I usually seek to support veteran-owned businesses having family who serve in the military. If you're a broker, agent, or your realtor works with Inspect It Austin, I would advise not to use the inspector Clay Mundell at this company. Clay performed an inspection on my house today. I left and came home after work and noticed my kitchen sink spewing out water from the hose near the faucet handle. The faucet never had this issue before, it's not even usable at slight pressure anymore. My realtor hosted a couple open houses for us a week prior and used the sink, no issue. It's also a new kitchen faucet that was put in about 6 months ago and I have the work order on file. I contacted my realtor and let her know the problem, and the suggestion from the buyers agent was to call Clay directly and ask about the leak to see what happened. I called Clay and let him know who I was, and that I noticed the kitchen sink was now leaking. He knew immediately what I was talking about since he included it in his inspection report. He said the issue was not originally present, but as he was performing a hot water test, the faucet began to leak from the hose. Now it sprays water every time I turn it on. I asked him how to fix it/what to do, since he's an inspector, figured he might know! And he told me I will probably have to replace it... I said it's new, I just paid for it to be installed months ago, and asked what the protocol was for something like this? Should he replace it since it was not leaking before he performed his inspection? Any way he could patch it? I really wasn't sure! Saw him as the professional. I was taken back by his response, and it's why I'm writing this review. Clay asked me "do you think I swung your faucet around the house and tried to break it?" and said there was no way he would replace it, it's not on him, and "it's a house, things break all the time". Word for word. It was a defensive response when I just expected to have a normal conversation and come to a quick resolution. Really didn't expect a man who was in my house for hours today to talk to me like that. I told him he's extremely unprofessional, I'd file a complaint, and hung up. Really didn't know what to say or how to handle the situation. I later looked at the Blink cameras to see if I could catch anything while it happened, I didn't see anything, but he was vaping all around my house. They also said we didn't provide a key in my realtors keybox...but then later found it. Really unprofessional experience. Buying and selling a new home is really stressful, usually inspectors have always made it an easier experience for me. This was the worst experience I've had. To reiterate, this is not a reflection on the company as a whole, this is just my experience with the one inspector, Clay Mundell. I plan to file a complaint tomorrow to let 'Inspect It Austin' know about the incident. read more

If there were 100 stars I'd give them. I don't review unless I had horrible service but Inspect It Austin deserves this. I called on Wednesday at 5 pm requesting a next day pre-dry wall inspection. They were able to make that happen. I day notice, AMAZING! The cost was within the expected amount. The confirmation email right after setting appointment. Confirmation and payment process was easy. Next morning at 9 am Jose completed a very thorough evaluation of our new build. Very detailed explanations and pictures. We had our full report within a few hours of him completing it. As a first-time home buyer, we were very nervous about our inspection, I've always heard so many horror stories about things being missed that cost thousands down the road. Knowing this, we were only looking at companies who were recommended to us, and Inspect It Austin came up SEVERAL times. Y'all. Best. Decision. Ever. We worked with Ben and he was fantastic. He was extremely thorough and explained the reasoning behind him marking something as a priority issue or not. He was patient and understanding and answered all of our questions (and there were a lot). After a recommendation, I contacted Inspect It Austin to inspect our new build single-family home. I received a prompt response and was able to secure an inspection date relevant to our closing date. Experience of service: My experience with Joey was amazing! Joey took the time to go through the report with me page by page. While discussing his findings, Joey showed me his detailed photos (he had gone as high as climbing on the roof and as low as crouching down low to look at the cabinets!). He was patient and great at explaining when I had questions and physically pointed the items out to me so that I could feel confident that I understood. Overall, Joey was very thorough, detailed-oriented, and clear in describing his findings - both verbally and written. The care he put into inspecting my home seemed beyond boilerplate/status quo, he seemed passionate and caring about my home! Other notes: I am big on researching vendors and service providers before making a selection. I was impressed by the details and storytelling on the Inspect It Austin website and social media accounts. I ultimately went with Inspect It Austin because it seems to be a small, family-owned business ,the owner is a local entrepreneur, and many of the staff (including the owner) are veterans. I come from a family of veterans and teachers - which the company supports and hires - so I was moved to see a company not just try market to, but is made up of and has gives jobs to these demographics. Recommend? Yes! Of course, I am not an inspector so I am leaning on faith and the facts I saw in the report. I am grateful that I used Austin Inspect It! It was worth the time and price to have Joey come out and inspect our home. Though Joey did not find major issues, I have no regrets about spending the time and money, because he found things that the builder had missed. Speaking as a homeowner, I am appalled by the mistakes these inspectors made. Two different inspectors came out. The first said he had trouble finding the thermostat, and spent nearly 6 hours at the house, while I had to find a second place to keep my dog as the time dragged on. He also chipped away the wood laminate on the ladder to the attic in our historic home. He told buyers the roof was hail damaged and that that attic and decking showed water damage, which scared off the potential buyers. However, we called an actual roof inspector, who laughed at that assessment and confirmed the roof showed only wear where it received full sun and showed us photos proving the attic and decking were solid and dry. The second inspector confessed (after I spent a frantic hour checking the fuse box and electricity to figure out why the light stopped working) that he had broken the lamp in the fan over our table by pulling the pull cord too roughly. He also took 5 and a half hours to inspect a 2000 sf home. One of the inspectors chipped away at the corner of the faux fireplace to see what was behind it, permanently damaging the facade. One of them opened the historic gate the wrong direction so it got stuck on a rock, beyond the extension of the hinge. He also told buyers he could not find the water turn-off...which was a brand new installation by the city in the front yard, right next to the water main. Both inspectors were amiable, and I am glad the company is putting veterans to work, but I am saddened and angry at the damage they did to this special, historic old house. I am convinced neither were experts of any kind at home inspection. The comment of the inspector in response to broken light was that the prospective buyer wanted to change the fixture out anyway. But this is still my home! Our realtor called to talk to the owner about her concerns but he refused to talk to her. read more

