I had a horrible experience at the E 40th St. location. First, I had to wait more than half an hour from the start time of the scheduled appointment before I could get someone to check my insurance card. Second, the machine to pay via credit card was not working, which caused further delays. But there was no prior notification when the booking was made that the practice only accepted cash for co-pays. The staff was unprofessional and unapologetic. People have no respect for time. Third, they randomly schedule appointments for follow-ups without consulting the patientand charges fees for no-shows, even if the patient has not requested a follow-up. This is the perfect example of poor professional conduct. I will never go back to this provider and recommend others to find a more suitable OB-GYN. read more

I just left her office, and I am overwhelmed by finding an amazingly experienced doctor with the most human, gentle, and caring bedside manner. Yes, I had to wait a bit but it is normal and expected as quality doctors take their time with the patients. Dr. Kakkosian took her time to go over the details of my medical history and concerns. I'm really glad a service like this is available in the city. Being from outside of the U.S it really leaves you disappointed going to an OBGYN without having an extensive range of check ups. Scheduled an appointment for a minor infection. I was told by ZocDoc and the doctor's office that my insurance was accepted, but this was a lie. What should have been a simple exam turned into an ultrasound, pap smear, urinalysis, and extensive bloodwork. The nature of the tests and the price were never discussed with me. After retiring the iPad with my information she said "Hold on while I check your insurance". Great, no problem. 30 minutes pass. Then, she tells me, it will be $450, you're out of network. This is incorrect, folks. I am covered for the well check at this establishment. Obviously I refuse to be seen. Upon leaving, an hour later (!!) someone calls and ask if I'm coming in. I tell them the story and they say, no, you're covered, would you like to come in? Of course not! While I was waiting an hour, the following things happen. A repeat customer was made to fill out the sign up paperwork for no reason. Another client went to call her insurance about a $500 procedure the receptionist quoted her on and the the receptionist said to me "I don't know why she wouldn't spend the money for her own health!" K & K Gynocology is the absolute worst! Their "office policies" are a bulls**t way of making money. For example, they must see you every 6 months regardless of a clean bill of health if you want them to continue filling birth control prescriptions and you must come in to their office to discuss all test results, including PAP when everything is normal, just so they can charge you for the visit. The office staff is totally unhelpful. You cannot get either of the doctors on the phone even when they say they are going to call you back. These are the worst doctors I have ever encountered. I even had to chase down my own test results. I would not recommend them to anyone ever. read more

Worst experience ever, I booked my appointment thru Zocdoc, for being visited by doctor kakossian. I got there 15 minute prior to my appointment, waiting there for 30 minutes to fill out some forms, then they said I have to pay three separate 10$ as co-payment; for my visit, ultrasound and possible blood work which does not make sense as based on my insurance I only need to pay 10$ for my visit co-payment and any other works are covered 100%,( seems they were trying to over charge my insurance. Scam!!!) so I said that to the receptionist, she was playing by words and saying some nonsense things and logics. When I finally was called by the exam room, I realized that I'm not being visited by the doctor but by a PA so I had to cancel my visit. The fact that staff did not inform me earlier about being visited by PA is another red flag of not trusting this office and the doctor, besides trying to over charge insurance companies( as I mentioned). I selected to come to this place because they have weekend hours. Little did I know that it's their office policy not to release results over the phone, via email or even sending by snail mail. They claim that it's HIPPA policy. Which is not true. My primary care physician gives me my results over the phone. Many doctors in the year 2020 have medical portals where the patient can sign on and view results. NOT this practice. I came here for my gynecology exam. I followed up on my results after 3 weeks, because I had not heard back from anyone. The girl at the front desk said when I called, "the doctor wants to see you." I replied back, "so when were you going to call me?" She's like oh you are on a list ( almost a month later still no updates from them). So I came in to find out that my results showed elevated potassium and to get retested. Mind you, no one mentioned that I will be re-tested and that I should not eat prior to my visit. Again, no call from the doctor. Followed up 10 days later. Turns out now that my potassium is within range, but my cholesterol is slightly up with a note from the doc to decrease red meat and increase exercise. I don't eat red meat and workout 5 times a week! I said hello lady, wouldn't this be due to me having eggs for breakfast because no one told me NOT to eat before coming in? They gave me no information. Another thing, it is close to impossible to get the doctor on the phone in this place. Stay away! Will not be coming back here next year. Do no recommend. read more

My visit was great except I was given some "just checking" 10 second ultra-sound after my IUD removal without any warning/discussion. After that a bill of $300 (with health insurance cover already) was issued. I lucked out because now that I am on here, I saw people with much more significant bills. DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR!!! My whole experience was a total nightmare from the moment I arrived to two months later when I received my bills. While I was waiting, I witnessed the receptionist trying to get a young woman to pay $1,000 out-of-pocket right then and there for an IUD instead of going through her insurance and most likely not having to pay a dime herself (like in my experience). Not only was I lied to about them being In-Network with my insurance (UHC) by the extremely rude lady at the front desk but I was also done an excessive and unnecessary amount of blood tests that I ended up being billed over $8,000 for which they expect me to pay out-of-pocket. They lied and billed me for two urine tests (I never gave a urine sample!!!!), and was pushed into an ultrasound after expressing mild pain in my stomach which I was never told how expensive it would be. I have never felt more deceived and taken advantage of by a doctor's office and felt like I had to warn others about my experience. Please do not book an appointment at this office. read more

