I was here on Boxing day, and didn't find rude attendants. So I'm guessing it might be an issue of taste and brand. They weren't holding our hand or anything and allowing my cousin and myself to browse freely and independently. Compared to something like the service at Aritzia in Prudential, this boutique style store might just have a more hands off approach. I wish I had thought to take photos up front. The business photos here are outdated. And the clothes though exorbitantly priced, were beautiful and in vogue. My cousin thought the curation of shoes was great and I certainly favored the denim options. I would be hard pressed to find a store with worse service than the Intermix on Newbury Street. The lack of mere acknowledgment upon entering takes rude to an entirely new level. I shopped the brand in NY and CT for over a decade and now solely use the Boston location to try on pieces I then order off the website. They are pretentious and scan every customer down to the shoe and the shopping bag before deciding whether or not to even give a hello, let alone offer even minimal assistance. And from this generally useless piece of trash I gleaned a super bit of knowledge that the notorious Kim Kardashian (generally regarded as a useless piece of ass but always manages to look smokin') fancies a store by the name of Intermix. So along come I on a Sunday afternoon remembering the name, bravely entered in clothing that rendered me invisible to the plastic staff. I breezed through to peruse the racks in peace. Pieces carefully displayed See by Chloe Diane Von Furstenburg Stella McCartney And unrecognized others from timeless to trendy. Hit or miss. Beautiful shoes that should never touch concrete with their soles. I breeze by. Edgy and fun up front casual in the back All immaculate. I was in Boston for work and walking between a meeting downtown and my hotel in Back Bay. Decided to stroll down Newbury St to window shop & saw a sale sign in the window of Intermix so said OKAY! FYI my city does not have an Intermix. But I have lived in Chicago before which does and knew what to expect. It can be pricy but you can find really special and unique pieces in the shop. Five stars because I lucked into a funky awesome navy blue lace dress that manages to toe the line between edgy and twee in the best possible way on the sale rack. It's a brand called Alexis that I've never heard of but don't care it looks fantastic on! I'm surprised at the negative sales associate reviews because I walked out of the dressing room to ask if there was a 3-way mirror to check out the back and not only was the woman working there nice she was very complimentary about the fit & not in an inauthentic "I"m trying to make a sale" kind of way. We also made pleasant small talk while I was checking out so super shocking to read that other reviewers think the staff is rude. Long story short: would definitely come back! The decor in this boutique is insanely boring, the sales staff is absolutely rude, and their selection is a yawn - there's nothing here you can't find in at least 3 or 4 other stores in Boston. Plus they are severely lacking in a decent accessories selection. To be succinct, there's nothing unique to draw me back about Intermix at all, and I honestly think their window displays look a little cheap and extremely boring. Where's the visual interest to lure in new customers? Before I had ever heard of this store, I thought it was another store like Forever 21 after a glance. It took since months before I finally got bored enough to wander in, and then immediately wandered out after realizing I'd already seen the entire stock in other stores already. My boyfriend makes fun of me for my predominantly positive Yelp reviews so I started thinking about places I really don't like. There are very few but Intermix is definitely one of them. I gave Intermix two stars because a lot of the clothes there are really pretty. But they are incredibly overpriced (especially in this economy). Prices aside, the reason why Intermix is truly awful is the staff. The people who work there are the biggest snob bitches on earth. Seriously, you can't even say hello or smile when a customer comes in? Ever? Wedge that huge stick out of your size-0 ass, gain a personality and maybe your store won't be 80% empty every time I walk by. Things have definitely changed with this store. It used to be very snooty, disorganized, and generally a place many people avoided. I love designer and luxury clothes, and I like to pay for quality over quantity. They have NICE designers here, so if you're unfamiliar with the prices of brands like Self Portrait or ALC then you might face some sticker shock. If you walk in knowing what to expect then you can easily discover some nice gems. Came in on a weekend, and the staff was beyond friendly and accommodating. Didn't end up purchasing anything that day, but I will definitely be back soon. I love love love Intermix. There isn't much you can say. Even when I don't have the extra money to splurge, even going in there and trying on a Matthew Williamson top that I saw in a magazine... makes me smile :) I wish it was bigger.. the one in Miami, for ex, is more than twice the size, if I am remembering correctly.. but they do carry beautiful pieces, and amazing shoes (wow do I love Brian Atwood). read more

