I've been going to Inspire Salon off and on for about 20 years. Last week was the first time I had been to the newer location on Rio Grande. It's definitely a lot smaller than the downtown location was. It's cute and quaint. Chris (the owner) went out of his way to help me get my son in for a haircut, that was previously cut badly but someone elsewhere. Since he's grown his hair out and needs a fancy haircut now, the barbershop I usually take him to is not the place for this type of cut and style. Chris scheduled my son with Tommy. He did such a great job with my sons hair. He gave him a nice fade while keeping the top longer and styling it the way my son wanted it. It's a little pricy but we left with what we asked for and my son was happy. Thanks Chris and Tommy. Will be back! read more

This place was just recently sold . The salon was nice and has about 14 hair stylist to choose from. My visit was pleasant until I went to pay. I was a new client and I was not informed of the 4% charge in addition to my fee. I paid an extra 7.50 fee on my bill. It is inappropriate for the staff not to inform you of the 4% additional charge. So beware and bring a check or cash . I did advise the receptionist that it is unfair not to inform the customer of a charge to use your debit card and be charged a fee. I understand if it's a credit card but I am thinking this charge might not be Legal . The reasoning was because it's a small business . I feel it is the principle to being informed From now on I will ask every business if they have an additional fee. I bought a groupon for a deep condition and cut. I texted the number to make an appt and set it for 10/9 @ 2pm. So I hoped in my car and took the 1 hour drive from Santa Fe to the salon. Went to the door and gave my name and advised I had an appt at 2. The man advised me that he doesn't see me in his schedule. So I show him the text confirming the date and time of my appt. he agreed that I was correct in showing up at the date and time I did based on the text but apologized and said they have nothing until....at which point I stopped him and advised I came all the way from Santa Fe and now I just wasted 2 hours of my day and $15 in gas to be told sorry. I told him not to bother rebooking my appt as i would NOT be back. I will get my money back from Groupon and look for another salon. Lizandra cut my hair. It was the worst haircut of my life. It looked like a doll who had a 2 year old cut its hair. I called and left messages to give the salon a chance to correct what was done. They never called back. There were huge unblended chunks with other chunks of hair that made no sense. The bangs and back had prices that should be even but had as much as a 1/2 inch difference between them. I needed to go someplace to try to correct it just to go out in public. The stylist who did her best to correct it at another salon said 1). It looked like Lizandra did point cutting throughout (which I requested) but that she never did the base cut so everything ended up rando, uneven and unblended with no plan. And 2) she seriously doubted that the person who cut it (Lizandra) was licensed. Some of it will just need to grow out. Nothing could be done. Lizandra knew the haircut was bad. She tried to round brush dry it (a technique often used to diguise a bad haircut on wavy hair). I said (several times) that I diffused it. She said she didn't have a diffuser. (Really?). She put gel in it and sent me out with wet hair. I didn't realize how bad it was until it dried. Susan Trujillo. The best hair stylist I have come by in Albuquerque so far. I mean we all know the routine, you walk in, you have something ready on pinterest, and then the hair stylist gives you a mouthful of reasons why it'll take multiple sessions, won't work for your hair, and you sit settling for what she thinks will look good on you and ends up being $150. Susan Trujillo was the most patient, kind and understanding hairstylist I've ever experienced. The before pictures were prior sessions with other hair stylist who could never give me the platinum look I wanted, it ended up always being yellow! Susan had the most determination and vision throughout the process. Shes upfront and honest and says she will do what she can to achieve what you're asking for, she slowly even shows excitement through the foils and rinses of toner on how it's slowly turning out. OMG! This salon is a joke! They wouldn't know what it takes to be a high end trendy salon if it kicked them in the arse. My mother was a hairdresser for over 25 years in the Bay Area (San Francisco). I was paying $10-12 bucks at Super cuts in NM for a trim and I have never been so disgusted by a salon in my life. They lacked professionalism and experience. Chris the owner hires 20 something stylists who have very little experience. I am shocked they were voted best salon...but having worked in statistics....they prob ask their friends to vote for them or their patrons have low expectations. My hair was long and wavy (with sweeping bangs) when I sat at Andrea's station. I have naturally wavy Latina hair and it is thick but the weather