Second time we have been for brunch. Love both the "always" and brunch menus as I was stifled by so many options. Terrific Benedict's...the home fry potatoes are amazing...with a great ketchup bbq sauce. The cauliflower soup is wow. Great service and great booth table. read more

I went here for brunch with my friend after seeing such appetizing photos of their chicken and waffles. We arrived, and were immediately seated by our server. Service here is amazing, she was so attentive and friendly. Inside had good seating with homey decor. The food overall, however, was just okay. Maybe it was not my cup of tea, but I felt overall it was lacking some flavor or texture. Regardless, I had a great time due to the service and glad I tried! read more

Lovely place for real cocktails. Lovely staff. Chill ambiance. Cosy. Very old school.

We had brunch fruits and coffee at the Insomnia restaurant and everything was delicious. The staff were friendly and there was a good number of seating available but be sure to book a table prior at it fills up quickly. The food was good and fresh and the coffee was brewed well. The lounge seating was cozy as well great for hangouts with friends and family. read more

Small amount of food option on the late night menu. The price for late night is just a small discount to the regular price. Food was good and decent portion with some varieties. However the music was too loud to talk over. When I mentioned this to the server, he said it's live DJ night and can't go anything about it (while I had to repeat this sentence because he didn't catch it the first time). read more

Crispy potatoes. Fluffy bun with a huuuge slab of peameal bacon. Not much to complain about. The bennys are delicious and also come with a huge piece of peameal. The hollandaise was not too greasy or breaking. A decent spot for brunch, albeit the seats are a bit odd and uncomfortable. read more

The food here was okay, but the customer service was so off-putting that it overshadowed the meal for me. We came in for a simple and relatively quick brunch. I ordered one drink for myself and the two of us ordered two basic egg dishes (an omelette and classic breakfast with practically no substitutions and requests). We then waited almost an hour, even though the restaurant was only half full. No one informed us of any delays, and when I mentioned I was in a rush for an appointment, the waitress insisted the food was "10 minutes away," which wasn't true. When I later directly asked the waitress to cancel the order and bring the cheque just for the drink, her apology felt insincere and was followed by a defensive explanation rather than accountability ("I wasn't aware you were in a rush"). At that point, I didn't really want to argue, I just wanted to pack up the food that finally came (although it was strangely already cold) and pay. We also found it strange that they wanted to charge an extra $1 just to serve the potato sauce on the side, even though it already comes with the dish, which we found to be odd This was just a simple dietary accommodation request to not coat potatoes in sauce but only serve a little on the side, we're not asking for anything in addition to the meal. Overall, not worth it. read more

Umm... Yes! I will definitely be going here again and I recommend this place to you! The menu has a lot of options and the waiter definitely helps you choose the best for your taste buds. I mean come on. Take a look at the pics!! It's a cute little setup. I love the art on the walls and the little flower decor on the tables. read more

Had been running around Toronto for most the day and my partner was locked in on having breakfast food before so she found this spot on Yelp that was close to our hotel on Bloor Street. The brunch ended at 3pm and we were able to place our orders just in time. We shared some French toasts and ordered two entrees, 3 egg omelette w/ caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, pesto, spinach, cheese and classic Benedict w/ bacon. The omelette came with potatoes w/ tomatoes based sauce and a small salad. The waitress was super cool and helpers to speed things along for us as we were starving. The space itself had a cool bar/restaurant vibe. Will definitely be back on next visit to Toronto ! read more

Came here for brunch on a Sunday. Luckily my girlfriend made reservations as this place is insanely busy, like out the door busy. Ordered the Traditional (19) which came with eggs, toast, bacon, homefries and salad. It was pretty average. I would prefer going to an actual diner over a place like this. Everything was just ok. They mention in the menu that the homefries are with their "legendary sauce", highkey just tastes like ketchup. Instead of a side of pancakes or waffles as with other diners its a pathetic piece of rye bread cut in half. Service was slow overall, took them a while to get us cutlery and water set up. They do have a student discount of 20% so make sure you show student ID if eligible, which makes the price a bit better. Just meh, and busy. Probably not coming back. read more

Insomnia will always be a go-to brunch spot for eggs benedict. The dish comes with a side of mixed greens and home fries tossed in their secret sauce (tastes suspiciously similar to ketchup). I ordered the florentine eggs benedict (spinach) which was covered in a delicious hollandaise. The server was friendly and attentive. The restaurant is spacious enough that you won't feel crammed with the adjacent tables. In the back, they have lounge chair seating giving off a much more intimate feeling. read more

Great service and great food! I really loved the decor and overall atmosphere. I'd definitely visit again.

