This is a cute shop on Atlantic with high end bras. I hate to do this because I think it's great to have small businesses thriving in the neighborhood. Iris and the other salesperson seemed to me knowledgeable about bras and body types, but my experience with Iris at the shop was really negative. You are basically standing half naked getting commands insensitively directed at you by Iris while she is trying to push you to buy very expensive bras which you may not like. I had been there several years prior and gotten a great fitting. When I recently returned and they looked me up in their database, rather than being welcomed back, I was scolded for leaving so much time between visits (not in a friendly way). When Iris fit me and saw I was much smaller than last time, she made some brusque remarks. The truth is, I'd lost a lot of weight because of medical treatment, and this was my first attempt to find a bra that fit my new body. It took a lot to get there, I was vulnerable, and I hoped it would be an affirming experience. I of course don't fault them for not knowing that. But I bet a lot of women going into a bra fitting feel vulnerable for whatever reason. If that's you, I'd probably go somewhere else. They are great at fitting, but the atmosphere is pushy and brusque. read more

Seconding all the reviews noting how cruel the owner of this store is. The other employees were absolutely lovely and I think they even try to be extra nice to make up for their boss. I ended up buying a bra that fits, but the straps are so large it's only going to work with collared shirts and sweaters when it's now spring time and I'll mostly be in dresses, so...great. I bought it because Iris makes you throw out the bra you came in with if you do the fitting. And if you do the fitting, you HAVE to buy something. I saw someone else comment that her rudeness is like Gordon Ramsey or Simon Cowell and that's EXACTLY what I thought after I stumbled out of there. At one point when she was snarling and insulting me I just gave an awkward laugh because I tend to do that when someone is just being abominably rude and I know I'll never see them again so I refuse to sink to their level. And she snarled "oh you're laughing?". It's been a while since I've encountered someone and walked away thinking I'd just met a monster. I also saw someone comment that she treats her white customers better and that's such a shame for an older Black woman to behave like that to fellow Black women coming to her store. It really was like she was auditioning to be the cruel judge on a reality television show, but I didn't sign up to be humiliated over buying a piece of underwear. I imagine that policy of having to buy a bra if you do a fitting is because so many people stormed out of the store after dealing with her. Also the bra fits well, but there was no fitting in the sense of measuring tape. She doesn't measure you, she just guesses. And I could have done the same guess work at Macy's. Which I will be doing tomorrow because I still need a bra that works with spring and summer clothes. Such a disappointing experience. ETA that minutes after I left this review on Google, I get a call from an unknown number. I told myself there was no way....I look the number and sure enough, it was Iris Lingerie. Imagine thinking to carry on harassing a customer in their own home. I blocked the number and immediately reported her to the BBB, as I would urge everyone who had a similar experience to do so. I'm a very quiet, cheerful person and maintained my dignity during this abusive exchange which I guess made her think I was the perfect docile victim but she mistook my personality. Iris knows what she is doing. Fittings are by sight and within a few mins they'll have lots of selections for you to try on. Left with two perfect fitting bras and matching thongs. The beautiful thing about the fitting is you can now buy that same bra in other color-ways since it works well for you. And tailoring/repair is available. A true no nonsense NY experience where the goal is to get your boobs setting right in a bra that fits. And your top/dress looks instantly better. Will be back, worth every penny. read more

I want to give Iris an extra 5 stars for amazing customer service. I recently was fitted for bras by Miss Iris and bought several. I also ordered and pre-paid for another of those bras (which was very expensive) in a color that was not in stock. After wearing the bra of the same brand that I had left the store with, I found that it was not comfortable over an extended period and called to see if I could cancel the special order. They immediately canceled without any problems and issued me a full credit, and Miss Iris asked me to come in to see what adjustments she could make to the bra I was not happy with. This is the sort of service that explains why she has so many devoted customers. read more

I went in for the first time today. My previous bras were no longer fitting and felt like putting on a harness. It was increasing my shoulder and back pain. I had had enough! Iris is a magician. She took one look at my bra and ordered me to "throw it out." It went right in the trash. I fully intended to buy a bra anyway and had read a lot of good reviews so expected to find a better fit - and fit I did! I walked out with two bras that actually fit my big boobs. Her assistant (didn't get their name) was also super helpful. I didn't realize until I started leaving the store how much BETTER my back felt and by the time I got home, it just felt like I didn't even really "feel" the bra, so much more comfortable! My husband also noticed the bra contained my boobs so much better that they even looked smaller. Look, don't go to Iris if you are expecting to be coddled. She is very direct and is a boob expert. She is committed to getting you the right bra for your breast size/body and is going to be honest about what she believes works for you, based on her experience. I'm so happy to have actual fitting bras that aren't contributing to back and neck pain! read more