If you're in the mix for something recently on someone famous in a magazine this is the place for you. Actually every time I've gone into Intermix the sales staff always inform me if you see it in a magazine give us a call. this shop is definitely for the uber trendy or the fashionable who have no personal style. Don't get me wrong I love going in and looking at things here and do have several great outfits, but you won't see Angelina joie or Lindsey Lohan wearing them in Us weekly. As for the sales staff I agree with Leah's friend she is possible the only down to earth person who works there. People in this store are just TERRIBLE! I was looking one of their bags. One of their shop assistants got me a new one, and there's something unexpected sharpe on the bottom part. It cut my finger so bad, n my finger started bleeding. They didn't even ask if I was ok or say sorry. All they did were giving me a bandaid, and went back to work. Somewhere in the back of my brain burrowed the name, "Intermix." Every Intermix store I've been to, I've been shocked how expensive it is. This particular store wasn't any different though I didn't see anything I actually liked. I headed to the back where the shoes were. Huh, they had piles of stuff and boxes everywhere. I finally got around to checking this store out yesterday. I've heard great things, so I had high expectations. Not bad at all. I recognized some DVF, Michael Kors, Chloe, Seven, J Brand etc. Apparently I shop enough to recognize who makes what on first sight of them. Perhaps that should be a sign that I have an unhealthy addiction to shopping? But no matter - it was a great store to look at all the current styles. It's a small and funky boutique. Prices aren't cheap, but I felt they were about the same as Bloomingdale's or other high-end dept. stores. I've always had a hard time finding the write clothes for my body and have walked by this store for years without going in. This review is specifically for Carlos who is an absolute hero with an incredible eye for styling anyone. I walked in looking for a sweater (thankfully tried it on since it wasn't the greatest on me) and Carlos suggested so many other pieces that I can't wait to wear (wishing I had more places to go just so I could shop with Carlos more haha). Honestly, I'm always the gal who is rushing the day before a big event or customer meeting to find something flattering and always have a tough time. Carlos just gets it and knows exactly what pieces to pair together for any occasion, including pairings that I'd never thought of before. AND on top of his mad fashion skills, he's generally a super cool dude that keeps it real and to the point. I love Intermix, but recently the people working there have become insanely boring. They all dress like slobs and are basically useless when you ask them questions. This chain may be super hot, but they really need to up the experience quotient. For such high-end clothes, tthe store almost has no ambiance (maybe imaginary dollar signs are part of the ambiance). They do have a great many of the hottest denim in stock and they will always have the hottest, hippest designers. This location has very few bags/accessories. The line for the dressing room is always so long snaking around the back of the store making it very crowded. Bottom line: if you gotta have the latest fashion/denim at any price, Intermix should serve your needs nicely. read more

I shop at Intermix infrequently, so my in-store trip on Sunday was mostly for a friend looking a party dress for an engagement on Friday. Most of the staff did greet my friend and I upon arrival but there was one male sales associate who did not speak to us at all (he just gave us the wtf face?) or anyone else for that matter and was speaking very rudely to the other sales associates about the "type" of customers who were in the store. He said something like, "Are these the type of customers we're bringing in now?' I believe this guy was referring to a group of people already in the store or perhaps the entire store? I'm not sure... it was so rude. After quickly perusing the racks, my friend and I left the store w/o purchasing but I did make a call to the manager the next day regarding the sales associate. I guess I should have come onto Yelp to see that this is normal behavior for the Intermix staff! I must say there was a very nice girl who responded to this miserable guy that "these people" are "still customers" but still, I've never personally witnessed such a condescending attitude and such lewd public display in a so-called high-end