Buyers & Sellers considering "Inspect It Austin" as a home inspection company BEWARE! "Inspect It Austin" is just AWFUL! I was a high-end custom home builder in Austin and Central Texas and had extensive experience working with home inspectors. Many builders have adversarial relationships with inspectors because the demand for quality costs them money, time and effort but my reputation as a home builder with these inspectors was highly regarded because I considered them part of my team in building the best home possible for my clients. I took great pride in the details and the craftsmanship of my homes. In 2023, I was selling my personal home on Lake Travis and the buyer chose "Inspect It Austin" to perform the inspection. The experience with this company was so bad that I came very close to telling them to leave the property and inform the buyer that I was withdrawing the contract. The inspector's name was Ben McCue. He was unquestionably the most insolent inspector I have had the misfortune to encounter. He entered our home with an attitude and tore through it with abject disregard for the fact he was entering another's living space. He also broke a number of items both inside and outside our home and offered no apologies or even acknowledgment of his destruction. The disrespect shown towards me and my wife and our property was not exclusive to Ben as I heard him speak with the owner, Joey O'Brien who not only validated but encouraged this insolence. Granted, there may be some inspectors within this company who show respect and do not behave as Ben McCue but a company's culture comes from the top down and I place the arrogance of "Inspect It Austin" entirely on Mr. O'Brien's shoulders. If I were either a buyer or a seller of a home needing an inspection, I would not let "Inspect It Austin" anywhere near my home as their behavior is shameful. I am so happy I decided to use Inspect It Austin to perform my home inspection. It was a superior experience from beginning to end. First, I was impressed by their website which clearly explained what was included with their inspections, the costs, as well as what additional services could be added. Helpful information was also provided about their employees who perform their inspections. I next looked at Google and Yelp to confirm that my initial preference for Inspect it was a good one. The next positive experience was speaking with the lady who answered the phone. She was pleasant, easy to talk to, and very efficient. I was able to set an inspection quickly (as is important with a short option period). I was very fortunate to have Justin selected as my inspector. Justin was great in so many ways. He showed up timely and went right to work. He was professional, knowledgeable, organized and helpful. He inspired trust and is a great representative for Inspect It Austin. I tried to stay out of Justin's way so he could perform a thorough inspection without someone looking over his shoulder. When it came time to ask some questions, however, he was informative and gave clear and direct answers. He spent hours inspecting the house and it was evident that not a moment was wasted. Toward the end of the inspection a torrential downpour started but this did not deter Justin. I could still see him running from one side of the yard to the other to make sure he completed everything on his list. At the end, he provided an impressive written report. He had taken photos, including thermal images, of any problem areas, with arrows identifying the source of the problem, and a written explanation. This makes it easier for me, the new homeowner, to call electricians and plumbers to the house and show them through photos and Justin's written comments, what needs to be done. For example, he took photos of where the gas piping system was not bonded to the grounding electrode system, the absence of an emergency float switch in the overflow pan of the HVAC, an inoperable, hose bib/backflow preventer, the position of broken sprinkler heads, and where tree branches/vegetation were in contact with the house. This is invaluable. The quality of his photos was amazing. I don't know how he was able to accomplish so much with such efficiency. Another very thoughtful and helpful service provided by Justin was that he took photos of the model and serial numbers of the two HVAC units (interior and exterior) and the hot water heater. This will make it much easier should I need to call for service. He also helped identify general maintenance issues through photos on the outside of my house, such as where caulking had deteriorated and needed new caulking. This is just a sample of what was in the extensive report. The bottom line is that Inspect It Austin provided superb service. read more

Don't even think about buying a house (new construction or not) without an inspection. Well worth the investment. Ben did a terrific job, a real eagle eye. He found all kinds of repairs that were need (on a new construction house!), that we would have found out later the hard way. They now have drones that can look on the roof. Pretty cool. I had a first inspection done by a company of the builder's choosing but I didn't really understand it, so a friend referred me to Inspect it Austin. I called and she was able to accommodate the builder's schedule and said builder rescheduled at the 11th hour but the inspector (whom was already on the way) did an informal visit and got the ball rolling for things that had to be fixed. I hired Joey for my phase inspections in Mar 2020 and he missed SEVERAL large and obvious problems with my home. After confronting him about his mistakes, he merely blamed it on trades coming into the home after his inspections. I hired a different inspector when my 1 year home warranty came up and the inspector found several other large and obvious issues that Joey missed. Overall, I would look elsewhere for any type of inspection needs that you might have, it's clear that you will not get what you paid for here. Most realtors give you a list of inspectors when you need on conducted. My realtor gave me one number and now I know why. I called this company on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend and left a message. I got a call back five minutes later to book the inspection. My situation was somewhat time sensitive and they got me booked without a hitch. Inspection day came and I got my report the same day and the inspector called me to walk me through it and make sure everything was clear.
