TL;DR: $230 for a quick butcher. I'm pretty sad today. I went in to get my hair cut by Chloe yesterday and I specifically asked her not to cut too much off the top/back of my head. I literally pulled the section out to inform her at the beginning. However, it's been cut. I also dropped hints like "I finger coil my hair" or "when I set my curls I use a brush & gel & moose" however when she set my curls she just pushed up with a defuser -- which probably made the curl on the top/back of my hair kinky & ill-fitting to the cut, so she just cut it off. I think communication was given on my end, but not followed. I think her telling me "you set your curls, probably better than me" and then her following up with "I could probably do a better job" should have been indicators to herself that she *should* do exactly that: a better job. But instead she just cut off the spots that were not curling -- which were the same spots I expressly asked her not to. For us girls with curly hair, we know something like this can take months, if not a year to grow back... So, today I'm waking up pretty sad. I practiced being exact in my communication before the scissors hit my head-- I communicated through the whole process. Yet a poor job was done, and even expressed by her herself. My question: would she want someone to say out loud "I'm doing a bad job setting your curls" and "I could probably do better" and then proceed not changing course on her curly hair? My money is on no. I also think it's really important to point out that haircuts here are not inexpensive. They are $175, no matter your length, for your 1st cut. You would think that includes the time, patience, and communication-- but I didn't get that. I got a bad cut, that focused on time more than properly setting my curls. 0/10 would not recommend. read more

Very expensive salon, not worth it. They learned a curly hair style that they have packaged and sold for big bucks. It's a well known technique but not the best. But, I lived in multiple cities, and found Albuquerque the worst City to find a decent and reliable stylist in, that you don't have to take out a second mortgage for. I have lived in Boston and Seattle, and the hair cuts and color were less, and much better. Lots of chicas with attitude too, and they seem to focus more on color not cuts. read more

My hair texture had changed so much due to hormones, hair loss, etc. I made an appointment for yesterday with Daniella. Oh. My. GOD. My hair is shaped well for the first time ever. I don't look like a lion with huge frizzy thick hair. I have a light head of hair, glorious curls, the length I like, and easy maintenance. This was probably the worst haircut and highlight experience I've had, and the most costly! My old stylist was inconsistent so I gave Roots a shot...mistake. I'd requested to be blow dried after the cut, to see that it could accommodate both curly and straight, it didn't happen the first time and I left with a mullet, they were ok with fixing it....only to give me a cut appropriate for a woman in her 80s. Heavy bangs rather than side swept bangs, and an angled bob...with a heavy top shelf, no texture. The highlights were done separately, the color didn't compliment my skin tone, and they skimped on the back leaving my hair 2-5 shades darker in back. There was also half an inch of roots with the fresh highlights. Between the cut and highlights I spent 500 dollars. When I texted to cancel the next cut, they were pretty flippant about the whole thing. Sorry but you can't suck AND be unprofessional...choose one, know your skill limits and charge way less. 10/10 do not recommend this salon. read more

I heard that Sara (the owner) specializes in the curly-haired folk (like me), and she came highly recommended. So I decided to give her a try. I've never been able to control the "frizz situation" when I wear my hair curly without making my curls crunchy and heavy with gel. So that was the challenge...and Sara passed with flying colors! The salon is small, off of Richmond and Central in Nob Hill. The whole downstairs space is one styling station, plus a waiting area and restroom, so it feels very intimate. It's well kept and modern, and it was kinda nice that it's not crowded with people. I felt like while we were discussing what I liked and disliked about my current hair style, Sara really listened and actually got it. #CurlyHairProblems. Throughout the wash/cut/style process, she walked me through what she was doing and tried to make it instructional for me to duplicate at home. She really catered the styling tips to what is practical for me to do on a daily basis. She didn't push products or upsell me on anything either, which I appreciated. And she gave a killer head massage! The "women's cut" was about $65 including tip, which is more than I would normally spend, but honestly it was worth it to get things under control! My curls looked great when I walked out of there - the cut and the styling were both on point. It was one of the only times when I didn't want to go home right away and re-wash/re-style after leaving the salon. Sara for the win! read more

Whew. I can't tell you how hard it is to find a stylist that knows how to cut and style curly hair. Not only does Sara know how, but she excels! I've had three amazing cuts from her and she also has done a great job on highlights for me as well. I have fine, naturally curly hair that's prone to frizz. And the best part for me...I come out of her salon looking great. In the past, every stylist and I mean EVERY stylist did not know how to deal with curly hair styling. It was a really nice shop. I liked my cut for my curly hair, but it was not a 'curly cut', but it still worked. What I did not like was that I just wanted a dry cut, no styling, but she refused. So, I let her style my hair. I don't like their products. They have one brand of shampoo and conditioner, which were way too heavy for my hair. One brand of styling gel, which was pretty worthless. So many hair types, they need more options for their products. As much as I liked the cut, I did not like that I could not get just a dry cut, so I doubt that I will go back. read more

Probably one of the best haircuts I have ever had. Cutting curly hair is no easy task. All my haircuts look good the fist couple weeks, but then they grow out and always end up looking weird. Sara has great styling tips and you leave with your locks looking luscious. My only qualm is the product line . If I am paying over $60 for a haircut, it'd be nice to have products not sold at target and Walgreens. I think her point is that anyone can afford to style their hair, but I would love to purchase some of the Ouidad line that she was trained to use. It'd be nice to see it in action, as well, before the purchase. If you have curly hair, go see her Sara! You'll be happy even without a fancy hair product! read more

Chloe gave me a wonderful haircut! I've been wearing my hair curly full time for about 5 years now and have always struggled to find stylists that can really work with it. Everyone says they can cut curly hair, but unfortunately that is really not the case most of the time, as I'm sure plenty of other curly girls can attest to. She was precise and fun to talk to. Fantastic little hair salon for an intimate experience. Sara knows hair, especially curly hair, and she can bring out the best in your new 'do. She took the time to understand what I wanted and then showed me exactly how to do it at home. She saw right away that I had some color issues and corrected them without forcing me into a pricey or time intensive service. She offered me product but recommended a less expensive version, too. She explained every step of my cut and style along the way (including prices) so I wasn't surprised at the end. Also, the head massage during the shampoo was fantastic.