retail store. What trashy sales associates! If you spend in that store what I sometimes spend online and receive that type of customer service experience... it is simply unacceptable! One of my favorite places to hit on Newbury street... I'm right on with Erica... Intermix has all the great designers you'll only find in high end department stores - DVF (LOOOOVE DVF), Missoni, Kors, Chloe, etc. I lot of the Intermix branded clothes are just ok... I prefer to go to the individual designers. Staff is a little snooty, but I'm getting used to it... great bags, shoes, jewelry and accessories too! This is my all-time favorite place to shop.....Don't be turned off by the uber trendy window displays...yes the place is oozing trendy frocks that Paris Hilton would die over --BUT along with all of their off the wall looks that will be out of style in like five minutes, are some really great staple pieces as well. Find Stella, Splendid, Diane Von Furstenberg, Missoni, Ella Moss and more......And YES is it pricey HOWEVER the more you spend the more you get.....their incentive programs are INSANELY generous.....AND their staff is not only ADORABLE but so extremely helpful....I have my own personal intermix stylist....it is def. a unique experience!!! read more

really really disappointed with service here. I have worked in retail and wholesale and expect a high level of service from a place like intermix. Everytime I walk in their I do a swoop around just to see if there is anything I want and willing to pay for regardless of the no service. Literally, I don't understand why I don't get one hello when I walk through all of the sections of the store, except for the security guards, always really nice. If there is anything in the store that I cant get anywhere else I will buy it, regardless of the horrible service. A lot of times I go in their just to see what they have and find what I want, just to research it or search up and down newbury for a different store who has it just so I don't give them money. I don't want them to be nice to me AFTER I bought a 1800 bag and a $400 dress, but when I walk in the door. But most of the time I can go to scoop to get the same or similar dress or saks, or order online. Scoops service is sooooo much better, friendlier, and they recognize me when I walk in. And I only compare scoop and intermix because they are on the same caliber of a high end boutique and labels. It's really unfortunate because it doesn't take much to wheel me in to purchase an expensive anything, since I live breathe die fashion and shopping. OK...I can't reaaaalllly afford the clothes in this place, but my wonderful friend Leah is an assistant manager, and when I go to visit, i'm definatley not dissapointed. The store is very bright (in a good way) and the clothes are displayed in a very appealing manner. They carry lots of designer names that range from somewhat affordable to credit card debt crisis. The look is very feminine and contemporary. I love their selection of jeans and going out shirts. Ugh. I love Intermix but I really dislike this brick and mortar. Shopping at boutiques instead of online usually renders a few benefits...ability to see things in person, try things on, have some guidance or assistance from the people who work at the store, etc. This particular Intermix has a pretty great selection but every person that works there that I have encountered totally negates that. I understand the laissez-faire approach to retail--I've shopped in Europe but the experience at this Intermix is so far from that. The people that work here, from my interactions, have shown to be rude. I am never greeted when I walk in, never, ever asked if I am in need of help or direction if looking for something in particular and time after time the associates are always conversing among themselves. You can definitely go else where in the very close area to find almost anything that you want at Intermix with far better service. For me, ultimately the attitude of the sales people in retail matter a great deal and in every experience this Intermix has fallen short. read more

Sometimes, I will spend money on clothing. I do not mind this. If I like a particular piece and it looks good on me (and if it hides my late night 7/11 indiscretions) then I will probably purchase it, price-tag sight unseen ... for the most part. Also. If it comes on the sales rack, that's especially tasty. However. Intermix, you are bringin' me down. I love a lot of the things they carry. Awesome Elizabeth and James blazers that I would rather die than live without, swingy Diane von Furstenburg skirts that I can never afford ... awesome shoes, awesomer accessories, etc. etc. BUT. And this is a big but. a) One should never confuse "fashion" with carrying the same G.D. Herve Leger bandage dress year after year, in different colors. Intermix, they are worn. the. eff. out. Please stop dressing every mannequin in your window with them. You style your