Dr. Scaff has been the pediatrician for my daughter (now 18) and son (now 15) since birth. He is wonderful and puts children completely at ease. We could not have asked for a better and more caring doctor. I found the "bedside manner" post shocking and seemed to say more about that parent's unfortunate childhood experience than Dr. Scaff. I am genuinely sorry she felt that way. My kids love him and think he's so much fun. Parents are also always in the room with their children. Occasionally, wait times have been a little long in the front office, but not in recent years. read more

Dr Scaff is wonderful. My children are now 20 and 17 so only one still sees Dr Scaff. I believe my daughter was one of the first patients he saw at Huntington hospital all those years ago. For 20 years he has always given me confidence and comfort as I navigate parenting and children. He has a great sense of humor too. I trust him and if he isn't sure of something he will admit it and then advise on paths. I do honestly believe Dr Scaff does love what he does and that is everything to me. We found this office from our insurance website. We were in a time crunch and they were able to see us pretty quickly. We brought our newborn baby to Dr. Scaff for his one week and 2 week appt. he's sooooooo good with our baby! He is definitely a pro at this and we definitely will be keeping him as our pediatrician. We then had an issue with our 12 year old and they were able to see us SAME DAY! So now we chose to bring all our boys to Dr. Scaff. His team is so sweet and welcoming. I found his "bedside manner" highly inappropriate with lots of physical touch and non-consensual tickling. I understand that physical touch is required as part of a check-up visit, but as a male doctor working with girls in pre-pubescence, he has a responsibility to model and teach informed consent and respect his patients' bodily autonomy. The way he interacted with my daughter was highly inappropriate and unwelcome, not to mention unprofessional. My daughter and I were visibly uncomfortable with the interaction, but neither of us spoke up because of the inherent power dynamic and the rapid pace of the interaction, which threw us both off guard. I wish now that I had said something, but in the moment I was highly triggered thanks to my own history of childhood sexual abuse. Most unsettling was his behavior when remarking on my daughter;s developing body - his lascivious gaze, the way his eyes looked her up and down, lingering on her chest, which is showing early signs of puberty (e.g. breast buds). This kind of behavior is unacceptable for anyone, let alone a medical professional. It is these kinds of "grooming" interactions that allow this kind of abuse to continue and I hope that you will follow-up on this complaint to help build a better world where all children are off-limits to abuse. read more

I'm writing this review after several frustrating exchanges with dr. Scaff's front office. Dr. Scaff has been my son's pediatrician since birth. I had no issue tolerating the long waits and the not so pleasant attitude of his staff because I thought the doctor was good, but now I feel obligated to warn others that this office has far worse issues that could jeopardize our kids' health. A couple of years ago we moved to Orange County and it took us a while to find a new pediatrician for my now 9-year-old son. When I contacted Dr. Scaff's office requesting a copy of my son's records, I was told I have to collect it in person from the office (which is a 2-4 hour drive) or fill out a release form and have my new doctor fax it to them. I went with the second, more convenient, option. When I arrived for my son's appointment at his new doctor, I was told they faxed the form twice in 2 weeks to Dr. Scaff's office and never got a reply. I apologized and called them personally only to be told they didn't send the records because they didn't understand my son's name!! (didn't know how to read the other nurse's handwriting so they simply ignored the requests). And that was only the beginning of trouble! When the new staff reviewed the immunization records, they warned me that it's not complete and that my son is missing immunizations. I told them I'll request another copy from his school assuming Dr. Scaff's office didn't send the full record. To my horror, the school confirmed he is, in fact, missing immunization and insisted he needs to take them right away. In my mind, I was thinking there must be a mistake. Both his new school and his new doctor told me he's missing immunizations that he should've taken before entering Kindergarten. But that couldn't be accurate because I got a form with Dr. Scaff's signature at the time saying his immunizations were up to date. Also, my son went to doctor Scaff for several visits and I even took him regularly to get his flu shot there and was never told he's missing any immunizations. When I talked to Dr. Scaff's front office, they confirmed that he is missing 4 IMMUNIZATIONS!! but declined to take responsibility and said these were his 7th-year immunizations, which was around the time we moved. But guess what? When I spoke to the new doctor's office, I was told there's no such thing as 7th-year immunizations and that according to the American Pediatrics guidelines these missing ones were supposed to be taken at 5 years old not 7. They called dr. Scaff's office to clarify if there's any misunderstanding, but dr. Scaff's staff chose to lie and said they told me to come back for missing immunizations but I only returned for sick visits, which is clearly contradicted by the records. What angers me the most about that whole exchange is the office's lack of integrity. They tell me one thing, and they tell the other office another because they know very well I got the doctor's signature on my son's Kindergarten admission form saying all immunizations are up to date and they can't lie to my face about it. And now I have to take my 9-year old to get 4 shots that he should've had when he was 5. And to make things worse, one of these shots are only available for kids his age at the health department. It saddens me to write a bad review of Dr. Scaff because for so long I chose to believe that he's a good doctor. But a big part of being a good doctor is taking the responsibility of our kids and their health seriously and making sure he has a competent staff that can honor such responsibility and own up to their mistakes, which unfortunately is not the case. read more