I don't understand their front desk system, today Tuesday/ July 26 I called to an office located on Brighton and I was treated just so disgusting. I called about changing my birth control prescriptions but didn't know the name. And instead of helping me and making me feel cared for and helped, I was treated like I'm just a next patient calling about "other problems" and I'm nothing special, just another issue. I wish I had read these Yelp reviews before going to K&K. When I got to the doctor's office, I filled out my insurance information and a form on an iPad. My appointment was at 12:30. I arrived at 12:10. I was not seen by the nurse until 2pm. There was a woman next to me who was there for an emergency, and she was kept waiting for two hours, as well. When I saw the nurse, the woman at the front desk came back to tell me that actually I *did* have to pay because of my deductible. They charged me $200 for my visit, telling me that my plan had a deductible - which it DOES NOT. I had confirmed with my insurance before going to the doctor that my visit would be fully covered, no co-pay, no deductible. She also informed me that if I wanted to do the sonogram, it would be $300. I said I would not do the sonogram. The doctor saw me for 60 seconds. That was it. No questions, nothing, she came in, did the pap smear and left. After this visit, I was suspicious about why I was asked to pay $200. I called my insurance and they told me they hadn't received the claim yet, but if it was a routine visit, it should've been 100% covered. I called the doctor's office, and explained this. The woman on the phone said "Okay, we'll issue you a refund" and hung up without further questions. I called again and was directed to a billing department. When I reached the billing department, no one was available. I was told to call back but that my refund was being processed. After a week, with no refund in sight, I called again. No one got back to me. This went on for three days before someone finally got on the phone with me - Lana. Lana informed me that they could not actually issue a refund, because they had not yet filed the claim for my visit. I asked why, given that it had been well over a week since my visit. Lana said it was "office policy," and was incredibly rude and dismissive. I told her that I would be following up with my insurance, but that I expected a refund. Two days later, I got a bill in the mail from Bio Reference Labs. I looked at the bill and I was charged for things that the doctor's office told me I would not be having done that day. My insurance covered some of it, but I was still expected to pay a certain amount out of pocket - for lab work that I never had done!! I'm still working out with my insurance what that $200 charge was for, since that was absolutely not in the claim the doctor's office filed with my insurance company. Please, please, save yourselves the hassle and headache and frustration, and go to a different doctor. This practice is an absolute scam. I've never left a Yelp review for anything in my life, but I cannot in good conscience allow other women seeking quality care to subject themselves to this office. read more

They intimidate for payment services but if you pursue legal avenues they drop the billing. The receptionist asked me to pay $300 prior to the appointment. When I wanted to cancel because I wasn't aware of this payment - she said I'd have to pay this at any clinic. She also said that they don't file the claim and that I'd have to file the claim to the insurance company (again, liars). This doctor sent a claim for $1,875 to my insurance company. Now my insurance company is not paying because she's 'out of network'. And that $300 I paid at the clinic? There's no record of that payment in the claim she's made. And the doctor never followed up on my test results and neither did they send the prescription to my pharmacy. Worst experience ever. I had really high hopes. First of all, when I initially made my appointment the person I spoke with scheduled me in the wrong office. Fine, we corrected that not too long thereafter after someone else caught the mistake. I went to Dr. Kakossian's office during my lunch break. They were training new staff and the girl kept making mistakes inputting my information and they had to ask me everything and input it all twice. This took a lot of time- I was not thrilled but I tried to be patient. Then the doctor was the most condescending patronizing narcissistic person I've ever dealt with in a medical capacity. She talked to me like I was a stupid uninformed child. She tried to basically force me to get a form of birth control that I absolutely did not want and was being pushy and rude about it. I had an appointment scheduled through ZocDoc for this location. Per ZocDoc, the doctor accepts my insurance. A very rude woman called to confirm my appointment, telling me that my appointment would cost me a minimum payment of $300. When I explained that my insurance waives the annual women's check up, she began arguing with me. It was almost as if she wanted me to cancel. Finding quality women's care is difficult enough. I scheduled an appointment with this doctor on ZocDoc, and they emailed me the day prior to the appointment confirming the date, time, and location of the appointment, to which I replied with a confirmation. Then when I actually got to the Midtown office, I was informed that the staff had tried to call me because the doctor was no longer available for the slot I had booked. I had indeed received a phone call earlier that day but no voicemail, and as I was at work I don't return calls from unknown numbers unless they leave a voicemail. I showed the staff member my confirmation email and her response was to simply say "well we tried to call you." I've been coming to Dr. Irene Kakossians office for about 5 years now and I wouldn't go anywhere else. I've been seen by every doctor in the office. Everyone who works in the office is super helpful including the nurses! I have a really tough schedule and they always find time to see me. I either see Dr. Irene or Dr. Dina and both doctors are are pleasant and knowledgeable. Any issue I ever had medically both doctors always resolved them. I recommend seeing Dr. Irene she is by far a great doctor and knows exactly what she's doing. Before I started coming to this office I went to a number of GYN's and I have to say every doctor in this office makes me feel beyond comfortable. All 4 doctors are great and I highly recommend trying this office. read more