Every time I eat brunch here, I leave with the same impression: average, middle of the road. And what's with the home fries doused in homemade ketchupy sauce? I recommend getting the ketchup sauce on the side. Anyway, there are much better brunch spots than this. BUT I like that they take brunch reservations. And of course, brunch aside, this is a great martini bar (crazy drink selection) and a neighbourhood fixture. So I think 3 stars is fair. It's ok! read more

One of my favourite brunch spots in Toronto. Main reasons are: 1) Coffee is really good. They add a hint of cinnamon which is a nice touch. 2) Usually there's a line on weekends. But they have a great line management system so you can browse the nearby stores, and receive a text when the seat is available. 3) The hash browns are very good, along with the hot sauce. Most brunch spots taste pretty similar, but I like Insomnias unique sauces to the hash brown. 4) great value. The dishes come with good variety. Other places will just be the egg/bread/hashbrown, but insomnia adds some veggies too. read more

Food looked great and menu sounded good, the served meal was far from it. Overall everything incredibly tasteless, unsure what made the Korean chicken Korean, certainly was not the seasoning. Large party and we were served in two separate lots, which was very strange - perhaps they were short of plates or something. Also squashed in - not set up for large parties at all. Caution with billing, recommend checking your itemized bill carefully, we were 22 people but somehow were charged for 26 meals including one meal off their dinner menu which wasn't even available - not sure how that was slipped that on the bill with 3 extra meals! Not recommended - go elsewhere if you want any flavour in your food. read more

Eggs Benedict (Memphis): great pulled pork eggs benedict. Saucy and tasted delicious with the poached eggs as well. it was quite filling with the greens and home fries too. omg the home fries were delicious! they're not like home fries i've had at other brunch places. these were crispy and the sauce was . i have heard them being called "crack potatoes" i would absolutely recommend this dish and have it again Sunshine Smoothie: blend of OJ, peach juice (and one more thing i forgot right now). but it was a great accompaniment to my eggs benedict. We did reserve ahead of time and had a patio seating. it was quite busy for a monday morning, something i wasn't expecting. the patio can be disturbing sometimes especially with crowds of high schoolers/ students walking by after class. server was super attentive and refilled our hot sauce quickly, even though she was in charge of tables inside and outside read more

My sweets found this place and yes, it was a good pick. This place was a cool vibe with the artwork inside and cool seating throughout. We were seated right away which was a plus. I did peak at reviews and photos before coming so I kind of had an idea of what I wanted. I was so happy with my pick. Service was good and friendly. The food came out in a good time and it was piping hot. One thing I can say about the food in Toronto is that it is always hot and fresh lol. Loved the breaded chicken, light batter. Very tasty and complements the waffle perfectly. The waffle was not too dense and not too light, it was just right. Easy to cut into to get the perfect bite of waffle to chicken ratio. Got to try the famous syrup, it was not all that for me. I could have used a little more syrup and or the spicy sauce they added but it was still good with the amount I got. The presentation was nicely put together. They definitely have other dishes on the menu I would be down to try. I would visit if you're looking for a good breakfast/brunch spot. Plus they have specials on the mimosas. read more

Went here based on an online recommendation that had it listed as a great brunch spot with my husband and friends. We made a reservation for the weekend for brunch. One of the big pulls to the restaurant was that it has a lot of gluten free options! I had the eggs Benedict with salmon named charlotte on the menu. It came with a side of mixed salad and potatoes. Overall it was ok - nothing spectacular. The salmon and Benny sauce were both bland. The potatoes were covered in ketchup which was not something that not everyone could enjoy as well. My husband had an omelette which was once again underwhelming. I left feeling surprised that this restaurant actually made it to a recommended brunch spot list actually because it is not somewhere that I could see myself wanting to go again. In other positive news, the service was great and the ambiance was interesting - lots of dark coloured decor and tall pub style seating which gave us space and privacy to spend time together. read more

From what I can tell, this is a Toronto institution, with people who've since moved away telling me that they missed this place so it's with a bit of contrarianism that I say that I wasn't enormously impressed? I've had better poached eggs elsewhere, although it's possible it's not their fault and I just don't like hollandaise sauce. The potatoes were semi-crispy and seasoned... distinctly, though not with a flavour I could identify. Such a well-known restaurant deserves a second chance, and the various chicken and waffles options look delicious. But this is my opinion for the moment. read more

Oh man this chicken and waffles was unreal ! I came in a large group of 10 and we were so happy to get a reservation for brunch over a long weekend. The staff were very friendly and managed to check in frequently. The food came out in a reasonable time and my party mostly ordered eggs benedict and the chicken and waffles (halal). The chicken and waffles was a significant dish and I can see why! The hot and spicy syrup was perfect, my only critique is I had to order more at a price. The potatoes were also amazing and seasoned so well. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

We were a large party for brunch and we were not disappointed. The service was excellent and we were well taken care of. The food was good and I think we pretty much ordered everything on the menu and we were not disappointed. My only comments for future enhancement is that coffee can be a bit stronger. It was good coffee but I need more caffeine. Lastly, easy on the potatoes, too many potatoes, I don't think any of us finished them. Overall, a great place for brunch. read more