My son was assigned to Dr. Scaff at Huntington Memorial after he was born. Our initial meeting with him was pleasant and he was very sweet with our newborn, and thorough in his initial exam. Great first impression needless to say. We continued seeing him for his ongoing check-ups, and Dr. Scaff was always friendly and happy to answer questions and offer guidance, i.e. circumcision and vaccinations. The downside is that his front desk staff isn't very organized and isn't very friendly. Such a bummer! We deal with the lack of care/organization from the front desk because we like the Doc. We recently switched insurance from PPO to Kaiser so hopefully we can continue seeing Dr. Scaff if he takes Kaiser ins. *fingers crossed* read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Worst, most unethical docs office with the most stupid front desk staff and nurses working there. Had no record of immunization being given even though they did indeed give the vaccination, then took no responsibility at all for THEIR error. Told us we should "just get another shot" just to be safe. Um NO. Also, his wife is a plastic surgeon or something so the whole waiting room area has ads preying on vulnerable new moms to get liposuction and what-not. Super gross if you ask me. read more

Don't expect any welcome smiles from his staffs, you will be lucky if any of them says hi to you or your kids. I LOVE Dr. Scaff and his staff. He is the pediatrician for both of my babies, and I have never had any issues, with professionalism, or healthcare. In fact, I have had to call Dr. Scaff on a holiday as well as at 10pm for different reasons, and received a call back immediately. This doctor put my child at risk. I was not going to review him until I found out today that he never vaccinated my child against measles. I transferred doctors earlier in the year because I was unhappy with the doctor and his staff. They often displayed an unprofessional mood and you had to walk on eggshells when you signed in. I started out loving this doctor but then he displayed signs that he was professionally burnt out. His staff seems to be responding to that. Recordkeeping has become as bad as the attitude. On reviewing my child's records against the recent measles epidemic at Disneyland, I noticed that an area on the form was blacked out. The MMR vaccination had no date. I called the front desk for confirmation but they were confused and could not give me a clear answer as to why the child had not been vaccinated. This is inexcusable. There are several areas of my child's vaccination form that are blacked out and I'm working with another doctor to make sure my child is safe and vaccinated. He was also unaware that my child had a serious iron deficiency. Had he actually read the results of the blood test so I paid for he would have known. I have gone to Disneyland several times over the year. Had I gone during the week that this problem surfaced my two year old child could have been seriously impacted. read more

