So my hair is difficult, weirdly wavy curly and prone to looking terrible in the hands of a careless stylist who cuts it like it's straight. Tucked away just off Central on Amherst, the salon itself is gorgeous: beautiful high ceilings, a warm, relaxing atmosphere, and really pleasant, friendly employees. Following the Yelp reviews, I asked for Sasha. You should also ask for Sasha, because she's amazing. She asked all the right questions, really listened to my answers, and gave me a cut that makes my difficult hair look great while being very easy to style. And for an incredibly reasonable price given the quality of her service. I am thoroughly impressed, and will be coming back. read more

What a cozy and friendly spot here in the heart of the nob hill district! Jessica did a great job with my head and hair, she is a professional with both the trimmers and the clippers, in the end state I looked as handsome as a lion! I followed my stylist to this salon (shout-out to Andrea!!) and it is way better than the salon she was working at before. The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff is friendly. Walk inside and find bright clean white walls, lots of sunshine and funky furniture. Kind of, midcentury modern meets bohemian? They offer you something to sip while you wait, which is never more than a few minutes and you can kick back on the couch or browse the selection of organic products for sale. I have learned that it is easy to make an appointment ahead of time with Andrea by visiting their webpage cilasalon.com and viewing her availability. If you prefer, the hostess is very sweet and she'd be happy to book one for you over the phone. I think they take walk-ins, but don't be that guy who shows up at closing... Everyone that works there is stylish, each one with his or her own individual flare. Andrea cuts my hair and she always does a rockin job! I can trust that when I ask her for something new, she will give me an interesting AND manageable style. I recently decided to go from shoulder length hair to a pixie cut and Andrea did an AMAZING job. I usually don't like my hair immediately following a cut -- this time was different. I wanted to try something new for the new year and I could not be any more happy/relieved that the universe brought me to Cila. Random info, my hair has had the same long layer style cut for about 14 years, something I still love and will probably go back to in time. Over winter break, I made the first baby step to cut about 3.5 inches off my hair for a lob, back home in SD. A month after the first cut (which I loved btw), I found myself having a strong urge to go even shorter. Lucky for me, I had Jessica's magical touch to give me the perfect short do (another 3.5-4 inches gone), I didn't even know I dreamed of. :))) Bonus- I received so many compliments after taking on this act of courage and it clearly was a result of Jessica's careful attention to detail. Jody did an amazing job on my hair! I emailed the salon to see if there was a stylist who could work with my particular hair situation, and Carmel got back to me quickly and referred me to Jody. My hair is thick, yet fine, short and needed some recovery from some issues caused by another salon. Jody was straightforward about the fact that I'd be in an awkward grow out phase for a few weeks, but also made my hair look cute in the process. It has been one month and the cut still looks cute and is starting to grow into my goal look. She took the time to give me a few styling tips to get me through the grow out, which has made a difference. read more

I don't like giving negative reviews, but when your stylist ends your appointment saying, "I know it's not a cute or sassy cut", it stays with you. Everything I said I didn't want, I got. I got in right before the last closings to support the salmon. It had glowing reviews and I'm not sure why. I go to salons for self-care and the person I was with was very negative and I didn't want to push back because she had the scissors. Anything I said was met with anger toward the Gov. My haircut makes me look like a blockhead Frankenstein. I didn't know a bad haircut could be made worse. The first thing I noticed was how classic & sophisticated the aesthetics of the salon are. Next, it's quiet. Not in a bad way but you can truly just sit back and decompress. I have been to Cila twice, and each time Carmel was my stylist. I really wish I had more time to get my haircut because this salon is truly amazing, and having curly hair that is long and thick makes it hard to find a stylist that knows what they are doing. I usually have severe anxiety about getting my hair cut because it has been absolutely destroyed so many times. However, after the first haircut I received from Carmel, my anxiety disappeared because she was so wonderful. I know that I can now go in to get a haircut and not be crazy stressed out about what is going to happen. Carmel listens and I usually tell her to do whatever she wants, and I am never disappointed. Everyone I have ever talked to has been professional and polite, the girl in training always does a great job with helping the other girls and I always leave very happy. I was very interested in this salon from Groupon reviews and a special they had listed. According to their ad it was good 120 days from date of purchase, however the woman on the phone said that they would only honor the ad until the end of the month (6 more days). I pointed out that this is extremely misleading. She didn't seem to care at all that this was false advertising and was not willing to honor that ad.I'm glad I called before wasting my money but I wonder how many will find out the hard way. Coming from SF and being leery of my first cut in Albuquerque, once she began my trim, she completely put my mind at ease with her stellar attention to detail, precision, and general loveliness. I'm pleased to report that she gave me the best cut that I've had in years! My hair is very fine and tends to ignore gravity which is typically difficult to navigate for a first-time stylist that's unfamiliar with said fickle follicles. She aced it. Very impressed. Andrea did a great job on my haircut today. I was just visiting my mom in Albuquerque and in need of a haircut and found Cila on yelp and was very happy with my cut. I have long, thick hair and Andrea did a great layered cut with side swept bangs. She was friendly, listened to what I wanted and extremely through in cutting my hair wet and adding fine-tuning to it once it was dry. She also didn't rush when her next appointment arrived, she took her time and styled my hair nicely. If I lived here, I would definitely return, my hair feels great and smells great too! read more
