He was annoyed that we called him for a service he didn't provide and when we pointed his website included coyote removal service and should probably update it he responded "thank you for that brilliant piece of information". Ray came the same day I called. He talked a good show and left 2 traps for the groundhogs in my yard. His said he'd be back daily to check. He came the next day and did report one successful catch but I never saw him again. The original agreement was to catch at least the 2 I've seen. The next day the traps were gone and there were no further reports. He responded to a text message asking for an update saying he didn't know who I was. When I reminded him, we agreed to extend the service at the previously agreed upon rate but he hasn't been back and I haven't heard from him. read more

I am TERRIFIED of bats and Intrepid was the first place I called when a bat flew by my head in my basement at 11:30pm. I called a few other places but ended up calling Ray back and having him come out to our house. He arrived quickly and found and removed the bat within minutes. He was friendly, helpful and I am planning on having him come back to check for possible entry points and make my house bat proof. He literally made it so I could sleep last night! He did his walk around, and took pics etc. I paid him $172.00, and the check was cashed the next day. That's the last I ever heard from him. After reaching him by phone, and sending emails, he said he had computer problems. Very disappointing. I have to start all over with a different company. Sent him an address to send a hard copy. Called the owner of Intrepid Wildlife, Ray Hartley, after hearing an animal in our chimney. After 5 minutes, Ray determined that the animal could not be captured. At this point, he asked for cash/check for $308 when he originally quoted me $285 including tax. I fully expected to be charged less than the quoted amount since he was unable to provide the service he was hired to do. Ray's response..."I charge a flat fee as soon as I pull into your driveway." Ray and his company are a sham and a disgrace to the industry. After he received a down payment, left a few traps and a few follow up visits, he stopped responding and the bats returned. His methods are clearly ineffective and he uses scare tactics to get you to use his services. We eventually hired another professional firm and the service and impact is night and day versus what Ray and Intrepid Wildlife provide. Trust me, stay away from this company. read more

First, I would like to say that I have never written a negative review; however, I wish that someone would have warned me about Ray's unreliability and ineffectiveness. It would have saved me a lot of time and effort. As I have read in some previous reviews, Ray talked a good line, but had little to no follow through. Almost a year later and dozens of phone calls, I was unable to get him to finish the job. I was stubborn and kept calling, but even though he returned my calls and set up appointments, he never showed up. I finally had to hire another company and hopefully my problem will be taken care of. He may be good for a one time wildlife removal, but I would definitely not recommend him for anything involving follow up visits. Thankfully, I only paid a deposit, but losing $300 was an expensive lesson to learn. read more

Save your money. I was charged $250 to have a Havahart trap set up. The trap was set up and then removed a couple of weeks later, and that was the last I heard from the company. They did not solve the problem, or even try to. read more

I call ray to get rid of three to four raccoons that we going into my roof and my tenants said that they would see them walking up the rear stairs and on to the fire escape and up to the roof of my building. So Ray told me that he came to the property and set a trap and caught one raccoon but I looked in back of the building and never saw a trap and he never showed me proof that he caught any raccoon. I called him several times to try to get him to come back and set traps and I look to see if he did that, I never saw any traps when I went in back of the building. He came to my house and told me that he had made four trips to my building and he demanded payment for his service. I paid him and the next day one of my tenants sent me a picture of two big raccoons coming from the back of the building on the front lawn. Then my next door neighbor told me that he saw two raccoons going around the corner of my shed in the back yard the next day! I don't believe that he ever caught an raccoons and I don't believe that he ever set any traps because ever time I looked for a trap in the back yard there wasn't one there. I now realize that he ripped my off and really don't understand why! read more

