I did notice some shaking of the building, which I guess is due to a gym being near/above it? That was a little unsettling, but otherwise, the location was brightly lit, clean, and well stocked. I just need 2 copies made from an original photo. Thats all. Color Images replies saying it was $5 and can be done while I wait. I replied to confirm and they said it was easy and to come on down. After dropping it off he calls me back and tells me how rude the guy at the counter was to him and just how complicated he made a simple task seem. He said the guy acted like it was just a huge inconvenience, asking several questions for what should be simple and self explanatory and complaining that they normally do larger jobs , blah blah blah. At the end of the day I hadn't heard back from them as promised to let me know it was ready. I was already on a time crunch, because I intended this picture as a gift to someone who was visiting so I stopped by to see if it was finished (4pm, drop off was 9am) and the guy said "Oh, I forgot, let me warm up the machine". About 10 min later I have the copies. Now remember, I specifically asked for a color print of a glossy photo and they specifically responded that they can provide this. What I got was AWFUL. It was a morphed, discolored, paper copy. Common sense dictates that if someone asks for a copy of a glossy photo then theyd get a glossy photo in return. Its was so terrible. I think he even tried to balance the color, which made it worse...... The original photo was taken is soft lighting but it came out like it was red..... I dont even know how to explain it other than it was absolute garbage. Like I said, maybe they do good work on large print jobs but this place had no business reaching out to me when I was specific about what I was looking for AND the guy who is at the service desk is rude and unprofessional. I dont care about the measly $5. I care that my time was wasted and that both my husband and I were treated poorly. Oh, and I had to ask for my card back because he didnt return it at the end of the task and yes, he forgot because he sent me on my way before giving it back. I drove straight to CVS and printed out a perfect glossy duplicate for under $1.00, self service, took 3 minutes, the picture wasnt damaged or bent like I had feared which is why I did not go in the first place and no drama.

The glossy mag seems weak when compared to Genre and Out. It lacks depth and creativity. Out seems more fashionable (with larger pull from parent company, PlanetOut -- which also publishes The Advocate) and Genre has evolved and changed to find its market. Instinct seems a bit like Teen Beat, with pin-up models and superficial interviews. Why not be underground and artsy, like Butt Magazine? Ignore your Instincts... or at least change?

No matter how many times I frequent NoHo, I usually zoomed right on past The Iliad Bookshop. It's…read morealways caught my eye though, so when I finally had a day off (kind of rare nowadays) I made it a point to beeline straight here shortly after opening. It's located off of Cahuenga Blvd & Chandler Blvd, with a small private parking lot out back and plenty of street parking around. I knew this bookstore was stacked but wow! The Iliad is literally stacked with books! From floor to ceiling, this place is packed with books every which way. Because of this and narrow aisles, it can get kind of tight in places but it's easy to maneuver around. They have practically every category/genre you can think of, but be prepared to take your time since it'll take a while to look through everything. There are some seats if you want to take a load off and there's a clean restroom near the back. The new and used books vary in price, but for the most part they're on the cheaper side. The employees were nice and they even have a couple of friendly cats that roam the store (so watch your step!). I can't believe it's taken me this long to visit The Iliad, but I'm a fan and I'll definitely be back!

I've been a longtime fan of the Iliad bookstore ever since it was over at its previous location off…read moreof Vineland. What this bookstore offers is tons and tons of books. The moment you walk in the front door you're confronted with the fact that they have a lot of books on a lot of subjects. In fact, at this location, the moment you walk into the door, you find a gigantic pile of all kinds of books on all kinds of subjects that they're offering for very discounted prices. I've often wondered what would happen if you wanted a book on the very bottom of the pile, and if you pulled it out, everything may come flying. But, that's just part of the fun of shopping at this bookstore, you never know what adventure you're going to encounter. In terms of selection, they have books on pretty much any subject you can think of. In some ways, it's a little hard to find certain things in this bookstore due to the massive quantity of books they have all set up in long aisles. In some cases, what I find kind of fun/curious is the fact that perhaps they will have a sign telling you that a certain subject of books in a particular aisle, but, when you look down that aisle, you can find none of the books on that subject. Mostly, I believe, that's just because they've sold out of that particular subject matter. But, it does make for an interesting quest, because there's been a few times when I've looked around the shop and found books on that subject in a completely different section. Thus, the chaos of this book shop adds to the overall quest for that great piece of reading material. This bookshop focuses a lot on fiction and poetry. They really have a large collection by various authors from across all genres and across the globe. So, if you're looking for that really unique piece of fiction and or poetry, this book shop most likely will have it. Overall, ever since its inception, Iliad has been a great place to find books. Yes, it is kind of a chaotic/fun sort of a mess. But, that adds to the overall uniqueness of this business. Fun place to shop!