in NM makes it flat and dry. That did not stop my stylist from thinning my hair out with her new twisting technique. I interjected 20 minutes into my cut because I noticed the long layers I had asked for (& showed her a picture) were just being hacked and thinned. Andrea assured me she knew what she was doing....if that is true why was she perplexed at the end of the cut when I said my hair did not look like the photo?I left her chair with my hair wet, chopped and my sweeping bangs...GONE! My hair looked awful. She had the picture of the cut I wanted right in front of her...it was an easy cut by hair cutting standards....jezzzz I couldn't speak. I paid and cried for 2 days straight...then the anger sat in. I spent another $65 to see another stylist at a different salon who tried to "fix" my hair but it was so thinned out she wasn't able to do much to it, except cut it shorter to blend in the chopped pieces. What a nightmare!!!! IT GETS BETTER....CHRIS HAD A MILLION DOLLAR RESPONSE! Chris the owner who also shaves my boyfriends head for $25 (what a rip off because I always have to go over his neck with a razer after he sees Chris because he didn't do a thorough job) asked to see me to assess the damage. My boyfriend accompanied me and I sat in Chris's chair, my eyes red from crying and sheer disappointment on my face. He proceeded to look through my hair, I explained I had my hair fixed and he stopped look looking at my hair. He then said "I should have "checked" in my hairdresser from time to time" - no really? Then said I shouldn't tell the hairdresser how to cut hair....I was livid by now... IT GETS BETTER! I explained I wanted to be compensated for both haircuts as I had spent over $100 for the two. Pain and suffering alone was well into the hundreds....GET THIS.... He said since he was good friends with my bf, he would give me my $25....because Inspire does not normally provide refunds...a customer service orientated business who doesn't provide refunds???????? I told my mom (who is now a retired hairdresser) and she was mortified not only by my hair but by this lack of professionalism. She said that the customeris always right and defending the hairstylist or the shop is not his first priority. Needless to say I will wait until I return to San Francisco to get my haircut. I moved to Albuquerque from Los Angeles last summer, and was sad and bitter about having to leave my awesome stylist back in LA. As a result, I totally procrastinated when it came to getting a haircut, and I will admit... my hair was looking kinda rough! When I called, I was able to make an appointment for a cut the following morning with Rosie. I showed up as the salon was opening. Everyone there was friendly, the salon was clean and cute, and they played good music. Rosie gave me exactly the cut I asked for, asking questions before she started to make sure we were on the same page, and I love it! She definitely took her time finishing the cut to get it just so, and it still looks good - I hate it when I get my hair cut and after one washing I can never get it looking as good as the stylist. This one is holding up well! I will definitely be back. Very reasonably priced, too - I got a cute haircut and some nice Bumble & Bumble product for about $65. read more

The only reason I'm giving Inspire a three instead of a four is that you really need to visit a salon more than once to get a feel for it. You know, finding a good hairdresser's kind of like finding a good doctor - you gotta develop a good relationship with them and they have to have a good bed--er....chairside manner. I went to Inspire because of good Yelp reviews and walking in the door, I was impressed with the two-story, semi-industrial, open layout. It has a nice ambience, nice waiting area, and nice retail display (I watch Tabitha's Takeover so I notice these things). The receptionist was very nice, and offered me some hot tea while I waited for my stylist. I got the feeling she didn't show up because I was assigned to another stylist - not a problem really, since I'd never been there. For some time now though, I've been looking for someone to really help me with my hair. I of course, am not a professional, and as my blah, soccer-mom hair seems to indicate, I've so far done a dismal job explaining what I want done. I've been hoping to find a professional who could look at me, and just "know" what to do. While the stylist I had was friendly, I didn't really get the feeling she had that magic knowledge. She listened and all, but didn't say much (about my hair). Maybe she's used to people knowing more what they want? Anyway, short story, we had a nice chat and she gave me a very nice, professional haircut, nothing hugely different, not as edgy as I'd hoped for; more of a cuter variant on what I came in with. Could be worse, eh? My only criticism of the place - it looked a smidge dirty in places and the stylist stations hadn't been maintained/prepared for the new week (I'd gone in on Tuesday which = Inspire's Monday). (not sure if I was even given an apology for the inconvenience). I was visiting Albuquerque from NYC over the