My hubs and I got the couples' spa treatment with champagne and chocolates. We also got a 2 hour treatment which included a foot massage. We arrived at a quiet part of Upland, and walked in a small building that says La Bella outside, and apparently Intermission and La Bella are one and the same! A bit confusing, but a friendly lady pushed the door to let us in and assured us we're in the right place. They made us fill out patient intake forms asking about illnesses or pain or previous injuries, and to draw on a vitruvian man (lol) body diagram where we have pain in our body/or any areas that need to be avoided. Good. I had none, but did have some stiffness in my shoulders. When that was squared away, we were invited to a lounge area with cozy seating, a fake but warm fireplace, and sparkling drinks, Godiva chocolate truffles, strawberries. Barely 3 mins in, 2 females walked in and told us we could bring our drinks upstairs. We went upstairs to a room with two massage beds & asked if we've done had massages done before. I have but kept my panties on this time because my husband was feeling like a prude and did not want to strip down at all (crazy ole coot) so i told him to at least keep the undies & i will too. The massage itself was more like a swedish massage with a lot of pushing and stretching, plus the hot stones (i mean HOT stones!) - which my masseuse Asha would be quick to ask me if i flinch if its too hot and remove it when I reply in the affirmative. The combination of the massage and stones is alright, but I felt like Asha missed a few moves on my right leg - so it wasnt stretched or balanced out with the left. Also for some reason my lower back hurt and i wish she couldve done more for the lower back but she just sort of avoided that area altogether. My peg for a good massage is whether i feel refreshed and stretched afterwards that i just want to sleep. I've had a lady who did home visits and did swedish-shiatsu combo massages and climbed up on the bed and really worked out all my muscles and stretched my body and limbs this way and that way. It cost me 10% what i pay for an American massage - then again, this was in the philippines 10 years ago. Still, that is my gold standard of massages. To compare, the massages in Rowland Hts and asian areas are slightly too rough for me (& still isnt enough to satisfy me). All others from froufrou spas are too soft. I've yet to find a good place to get a massage in the US. Finally, my 2 hour massage was over. They had these nice mint smelling oils that they rubbed on the temples - or the nape? i forget. It was a good experience, but I may be inclined to only come when I want a lighter massage. Lastly, if you want to use a Groupon, apparently you need to schedule way in advance because they only have certain slots for Groupon holders per week or so, but they will accomodate you if you purchase the service directly through them (since they price-match). tl;dr: the massage feels like BDSM with the hot stones feeling like dripping wax on your skin, coupled with the very mild swedish massage that doesnt feel quite so complete. they have tons of extras (great ambiance, sounds, romantic lounges, champagne and chocolates) but could be better if they improved the quality of the actual massage. I'm all for supporting local businesses but I feel like I dont need fluffy pillows and the extra things, I want the actual massage to be a little better! Ok so I finally got around to looking for a spot using spa finder since I got a gift cards at year and I sort of walked into chaos. I called, no one answered. My sister gifted my husband and I a couples massage for our anniversary...we were glad they were open on the holiday. The pricing is similar to a Burke Williams but without all the amenities. We arrived right on time to our massage but almost left because we kept ringing the doorbell and no one was coming. We tried calling and still nothing. Finally a few minutes later our masseuse rapidly opened the door, told us to come in but that she had to go. Nobody was in the reception area so we let ourselves in to the waiting area. I helped myself to tea and my husband to some coffee but there were no strawberries or champagne like some of the other couples mentioned just some random wrapped chocolates. The coffee was instant and the tea wasn't that great. One of those wooden tea offerings and a Keurig would be a nice upgrade. We had to wait about 30 minutes passed our massage time for our massage to start. The location seems like an old house and different rooms are the massage rooms but there's no spa like at the larger massage chains. Also, I guess because they were running late we didn't fill out any of the forms and no one asked us if we had any sensitive areas or areas of focus. Everyone was rushing around and not really paying attention to us other than to get the massage done and get us on our way. Usually massage places offer fruit or some water with cucumber slices or something like that. So we were not impressed with the customer service at all but still giving 4 stars bc I loved my massage and my masseuse Laura. I got the whole works, she got the knots out from my neck and worked on every part of my body. I loved the hot stones and the warm wet towels after the foot massage. Her hand massage was great too as well as my face and neck! I love that she used a scented minty spa oil for that portion. It smelled and felt so good. I felt relaxed with her and felt nice after the massage. One last suggestion would be to use a warm oil for the massage instead of cold cream and to position the head rests a little lower as they were a little uncomfortable. I recently booked a much needed same day massage and did not do my homework on this spa. I was not satisfied with much of anything aside from some relief I had following the massage. Here are my takeaways that others should consider before booking any services: 1.) The location is oddly placed nearby train tracks and you can literally hear the train rolling through (not relaxing). 