I just need 2 copies made from an original photo. Thats all. Color Images replies saying it was $5 and can be done while I wait. I replied to confirm and they said it was easy and to come on down. So I send my husband in the following day to drop off the picture. After dropping it off he calls me back and tells me how rude the guy at the counter was to him and just how complicated he made a simple task seem. He said the guy acted like it was just a huge inconvenience, asking several questions for what should be simple and self explanatory and complaining that they normally do larger jobs , blah blah blah. At the end of the day I hadn't heard back from them as promised to let me know it was ready. I was already on a time crunch, because I intended this picture as a gift to someone who was visiting so I stopped by to see if it was finished (4pm, drop off was 9am) and the guy said "Oh, I forgot, let me warm up the machine". About 10 min later I have the copies. Now remember, I specifically asked for a color print of a glossy photo and they specifically responded that they can provide this. What I got was AWFUL. It was a morphed, discolored, paper copy. Common sense dictates that if someone asks for a copy of a glossy photo then theyd get a glossy photo in return. Its was so terrible. I think he even tried to balance the color, which made it worse...... The original photo was taken is soft lighting but it came out like it was red..... I dont even know how to explain it other than it was absolute garbage. Like I said, maybe they do good work on large print jobs but this place had no business reaching out to me when I was specific about what I was looking for AND the guy who is at the service desk is rude and unprofessional. I dont care about the measly $5. I care that my time was wasted and that both my husband and I were treated poorly. Oh, and I had to ask for my card back because he didnt return it at the end of the task and yes, he forgot because he sent me on my way before giving it back. I drove straight to CVS and printed out a perfect glossy duplicate for under $1.00, self service, took 3 minutes, the picture wasnt damaged or bent like I had feared which is why I did not go in the first place and no drama.

I recently needed a copy of Japan Vogue for the kid's Saturn Return celebration, but none of the out-of-stock Kinokuniya bookshops had it (nor would they reply to my email inquiries *annoyed emoji*); however, the fabulous Paul had it brought over from his magical warehouse in a couple of hours. There's metered parking as well as shared lot parking for CVS and neighboring businesses directly off Laurel Canyon. Open daily as early 7am to as late as 7pm during the week, with extended hours on Saturdays and reduced hours on holidays like the 4th. The prices are very reasonable and as one of the last seven stands in Greater LA, Laurel Canyon News is definitely the way. Definitely support your local newspaper & magazine stands!

This local community rag, er I mean newspaper, manages to provide some decent stories and maintains…read morethe feel of a small town newspaper. It covers local stories in much greater detail than the Burbank Leader (which is owned by the LA Times). Not to mention they seem to always capture great photos at newsworthy events. However this publication fails to fully embrace the importance of new media. Sure Burbank Times has a website, but it looks very dated and only a screenshot of the newspaper's cover page are available to read. Almost every major newspaper I know of provides full access to complete stories on the website. Attention Burbank Times: if you want my eyeballs on your content, MAKE IT EASY FOR ME TO GET IT. Why would I go down to some post office lobby to pick up your free newspaper when almost every other newspaper I read is online? Does it surprise anybody that newspaper subscriptions are down dramatically while online newspaper viewing has substantially increased? Maybe the Burbank Times doesn't care, they are too small of an operation, or they aren't interested in increasing their presence. It's a shame because it's a decent newspaper. I did notice some shaking of the building, which I guess is due to a gym being near/above it? That was a little unsettling, but otherwise, the location was brightly lit, clean, and well stocked. Periodicals are always refreshed and Good people work here to support your perusal of them. Interview Magazine for example by Andy Warhol ( who doesn't want this in their home ) and this place has exotic internationally thick magaiznes like Apartmento which like a true book for a library this is not one you just read or look fit its to build your own person archive of books. Books, magazines, records, greeting cards, tarot cards, novelty items, smokes; they've got a great selection departing from the mundanity of the mainstream. What can I say, I am exactly the kind of person who belongs in this curated brand of alternative media's demographic (minus the witchy stuff, but if tarot and the occult appeal to you, you may find that portion of DP's inventory enticing). For instance, on one visit, I picked up a biography of kraut psych band CAN; if you happen to be aware of aforementioned band's existence, chances are you're in this demographic also. Go to the Daily Planet when you get the chance. On another trip to DP, I bought the Heartworm Reader, a collection of poems published by Heartworm Press, DP's owner's husband's publisher. (If such creative collaboration interests you and you are not already aware, DP's Amy Lee and HP's Wes Eisold are also in an excellent band known as Cold Cave.) Funnily, I knew of the band prior to stumbling upon the shop but was completely oblivious to the connection at first despite being pleasantly surprised to discover they stocked Cold Cave's records in their limited (however high quality) vinyl section. I always recommend the Daily Planet to likeminded friends visiting Hollywood, and they usually end up adding it to their lists of favorite LA spots, too.