Iris is a very disrespectful, rude and insensitive person. When I started to express concern that the tightness of a bra band she had me try was causing my skin to roll, she said "I don't fit back fat." People who need her services are already vulnerable. We can't just walk into a department store and buy the perfect bra. Her insensitivity to this very obvious fact was disappointing, and frankly the overall experience left me disgusted. Iris barked at the young woman working there in front of me, who was only trying to help explain Iris' policy to me - a policy which dictated that she would not fit me unless I committed to purchasing a bra, and according to Iris' "eyeballing," the only bra that would work for me cost $115. I know there are many good reviews for this place, but there are also many other places in NYC that offer the same great services and treat their patrons and employees with respect - or at the very least, like human beings. I had the best bra shopping experience here, probably only comparable to Orchard in Manhattan. The owner - the firm but charming Iris- does the fittings with her faithful assistant. The key here being that Iris and her assistant (I'm forgetting her name, but she was lovely) know with basically one look what will work for your body and size needs. That's how knowledgeable they are. You'll find yourself prompted to try on the various bra options in the changing room until they narrow down which brand, style and shape will work for your needs/desires. I like that they have stylish bras in larger sizes that are comfortable and still fit well months later. You can't beat getting a free fitting with purchase either. If you live in Brooklyn and wear bras, do yourself a favor and check this place out. What a pleasant experience. I was a little worried to bring my daughter here for a fitting because she's very sensitive and I read a couple of reviews that said Iris can be a bit insensitive We got here a little after they opened and were greeted very nicely by a young woman who said Norma & Michelle were in and they'd be right with us. As soon as you get there they have you go behind the curtain and undress. Norma came out and introduced herself with smiles. Right away she got started on looking for the right fit bra for my daughter. She didn't even measure her. She came back with a few bras. My daughter tried them on. Norma showed her the proper way to put on a bra and how to adjust it as well. She then went to the back to get more for us to choose. I told her I wanted to get one black and one nude. My daughter tried on one nude, it fit but Norma told her to try the other one. We wound up getting that one and the 2nd black one. It was a really good experience and I'd definitely go back for myself. read more

The true Bra Goddess of Brooklyn. I've relied on her for 6 years now, as Iris the only place I can go to that finds me a bra that fits not only in size but in shape. Whenever my friends from out of state visit me, I make them visit Iris and they all love it. My mom is from California and now refuses to buy bras anywhere else and always has to stop by and get some whenever she visits lol!! The bras can be a little more expensive than your average department store bra but they're easily worth it, and they'll even make adjustments for you to improve fit/correct fit that has stretched out over time. I traveled all the way from my home because I thought I would get a bra fitting and because I was told there was a "seamstress" there if you needed an adjustment. Bras were thrown at me and only one fit me except the "band" was way too tight and I was told by "Iris" that the band would stretch and I actually had to put it on backwards to turn it around to the back hooks! I was intimidated into buying the bra and rushed! I would never go back here again because this is not the type of bra fitting store that I used to go into when more of them used to exist! This was the "worst experience" and of course I cannot return this bra and the one that was ordered which was the same one in a different color! At least if the seamstress was there they could have added something onto the band so that I could put the bra on "normally" instead of twisting it around. Ridiculous! Find a reputable store to go to where they actually "help" you and do a "bra fitting" and don't force you to buy something that doesn't fit you! read more