Holiday's, and thought I'd take advantage of NM's lower prices to get a hair cut. The open, modern space set a good impression right when I walked in. The stylists looked very, well, stylish, which is always a good sign. I kind of chickened out, and didn't ask for as bold of a change as I had been contemplating, but the stylist updated my hair cut, adding side bangs, angles and layers, that brought a lot more shape to my length. For only $45, I got a nice cut, and a really involved blowout that alone would have cost more than the haircut in NYC. Unfortunately, I was headed for a hike right afterwards, so I quickly messed up that lovely blow out! I wish I had taken advantage of the price and gone for a bigger change, but that is my bad, and my stylist did a great job based on what I asked for! read more

Inspire is ok. It's loud and filled with 20 somethings running around. I got a Brazillian Keratin via Living Social, this was around last week of April. I usually pay $200 and Inspire's deal was $99. I know, I know, you get what you pay for but this was a promotion not regular cheap service. The stylist did the usual wash, apply keratin, blow out and hot iron. Then, oddly, she washed my hair again and started all over? I've had two Keratin treatments and my stylist never re-washed. The shape of the style wasn't that great. So I do what I usualy do for a Keratin, I don't wash for 3 days, iron regularly. After the 3 days, I wash and the hair was curly again. It's not as curly as I went in with but not the pin straight I was used to. I noticed the Inspire stylist not applying too much Keratin as my regular stylist. My advice: If you want a fantastic Keratin blowout that will be pin straight and last at 3 months, see Natalia at Preen, San Mateo and Menaul. She's on facebook. read more

Bought a living social deal for a Brazilian blowout for $99 (such a deal). Michael was my stylist, he was great. He conversed a little and left me alone when I wanted to read and answer emails. He was awaiting a call from the vet about his new puppy so he was certainly concerned but didn't rush through my service which I really appreciate. He was detailed and took his time to make sure it was all done right. At the end of the service he asked if I needed product but didn't push it on me. He's been to them all, cheap places, pricey places, and never has someone cut his hair quite like Fonzie. In fact, its the first time in his life he's put his haircut on our calender. By the time I scheduled an appointment at Inspire, I was long overdue for a haircut. My cheap-and-choppy bob grew out horribly, and I had tons of split ends. They were able to fit me in the next morning (Saturday) with Nadine. She was running a little late due to snow, but the waiting area and hot tea were nice enough that I didn't really mind. Nadine managed to give me an amazing haircut, while preserving much of the length, as I asked (minus split ends). The haircut still looked great after more than three months, which I think is a testament to her skill. I've also been to Marion at Sanctuary, their sister location. Also satisfying, but I think I prefer Inspire's space and location. read more

My stylist Elysa moved to Inspire just over a year ago and I definitely recommend both. Not only to they help you look your best, but there's a cool vibe, always an interesting selection of music playing, and if you're lucky, you'll get to talk with Cora who's as sweet as can be. Only thing keeping this from being a 5 star review is onetime I had a pedicure there and it wasn't too great: quite expensive and polish didn't go all the way to the cuticles. I recently allowed a relative in cosmetology school to highlight and color my hair. Biggest mistake EVER! My very long, dark hair was way over processed, braking, felt slimy when wet, and like hay when it dried. The color was very brassy, uneven and looked awful! To top it off, I had a very important photo shoot the next week. I know, stupid me! Nearly in tears, I immediately called Ashley at Inspire Salon the moment I left. She was so empathetic and assured me that she could help. I immediately felt a sense of comfort and relief after speaking to her and she was able to see me first thing in the morning. Sure enough, my hair was extremely damaged, but Ashley was able to even out the color with a toner, trim my hair without losing much length and she removed a lot of the brassiness. She did a deep conditioning treatment and recommended some great Bumble & Bumble products to help restore and repair my hair. She was extremely knowledgeable and was able to explain to me in layman's terms (because I have no clue when it comes to salon lingo) what my hair had been through and what it needed to repair. I left the salon looking like a million bucks and feeling...well...Inspired! My hair looked great for my photo shoot and I have since been going to Ashley for all my hair care needs (She also does great make up!) Inspire Salon is not only a trendy salon, but the stylists there are very passionate and knowledgeable about what they do. Everyone is extremely friendly and pleasant and you can sense the