Honestly, I hired this attorney because I recently moved to a new area and didn't have my usual…read moretraffic lawyer. During our phone call, he made it sound like he would work with the prosecutor to arrange a deal where the ticket would go away after six months with a small fine. There was no mention of traffic school or that I would need to sign a formal plea-in-abeyance agreement. When he later sent me the plea agreement, I was surprised to see the traffic school requirement included, since that hadn't been discussed. The "small fine" he referred to also turned out to be the standard $280 plea-in-abeyance fee paid directly to the court, which I understand is the same amount I likely would have paid even if I had handled the case myself. Having been through traffic court before and having a clean driving record, I knew this was a very standard deal that I likely could have received on my own by appearing in court. I texted him to let him know that traffic school and signing a plea agreement hadn't been explained beforehand and that this was something I could have handled myself. He didn't respond to those concerns and continued sending the agreement for signature. I eventually signed it, but not happily, because I ended up paying for representation that mainly saved me the trip to the courthouse. My advice: if you have a clean driving record and are comfortable appearing in court yourself, you may be able to get the same outcome without paying attorney fees. This service was really only helpful in avoiding a court appearance.

I ultimately paid a $180 fee instead of facing jail time or significant fines. The situation started after I bought a brand new car that was the same make, model, and color as my previous one, just a few years newer. I believed I could transfer my existing plates since they were already registered to me. While taking the new car out, I briefly lost traction for less than a second. I was not speeding. I was pulled over by an officer who immediately escalated the situation and issued multiple citations. Even after I explained that the plates were mine and showed registration for the other vehicle, as well as a purchase receipt to show I was waiting for the title to register it. I was given several tickets for exhibition of speed, using plates from another vehicle, and failure to operate in one lane rather than being informed of the proper DMV process despite the real incident and proof. Matt stepped in and handled everything professionally. He was able to get the charges reduced and protect my license, which I am extremely grateful for. Communication could be improved as his responses were sometimes very delayed, but he did follow up before court and delivered real results when it mattered. If you want someone who knows how to navigate the system and fight for a fair outcome, Matt is absolutely worth it.

I don't write reviews lightly, but my experience with Fillmore Spencer was deeply disappointing…read more My wife and I cared for my grandfather in his home for over a decade. During a critical court case involving his situation, the firm failed to appear at the scheduled hearing. I had to call the attorney myself to ask where they were. When they finally arrived, they were completely unprepared. As a result of how the case was handled, my grandfather was ultimately forced to leave his home and move into a retirement facility, where he later passed away. Although Randy later took over the matter and refunded our payment, the damage had already been done. I also retained the firm for a separate criminal matter. I was advised to plead no contest and was told that after five years the record could simply be expunged. When the time came to pursue expungement, I was told they would contact the city prosecutor. Months passed with no updates. My emails went unanswered, and my calls were not returned. Eventually, the attorney handling my case left the firm and apparently did not transfer any meaningful information. Afterward, I was charged again to continue the expungement process, only to be told a week later that there was nothing they could do. No meaningful follow-up was made, and even a simple call to the prosecutor's office was declined. While they offered to refund the second charge, that does not compensate for the wasted time, lack of communication, or the consequences of the legal advice I was given regarding the plea. In both matters, I experienced poor communication, lack of preparation, and a failure to follow through. I cannot recommend this firm based on my experience.

He was very responsive, asked the right questions, and kept things moving. He sent a strong letter to the insurer with citations to Utah law and made it clear he was prepared to file a complaint. Randy was efficient and mindful about keeping his billable hours down, and he genuinely focused on making sure we were treated fairly. I'm very grateful for his help and would recommend him without hesitation.

Before we hired Ron Wilkinson we read reviews and wondered if the poor reviews were credible since…read morethey seemed so different compared to the good reviews. Well, after experiencing Ron Wilkinson firsthand for ourselves, we can confirm the poor reviews about him are credible. When we had our consultation, Ron told us quote, "I can probably get this case resolved with one phone call." And he said that we would get the rest of our "retainer back to spend on Christmas." We understood it wasn't a guarantee but that it was a good probability he could get the case resolved with one promised phone call since that is what he told us. Ron never made that promised phone call. We emailed him and called the office countless times over the next 6 weeks. We did not receive replies to our emails or any callbacks. We finally scheduled a phone call in advance to speak with Ron, which costs almost $400 an hour. We asked Ron if he made that one phone call yet that he promised us. He seemed surprised we remembered him promising he would make this phone call and that he probably could get this case resolved on that one phone call and that we expected him to make that call. He said the individual he was going to call was hard to get a hold of. We did not believe he was telling us the truth. Another time opposing counsel sent us a very harassing email on a Thursday filled with lies and threatening sanctions (court fines) against us if we didn't reply by Monday. We called Ron's office, we emailed Ron and forwarded onto him the harassing email. Ron never called us back, never emailed us back. We made it clear this was an emergency and we heard nothing but crickets. We had to reply to the email ourselves and represent ourselves in order to get the email back to this other unprofessional attorney by Monday. It is almost impossible to communicate with Ron. He does not reply to emails or return phone calls. If you want to talk on the phone, you have to schedule a call weeks in advance for almost $400 an hour. But there are times when emergencies or situations arise that you need a relatively quick response. Then when you do get a rare chance to talk to him, it's very difficult to bring up your concerns to him as he gets easily triggered and he has a short temper. Ron even told us he gets easily triggered. We were scared to say anything to him. Ron often engages in manipulative gas-lighting techniques where he creates a false narrative and tries to place the blame for his irresponsible actions onto us and blame us for his bad actions. As one example he would accuse us of not listening when Ron is the one who was not listening to us. The ultimate betrayal was when Ron falsely told the court we agreed to things which we absolutely did NOT agree to. Ron or his office also engage in falsifying their bills. As one specific example we were charged $720 for witnesses being served subpoenas. However only 4 witnesses were subpoenaed at a cost of $18.50 each which would be a total of $74, not $720. When we point this out to both Ron and his office asking them what is going on with the billing, we again receive no response. We also had to do a lot of babysitting. We had to constantly call and email over and over and over to make sure things are getting done. For example, we called multiple times about correctly scheduling something. We were finally told there were about 5 dates to choose from and we would get a call back to get our permission to schedule the time and place. About a week goes by with no one calling us back. So we have to call into the office again. And we are told that the thing was scheduled without ever talking to us. And this thing was scheduled at a time we could NOT make and at a place we clearly did NOT agree to. So we have to spend more time and more money getting it rescheduled and fixed to the correct place. In short, instead of us being properly represented, there were multiple times we were misrepresented by our own counsel.

