I never write yelp reviews but felt I had to for these guys. I had previously contracted with a different moving company to unload my Uhaul but they were a no show which left me downtown with a truck full of stuff and no way of moving it. I called all the moving companies in the area to see if anyone could help me out last minute - this was late afternoon on a Friday. When I connected with Iowa Moving 1 they were immediately helpful and accommodating. The home office listened to my needs and told me to give them a couple of minutes and they would try to work something out for me. They called back in about 5 minutes and let me know they could have a crew add an additional job and help me. I was more than thankful and accepted. The guys showed up right on time and were communicative through the process sending updates on the estimated time of arrival. When they got here the guys were extremely professional and did great work. My place is up some steep stairs but the movers got right to work and we had everything unloaded within the hour. When all was said and done I felt very satisfied and thankful I went with Iowa Moving! Rates were very reasonable and great service. I think they are fairly new/small but I honestly could not have asked for better service. I definitely recommend giving them a shot! I plan to use them for my next move. read more

I requested two movers and was told they had a three hour minimum. I wasn't all that happy about that since it's just me but the quote they gave me was still significantly less than other movers I contacted. They said they'd be there between noon and 3, and would call when they were on their way. Eric, the owner, called the day before to confirm and to let me know that it looked like their arrival time would be closer to the middle or end of that window, which was helpful so I could plan my day. The movers, Dalton and KJ, called when they were on their way and showed up just before 3. It was rather amusing from the start, KJ took one look at the things I had already started loading on the UHaul and jumped in to rearrange them. What can I say, I'm not a professional mover. LoL I'm glad they are though. They work well together, they were friendly, funny and personable, but they were also fast and efficient. They managed to take apart and put back together my odd couch, handled everything with care, and even put up with my stressed out dogs. They also listened to the fact that I really wanted to get the UHaul back by 5:30 and made sure they were done on time, in spite of the rather late start. I have had a lot of really bad moving experiences. I have had people put furniture together wrong, break things, inflate their prices last minute after getting my stuff in their truck (one company doubled it), steal things, and lose my belongings. This was absolutely not the case with Iowa Moving 1. They are incredibly awesome. =) Iowa Moving 1 was fantastic, shockingly so. I had complications with my truck that caused me to be a few hours past our appointment time. Instead of sitting around and accruing time, which is something I have experienced before, they rearranged their schedules to accommodate me. Everyone ended up very happy! I found them to be extremely careful, professional, honest, and downright fun to work with that day. They moved me like they were moving their own stuff! I have never been so pleased in a move and am hiring them to move me into my new place later this month. I probably will hire them on my move after that (Yay graduation!). This company is beyond amazing! It starts with the person who takes your call. Patrick was the most helpful and patient person I have probably ever dealt with. Their prices are very reasonable! It was so perfect during our scheduling, that we were sure there must be a catch somewhere. But the day of the move, the movers were on time and extremely professional and courteous. Not only that, they were "clean" and well-mannered and extremely knowledgeable in which items to put in the trailer first and how to best pick up and maneuver them to get outside. We were moving some items out of the house to transport to Florida and also moving things around in the house. My Aunt wanted to put a bed skirt on the bed that was moved downstairs before the top mattress was put on. I started on one side and before I knew it, the 2 movers were helping us perfectly position the bed skirt. I was beyond impressed. I wished that I lived in Iowa as I would not only use them anytime I needed movers, but I would suggest them to EVERYONE I know!! read more

They are A-Rated on the BBB and angies list. Do over 1,300 moves every year. All employees must pass background checks. Best of all it is a LOCAL company. The best part about this company is how they price their moves out. No hidden fees and all the charges are right infront of your face. It really just comes down to timing. They have a tavel fee and a labor rate. Simple enough right. Other moving companies keep you on the clock for thier travel time. Well guess what, with IowaMoving1 you dont have to worry about paying $80 for your movers to eat breakfast on your dime because they dont start charging til they reach your door! Best thing yet is that your items will be in your possesion the entire time. So no more worrying about your items being held hostage unless if you pay 3 times the original quote!! read more