The other night we started hearing motion in my attic. My neighbors have an obsession with feeding birds and wildlife with bread on their property so we know the birds are constant here. Well they made a hole in my roof and one got inside. My husband went up to verify and quickly came back down bc the bird was flying over his head. He closed the attic and called you guys..We definitely didnt want to try to get the bird out ourselves. We already had 2 downstairs and one came through a vent and bled all over my curtains.. You came in the next morning quickly grabbed the bird and sealed the hole. Problem fixed in literally 1/2 hour. Thank you for such amazing service. read more

Do NOT give a down payment. I would recommend only paying at the end, once services are rendered. He will take money upfront and then never show up again. Just assume he is only showing up the first time. If the job requires multiple visits, go another route or you will be burning $500-$700 read more

Just an update. It's been a year and the squirrels are obviously back. Shocker! Not that I thought one trap for my three level house would do the trick but for $700 I hoped. I'd pretty much rather die than EVER speak to Ray again though so I'll def be calling someone else this time, someone professional and competent. read more

I'm bewildered by all the glowing reviews. We had a squirrel infestation. Ray put a squirrel cage on our roof, then just left it there. he did not check it regularly. If squirrels had been trapped inside they would have possibly died slowly from heat, lack of water, and starvation. Then when I asked him to remove the traps about a month later, it took several calls (he kept promising, then not showing up) before my husband finally got very angry with him. $700 later nothing had changed. Total waste of money. BTW - Ray had also discovered at least one bat in the attic. When we asked him what the cost would be of removing it, his answer amounted to it would be too much trouble. So after that fiasco, we hired another guy who caught the squirrels, eradicated the bats, critter-proofed our attic, and we've had no problems since. All for the same price as Ray, but this time with results. And this was a guy Ray bad-mouthed when he was here. read more

Sadly, There isn't a Yelp rating low enough for Ray and his company! We contracted with Ray to remove voles from our property. He showed up, asked for a check for $735, set 5 mouse traps on my front lawn and never returned! He was supposed to set traps every day for a week but never showed up even after promising he would. When we finally reached him and told him to cancel our service (or lack of service!) and give us a full refund, he said he had to charge us for the first visit but would refund the remaining $550 immediately...it's been over three weeks. We have called him numerous times. He has had every excuse under the sun but still no refund check!!! Our next step will be to take him to small claims court! Avoid this man and his company at all cost! He is a scam artist! read more

They came the same day but could not locate the snake and instead said they would return the next day to set traps. The following day when Ray and his assistants came to set traps they thankfully found the snake and removed it! Will definitely use this service again if we ever find any unwanted critters. Ray did not resolve our issues in our house and did not complete the job that he said he would. We had to call him multiple multiple times to get him to come complete the work we contracted him to do. He only half sealed our house and we had to eventually hire another company who did a MUCH better job for 1/3 the price. read more

Terrible Experience - The industry deserves a better representative Now that our problem has been appropriately addressed by another provider, we feel we can give an informed opinion regarding our poor experience with Ray Hartley of Intrepid Wildlife Services. We first contacted Ray on February 27 of this year, after noticing that some of our roofing's insulation had been chewed and thrown out of a roof edge over our deck. We immediately suspected that an animal might have been trying to establish a nest in our roof. Ray visited our property on March 1. When speaking with him, Ray was quick to point out that our house was a long drive away for him. Lesson #1: In hindsight, that should have been our first hint that he was not too keen to help us. He installed a cage and came back a few days later to check on it. There seemingly was nothing to be caught. We met Ray in person on the evening of March 6. He said he would leave the cage in place until he could come back to plug the hole. He also said he would come back with daylight to inspect the entire roof area and identify any other weak spots, so as to provide a proposal for remedying all areas. On March 6, we paid him a fee of $704.44, merely for installing that cage and checking on it. Lesson #2: We should not have paid that fee in full until after he would complete the remediation work. It was March 23 (17 days later!) by the time Ray managed to visit our house again in order to inspect our roof. He said the snow had delayed him. After numerous reminders from us, his quote reached our inbox on April 12 (20 days later!). Needless to say, by then we were already tired of Ray's lack of attention to our situation, but we felt we had already invested too much with him and just wanted to be done with the required work. The proposal was lacking in details and seemed intentionally priced high to make us "go away." We still thought about it and sent Ray an email reply on April 19, essentially asking for an itemized proposal so that we could prioritize the work that seemed most urgent. With no responses from Ray, we sent follow up emails on April 22 and 24, to which Ray finally responded with a message that quite clearly indicated he was too busy to deal with our problem. We spoke with him on April 25, during which call we agreed on price and scope and, importantly, that he would perform the work early the following week. That was to be the last contact we would have with Ray. We sent him text messages on April 30, May 1 and May 5. No responses from Ray! After wasting two months and over $700 with Ray, we finally gave up and reached out to another company that did a great job of keeping appointments and doing what they said they would do. They had to take down Ray's cage, which by then had been jutting out from the edge of our roof for over 5 months! That cage had not even been installed properly and they pointed to corners where an animal could go in and out without being trapped by the cage, so they had to install triggers to first assess whether any activity was ongoing... Our problem is now resolved, but not thanks to Ray. We only took the time to prepare this review to spare others the terrible experience we endured. read more