2.) The aesthetics are very poor and the lighting and signage from the outside are poor. 3.) Upon entering there was no greeting from the two women seated at the reception area. They spoke to each other in Russian and handed me a clip board. 4.) The massage therapist was the owner who is a nice man but he breathed quite heavy the entire session and I may have felt a sweat bead from his forehead hit my skin. 5.) I let him know how the receptionist could be more welcoming and he merely chuckled. Overall, I would not recommend this establishment. Well what's a girl to do after nearly 7 hours of taking down over 300+ braids... well she comes here for a massage that's what she DOES!! My wrists, fingers and neck were sore. Looked up the most recent reviews for this location and since it is close to home thought I would give it ago... it's been YEARS! i'm saying YEARS! since I last darkened their door step. I remember that the air conditioning in here was atrocious during a massage and I never came back. Location has a new owner and the 'mood' has been transformed for the Spa side. The waiting room is a real lounge offering either water of Champagne. Unlike the other massage locales they choose to have monitors that show revolving relaxing slides with the music in the rooms. Here is my recommendation choose chillax zen music. A monitor omits light and when you are trying to relax you don't want bright lights in there. Air conditioning still isn't the best but it wasn't unbearable. The staff was nice and accommodating my massage ran a bit behind (like 30 minutes) but they kept me apprised and allowed me more time once it began and for some reason my Masseuse kept getting *twice* interrupted (I think I actually had the Manager) he apologized and gave me the 90 minutes that I had originally requested. Since I had mentioned my arms and fingers were sore he took extra special attention and it really helped. I didn't hear any trains... didn't feel any either. PLEASE BEWARE THIS PLACE! This was my first visit with two friends. We purchased a group package that would offer us a 30 minute massage and 30 minutes of their spa services. They led us up to our rooms, where two of us would receive a massage in the same room and the other member of our group received a solo massage. This was merely due to space, nothing more. Well, the time flies and the next thing you know, we were given an hourlong massage. When it comes time to pay, the man at the front desk (who I assume is the owner alongside what appears to be his wife) realizes that there has been a mistake. Our group had received an hour massage as opposed to the 30 minute massage we had paid for. THEY DEMANDED WE PAY THE DIFFERENCE, WHICH CAME OUT TO $90. How is that the customer's fault? We did not know that is the service we were given because we assumed we were being given the service we paid for. Were we supposed to keep track of the time while we were receiving a massage? They saw three young women, we had told them this was our first massage ever earlier so they knew we were inexperienced in this situation and made us pay the difference FOR THEIR MISTAKE. Accidents happen. I worked in food-service many years. Never would we expect the customer to pay for something they did not order. HORRIBLE. I understand that businesses like this spa are not supposed to be open during this time, but we wanted to support local businesses. What a huge mistake. Why? When we arrived, NO ONE was wearing a mask. I received this service today, January 13, at 5 p.m. We are still in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. Regardless of how you personally feel about masks, COVID-19 is currently a public health issue and has proven to be dangerous. What a hidden little gem! I was referred here by a friend who had the couples massage (along with chocolate covered strawberries and champagne) and told me About their experience. It sounded really nice and I love supporting mom and pops so I gave it a try :) I was greeted by a woman at the front desk who was super nice and helpful and checked me in for my services. The time came for my first appointment, a full body wax. Rose came and brought me to my room me feel very warm and comfortable. Rose talked to me Throughout the entire waxing making me feel like an old friend rather than a stranger. She gave me a very thorough waxing and was very fast without feeling rushed. She even got all those pesky little hairs with some tweezers. Very nice!! Next she provided me with a cozy robe and brought me to the shower so I could rinse off and prep for my next service. Gloria came to greet me for my one hour massage which I was super excited for! Much needed! She was very professional. Her energy was great and her hands applied just the right amount of pressure. I booked a couples massage for my boyfriend's birthday. We just left and are feeling GOOD! From greeting until leaving, it was a spectacular experience. Checking in was pleasant and welcoming, being greeted by the friendly staff at the front desk. The