I do think that they should make an exception to the 24 hour cancellation rule for illness because they will charge you for half and I went in there not feeling well and I hope nobody gets what I have. read more

My husband started getting his haircut with Mario a few months ago and one by one our entire family - me, my husband, my daughter and two sons have all transitioned to Waves Salon. We have had an incredibly positive experience with the front desk and all of the stylists - Mario, Kristin, Sarah, Jules - all are friendly, attentive and talented. There are times when we are all scheduled for a cut at the same time - the stylists are always on time and deliver outstanding work. I am traveling and needed a cut and colour but I am so particular about my hair. I spoke to the receptionist at Waves and took the only appointment available for this week. I was worried because I have run into many terrible hairdressers when taking a chance on someone I know nothing about. My appointment was with Jules. She is young and sweet and likeable. This was a good start but those qualities don't make a good hairdresser. So I can't tell you how relieved I was that my cut and colour was fantastic. She spent alot of time to make sure that the cut was just what I wanted and even restyled my bangs when I asked her to change them a bit. Anyways i wanted to try this salon out since i saw it when i was at the grove. I was about ten minutes early for my appointment, since this was my first appointment with Leslie. I've been going to Waves for about 5 years - give or take some time. I love it here. First, they have an online appointment system and if they don't have an available time, you can call up the salon and ask to get a message to your stylist. They try really hard to accommodate your needs. I've been going to Rosalie since the start. She's amazing - beyond amazing! So kind and really takes the time to give you what you need. She gives the best head massages after your wash - it's hypnotic! I have to literally keep myself from falling asleep. :) The establishment is clean and always smells great. The front receptionist has always been kind and helpful. I've strayed a few times to "change it up" and I quickly come back and think, "I knew that wasn't a good idea." Plain and simple - they treat you like a human being and not just a paying customer. I love it here! read more

Lesli Fisher cut my hair this morning - 'twas very frayed to begin with, but no longer (pun intended). Lesli listened to what I wanted, gave an honest assessment on what was needed to visually thicken up my thin long hair. Nice hair wash, good cut -- I was very happy with the results as well as the experience. Other pluses: nice clean hip atmosphere in downtown Abq, staff offered me a drink upon arrival, price was reasonable and the stylists themselves are fashionable, Lesli very much included. Oh! The blow-dryers at Waves hang from the ceiling, so that the cord never gets tangled up as the stylists work around you. Ingenious! I live outside of DC but will definitely try to schedule my cuts with Lesli when visiting my roots in Albuquerque. read more

I went to see Lesli for about 4-5 years while I was living in Albuquerque for grad school. I just went back last week for my dissertation defense and scheduled a cut with her several weeks in advance. She was already all booked but thankfully someone canceled so I was able to get in. I've had cuts from highly rated places in Wilton, CT (a suburb an hr outside NYC), Ardmore, PA (suburb on the Main Line outside Philadelphia), Philadelphia, and San Diego. No one I've seen compares to Lesli! Maybe 4 years ago I asked for a cute long bob. She gave precisely what I asked for, but I didn't like the way it looked on me, probably because the women in the example pictures I brought in had different face shapes and hair types than me. So I explained what I wanted and she spent extra time making it perfect, which in my case meant spending lots of extra time thinning out my thick hair, especially right in the middle of the bob, next to my round face, and probably other stuff too that I don't know about since I'm not trained in the craft. I've been getting that same cut ever since and it makes me feel so cute and polished! I continue to get lots of compliments on it. Lesli is also a lovely person, very friendly and nice to talk to; lets me retreat into silence if I want too. I'm worried I won't be able to find anyone as good as Lesli now that I'm in Seattle. If Waves hired her I'm guessing everyone else there is excellent too! I never tried any other stylists since I had such a good experience with her. I grew up in the midwest. I have lived in NYC and Los Angeles in the last 5 years. I say this because I've gone to many salons and have had many different stylists! I am currently living in Albuquerque for a few months and I was in desperate need for a salon that would fit my style and my budget. I am so glad that I found Waves! I just recently got married so for the whole year leading up to the wedding I was growing my hair out and only getting "baby trims" to keep my length-- so, yes- I was in DESPERATE NEED of a haircut. I also needed a base color touch-up. My hair was long (but not healthy) a little below where your bra would be. I like long layers, I usually wear my hair wavy/messy and I like my hair to have very natural looking color especially if I get highlights. Mario understood exactly what my style was and my color turned out beautiful. He filled in my roots with a beautiful brunette color that matched my old color and gave me a deep conditioning treatment. ( so embarrassing..that's how bad my ends were!) I am so so happy. He also gave me very natural highlights- they blend right in and look very natural, exactly what I wanted--I feel like I have a whole new head of hair! It's hard traveling into a new town and trying to find a great stylist, I am very glad that I found Waves. I will be going back to see Mario for as long as I am in Albuquerque! The salon itself is decorated very cool. Pops of color throughout. They offer great hair products too. The staff was very friendly upon arrival. I had some refreshing cucumber water as I waited. During my time at Waves I saw a diverse clientele coming in for their appointments. Most of the stylists have been there for a very long time, which I think is a great sign. I have to say in my "googling" and other research that I spent time trying to find a salon, Waves is by far the coolest in this area. Mario is a fantastic stylist. Terrible haircut on July 7 from hairdresser in sour mood. She was on a tear, finished in half an hour and, before I could stop her, I had been chopped. When she finished, she walked away and never said "Thanks" or " Good-bye." It's only hair, but 3 weeks later, I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the shaggy mess she made. I saw Rachel on the 28th and was completely dissatisfied and disappointed. I was so looking forward to the appointment as my friend went to her and was happy with the result. I brought in a picture of what I wanted done and explained that I wanted the reddish brown out of my hair and a more ashy blonde leaving my roots my natural color. She used the balayage method. She painted the "highlights" on my hair. She left me with the bleach in my hair as she had an appointment in between me and washing the color out. That was completely fine, however she left me for an hour not checking my hair. After she was done with her other client she tended back to me. I could see the brown still under as she only painted the blonde on top of the original highlights I had. I said "should we put more blonde in it?" She said "I know it doesn't look like I did much but it will look good." She washed it out toned it and dryed it, cut it and styled it. She could tell I was disappointed as it looked incredibly similar to how it looked when I came in. She said "we will get it perfect the next time." Why can't we get it perfect this time? Why do I have to pay something twice for something she could have fixed this time. The total was $135 and I tipped her well, which I now regret. I called back after leaving and thinking about it. None of my friends or family noticed I had done anything different to my hair. I talked to the receiptionist who was so incredibly sweet. She scheduled an appointment for the following week to fix it. I then got a call today from another receptionist explaining that she talked to Rachel and it would be "a full paying service." Meaning that I would be paying fully for her to fix it. The receptionist was super apologetic and explained that Rachel owns her own chair there so nobody is in charge of her or her services. I am never someone who complains but I can't believe how inappropriate Rachel's services and then response is. Save your money, don't go to her because if you're not satisfied or even ask DURING the appointment to fix it, it's too bad. The salon is so accommodating but she is not. read more

