, he came into the exam room without introducing himself, with the utmost unprofessional demeanor. He began with my youngest daughter and addressed her by saying "you, come here" and started asking her math questions and made her write it out on the exam table cover. I was thinking to myself what is this? Then he proceeded with the physical exam. She is nine and on the small side but he just lifted her shirt halfway without explaining to her what he was gonna do. He only exposed her belly but I'm already starting to get upset and at this point I'm watching very closely. Then same thing with my 10 year old daughter, telling her "now you, come here" and again with the math questions. She is already developing so when it was time to do the physical exam again he just lifted her shirt without any explanation or asking her if it was ok to do so and when I saw the look of disgust and fear on her face, I was livid!!! I wanted to walk out of there but I kept my cool so they can get their ear and eye exams. Finally we left and as soon as we get in the elevator my daughter starts crying. She felt traumatized and violated. I called the office right away to make sure this doctor knew what he did and I would have told him to his face but my daughter didn't want to go back there. So parents, DO NOT LET YOUR CHILDREN BE SEEN BY THIS DOCTOR. HE IS A PEDIATRICIAN FROM HELL!!! read more

We've been coming here for 6 months now and I can't imagine being happier anywhere else! Dr. Hoang and his staff are friendly, honest, patient and just genuinely nice people. Dr. Hoang is probably the easiest doctor to talk to, which is great, because this is my first baby and I always have plenty of questions. He will actually stay in the room and answer EVERY single question or concern we may have. It almost feels like we're just catching up with a family member who happens to be a doctor, that's how real and easy he is to talk to. Even when he's had a long day, he always seems to put a smile on and be fully present in our appointments. He'll give his honest opinion, and really make us feel at ease about any new-parent-worries we may have. He has young kids of his own and I believe he actually specializes in NICU babies so he really knows his stuff. Even my OBGYN said great things about his credentials. Our son was actually in the NICU for his first week so it really made us feel more comfortable having a pediatrician that has this level of experience. There's actually a lot more great things I can say about Dr. Hoang, but his staff should also be credited with bringing a great energy to the office as well. Everyone is always very gentle and patient with my 6 month old, and they always given us samples of formula when they have them! Scheduling is extremely easy and we usually don't have to wait long at all at our appts. We've even been seen for a same day appt. when we had concerns about our son's skin. They're very accommodating. I've had issues with my insurance (where my insurance is being difficult on their end) and the staff has been so patient and courteous with me, I actually feel guilty that my insurance isn't as easy. Lol The office itself is spacious, clean, and easy to get to. There's plenty of parking, but we have always found parking right in front. Overall, I highly recommend Makena Pediatrics. There's really no reason you shouldn't come here. (Now if only I could find a doctors office like this for me. I still haven't found a family doctor I like.) read more

My son was born a week before thanksgiving and needed to be seen on Black Friday for jaundice. I called a bunch of places and nobody picked up. Luckily, Dr Hoang answered! And he had us come in the following day. He always seems to make himself available for us, which I really appreciate. The following Sunday morning I called to ask about a non-urgent matter and expected to leave a message but he answered right away! I am also impressed by how friendly he and his staff are too. 6 months later... We've gotten to know the staff and the doctor quite a bit and feel very comfortable there. I've been taking my preemie to see Dr. Hoang soon after being released from the NICU and I am beyond satisfied. I knew I was going to love this dr the moment he made sure the transition went smoothly from NICU to pediatrician. He personally went above and beyond to make sure everything was set for our first visit. Staff is very knowledgable and ready to help. The dr is very helpful and willing to hear a concerned parent out. He isn't like most Drs these days that just walk in and out of the room without a care in the world. I cannot thank him enough for what he did to my sick child. My baby was showing cold symptom since Thursday and on Friday, school cold that he reached 100 so I had to pick him up. Since then, he didn't have much of fever but his appetite level decreased significantly and that worried me so much. On Monday, we called our pediatrician and they said they are fully booked and what I described them about my son worries them and advised me to go to the urgent care instead of squeezing us in. But I mean, we all know how urgent care is for kids, right? I couldn't wait several hours in a cold room with a bunch of sick people with my baby. So started searching other Pediatritian and this place popped up. When my husband called, they squeezed my baby in. We waited about 30min but that was completely understandable because they were also completely booked. On the first check-up, he told us his opinions on what my son might have but he also conducted some test. Now, that's what amazes me. Our usual pediatrician NEVER TEST ANYTHING. She tells us what it is and leave the room. She's nice and all but talks really fast and storms out. But this doctor was taking his time, making sure he listens all of our concern and tested to make sure my son is alright. AND!!! Gave us tips on where to get things in better prices than CVS which helped us a lot too. When test result came out, my son had positive reaction to rhinovirus and pneumonia which made him prescribe antibiotics right away. I think all doctors are great. They are doing God's work. But what some doctors stand out than others is that some docs really do care for their patients more than anything. And what I really appreciate for this doctor is first of all, he picked great staff. They are the ones who answer the calls and greet patients. And without going through them, you can't see any doctor. Here, the staffs are VERY nice unlike our current pediatrician. Secondly, doctor really took time on all of his patients. (We waited long enough to see that) Last but not least, he listens. Let me repeat. He listens. He listens to you(parents) and children if they are able to communicate. He doesn't joke around or anything. He sincerely cares your opinions and provide best solution from his prospect. For this reason, we will switch our pediatrician this year. Heard of this office through yelp. I called this morning and the receptionist was very nice. She checked my son's medi-cal and assisted me to schedule a same day appointment. I am looking forward to taking my son (newborn) there this afternoon. I will update after my visit Update I arrived to the clinic and the receptionists were professional and friendly. They checked my son in and we were called right at our appointment time. (We got there early to do the paperwork) The girl who took the weight and height for my son was very gentle and patient. She provided us with a copy of his measurements. She then took us to our room. The doctor walked in to the room with the nurse and began asking a few intake questions regarding his birth and then proceeded to ask about our reason for the visit. My son has a cough, sneezing and phlegm's. Doctor didn't really look at my son but he said he was hearing him. The nurse checked his heart rate. Dr. Expressed his plan was to do lab testing for virus and pertussis. He gave him breathing treatment (albuterol) and antibiotics. He also requested a CBC lab test. The lab is next door however my experience there with the staff was not as pleasant. They were not gentle when drawing blood from my son. But that's another review. The doctor did answer all our questions however as a first time parents, we may not know in medical terms what he means so we tend to need a little more explanation. We( well atleasr me) felt a little awkward asking for clarification because he does answer all your questions assuming you understand. Maybe when I'm not worried about my baby I would be ok, but when my mind is on the well being of my baby it takes me a little longer to understand. I liked that the doctor seems very hands on in his office. And had a very positive attitude. I liked that he order the different tests for my son. I recommended him to my sister in law. We are going back today for his breathing treatment. I will only update if there is a change in the experience. read more

My child was born on 5/19/2017 and he got sick, I came here on a short notice and they were very mean about seeing him. I saw the Doctor being mean to the staff while we were sitting in their waiting room. Also they're not there in the morning when they open at 9 am. I had to wait till 1 pm for them to finally open the doors. If you aren't going to be in when you open, I suggest you guys change your hours to 1. 10/10 def do NOT recommend coming here. read more

I found Makena Pediatrics on a stressed-out Google search, earlier this week. Having just got through the first few days of what I intuited to be the Flu, my daughter began running fever and feeling really unwell. From the moment I called the office, the staff were superb and caring. Dr Hoang saw my daughter the very next day and was thorough and so, so caring towards us. We just moved from NYC in the last few months, and rather annoyingly, our insurance is not compatible with California!
