As a cozy neighborhood bookstore, what sets it apart is definitely the people (amazing, welcoming, and knowledgeable staff) and the overall vibe. The layout is awesome. Easy to find what you are looking for and a fabulous selection. The children section is impressive in particular and they do at least weekly children book readings. They have both new and lightly used books (indicated by star sticker on spine); definitely try the lightly used as they can be a great value. Lastly, you must find the resident feline (cat) that is always at the store (particularly fun when you're there with kids). Very privileged to have this bookstore in our community.

I feel like these stores aren't usually busy so not sure how necessary self check out was. But it's here and so that's a good thing for fast & easy checkout. I dislike lines and usually end up at Hudson News to avoid a sprawling line at Starbucks or McD's. Their prices are expensive but they have a wide array of drinks and snacks, a few gifts like See's Candies you can bring to others. They don't have a lot of coffee drink options though which will never cease to surprise me. And when you check out your coffee drinks, prepare for sticker shock. A bottled coffee and water cost me $13.33, sigh.

I love the main Book Soup in West Hollywood, as well as its larger sister store Vroman's in Pasadena. This airport outpost is less interesting, of course, but it's an excellent airport bookstore, with a good selection of titles organized for easy browsing, plus plenty of gift items to impulse buy near the register. I picked up a copy of Andrew Sean Greer's new novel "Villa Coco," which seemed like the perfect read for a vacation in Europe, and a paperback of "Bunny" by Mona Awad. I also got a cool Los Angeles-themed bookmark for my kid, who recently started reading books on his own. Buying two books for a trip with kids was beyond hopeful (I believe I read 25 pages total before coming home), but they were books I wanted anyway, and I look forward to reading them. If you have more free time on your trip, I'd highly recommend a visit to Book Soup before you go. At the very least, it's a fun place to browse.

We waited patiently and followed the rules we were given. The manager came outside and told everyone to get out of line, which immediately created chaos and hostility. Once the line was disrupted, grown men who appeared to be there to scalp the products pushed toward the front, despite her saying that no one was allowed to line up. My son followed the instructions and did everything he was supposed to do, yet the rules were not consistently enforced. After disrupting what had been a calm and organized line, the manager never came back outside to maintain order. Because of this he wasn't able to get any products when these men were walking out selling immediately. There have been Pokémon drops here before without these kinds of problems. This was extremely chaotic and poorly organized, and it was frustrating to see kids who followed the rules affected by the situation. Management should have had a clear plan and been outside enforcing the rules consistently if they were going to change how the line was being handled. This lady needs training and some common sense. Very disappointed with our experience and lack of accountability

The everyday people who supported the business and helped build its foundation seem to matter less once celebrities and high-profile customers enter the picture. Success should never make you forget the people who believed in you before everyone else knew your name. Although I am disappointed by this change, I will continue to support Malik Books because I believe it is important to have books and bookstores in our community. My continued support, however, does not erase my disappointment.

Not only did I not have to run over any undergrads, the winter break meant that the gate attendant gave me unofficial permission to "just park anywhere." Although I was tempted to park sideways across three handicap spots, I figured it would feel almost as rebellious to just leave the Prius in the clearly marked loading zone behind Von der Ahe. This being my first visit since the move from Malone, I was quite impressed. Although the higher ceiling was the first thing I noticed, there was much more inventory than I remember and I was even asked if I needed any help. I will say that I didn't think I would see so much stuff available for women in the range of XS-M. I suppose they know their niche pretty well. I had a five-star experience all around, but I still hold a grudge for their insistence that their prices are, in any way, reasonable.
