The Deets: When I went to visit my parents on the recent Easter holiday, I saw the glass eggs I had given them in the past and it reminded me of my visits to Hot Sand on Cookman Ave in Asbury Park where they were purchased. I cannot believe I didn't come on Yelp and show some love but fixing that now. Hot Sand is a shop that is more like a showcase or gallery for some of the amazing glass blown/sculpted items they create and sell. Best thing I can recommend is to look at the pics here on Yelp as well as their own website to get a feel for what they offer. Speaking of offerings, Hot Sand also has interactive opportunities to help create your own glass blown/sculpted items with their artists in the workshop area in the back (check out their website for details/FAQ). Their website states the "immersive, exciting hot glass experiences are one-of-a-kind" and I agreed with what I saw on my visits there. Beautiful glass art made and sold as well as interactive opportunities with the staff does make Hot Sand a unique experience that I recommend visiting when in Asbury Park.

I have been taking classes there for about 6 months. It's a wonderful, happy, comfortable place to learn how to make furniture. They offer classes in the evenings and weekends and also have open studio sessions all week long. After taking the fundamentals class you can make pretty much anything you choose. They also have project specific classes. I'm taking a class where we make a 4 shelf bookcase (I won't use it for books, lol) It's beautiful! Well, will be. In our first class we learned to draw furniture and in the second we will choose the size and make our cut list. In classes 3-10 we will make the case. I'm so excited. If you have an interest in furniture making (or decorative boxes or anything made of wood) this is the place to be.

My daughter had expressed an interest in acting for some time, but kept changing her mind every time we got to the point of going to check it out. Then early this year, the urge was so strong that she agreed to let me make an appointment for her to go and see what was what. We got to the place early on a Saturday and the butterflies were starting to get the better of her, but we were able to successfully overcome them with a gentle nudge, and a guaranty that if she was not thrilled that I would be back to pick her up in an instant. Well let me tell you. That introductory class ignited a flame in her, and a confidence in herself that I had not seen before. I have never seen her strive and work as hard at anything like this ever before. Ralph, the Artistic Director; Megan, and Dan and the rest of the people at the school are the nicest, warmest and most wonderful people I have ever met. They make the kids feel safe and accepted and nurture them as if they were their own. They truly make the kids and us parents feel like family. They are such warm, kind, inviting and caring individuals. Most of them are moms and treat the children like they are their own. It feels great to know my baby is in great hands and well cared for. Now that she can talk she tells us all about her friends at school and what she did that day. She talks about her teachers and how she loves them and they are her friends. It melts my heart. We love that they offer healthy food for the kiddos. They have fun events, parties and each day has a theme - wacky hair or mismatch day. They are very accommodating and easy to work with. She learns so much, has a great vocabulary and she's very social and this is all due to KinderCare!

On multiple occasions I heard the teachers in the older childrens' rooms raising their voices…read moreloudly at children who were simply touching things or asking questions (in other words, normal kid behavior that needed gentle guidance & redirection, not an emergency situation of any kind). I could hear this while standing outside the building during pick-up and I also heard it when inside the building in the halls. My child started as a very young infant and the 2 caregivers that worked with her most closely seemed annoyed that she was struggling to take a bottle, or cried, or wanted to be held, or struggled with the texture of some foods when she was later starting on solids. All normal parts of development, learning to eat, etc. Caregiver would make negative comments to my baby in front of me at drop off if the baby started to fuss when separating from me. The 3rd caregiver she had at the school did seem caring and attentive and started to do sensory activities daily. Prior to this, it seemed that there were no books read, songs sang, games played, sensory activities. Staff wanted babies to lay and play by themselves. When I entered the room on a few occasions, I saw most staff scrolling on their phones while sitting on the floor rocking babies in rockers or on their bodies, and with older babies crawling around and not being interacted with. My child seemed traumatized by the lack of nurturing caregiver with whom to bond on her first times away from her mom.