I LOVE this pediatrician. He's really good with kids and answers calls at all hours. He's always on top of his game and knows what he's talking about. What I love is he's the only one in the office, so he's the only one that sees my kids. I highly recommend him! To the mom who said Dr Scaff is always in a rush, that's absolutely untrue. Dr Scaff is exceptional. He has been my son's pediatrician since birth and has been there every step of the way. He is patient and accommodating and is amazingly good with both children and adults. I could not recommend him any more highly, honestly. ***If you want to know what kind of guy Dr Scaff really is, he's about as good as it gets. My son was in the hospital with pneumonia and I was laying in the crib with him. Dr Scaff came in on a Sunday to check on my little man and we had a laugh over me fitting in the crib (I'm over 6' tall). He then told me a story about one of his babies basically dying in the hospital and about how he slept in one of the cribs for a few days so he would not have to leave. At over 6'3, this is no small feat. This man SLEPT in a crib to be there for a patient that needed him, for days. This doctor cares that much. I will NEVER take my children to anyone else. Dr Scaff was my daughters Pediatrician from birth to the age of two. My daughter had severe sleep apnea ... At our visits I would address her horrible sleep patterns and snoring, every single time he would tell me that her adenoids where large and that eventually she'd grow into them. Things were not getting any better so I decided to take matters into my own hands and booked her a sleep apnea test ... Come to find my daughter would stop breathing 6 times per hour and they explained that if this continued it would cause retardation because of the lack of oxygen to the brain. So, she had surgery and had them removed. When Dr Scaff received the report he seemed shocked. Second fail, my daughter had an eye exam at Kids Klub performed by a volunteer group.. They quickly notifiede me that there was something horribly wrong with her left eye. I made an appointment to address this issue with Scaff after his front desk/assistant performed the eye exam she concluded that she was fine (20/20) according to her exam. They filled out the form given to me by the Elks organization that had performed her eye exam at Kids Klub and I mailed it out to them. Soon after I receive a phone call by the manager of the Elks organization telling me that Scaff was wrong. So at this point once again I take matters into my hands and I take her to the vision center at the Childrens Hospital. Dr Buffen exams her and sure enough my daughter's brain was shutting down her left eye... Her vision was 20/300 !!! How does a so called Dr miss not one but two MAJOR health risks. How can he be okay with this level of care .... By the way they are a PPO office so we think we are providing our children with the best... Not the case at all. Incompetent and unworthy to be a Dr. If he is your child's Dr and you sense that something is not right do not hesitate to proceed on your own. read more

Dr. Scaff was given to me by Huntington Hospital when I hadn't yet picked a pediatrician for my son. He was actually doing rounds and ready to leave for vacation, but held off just to see me and my baby. Man, I'm sure glad we got him! He's such a down to earth guy. Sometimes you don't even realize you're talking to a doctor, it's like you're chatting with your Pal. He gives advice and recommendations that he himself has used with his own children. I couldn't imagine putting my children in the care of anyone else. He truly cares and shows genuine concern. You get the feeling right away that he wants to help you raise healthy children. Dr. Scaff was great, but I suffered 2 long years dealing with his horrible staff and ultimately they were the reason I changed pediatricians. They lost one of my sons records completely and offered NO apologies. They never looked up or acknowledged me when I walked into the office (one time I said "excuse me" and the girl at the front seat kept her head down and held up a finger for me to wait for her...are you kidding me?) I dreaded every time I had to call their office. And they were the worst till the very end when I had to call multiple times and walk them through step my step to get my other kids records faxed over to the new office. I wish Dr Scaff would find a more pleasant and competent staff to run that place, because they ended up being the reason we left. I wouldn't recommend this office to anyone. read more