mannequins terribly. And big but number b) The customer service sucks. Truly, truly awful. At the time, I had never encountered a group of more useless, hair-twisting, gum-chewing, space-cadet, ruder-than-rude employees in my life, and this comes after repeat visits to the RMV. This combined with a crappy layout and fitting room sitch? Um, no but thanks. The stuff here is NOT necessarily that unique, and it's simply not worth spending a couple hundo on and being made to feel less than two inches tall whilst doing it. I enjoy Intermix, for me its one of the more fun shops on Newbury. Its like a great big playground to have fun with all the things you've been looking at online. Intermix actually has their own functioning website, most smaller boutiques are slow to get themselves online (granted, Intermix does have a good handful of stores but so do other shops that lag behind in this aspect) I'm generally very anti-department store and I love that you can find designers like DVF here. First things first - There really is no better place to shop. The variety and quality of the clothing is top-notch. What's more is that this particular Intermix has outstanding customer service. I travel to Boston occasionally on business so while I'm not there all that often, and while I have Intermix's that are closer to me, the store on Newbury street is my absolute favorite because of Monique! She's helped me put countless outfits together, texts me when there is something new in that she knows I'd love, and exudes an aura of approachability. Intermix is a pretty cool store with some damn good sales. I liked that-- wait for it-- the designers are intermixed so you get a little high-end department store fashion with boutique style basics. It is definitely expensive but my opinion is that good, well fitting pieces are worth the investment and maintenance. If you live local put Intermix on your short list and shop often. The temptation to go to Intermix is great with their alluring windows & fab of-the-moment clothes, but save yourself heartache later on & spend your hard earned wads of money elsewhere!!! I have no issues with their 2 week hard & fast return policy, however, there have to be exceptions! I bought an awesome aqua Diane Von Furstenburg silk blouse in August. Of course I have been saving it for a special occassion because I love the shirt! I packed it carefully in tissue paper and took it home to wear on Thanksgiving! I go to socialize in the living room after I put it on & not 2 minutes later my mom says, what is that rip on the back of your shirt? Gotta love Moms! So the shirt had ripped along the seam, but the fabric was fraying. I took it off and I took it to my tailor, who said they could not fix it without it likely ripping again because of the fraying. I took it back today and asked if I could return or exchange the shirt. The Manager at the front immediately said they would send it to their tailor, but I explained how I took it to my tailor already, and that I don't want it to re-rip! This shirt was $275! I want a new shirt! I did not rip this shirt! She balked at the receipt from August (yes I had the receipt!) & said I should have returned it within 2 weeks. Honestly 1) how would I have noticed the rip trying it on in the store when it was on my back and 2) I wasn't wearing a long sleeved silk shirt back in August. I understand that a lot of people wear clothes then try to take them back, but I am NOT one of those people! I love this shirt! If they had another new one, I would have taken it! But they didn't. Check my history at this store! I have never tried to return anything I bought before at Intermix! The worst is yet to come. She then looked at the tag, and looked me up and down, and said that "you need to be really careful with sizing, otherwise, this happens." Okay, granted I was wearing a cream cowlneck sweater, work slacks, and a puffy coat, but come on, did I really need to dress "skinny" in order to approach the manager about this return?! I wear a size 2! I asked her if I could speak to anyone else, she said "yes, but they will have the same opinion so I don't see how it will do you any good." Rude rude rude. I left the shirt there, and I have to call the other manager tomorrow morning. I asked if they had a receipt since I was leaving the shirt there, they said they didn't have one & it would be fine. Now I am kicking myself for leaving it there, I am panicking that they will "lose" it or something. I love clothes, & I love the clothes at Intermix, but I could have bought this at Nordstrom and had this shirt returned instantly and been on my way shopping (and likely spending way more than the $275 credit I would have had) rather than getting fired up & having to give them a 1star on yelp. Intermix be-ware, if this doesn't get resolved, I will be certain to tell all my shop-a-holic friends and potential future Intermix customers about this ridiculous slap-in-the-face incident. read more