Popped over to their site and registered for my online booking - and voila Mario was available for the time I needed. Clipped a pic from Pinterest, showed him and I am thrilled with the result. Mario took his time to perfect my cut - it has been awhile since I have had a good haircut ( used to only get that service and quality cut in South Africa - too far now). Absolutely amazing! I have been going to Waves salon on and off for several years and have always loved their work. I made a poor decision to get my hair cut at a different salon last week and had the worst hair cut of my life (way to short, uneven, choppy, and split). I walked into Waves to ask if it was really as bad as I thought it was and to see if there was anything they could do without cutting off too much more of my length. Mario was able to get me in the following day and did an incredible job on my hair! He spent a lot of time making sure it was cut perfectly, blended, and even took time to style it. I left Waves with my hair feeling light, soft, and SO much better. I highly recommend this salon and any stylist there! read more

Kristen is a very good/ talented hairstylist. She produces great work regularly. That being said, she technically did a great job on my hair, but it wasn't exactly what I asked for and when talking to her about it, she wasn't willing to fix the problem in any way, she got very defensive, and attacked my personal character in front of people in the lobby. There was a complete lack of customer service, communication and understanding in the whole ordeal. I left crying, with hurt feelings, feeling confused as to what had happened. read more

I moved to Albuquerque from Chicago this summer. Having been born and raised in Chicago, I always had an abundance of high end salons to choose from. I was referred to Waves by a friend of a friend, and to my surprise, this little salon is everything I hoped it would be. The staff is always courteous and friendly, offering an espresso or water when you check in. I never wait more than 5 minutes for my appointment and Kristin, one of the owners, gives me a color and cut that's easily comparable to any of the salons in Chicago that I'm used to. I would pay extra for the scalp and neck massage Waves makes customary with your shampoo. I am so fortunate to have found this place....class, comfort, relaxation and great customer service. How anyone could say it's dirty or less than friendly is beyond my comprehension. read more

Stopped by after work today to see if I could set up an appt. for a haircut. Several hairstylists glanced my way, only 2 actually acknowledged me. One directed me to the back where the reception desk was. Stood back there going duhhh. A stylist kept looking over at me, didn't say a word though. Nobody ever showed up to see what I needed so I kind of wandered out the same way that I came in. Felt like a pretty unfriendly and disinterested place. All the chairs were full though so they obviously don't have to go that extra customer mile. read more

Have been a regular at Waves for quite some time now and wouldn't dream of going elsewhere. The entire staff at Waves is friendly, accommodating, and talented and my Sarah (yes, I think of this great lady as mine) is the best of the best when it comes to keeping my pixie perfectly cropped and polished. Waves isn't the least expensive in the city but you do get what you pay for and I've always had a great experience here; very much worth the cost for expert cutting and styling, staff that recognizes your worth as a person, and a welcoming environment. If I could change one thing it would be the parking. Since Waves shares space with the popular Grove restaurant and the awesome Nail Naturale nail salon, parking can be brutal in the morning and during lunch. Plan on arriving early for appointments during those times as you may have to circle the block and, whatever you do, do not park at the neighboring Holy Cow. It's okay if their patrons take up parking for Waves and other businesses located within with The Grove complex but the reverse is definitely not true. read more

In town visiting, I took a chance after reading a few reviews on different sites. I was extremely pleased with the work Rachel did with my hair. She understood both what I wanted and my hair type. I've been getting lots of compliments back here in DC. If I am ever in need of a new style while in ABQ, I'll be sure to look them up again. Front desk service was very friendly as well. Anyone who says this salon is good is a LIAR! I read the reviews and decided to give it a try since a lot people seem to have liked their experience there. I booked an apt with stylist Leslie. For starters she was late. Then I showed her a pic of what I wanted and she said she could do it. I wanted my hair a neutral blonde with lighter blonde highlights. I walked out with grey ashy hair, very dark, nothing like my pic. On top of that she told me I have to embrace warm colors because I can never have neutral colored hair. I left the salon fierce, plus she told me I had to pay half after she messed my hair way up! I have yet to find a good stylist in NM that knows what there doing! read more