Ray, the owner of Intrepid came to my house the same day I called asking for help and diagnosed me with a flying squirrel problem and gave me solutions in order to remedy my issues. I would recommend him to absolutely anyone who is seeking a wildlife service specialist, as he clearly possesses an uncanny wealth of knowledge and skill with regards to his expertise. He was thorough, and was able to explain what was going on in such a way that was easy for the untrained individual to understand, and I will call him again in the event that I need someone to help me with such issues. He did not once look at his watch or rush the situation and because he did not end up having to set traps at my home, he refused to take money. He absolutely deserved compensation for his time as he spent well over 2 hours here, but he was such a nice guy, that he helped me "on the house!" Unbelievable!!! read more

We found a bat in the toilet of our finished attic and called Intrepid Wildlife Services. Ray Hartley came that same evening and calmy and professionally removed the bat and investigated the possibility of a bat colony (10-20) which he found in the crawl space. The next day he had installed the "bat exclusion" tube after securing the entire roof of all possible entrances. Within a week, he returned to give us the "all clear". His service was excellent. He is friendly, always available for calls, and did a complete, clean and thorough job. The Health Department staff who tested the bat for rabies (thankfully non detected) said she also recommended Ray's company highly. I would definitely recommend him to anyone with a bat or rodent problem in their home. read more

We agreed upon a meeting time for the next day. I received a phone call approximately half an hour before our scheduled meeting, confirming that he was on his way. I am enormously impressed with Ray. I phoned him in November of 2012 regarding a possible mole or vole problem with my lawn. (I had suddenly found the lawn feeling like sponge beneath my feet and had no idea what to do.) Ray arrived promptly, as scheduled, and walked the property, confirming that there were critters tunneling around, though possibly just two (as opposed to the hundreds I'd envisioned). He gave me an honest assessment of my options, with the most reasonable to wait until spring (April), as soon (so close to real winter) the critters would go farther underground, and trapping them would be much easier, and more economical, in spring. I phoned him in April, and again he arrived right on schedule. As it turns out, he determined that they were gone and that I had nothing further to worry about, at least for now. He said to feel free to phone him at any time regarding any further concerns. Ray had already come highly recommended to me (by Garrie Pest Control, which I use for my in-house and outside-the-house needs, however, they do not deal with wildlife), and what totally sold me on him was his absolute integrity. He is utterly without guile. He is honest and forthright, exceptionally knowledgeable, and wants only for the customer to get the most accurate assessment and service--even if he does not make a dime on a house call. Though I hope I have no further wildlife concerns, I would call Ray in a heartbeat. I know that, no matter the time of day or night, he would arrive with all due haste, and would not only remove the offender, but would also be calm and gracious throughout the process.
