Gina is an excellent instructor who makes all her students feel comfortable, supported, and confident as they attempt new art forms (for them) and create meaningful works of art. As yesterday's "Dog Pawtraits" quilling class demonstrated, the class was appropriate for all ages, as we had a teenager participating in class, along with women of all ages; men would have enjoyed the class, too. We are so fortunate to have such a multi-talented artist as Gina introducing us to new ways to express ourselves artistically.

Bottom line: Hot Sand is a unique glass art shop and interactive experience in Asbury Park…read more Beautiful glass items on display and for sale as well as opportunities to interact with the artists there (see their website) to make a unique glass object as a result. I dig it. The Deets: When I went to visit my parents on the recent Easter holiday, I saw the glass eggs I had given them in the past and it reminded me of my visits to Hot Sand on Cookman Ave in Asbury Park where they were purchased. I cannot believe I didn't come on Yelp and show some love but fixing that now. Hot Sand is a shop that is more like a showcase or gallery for some of the amazing glass blown/sculpted items they create and sell. Best thing I can recommend is to look at the pics here on Yelp as well as their own website to get a feel for what they offer. Speaking of offerings, Hot Sand also has interactive opportunities to help create your own glass blown/sculpted items with their artists in the workshop area in the back (check out their website for details/FAQ). Their website states the "immersive, exciting hot glass experiences are one-of-a-kind" and I agreed with what I saw on my visits there. Beautiful glass art made and sold as well as interactive opportunities with the staff does make Hot Sand a unique experience that I recommend visiting when in Asbury Park.

As a local college professor, I'm thrilled that my students are awarded a show here annually. As a photographer, I'm excited that there is a venue especially dedicated to photography in an economy where galleries are struggling to survive - they have carved out a great space for themselves in the market and I for one am thrilled that they are here in AP! The team at Gallery 13 is friendly and knowledgeable and the owner JV is a force in the local art and downtown merchant scene - we need more people like him! Why 4 stars instead of 5 - simple, it's a growing business, they just moved into a larger space and have been expanding their mission since they opened - I'm as excited for where they are now as I am about anticipating their future! Definitely check them out!

When a response from me was not sent to them confirming I received the email, they had my phone number, why did I not receive a call. So not knowing, I showed to a closed Uncorked, I called the business number listed only to hear that I was sent an email cancelling the class due to the lack of sign ups. Ok, First, cancelling the day prior to a scheduled event does not give the customer an appropriate amount of time to plan something else in lieu of the original celebration plan. Again considering they had my phone number why didn't I receive a text or phone call to confirm. This morning, I found the email and responded and asked for a REFUND of which I still have not received! The day of the event we got a message from the owner that we would be unable to do this painting. The reason we chose this place was bc we wanted to do the tents. The owner said they could not do that one. We had a good sized group and had prepaid months in advance. Our group was very disappointed as most were from out of town and loved Ocean Grove OCGMA Tent community. The manager would not even honor a Groupon price. We had 20. Plus people attending. The instructor was very unmotivated. No personality. It was a job she gets paid to do nothing more nothing less.