good vibes and positive energy the moment you walk in. I LOVE Inspire Salon and my little miracle worker Ashley! My experience was not a good one. I came in for a lob cut & color correction. The color was flat but not too bad, but the girl who cut my hair at one point threw my hair up & hacked into it as it fell. I went on a business trip two days later & flat ironed it (which is when you can always see the cut best) & sure enough, there were two random blunt chunks taken out of the back. They looked horrible. They didn't blend at all - my hair was not cut with precision, just two chunks hacked out of the back. I also told the girl who cut it that she'd cut it too short & her response was "I don't think so." I've been growing it out ever since because I'm too freaked out to have anyone else cut it until I get back to NYC. read more

I purchased their Grouon deal for the Brazian Blowout. I was totally robbed. They did not do the complete treatment and it did not even last 2 weeks. It is supposed to last 12 weeks. Update from my last review. After my unfortunate experience at this salon I had several people tell me my hair looked choppy, uneven, and split. Since my hair was already cut a few inches shorter than I would have liked, I was hesitant to have it "fixed". I went to another salon today that blended my hair and did an excellent job, spending another $60. Directly after, I called Inspire and spoke with a manager to try and get a partial refund for my last cut. The manager informed me that the stylist I had was one of their best and seemed reluctant to believe she could have made any mistake with my hair. He suggested that I come back in to have the same stylist fix it. I already had it fixed by someone else and after my bad experience with their stylist, why on earth would I go back to the same person? It was as if he wasn't listening to what I was saying or cared enough to solve the problem. I would think twice before I thought about getting my hair cut/styled at this snobby, pretentious, and unwelcoming salon. I scheduled an appointment with Rosie to have my hair done the morning of my wedding. During my preliminary visit, she "styled" my hair after brushing out my natural curls, which didn't give a clear picture of how any of the actual hairstyles would look on the day of the wedding. It was clear to me that she was not interested in spending the time that it would actually take to give me a good idea of what she was capable of. On the morning of the actual event, I had a serious accident that made me late for my appointment. My 'maids called the salon and told Rosie the circumstances, and I was encouraged to come in anyway, since the appointment slot was a big one. When I arrived, Rosie was rude and short, telling me that she would "try her best," and that "she only has fifteen minutes." Not a calming nor relaxing tone to set. Definitely not the way anyone wants to start their wedding morning. Please, find another place to have you have your hair cut or styled. Now I may be partial because I've known him and his wife for such a long time. But I must say that their staff is one of the friendliest around. I too had purchased the groupon for the Brazilian Blowout. Now, I had the blowout done at their sister salon, Sanctuary, but I can't seem to find their salon on here, so I am writing it on Inspires. I also called Inspire to speak with the manager, to tell him about my terrible experience, as well as to let him know that before I even got out of the chair at the salon my hair was still frizzy. The manager was not in, and I spoke with the recceptionist. I briefly explained to her what had happened and after many, what seemed to be sincere apologies, she promised me that this would be resolved and they would fix it for me. She then called the manager, and called me back to see if I could come in the next day at 10. That is right in the middle of my work day, and I was leaving for vacation the next day so I had too much work to do. I didn't think that I would have to cram in a redo session the day before my 2 1/2 week vacation. She then told me that if I didn't come to that appointment that there are no guarantees that I could get it fixed with out being charged for it. It was not my fault it was done incorrectly in the first place. And it is not my fault that I have to leave for vacation so I don't have time to fix it. I tried for 2 days to get it fixed and got no help. At the Sanctuary Salon, my stylist showed up 30 minutes late. They had called me the night before to cinfirm my appointment, but apparently they don't confirm it with the stylists. I showed up 15 minutes early, and the receptionist looked concerned. As I was sitting waiting, I heard her talking in the back. At 4 o'clock she had called my stylist to let her know she had a 4 o;clock appointment. I then heard her tell her that she would just push back my appointment, it was no problem. It was a HUGE problem for me!! When she did finally show up she blamed it on a schedule error, and acted like it was no big deal. I had scheduled my appointment 2 months prior to this. So to me is was a big deal!