Miss Iris is definitely the bra whisperer. I walked into the shop asking for a fitting and she took one look at me with my ill fitting sports bra and knew what bras to give me and the right size. I had previously had bad experience or thought I had bad experience with some bomb ass lace bras but it was probably just reaching its expiration point since I had had these bras for 3 yrs. Anywho the experience was quick and enjoyable as she began to pull out different style of bras that fit with what I was looking for. I'm stoked and feel like a woman again! Iris is the lingerie Fairy Godmother I never knew I always wanted. I read the bad reviews - I can see how she rubs people the wrong way. She has a very gruff strong personality - but honestly a older black businesswoman in this neighborhood...you need to be tough. Plus I do think she's cares and is passionate about her craft. Stepping in this store, you def need to have a sense of humor and be open to an experience. She showed me options I would have never chosen for myself. I'm not sure how there are any 5 star reviews. Iris's overconfident style leaves no room for your preferences. She talks at you, yells at her staff, and doesn't listen. She persistently scolded me for my hanes underpants, which might have been funny to hear once, but became degrading as she kept telling me to "throw them all away". Listen ladies, my Hanes are comfortable and functional. I wore them since I knew I'd be trying on other stuff. I did not like the tongue clicking judgement on about my underpants choices. I came in for lingerie, and got what I came for. I'm satisfied with my purchase, but not with the experience. I went because it's was close to home, and I didn't have a lot of time for shopping. I was clear what my shopping goals were, ("no I'm not looking for a bra") but she insisted I try on a 'real' bra (I came in wearing a Chantelle). What she gave me was uncomfortable and did not fit well, and she acted disgusted that I was quite happy with my bra and was here for lingerie. If I had not read the other reviews about her rudeness and pushiness, I would not have been prepared for the onslaught. However, I worked primarily with the other sales people and got what I needed. Iris is literally amazing. Seriously. I'm in shock a little bit right now. She's a boob whisper I'm certain. I walked in and really before I even said hello she had me take off my bra, looked at me and came back with a bra and it fit literally perfectly! Then again she told me take it off she went and got another bra. Again it FIT PERFECTLY!! I can't tell you how revolutionary this was for me. I'm an 18 yr old and I've always had a small band but very large cupped breasts and I've just kind of given up with never being able to find a bra that could fit me correctly. I had even recently had a consultation with a surgeon for a breast reduction because of the pain my large breasts were having on my back, shoulders, neck, posture and just overall self confidence. We were in and out with Iris in maybe 20 minutes and for the first time in my entire life of wearing bras I got a bra that fit correctly and was the correct size that literally just makes my boobs look good with none of the negatives of bad posture or back pain (the bras Iris gave me were size 32J, for some context!) Iris did have me throw out the bra I was wearing which was fair because it was awful, but just be prepared for that! Of course be prepared to spend some coin on bras there, but when I went to get "sized" at Bloomingdales I definitely spent more on bras and there were pretty bad and were the wrong size. A great and quick experience. She took me as a walk in but I would advise you make an appointment because Iris and the team are very busy. It is a nice clean comfortable shop with good lighting. Iris was able to look at me and tell the other woman what bra to grab for me. To make this more impressive I was wearing a sports bra. This is old school expertise! Iris is no nonsense but it helps the experience move quickly and she makes sure her helper balances that out by being gentle and checking in on my comfort. Iris gave some helpful tips about putting your bra on correctly and standing in a way that enhances my figure. Once we figured out my size then we moved on to what type of style of bra I was looking for. I was happy to not walk out with an old lady bra which was something I was nervous about going to a lingerie store and not more popular chains. Keep in mind you have to buy a bra to be fitted so plan for that cost. DO NOT SHOP HERE .Went here for a fitting and a new bra and it was a waste of time. The owner was not only rude to us, her customers but also her employees. My mother asked her how much it would cost to get a fitting. The owner then said "you couldn't afford me" And then starts throwing out random numbers like "$200" and saying that she could charge that and we couldn't afford her. And then she says "if everyone walked in here and asked for a free fitting (WHICH WE DID NOT) would I still be in business?" My mom says "I know, I was just wondering how much it would be for the fitting." In this store, a "fitting" comes with the purchase of a bra. I say fitting because she guessed. SHE NEVER picked up a measuring tape to measure. It felt like she was throwing things to wall to see what would stick. And she wouldn't tell me my bra size. The kicker is, the same bra that you try on is the same bra you buy. Meaning that if someone else before you has tried on the bra and decided not to buy it, they would still sell it to other people. This became apparent when we were checking out and my mom assumed that they were going to exchange the bra and give us a new one. They didn't. The bra had a stain on it, and my mom asked if she could change it. The worker takes the bra into the other room, wipes it off and brings it back. We could tell by the wet spot. None of this feels like it's worth the "$200" fitting she claims we couldn't afford. I didn't even get fitted. We also noticed that she treats people of color (specifically black people) differently. My cousin recommended we visit Iris and we had the best time! We went in today without an appointment (I believe they are taking a limited number of walk-ins) and were helped instantly. The person who greeted us was lovely and knowledgeable. Rather than going in for a bra fitting, their protocol is that every bra purchase comes with a complimentary bra fitting. So it is the expectation that you purchase a bra after your fitting. Not a problem for us! The shop and fitting rooms were clean and neat. Iris and Norma were so helpful!!! Iris eyeballed me and immediately knew the first size she wanted me to try and the other shop attendants were fast and super helpful. Norma was wonderful and patient as she explained the different size indicators I should be noticing. I did not feel any pressure about purchasing or trying on bras. When I told them I wasn't into a certain style, no argument was given and they quickly moved on. The entire process was collaborative, with the attendants discussing the merits of different bras and recommending different options. I felt so comfortable and knew I was in good hands. Everyone I came in contact with was knowledge, friendly, and masked. The selection was a bit limited because of supply chain issues but I was still able to walk out with two bras that I loved! My cousin had a separate fitting and loved her experience as well. Will definitely be coming back! read more