form to fill out allows the client to indicate spots to stay away from, as well as areas that need a little extra attention. After checking in, we enjoyed champagne in the very lovely sitting room. There were trays of chocolate candy to nibble on with the champs. After 15 minutes or so, we were escorted upstairs for our massages. Elaina worked on the boyfriend and he said she was amazing. Kevin worked on me and it was awesome. He did this stretch/massage/ pressure point maneuver on my hip that was "life changing" (the exact words that fell out of my mouth after he did it!). I have to say jazmin was one of the best massage therapists and I have had a lot of massages . I am shocked that this place is getting high ratings.. . I have been getting massages for 14 years very regularly. But my Massage Envy just is so busy I could not get a quick appointment. I had a pinched nerve in my neck and thought I'd try it Intermission Spa.. since they had openings. When I arrived I rang the bell, that is fine, no problem then 3 people came out looking shocked I was there. Kevin is the owner, he was not the original therapist was was booked with (Natasha) but he took over for his wife. the sheet was very loose, as in he didnt keep it placed well when I was facing on top. I personally thought it odd. Also he explained they stayed open during Covid by putting a back door so people could come in back. No-one wore masks, and I thought well maybe they all got the vax, but that was not true, he said they didn't and won't .. he explained to me a story about his mom, reaction to the fax. I had a bad vibe there. I am not an over sensitive person, so this is true and not an over reaction. It might be ok, for those new to the experience of massage, but to me this place likes to bend the rules, its not clean, and I felt as if they would bend the rules further if given the opportunity. My boyfriend took me here on a Saturday morning for a couples massage. I have never had a professional massage before so I was a little nervous. We checked in and filled out some paperwork. We then got directed to a back room while we waited. They offered us water or champagne. We only waited about 10 minutes when they instructed us up some stairs into a big room. The room had a very good vibe to it. It was playing soft music and had the lights dimmed. The 2 women were very friendly and instructed us to remove our clothing (they did advise to only remove what we feel comfortable with) and once removed go on the tables under the covers. The massage itself was nice. What I didn't like was how slimy the manager was. I originally found this place from Groupon with its couples massage offer. I decided to call before I purchased it because I had a specific date in mind. The manager said she would match the price on Groupon (cut out the middle man) and even offered an additional $5 off! I was set after that and was really happy with our conversation. The place itself was in an odd little nook in the corner of Upland. They offered us champagne and chocolates which was nice. My masseuse (Sarah? Michelle?) did not know what medium pressure was. It was often way too light. I typically lie more on the light/medium pressure, so this is really saying something. I figured she was new, but she was in fact one of the more senior people. I would avoid her if you're looking for any pressure at all but if you're new she might be good. In the end when we went to pay we were quoted the FULL PRICE, not the Groupon price. I insisted that that was not what I was quoted to the person behind the front desk. He went back to talk to the manager, who stood her ground and told him we were supposed to pay full price. She didn't even come up to talk to us. Maybe she forgot our conversation, but our call was less than 24 hours before the appointment (I called the night before). So just a warning to all the Yelpers: stay on the safe side and buy the Groupon, no matter what the manager says! read more

As a belated Mother's Day gift I brought my mom & mom in law here this weekend. I'll admit I was a little skeptical because of the reviews. (The reviews on Groupon were better). We were in what I want to call a suite where it was 2 large connected rooms with a door open between them. 2 beds per room. They serve you champagne (yum) and strawberries and store bought mini cupcakes while you wait. Which was cute but a little bit tacky in the way they did it. Would've been nicer they bring out a platter or something instead of a plastic store carton of strawberries without napkins or plates etc... Overall for what I paid i feel it was a great deal & was happy with my experience. They completed the full hour and all the ladies did a wonderful job! The reason why im giving 4 stars is because I found the deal online, and when I called to verify availability the lady told me to go direct with them instead of online, ok no problem. So I make my reservation, for 3 facials for one hour and make my payment. THEN the lady backtracks and tells me she can't do 3 facials at the same time she can do 30 minute massage and 30 minute facials. So since I had already paid I bit the bullet and did a one hour massage so that my moms could get the 1 hour facial each. ALSO when we arrived there, someone at the front desk gave us a form to complete and led us up to the cute waiting room. When we left, there were 2 different people upfront and the gentleman asked me if I already, which I did. And then he asked did I tip, which I also did, o have cash directly to one of the girls.