I can not say enough good things about this company. From the open communication to the highest level of service this moving company raises the bar for all other competitors. Our moving company that we hired (Economical Movers) did not show up. They would not answer my calls or texts or emails on the morning of the move. I called Iowa Moving 1 at the very last notice and within a few hours they had a two man crew at the location to help. From the moment the guys got out of the vehicle they worked efficiently. We were making a short, 30 mile move. Hired a 3-man team for 4 hours to load and unload our U-Haul. The move team showed up right on time, ready to go. One of the team had called in sick, but the other two members stepped up big time. They had my 26' U-Haul loaded in an hour and a half. After the nearly 40 minute drive to our new home, they were able to have us completely unloaded and done right at the 4 hour mark. Plus, it was about 90 degrees that day. They were fast, friendly and super helpful! This was by far one of the smoothest, if not the smoothest move I have ever done! This is my second time using Iowa Moving 1 and they have been great both times. I highly recommend them. read more

We hired Iowa Moving 1 to move my parents into their downsized home. They were quick and efficient, took time with heavier/harder to deal with pieces, made sure things were strapped down, wrapped as needed. The following day when they came back to move them into their new home was even faster, again taking time to help ensure boxes went into the correct rooms, furniture was set up and placed in the correct locations. Again with the day care as they day before. I would highly recommend this company. The cost was considerably less than other companies that were same day service. If I had to move anyone again, I would be sure to call them back. read more

Our family loves Iowa Moving 1!! They are AMAZING!!!! They have handled over 6 moves for various members of our family and Eric and his team always do a great job. They are on time, efficient, know what they are doing and are careful not to damage the furniture or the walls. This last move we really challenged them with a new 9' buffet that had to get down a flight of stairs that had a landing and a turn!! I was moving my mother from a 3 bedroom house in Southern Iowa to a 2 bedroom apartment in the Des Moines area. It was a stressful time and I was in a hurry. Every part of my experience with Iowa Moving 1 was good. Starting with my original phone call of inquiry, through signing the contracts when everything was moved. Emails were clear and helpful. The website guided me in renting the correct truck. The movers were courteous and quick. They were prompt in responding to questions I had and flexible with my moving schedule. After our high dollar moving company didn't show for three days to move my daughter from Des Moines to Minneapolis we had no choice but to rent a truck and make the move ourselves. I called Iowa Moving 1 at 8:00 AM the morning of the move and they worked around schedules and had two guys at the house to help us load the truck by 2:30 PM the same day. Excellent customer service! I sent an online inquiry on a Saturday afternoon. They called that same afternoon. They worked their schedule to accommodate our very rigid time frame. When the guys showed up early, and we weren't ready yet, they waited patiently and didn't start the clock until the time we had agreed upon. We had 2 guys for 2 hours. They were fast, hard-working, efficient, professional, and courteous. One has 18 years experience moving and the other is a college student. Couldn't have asked for better moving help. I was extremely pleased with Iowa Moving. They were prompt, polite, clean and very hard working. They were quick and never complained about the heavy stuff or the stairs. The workers were willing to go the extra mile when working with new carpet in our new home. The two men that helped us were so efficient with packing the U-haul. I've used this company for two moves of my own and a friend's move that I helped with. Can't recommend them highly enough. Everyone, from Eric the owner to the three guys that did the loading/unloading were very personable and professional. The guys worked very quickly but were very careful of my stuff. I have nothing but great things to say about my experience with this company. We were moving from out of state and although our arrival time was outside of their typical appointment window they were more than willing to accommodate us. I was beyond impressed at how quickly and efficiently they were able to unload our moving truck especially in less than desirable snowy conditions. We loved these guys. They gave us a four hour window on when they would arrive and they called to check in frequently to update us on their arrival time. Patrick is amazing! So is Eric. When they arrived they looked at all the things we wanted moved and they went right to work. They were quick, efficient and finished the job in less time than we thought it would take. I was very impressed with Iowa Moving 1. My two movers moved quickly and efficiently. All my items were safe upon arrival and I was responsible for driving the truck. They dealt very well with my black lab who kept sniffing around and going into the truck. I think it always feels funny to have strangers touch your possessions, but I felt very comfortable with the movers I had. If I ever move back to the Des Moines area, I will use them again and will certainly recommend them. read more
