I beliv they are running a Ponzi scheme of a company, or at least that is what it appears to be with the amount of work they are getting done around here. It seems like they used our money to get their bigger clients' jobs done and not our job. The amount of work they have finish in the past five months could have been done in 4 or 5 weeks. There have not shown up to work for muliple weeks, and when the do show up it is one or two days and they only get one thing done. Don't fall for the "you need to pay us money at differen phases" and then they don't show up. They claim this doesn't usually happen but they are NOT doing anything to get things done any faster. They continue to tell us someone is coming to do such and such work and NOBODY shows up.

With the exception of the shower glass, bathroom mirror and stone, all workers were employed by Mahogany Builders. I purchased a second home in Chicago that needed an overhaul and wanted to find a contractor that…read morehad a high standard of work, was attentive, and had competitive pricing. I also needed someone to procure materials and project manage as I live 2K miles away. After searching for a couple of months and being frustrated by no callbacks and outrageous quotes I contacted VRC Management and couldn't be happier that I did. Jozef and his team were extremely attentive throughout the entire process, completed the work in a very reasonable time frame, and had competitive rates. Jozef even walked me through a couple of additional items that made a huge difference in the remodel including painting the cabinets instead of replacing (I don't know how they did it but they turned out perfectly), moving a cabinet for better sight lines, making a waterfall edge to update the counter, and putting a light in the newly installed stand up shower in the bathroom. All of the work is extremely high quality including some of the best tile work I have seen (and there was a lot of it). In the end I have an entirely new bathroom and kitchen in a place that now feels brand new. Thanks to Jozef and the entire VRC team!

Top of the line personal designer and service, he knows his stuff and is a good guy (most GC's no one ever trusts). I highly recommend VRC, not only their work is impeccable, but they are good honest people and will make sure you are 100% satisfied with the work or they will fix it! Danny, Jozefs number 2 guy always is available when needed and will smooth out any complications that may arise. I really appreciate this company and them putting my home back together in its new improved state! Thank you guys!

Inviting strangers into your house to make a lot of dust and noise can be stressful, but the whole crew was very nice and trustworthy which alleviates a lot of stress. Hiring AC as our contractor for 2 bathrooms, demo, framing/finishing, floor refinishing, plumbing, electrical, tile, project management, and CAD and cleanup restoration was a great value. We're happy with the results and feel great. AC made lots of suggestions we hadn't considered which turned out to be very helpful. At the same time they consulted with us and digested our direction very well. The BUILDERtrend app was also a great way to communicate during construction. To all those considering, I think you can be confident in their professionalism, craftsmanship and responsiveness. Good luck!

Arete Renovators was completely wonderful to work with. You hear a lot of horror stories about…read moreChicago contractors, and I can say with 100% certainty that working with Arete is the exact OPPOSITE of those horror stories. My contractor, Ned, and his team saved my sanity this year, as my initial bathroom remodel turned into a bathroom remodel PLUS gut rehab of the kitchen due to a flood in my high-rise building. More details below, but the tl;dr version is the Arete team, led by Ned, was easy to communicate with; had great systems in place for keeping track of everything that was going on; deftly navigated the challenges of working in my high-rise condo while a major riser project was under way at the same time; and gave me a fantastic finished product in exactly the time frame they had promised. I honestly cannot recommend them highly enough. I initially hired Arete just to update my small bathroom in my 1-bed, 1-bath condo in a high-rise. From the minute I met Ned, I knew he listened to me, understood what I wanted and knew which questions to ask to make sure the end result was exactly what I was hoping for. Arete's initial estimate came in a little higher than the other companies I got estimates from, but I had a good feeling about their systems and their great communication, and I am SO GLAD I went with them. When the Arete team came out for the initial walk-through of the bathroom after I hired them, Arete's owner was with them. While he was in my unit, he noticed a significant amount of damage in the kitchen from a flood a few weeks earlier, damage that had been completely missed by a vendor sent out by my insurance company. He encouraged me to contact the insurance company again and request the proper insurance vendors come out on site to investigate. Those investigators eventually discovered a huge amount of water damage and mold behind the walls, which necessitated a gut demo of the kitchen. If the Arete team had not noticed the telltale signs of this damage, I would have never known to push back on the insurance company for additional services, and I would have been living in an unsafe environment as a result. Then, when the insurance vendors gave me the runaround and claimed they couldn't rebuild the walls in my unit for at least three months, Arete agreed to step in and complete the work, and it was done within a week. Then they helped me upgrade my countertops as well. At the same time, they were diligently completing the bathroom remodel (the initial reason I hired them). Throughout that process, they effectively communicated the timeline, contacted me with any hiccups, made sure they got approval for any changes, talked me through the choices, handled all the logistics without my having to do anything (they even picked up some of the the supplies I ordered and stored them for me until they were needed!). They were just generally fantastic to work with. They finished the bathroom in the 5-week timeline they had initially anticipated in their estimate to me. I am SO happy with how the bathroom turned out. Their work was impeccable. So, so grateful for Arete, and for my beautiful new kitchen and bathroom!
