There were four people ahead of me in line and I was still helped and out the door in less than ten mins. I guarantee if I went to the DMV at 4pm (not sure how late the DMV is even open until) on the last day of the month I would've waited hours. The staff was so friendly and helpful and even apologized for the wait (what wait??). I paid a bit more for convenience but it is WELL worth it considering I still had a ton of errands to do after.

I had the pleasure of staying her a few days while in Alaska on vacation at the Air Force TLF (Temporary Lodging Facilities) as a home base between stints in Seward and off base Hotels. I'm going to butcher a lot of the specifics because I'm not military. I was a dependent as a youth and this trip was planned for by my sister (Air Force) There is some redundancy on gates due to a combination of bases, but as we were still getting used to the 10:30pm summertime sunsets, most gates close early and without schedule/warning making entry slightly more difficult. There was an airshow when we arrived so the road closures and road blocks to keep public to certain areas of the base made a lot of back tracking. The main roads are well maintained, but parking lots are pretty much at the mercy of the extreme weather with some deep potholes. It's a pretty flat base and you can see planes take off in the distance from almost anywhere. The PX/BX is cool, reminds me of a Fred Meyer, but with a dedicated food court and some outside vendors. Commissary it's pretty basic. Gas is cheap probably due to the oil Alaska produces. The Burger King on base closes early even though we stocked the fridge at our housing. What I did make use of was the recreational facility. You can rent a hot tub there? Coolers, rain gear, bikes, fishing gear, archery gear for hunting, kind of whatever you need. It all was really cheap, if not free. I didn't explore too much because of the 100% security check and it's a big base and I didn't feel like biking around it too much. There was a bowling alley and a bar that's got limited schedule. It's a pretty cool base, but we had some issues with TLF and quality, but rec facility made up for it.

This location has beautiful surroundings with a river leading to a dam where the salmon come back. The dam itself is beautiful as well The inside of the visitors center teaches you all about the life cycle of Alaskan fish and you get to see them in the pools growing before they get released. Great place not only for adults but kids as well.

Eagle River is a bedroom community just North of Anchorage. The only year round attraction in…read moreEagle River is the Nature Center (see separate review) at the end of Eagle River Road. Eagle River has a few festivals throughout the year that are worth seeing. Bear Paw Festival is Eagle River's yearly fair held in July. It consists of a parade, fair type booths and many activities for the whole family. Each year the Bear Paw has a different theme. Last year it was Pirates, this year it is a Circus theme. Some of the events include a slippery salmon toss, outhouse races and a salmon cook-off. Eagle River Scottish Highland Games is held at the Lion's park every June. If you like the sound of bagpipes and watching large men throwing even larger objects about, this event is for you.

This is a nice, tasteful and respectfully done memorial. It does not have a designated parking…read morearea, but there is metered street parking available within a reasonable walking distance. It is located right next to Fire Station 1. This memorial, which was dedicated in 201, honors the State's first responders that have made the ultimate sacrifice. It features a bronze statue of a firefighter in turnout gear, hold a hose and ready to fight a fire. The statue is very detailed, you can actually see the icecicles hanging from the firefighter's helmet. They look so real. The statue has a cement pedestal in front of it with a bronze plaque with the Firefighters Prayer on it. There are 6 walls low brick walls that are surrounding the statue. Two walls are joined together at the center and has an EMS and firefighters cross above them along with a bell. The walls have bronze plaques on the with the name of each State hero engraved on them. There are a lot of blank space and hopefully, it will stay that way. The plaza that the memorial sits is well maintained and in excellent shape. It was constructed completely with private donations and funds. The ground is made of brick pavers and has some lights counter sunk into it to provide nighttime illumination. This is a fitting tribute to those everyday heroes. This is not a big time consumer, but is neat to see and could be coupled with visits to the Anchorage Firefighters Museum, the Alaska Law Enforcement Museum, and other nearby attractions.