Excellent pediatrician! He's AMAZING, patient, explains everything with great detail. He takes his time to warm up to my daughter and is thorough! As a first time parent, there's no better feeling than to have Dr. Scaff care for your child ( daughter is 22 months). You can tell he has a loving passion for what he does. He explained how he will call back during after-hours in less than half-hour, and if he doesn't, to please call him back. The couple of times we called, he called us back in less then 10 minutes. Fantastic with kids and parents! We love this guys... Backstory: We had our daughter at Huntington Hospital, and Pasadena. When we started out, we must admit... We didn't have a plan for a pediatrician in place. So we went with the first pediatrician that was available at the hospital. It was NOT a love connection. When we were complaining about it, in a little postmortem with our maternity nurse, she remarked that she personally wouldn't have matched us up with that particular pediatrician, so that pediatrician was of course more than qualified. We asked her which was the best pediatrician, and she of course told us that she couldn't give any medical recommendations like that. Then I asked her flat out, OK... Then tell me who you personally like working with the best. Who is the friendliest to you, and easiest to work with on the business end, in your personal experience. Her answer lead us to Dr. Scaff. And we really couldn't be happier. We really appreciate his bedside manner, which is the perfect amalgamation of relaxed and efficient pediatrician, and wealth of knowledge and secondhand experience. What we really love: He will be the first to admit if he has no personal personal experience with a situation, but he is always willing to anonymously share the experiences that she has heard of with other cases. Four instance, when it comes to cosleeping, he never recommend it, but he did share with us the experiences, anonymously of course, of some other families, that are his patients. Convenience: Parking can be somewhat of a situation, but it's not impossible. There's a great parking lot adjacent to the little plaza that his office is located in. There's also street parking, just watch out for the signage so you don't get ticketed. Lastly, part of what I love about Dr. Scaff, is that he is a single doctor practice, so he personally knows each and everyone of his patients. Also...he shares his office with his wife. I recommend Dr. Daniel Scaff wholeheartedly and enthusiastically. (My review may be a bit long, and that's because I can't recommend this pediatrician enough!...) We selected Dr. Daniel Scaff as our pediatrician while I was still pregnant. Our initial meeting was basically an interview, and both my partner and I felt 100% comfortable and confident with entrusting our son's well-being to this doctor. Our son is 6.5 years old now, and I've felt completely supported by Dr. Scaff through all the challenges of birth, infancy, and beyond. All the reviewers who describe Dr. Scaff's impeccable bedside manner -- how he always takes the time to connect with the child and transform the child's hesitation into giggles -- are spot-on. There have been many, many times that I needed to speak with Dr. Scaff urgently (i.e., not during an appointment and/or after-hours) and he has always been accessible within minutes. (NOTE: I do not abuse this privilege; I use it ONLY when it's truly urgent, like a crazy-high fever; and if the urgent situation is in the middle of the night, I do NOT call Dr. Scaff but go to the ER directly.) Scheduling appointments is easy, and if something comes up at the last minute (i.e., less than 24 hours) they are very understanding and supportive. I truly feel that Dr. Scaff and his staff are like an extension of my family unit. Some of the reviewers here (on Yelp) appear to have had less stellar experiences, and other than the wait time (which sometimes is long, but given the unpredictability of life with small kids, that is absolutely inevitable and understandable -- I can't imagine a pediatrician whose appointments are always on-track...), the only way I can reconcile those negative comments is to remember that no matter how awesome any one service provider is, there will always be a few clients/patients who walk away with a negative impression. The important thing to consider is proportions: if the negative comments are just a small drop in an ocean of rave reviews, then it's safe to conclude that they are the rare exceptions in an otherwise positive (even stellar!) situation. read more

We were saddened by the news of our son's Autism but Dr. Scaff is so knowledgeable and supportive that we felt we weren't going through this alone. Dr Scaff was a recommendation of one of my old coworkers. Didn't expect much. I was pleasantly surprised. He is caring and has good bedside manners. You can tell he loves kids and what he does. I've only had 2 interactions with him so I can't say that makes me an expert on evaluating him as a doctor. What I liked about him is that he seems to know his stuff and cares about the tiny little humans and communicates well with parents. As for other comments from others. The staff isn't particularly good or bad, but it's a small office so patients can hear what you say to each other. It's a mom and pop shop - so you can't expect a large separate waiting room. I had a pleasure to have Dr.Scaff as our pediatrician thanks to my OBGYN referral. I was looking for somebody who is smart and kid at the same time. I wanted somebody who practice medicine bit doesn't forget about the holistic treatments. And most important I was looking for somebody who would be willing take time to take care for most important person in my life- my child. Best pediatrician we have found in almost 11 years. We have been with Dr Scaff for 7 years and found him to be extremely helpful, knowledgeable, kind to my son, and reliable.
