Re finished our 100 year old floors almost 2300ft. That was 4 years ago and they still look great…read more I only give them 4 stars because they didn't remove any of their waste, like sanding pads and wood dust left the bags for me To figure out how to get rid of.

During my original call to Charlie he talked so highly of the fact that the company has been in the…read morefamily for generations, years of experience, quality, satisfied customers, etc. This was why I decided to hire him for my job. I also wanted to make sure that my location was not a problem for him since I am a distance away. He indicated that he travels all over and that would not be a problem. We agreed on a price per sq. ft and then a day to start. On day 1 of the project there was little in the way of a greeting upon arrival. It was constant complaining about how long the drive was, how much gas be probably used, how many cars he had to pass, how many tractor trailers got in his way. This occurred each morning upon his arrival. As soon as he walked into my house and looked at the floors they were instantly a problem. They were supposedly coated with something special and it would take all of this extra work and supplies in order to do the job. Without much further explaining he indicated it would be an extra $500 for it to be worth it for him to do the job. Knowing little about hardwood floors and their finishes I agreed. He proceeded to get to work and I left. By noon I checked the security cameras and noticed that his van was gone and the door was closed. Around 1-2pm in the afternoon I received a text from him: "floor definitely a bitch to sand but I made good progress today." When I returned home, the entire area was all sanded (~800sqft). Seems like this was a quick job for these "difficult floors". I brought to his attention that there was a landing that was not done (mentioned in the original call and on day 1). He said that he didn't think it needed to be done and if it was his house, he wouldn't do it (the previous finish was flaking from sun damage). Ultimately, this was completed. On the third day of the project, I needed to point out that during the sanding he has scratched the lower cabinets and my $1000+ dishwasher by apparently dragging the sander along them. When looking at the cabinets he just kept saying that he couldn't figure out what could have done that. When I showed him the dishwasher scratches he got down and started rubbing them with his hand not saying anything. He then gets up and walks into the living room examining the floors. I asked him if we could discuss the scratches, he threw his hands up in the air and said "if you're not paying me, I'm outa here." Diffusing the situation, I said we could discuss it later and said that I never indicated I was not going to pay him. At this point, I wanted to discuss a transition piece that I wanted a darker color than the rest of the floors (how it originally was). He again said that if it was his house, he would leave it. I indicated that this was something that needed to be done. He agreed and went to get some darker stain so I could approve before leaving. As he was applying the painter's tape on the border it became wrinkled and he started to pull part of it up and re-position it. When the tape didn't stick, he ripped it off the floor in a bit of rage and stomped out of the house swearing how its cheap and costs to much and its shitty tape. On the fourth day (final sand and polyurethane) he shows up and as soon as he steps into the house, he lost his mind. He had a total breakdown that the floors were still tacky and he couldn't sand them. He went on for quite some time swearing, complaining about the job and how it was costing him money. He ripped off his knee pads, opened the garage door and threw them, slammed the door and proceeded to get his sander from the kitchen and he walked out and left. All the while I didn't say a word and I didn't know if he was coming back or not. Later that afternoon he texted me apologizing for his behavior and blamed it on family problems and he wanted to negotiate a cash price (I'm assuming was his way of compensating me for the damaged dishwasher? Seems very convenient for him.) I responded that I was far from happy with the entire situation and that cash is not an option and that I will be replacing the front panel of my dishwasher. He then calls me upset asking what we are going to do about this situation and then says he doesn't know what my issue is with the dishwasher, I'm just too "picky." He says that he showed the picture of the scratches to some of his buddies, and they don't know what the big deal is. I explained that he was hired into my home and damaged my property. Something needs to be done. On the final day (still final sand and polyurethane) he shows up fairly subdued. I ask him who to make the check out to and he says to him, not the company. He then asks who my bank is. When I tell him he says "where the hell is that?" I say that its not a local bank. "Great, guess I wont get paid til Tuesday!" and stomps out the door mumbling and says "this job just keeps costing me!" I reluctantly left (thankful for my security system and cameras). As soon as I next check the cameras ONE HOUR la

I've owned my home for 23 years and this is the worst company I have ever worked with. On day one,…read moreno one showed up, claiming they called but had the wrong phone number.. even though they called me weeks ago for the appointment. The next day the owner showed up and it took him 3 DAYS to just cover the cupboards and floor with protective paper. On day 4, he couldn't get the spray apparatus to work. He eventually figured it out, and began to refinish the counters. He came back on day 5 to finish. He forgot he was supposed to do the bathroom and was going to make me wait 3 more weeks. When the counter dried after 3 days, it was patchy, rough, and uneven. I was advised not to eat food that touched it. This job was supposed to be complete in 3 days. Instead, it cost me 1 week and many hundreds of dollars. We told him to leave. We hired a different company to fix what he ruined. They said they've known surface magic for 15 years and his mistakes keep them in business. Do yourself favor and do not use Surface Magic.

We recently found out that they also refinsih countertops as well. Which is Great. As we were going to replace them with Granote. Until we found out that Surface Magic can make our existing countertops look just like Granite. Which sure saves us allot of money. So are going to have them refinish our Kitchen Countertops. We can tell from the repair they did that they do a wonderful job. So we are sure we are going to love they will do in our kitchen. Give them a try if you haven't. As they do Great Work.