I've been here a few times, twice for brunch and once for dinner. Has to be one of my favorite brunch spots! The most recent time, I got the French toast and a side of potatoes. Came here during the week for brunch. We were lucky enough to score one of the seats outside. I had the grilled cheese with home fries and salad. The grilled cheese was delicious and really big. The salad was flavourful and fresh and the home fries were amazing. Most home fries are just okay. These were the perfect amount of crispy and fluffy and I liked the sauce they toss them in. It tasted like a homemade ketchup or BBQ sauce - two things I don't even really like that much, but I really liked theirs! Good service, good variety of mimosas too! read more

Brunch hour? Say less!! Citrus-spiked french toast and Lorraine Benedict are on the plate. We had a fantastic time! I must say, the location is stunning. I like how they have plants on the wall and fairy lights hanging from the ceiling. The restroom was luxurious, making me feel especially special. My french toast was light, fluffy, and delicious. It was interesting to discover a tinge of citrus flavour, but it blended in nicely. I was blown away; the experience was incredible! Our waiter was incredibly friendly and accommodating. It's pretty crowded, as this is presumably a popular brunch spot in downtown Toronto. Otherwise, it was an enjoyment to come here. read more

Amazing food! Great service! I had brunch during the week with a friend and there was no line up or wait!

I had a great time at Insomnia. Came here for the first time last weekend for brunch and was not disappointed. I heard this place get very crowded, but my group arrived pretty early (around 11:30am to be exact. As soon as you walk in ya can feel the great atmosphere. Light chatter, smiles on faces, and the cheery attitude that everyone had. The food was equally as good. The Heaven on Earth was delectable. The fresh berries really brought the whole thing together. I also have to point out that whatever is in that "special sauce" on the potatoes is addicting. Hint of spice I could not identify. This place also has a wide selection of drink and mimosa flavors. I might have had 5 to go with the meal, and they put me in a great place. Lastly the service was great. It did get a little crowded by 12 so hats off to the waiting staff for creating a great environment for fun, and conversation. read more

Judging from the line and the incredible wait time, I figured that this would be a better experience. We got to the restaurant around 1pm and had about a 40 minute. There was a break in the rain, so we were able to pop in and out of some establishments on the street while we waited, no biggie. I liked the lounge atmosphere in the back, but the seating was awfully uncomfortable. My friend to the left was slumped back into a couch, my friend to the right was higher up than both of us in her chair, and I had to lean forward because my chair had a lean to it. If I had a choice we would have sat in the traditionally dining area near the front. I ordered the 3 Egg Omelette + bacon. The majority of it contained onions and mushrooms that didn't mix well with the egg so the inside had a soggy texture. I did enjoy the mimosas and potatoes that came pre-tossed in a tomato sauce. read more

Went for brunch here today and the food was okay but there was little transparency with the costs. I asked to substitute jalapeños for mushrooms and the waitress said she could do it. However, when i got the bill, it was an up charge for the jalapeños. Then I added the andouille sausage to my omelette which said +$3 on the menu. She recommended it on the side so i said sure unknowing it was an $8 charge. There was a $1.50 charge for the gluten free bread but I knew about that charge only because I directly asked how much extra it would be. I would have appreciated if the waitress was more upfront with the up-charges since it was more than $10 in unexpected charges. As for the food, the sausage was decent but my omelette was cold and the potatoes were bland (granted, I opted out for their sauce because I do not care for ketchup). read more

I love exploring Toronto Restaurants. I mainly chose to come here because when I checked the menu online, I was happy to see that there was a vegan option available. When you first enter it is very narrow and looks small but it actually goes quite far back. We came here on a Saturday around 11 and I highly recommend reservations because it can get quote packed. We were seated at a coffee table like setting on sofa chairs but it was actually quite comfortable. As a vegan it's very hard to find vegan options for breakfast so I knew I had to order their tofu rancheros. It was served with guac and their fried potatoes on the side. The tofu rancheros was actually curried but it was delicious and went well with the fried tortillas. I also highly recommend asking them for a side of hot sauce- it goes so well with the dish. read more

Came for a friend's birthday, and I thought it was unique, considering downtown, that such a quaint and homey restaurant was capable of sitting a party of 15+. However, this was the only positive of my experience here. I got the small mixed greens & root vegetables salad, which was lacklustre in taste. There was no dressing, and I tasted only 2 pieces of butternut squash. It was not filling at all, and consisted of mainly only salad leaves. My friends got the Insomnia burger and it was a tiny burger that did not even come with a side! Considering the price of the burger ($14), I think it should be customary to include a side. Other than the limited quantity and low quality of food, the service was horrible; our waitress was so rude! We thought it might be because of the fact that tip is automatically added onto the bill of a large party, as we saw her have a friendlier demeanour with other tables. Verdict: Will not be coming back here for food. Better off to try other places in Koreatown, you'll definitely have a better experience. read more