Beware!! They will demand you pay for visit or tests by credit card, even when your insurance actually covers it! The staff says the insurance policy wants it that way. I called my insurance twice while I was waiting to see the MD. The office is lying. They refused to talk to the insurance. I was yelled at in front of other patients and family members that I just don't want to pay my bill. DO Not make same mistake. You only pay copay in the office. Anything else you pay after the insurance adjustments. I was pursuaded by them to have anesthesia for two procedures. They did not inform me that the anesthesiologist they bring to their office does not take BCBS! I had to pay him over $800. It's not often that insurance is on your side, at their office it's sadly true. Update : the billing person called me today. I had an appointment scheduled and received confirmation emails two days and the day before the appointment and after driving an hour into the city to make the appointment, I got into the office and the receptionist told me the doctor wasn't there.... I never received a call that they were cancelling and never received an email that she was cancelling and the receptionist could not care less. I initially booked the appointment through a well-known website where it stated Dr. Kakossian was in-network, I did not confirm that was the case, so my fault and a mistake I will never make again. I had my appointment and was told I needed to have an emergency procedure done asap. I booked the surgery and the night before (only a few days after my initial appointment) I found out they were out of network! I nearly had a panic attack. They asked for money up front and since I have HSA, I paid without thinking twice. The front desk girl assured me many times they would only charge me as much as my insurance would pay and not a penny more. So far that's true but I'm still nervous based on other reviews. I had the procedure done, everything went smoothly, then I was told it was done by her husband...which set off alarm bells. I then went in for 3 or 4 follow-ups, each time she would be surprised by discovering the problem for which she had previously diagnosed me with on my initial visit and the reason why I had emergency surgery!! I don't expect a Dr. to memorize my chart but to glance at it before you start the examination would be professional. She even went so far as to ask me why or how I knew that...I told her your husband performed surgery on me, please check your file. She set appointments for every few months which is fine but each time took blood and pap-smears which seemed unnecessary. She totally took advantage of my vulnerable state since this diagnosis was new and scary. It seemed her priorities were to push a certain kind of birth control, try to get me to freeze my eggs and perform more procedures without explaining why. Now I can't trust anything that's happened and need a second opinion. You're supposed to be able to trust Doctors with your health but feel I've been taken advantage of. read more

My daughter went for a simple treatment and when I received the bill (I am the help care provider), there were some tests that were not done but billed. One of the worst patient experiences I've had: 1. I got there expecting to see Dr. Kakossian and the front desk didn't inform me that her husband will actually see me 2. The office didn't send through my prescriptions to my pharmacy right away (it was a Friday) and the Dr. was not available during the weekend (despite 3 calls to the emergency phone line where I was also treated extremely rudely). I was leaving the country at the end of the weekend so to get my prescriptions I had to make a doctor's appointment at One Medical on Saturday to get a new prescription for my medications. 3. They never followed up with me to inform me of my test results, I had to call them to ask and was told that they won't share them with me because they were normal - they would only share with another doctor who requests them. That is, by the way, a violation of HIPAA and I will be reporting that to the authorities. read more

Dr. Kakossian is absolutely running an insurance scheme. I went in to get a birth control shot and she hardcore pressured me into getting a pap smear even though I had already gotten a clean one 6 months earlier. She said that it's best practice for women to get a pap smear every 6 months, which I said sounded not right because every doctor I've ever been to has said every 3 years. She said that that was ridiculous and she didn't know where I had heard that. Try looking at the guidelines from the American Gynecological and Obstetrical society? NOWHERE does any expert say that you should get a pap smear every 6 months, that's ridiculous. I ended up getting the pap because I just wanted to get the shot and get out of there but now I feel seriously physically violated and weirded out that she lied to me. She also insisted that I get a blood test before getting the shot (no other office has ever required this) and then her office called a month later with the results and tried to get me to come in for another blood test. I have been a patient of Dr. Irena Kakossian for many years and I can attest to the fact that she is a brilliant and gifted Doctor. Years ago, I had a mysterious bleeding issue which 3 doctors had failed to correctly diagnose despite sending me on multiple unnecessary testings including several sonograms. It took one visit to Dr. Kakossian to properly address the issue which required surgery. This was successfully performed in her office. Consequently, even though I now live in Florida, I still come back to New York for consultations. I give her 5 stars! read more