In addition to buying bras here, you can bring back older stretched-out bras (only ones you've bought here), and she will tailor them so they look and fit almost like new again. Iris is the only lingerie shop I would go to in NYC. I am a small-sized minority female with small breasts, of an age where whatever curves I had has now sagged into folds. It has been very difficult to find the right size bra in the U.S., and I used to buy them overseas when I traveled for business - Asia - where there are more women of my size in the same predicament. Now that I travel less, I needed a shop in the neighborhood which could fit me. Recommended to me by another Brooklynite, I went to Iris not knowing what to expect. I entered through the doorway of another shop (Kimera), went downstairs, and voilà, the most wonderful no-nonsense woman who quickly got my size and brought me five bras which all fit! This has never ever happened in any of the other shops in the U.S. Granted, the bras were not cheap. But, hey, would you rather have two great bras that fit perfectly, or multiple less-expensive bras that are uncomfortable? Iris will also do alterations. And, as long as I'm careful about washing them delicately, these bras will hopefully last a long time. I saw that some reviewers weren't happy with the attitude of the shopkeeper...I had no issues with her attitude. She was efficient and she delivered. read more

If you are a woman with breasts, you should go to Iris for a fitting. Why? Because you are probably wearing the wrong bra size, you are probably buying cheap, poorly made, one-size-fits-all bras, and you probably feel uncomfortable and spend hours every day adjusting yourself. I am a 25 year old woman, size 4, about 5'5". I have large breasts. In chain stores like Victoria's Secret, or even high-end department stores like Nordstrom, as cup sizes go up, so does the around-the-body length. So when I felt like DDs weren't fitting anymore, it seemed logical to me that I needed to go up from a 34 to a 36, or even a 38. Because if the cup sizes only go up to DD, then I MUST be a DD! WRONG. I'm a 32 F. How do I know this? Well, I walked into Iris yesterday and was welcomed into a safe space by amazing women who held my hand along a jouney of size self-discovery. I worked with Norma, who took one look at me before stating my size. Just by looking at me. I was skeptical, but she brought me several to try on, and I've never felt more supported or good about myself in a bra. She really took the time to show me a whole slew of bras, explaining what makes a great bra, and helping me understand my body and come to accept it in a new way. You will have to be comfortable topless in front of these women in order to have a successful experience here - but why shouldn't you be? Breasts are for feeding children. Nothing weird or inherently inappropriate about them. And everyone's look different. Everyone has different nipples. Everyone's hang differently. Iris and her incredible staff, like Norma, are well aware of this - they aren't weirded out by your body, so you won't be, either. Go. Get fitted. Feel good about yourself. Yes, the bras are expensive - but you only need two or three great bras (how many do you really wear, anyway?) And the fitting is free when you buy a bra. They also will alter the strap length for $2/bra. And you will probably need that, and you probably didn't know that. Norma also recommended an incredible sports bra by a company from Belgium called Anita, which I bought. Sorry, but Lu Lu Lemon only goes up to a DD - making them just another bogus chain store pushing the idea that either women have 15-year-old-girl bodies, or they are abnormal. THANK YOU IRIS and NORMA! Could not be happier about my experience or more confident about my body, and you can't put a price on that. read more

