He is also very good at communicating and listening to his clients which I think is essential for a tattoo artist. I asked him to do a custom tattoo based on a rough sketch and he made it perfect, and asked for my input multiple times throughout the process. You can tell the shop and the supplies are spotless. Both Isaiah and Manaia were incredibly helpful in making sure the placement was perfect. Manaia was such a girl's girl and she even paused what she was doing to help us take photos afterward, which I really appreciated. Overall, I had an amazing experience. The raffle included an 8-hr session (design being part of the time slot). The shop is located in the very corner of an old shopping plaza (same one as Popeye's) right off the 37 and Sonoma Blvd. The signage was actually covered by a large tree so we had a little trouble confirming if we were at the right place until we got out our car. The inside is super clean with multiple stations for each artist. I messaged Victoria via Instagram with my ideas of what I wanted, and she was super responsive and also gave valuable advice. She specializes in black and white, and doesn't to portraits (yet!). The day of the actual procedure, Victoria was so nice and accommodating. Our session went from around 10am to 4pm, which included time for her to draw out my idea (and adding extra embellishments/creative freedom), which I loved. It has been a little over a week since, and it is healing up perfectly. I really appreciated the patience and extra care, and felt like I was taken care of even before getting into the studio. My experience with odie versus other shops I've been to, he has a light touch or maybe it's just the area of skin I got inked, but 75% of my tattoo was a 3/10 pain and highest reaching 7/10. There's parking in the back so your car doesn't get bapped cuz you're near downtown vallejo. Side note he is very well priced and works fast and accommodates. I've spent a while lotta' time in Vallejo with other artists and the style that I was looking for was the American Tradition slash Sailor Jerry type vibe - in which my previous artists couldn't follow through on since their styles were a little different. Fortunately Kai was able to fit me on a Monday and our appointment was set up for 2 o'clock on a ungodly hot day. The shop is in an older home converted into the tattoo parlor with no A/C so your only options are fans and drinking cold waters. Thus, in the future I will only be planning on getting tatts from Kai on cooler days. Unlike my previous artists, she was (obviously) female and we connected really well so my three hour session went by pretty quick with a few smoke breaks. She was awesome and honestly, this chick has a good head on her shoulders... from what I can tell. We talked about her art work, her travels, her personal life from all over the country, and she showed me some of her drawings that she was working on. Her work was amazing. Perfect and better than I could of imagined. It's one thing to see the stencil and another to see the finished piece on yourself. Surprisingly she admitted that American Traditional was something she wanted to work more on but with the work she did on me - she definitely delivered. The red was brilliant and the shading was amazing. The tattoo is healing and the red is still vibrant. For sure I'll be going back to her in the future since I plan on adding more to my piece. The whole studio is set up creatively and each artist has their own decorative station. My most recent visit was with Justin, or @fatttattz on instagram. Justin was very patient, detailed, and thorough. After drawing out the original stencil design, he suggested to switch and flip the butterflies so it wouldn't be so "top heavy", and also advised that we should do a stipple effect on the vines so that it gave a more feminie look and that over time, the ink wouldn't look so harsh. He even decided to shade the butterflies for more definition and to blend the piece together. I am SO GLAD he gave his professional input and that I listened to him!!! I think it came out gorgeous and Im more than happy with how it all came out. He made sure to check in through out the whole process and he was hilarious!! I highly recommend JUSTIN !!! He told me he's been tatting since '99 and specializes in traditional tats but has started doing realism pieces. Tell him I sent ya !!!