I don't normally write reviews, especially not negative reviews. And though this review isn't…read morecompletely negative, I do wish that as I looked for the best-solution lawyer, I'd been at a less emotional moment of my life so I could really find one who would be more on my side of figuring out a logical, reasonable, ethical, and more positive end-result for me. I put $9K into an account with Hoyer Law (borrowed from a family member) and I didn't even get to a stable financial position from mediation. I feel that I was financially taken, and I don't have any money to spare. The refund of what is left after everything is said and done, was a whole $500. The supporting staff at Hoyer Law were amazing! They were all kind and attentive, even though I didn't have much personal contact with them. Anytime I had a question they seemed to get right back to me within the day, or the next day - but because of the cost of asking questions (at $390/hour), I didn't ask all that I should have because I couldn't afford it. But any time I dared to ask questions or ask for help in any way, they were quick and kind to respond. Because I couldn't afford to use up time, I chose to write an 8-page bullet point list of the ways I was lied to and how I was financially abused during my marriage, thinking this would be a less-expensive way of giving information that I felt was pertinent to my case. Having been a high school teacher, I assumed another professional person (the lawyer who represented me was not Casey Hoyer, but a colleague of his) would be able to read such a document in a short amount of time, maybe a half hour, possibly an hour if they needed. I was charged for 2.5 hours to read that document - and NOT ONE of the points from that document were used during mediation. I understand that the mediation was just a place to decide the financials of the divorce, it wasn't with a judge who could decide if lies were told and how I had been abused financially, and how my now-ex could be accountable for them. I had hoped, however, that the lawyer who represented me would learn from and understand that the emotional and financial abuse were real, and that I needed to get to a stable place in my life to move forward with healing. Just to file the papers and begin to prepare for mediation cost me $4K. That shocked me! I had previously filled out all the information they asked for when I filed for divorce by myself with the court. It is logical they would need to clarify and get updated information, but I then needed to borrow more money to fund the remaining of the already-begun proceedings. I wish they would charge a flat amount for getting that done because I would know ahead of time what the cost for that would be. I was also charged a high amount for the lawyer to "prepare for mediation", whatever that means. When I asked about it, I was told that the details of that preparation were in the invoice for that action, but they were not. I don't understand why 3 hours of time were needed to prepare, because when we got to mediation all the documents and information were on the computer being used to clarify the information. I was also there to answer questions. So, what was there to prepare for? The lawyer did not use any of the information from the bullet-point document, and all the documents that would be available to the lawyer to "prepare" were standard issue - meaning he didn't have to read anything that would be in a different format than what he was used to AND he had all that information on his computer and used it during the mediation. Why did it take him 3 hours to prepare? What did he prepare? There were no answers to those questions. I am not a lawyer. I do not understand all the ins and outs of how to prepare for mediation, but the documented time FEELS inflated. Mediation only lasted three hours, and I came out more behind than I ever thought I would because I thought the lies my now-ex told me during our marriage could at least be leveraged to help me regain some measure of financial and emotional stability - but they did not. I understand that mediation was THAT DAY and decisions would be made, I just thought the lawyer would have some ideas to make things right and not depend on me to think of the ideas at a moment's notice, especially knowing how emotional that day could be for clients - I didn't see any evidence of him being prepared - why it took 3 hours to prepare isn't known. Basically, the accounting of time that was charged to my case FEELS wrong because it just doesn't add up. I FEEL that I was taken on as a client just because money was needed or wanted, not because they wanted to help me come out ahead or to help me find justice in being wronged by a con man and narcissist. I thought I hired someone who would protect me and my future, instead, I came out very behind. I've gotta go with my gut on this one: the time charged to me does not add up.