Tucked away in Brooklyn, I would never have come across Iris and her little shop. My travel buddy, however, had heard of it and decided she wanted to check it out. She also insisted that I have a fitting as well. And in the end I'm so glad I did. We arrived during the afternoon on our way back from Manhattan to the airport. Iris and her assistant were busy with some other clients, so we waited a little bit, and then we were seen as soon as possible. Iris has some amazing super-power when it comes to getting you into the right sized apparel. She didn't even have to measure, she just knew by looking. I was amazed by her ability to get the right fitting bra for me, and I was so happy with the experience. She is a non-nonsense, straight talking lady, super helpful, and honestly cares about what she's doing. It was such a great experience. The prices are also reasonable. Iris Lingerie is what you need if...well, if you have breasts. Especially if you're larger than a C cup. Trust me...some things are worth paying for. Think of how many hours a day you wear these things...go see Ms. Iris. A perfect fit and no frustration. You won't be sorry. I wear a larger cup size and a smaller band; I'd bought bras online over the past decade and never gotten quite the right fit: pinching or gapping or spill, and not cheap even so. Frustrating! With bra sizing kind of subjective by manufacturer and style, it's hard to know what size to order. Last month, with all my old bras wearing out, I tried one of the online places that does "remote bra fitting". Using their guidance to ensure I was getting the right size, I ended up placing three different orders for large batches of bras...not one of which fit. Frustrating! So I went looking for an in-person shopping experience, and luckily I stumbled on an article about Iris Lingerie in the New York Times. I called and Ms. Iris accommodated me with a fitting appointment for the following day. When arrived, she got down to business without preamble: sized me up without any need to measure, and had me trying on right-sized bras within 2 min. I found myself in the amazing position of having to choose between eight different styles that were a perfect fit. I walked out of Iris Lingerie in less than 20 min with four new bras - pretty, practical, amazingly comfortable, and giving the firm support I prefer without being in any way "industrial". And the cost? My bras have never been cheap. The bill was comparable to what I'd been prepared to pay at the online retailer...and I got personalized service and a guaranteed perfect fit. Sure, maybe I could have saved a few dollars by ordering online...but Ms. Iris' expertise and commitment to fitting her clients perfectly are worth paying for. If you are large busted then you need to go see Iris. I know someone called her the bra whisperer and they are exactly right. I walked in on a whim and Iris immediately helped me find the right size and brought me three of the most comfortable bras I've ever worn. It turns out I don't hate the underwire--I hate it when it the bra doesn't fit properly. Anyway, if you hate your bra and immediately strip it off the moment you get in the door, go see Iris. If you take a few moments and read through the 1 star reviews you will likely start to notice a pattern in the treatment of customers, specifically by the store owner Iris. She uses many high pressure sales tactics including degrading comments and bullying customers into making purchases. It is has been about 5 months since my experience there and the traumatizing experience has stayed with me so I felt compelled to write a review. I don't want to re-live the experience so suffice it to say that the details of my experience mirror the poor treatment of customers by the owner Iris. I'm writing this review so if you do choose to patronize this store you know what you are potentially going to encounter. So you can be better prepared so you don't end up with a $200 poorly fitting bra and leave feeling belittled, berated and like less of a human. 1. FYI: Bras are NOT returnable except for store credit only. 2. If you do try to do this, be prepared for an argument, one that you can only win by talking more and talking more loudly. Imagine having an argument with Trump... 3. Do NOT let Iris pressure you to wear the bra out of the store and cut the tags off the bra 4. There is literally nothing special about the bras here, they are all the brands you can find in store or online. Go to Nordstom and have a fitting for free and no pressure to buy. 5. My experience at Iris Lingerie wasn't all that great. For the amount of money you're spending and for just being a human alone, one would think to walk into a door and exchange "hello's /how are you's/good afternoons." The sales person was cordial but more interested in serving the high class mother-daughter duo getting ready to vacation somewhere. I understand and wait my turn patiently without complaint and with a smile on my face. Then comes boss lady and asks if I've been there before and to go to the fitting room in the back, remove my coat and t-shirt to do a bra fitting. Initially, I was the only person back there so I hoped that she would listen to my concerns and help me find a great bra. I was already wearing her favorite Chantelle brand bra and she seemed surprised. She immediately threw three other options at me without asking what style or shape I was looking for. She barely even looked at me. She kept telling me that these are the best bras on the market and what i'm getting would be the newest and most fashionable. Okay great, I appreciate that but I'm looking for something basic like a full coverage bra. She said that the ones she gave me were the best for my size.Then another customer came in. She may have been a frequent shopper at Iris Lingerie because she was getting a great deal of attention and lots of conversation and attention to detail. After much frustration, I purchased a bra that I liked, but wasn't looking for and concealing petals. I'll stick to buying my Chantelle bras online or looking for another distributor who cares more about their customers. read more

I need to qualify my review by saying I did not stay. I did not have the fitting because I found the woman who spoke to me to be so off-putting. There was no one in the store when I came in and then three women came from the back room. I came in on a whim because I was in the neighborhood and WAS looking to buy a bra and wanted a fitting. The lead woman treated me as if I were going to rob her and told me coldly I could only get a fitting if I made a purchase. (Like does she have people who just want to undress and have her touch their breasts for the hell of it? I'll continue my search. read more

If you are looking to be berated, insulted and disrespected than this is the shop for you! It is a shame because they do have an excellent selection of lingerie. Over the course of several years, I have tried to frequent this establishment, however time and again the proprietor's demeanor and surly attitude gets in the way of having a positive shopping experience. read more
