It's been almost 2 years, people.. I was way overdue for my eye appointment AND overdue in updating this review, so let's do it. My husband (Jon) and I recently both went to see Dr. Hanson and had great experiences. It was Jon's first visit and my 3rd or 4th, I believe. I really enjoy going here because the staff is so kind and easy going, the office is sparkling clean, spacious, calm, and quiet, you get in and out pretty quickly, and Dr. Hanson is sweet and honestly informative. I always learn so much about my eyeballs each visit (do the 3D picture thing of your eyes) and then go tell everyone about it. I never thought I'd really like going to the eye doctor, but I do actually enjoy coming here. It's relaxing! Insight Vision takes lots of different insurances, so give them a call. They've very professional but at the same time casual -- it's never a stressful process to connect with them, whether you're a brand new patient or a regular. They make it easy for everyone, and you can fill out forms online or print them out ahead of time if you want. Jon and I both left happy with updated prescriptions, and I walked out with new contacts in hand. I also tried on several pairs of glasses in the waiting room that I thought looked rad, so I might be going back sooner than anticipated for some new frames! read more

Just like Matt (see review below from 2013) I experienced a very poor and dishonest customer experience. Here's the story: I have Superior Vision of TX. The plan provides exam coverage for BOTH glasses and contacts. After that I choose EITHER a contact lens or glasses benefit ($150 off). When I made my appointment the office staff said I was fully covered, all good, see you Friday. Awesome. I show up and they tell me that my EXAM coverage is restricted to EITHER glasses exam or contacts---not both. Instead of $40 (my copay for both) that I would have to pay $105 (15 for the glasses copay and 90 for contacts exam). Hmmm, that's a lie---but I really want my exam. So I say, "fine, I'll just do the contacts exam for the $20 copay." She then tells me that if I do the contacts exam, that I HAVE to buy contacts from THEM! "And why is that?", I ask calmly. She swears that this is the way the insurance works, that it isn't their fault, and they don't have a choice. I call the insurance and guess what I find out? That's NOT how the insurance works, people have the freedom to choose how AND where they use their benefits. I even put the office on the phone with my insurance who explained this to them AND THEY STILL REFUSED! One thing is to be dishonest with me about my exam benefits, but entirely another is to try to TRAP me into thinking I have to buy from them. YOU have the freedom to decide, don't fall for this SCAM. Shame that this happens, surely on a daily basis. Lies and deceit, covered by smiles and polos. That was my experience. read more

I'm the kind of person that likes to thoroughly learn about products before I buy them and research all my options. I visited several optometrists to fill my reading glasses prescription who were very professional and competitively priced, but Insight won my business right away. I met with Roger, who was obviously extremely knowledgeable in every aspect of corrective lenses, including the available materials, coatings, and surfacing options. I appreciate technical information over sales jargon, and he delivered that in depth. He also said that Insight is one of only a handful of optometrists in the country that are able to use an anti-reflective coating made by Seiko that is comparable to Crizal (something I was specifically looking for), but at a lower price, which was great. Bottom line, I made it out the door with a product I feel is identical or superior to what I had been quoted for elsewhere, and at about $30 cheaper -- and that's with bringing in my own frames! I recently ordered my glasses from Insight Vision. These are progressive bifocals. I was leery because I have gotten 2 other pairs in previous years from a different eye doctor and hated them! These were perfect! I did not have to get used to them, right from the start they were simply easy to use, no period necessary to acclimate to these at all! I wear them all the time and I can see great! I'm so happy I went with Insight Vision for my new progressive lenses! My glasses last year, I had insisted on getting a pair for reading and a separate pair for distance from Insight Vision because I had wasted hundreds of dollars on progressive lenses at another office. I could not get used to them. Dr Hanson suggested I give his team a try at getting me a pair of progressive lenses that would work for me. I'm so happy that these work well and I no longer have to have to change my eyeglasses to read and drive. read more

First off: my exam was thorough and pleasant. That's a good thing, but really, it is (and should be) the standard minimum criteria. The reason I dislike this place is their bias against consumers choosing to purchase their frames and lenses offsite. Here's a schedule of fees that was given to me AFTER my exam... Additional copy of prescription (if you lost your original): $15 Single Vision - P.D. Optical Center measurement: $50 (A measurement is required for ordering online and involves looking through a device similar to binoculars and takes less than 30 seconds) Flat Top - multifocal - P.D. -Seg Heights: $75 Progressive - multifocal - Mono P.D. - Seg. Heights: $100 "Prescription verification:" starts at $30 With previous optometrists, I was provided this information without additional expense, and assumed it was the standard of care. If you typically purchase your eyewear and contacts from your OD's office you will probably enjoy your experience. However, if you have come to expect more freedom of choice, this is probably not the place for you. I wish I had known ahead of time. read more

If this is how you respond to a long-time and now dissatisfied customer who had the courtesy to share concerns with you about the way she was treated by your office staff, I can only conclude that you agree with this treatment. My goal in writing my Feb.1 letter was to make you aware of the events that had transpired with Roger Spillman over the last few weeks and to let you know that your patients perceive your front man to be untruthful; my goal was not to ask for money. I asked in the letter only for a phone call (twice), which I have still not received. [For the record, I had also left a message with your office early in this scenario for a call back from you to ask your advice about the problem I was having with the new Acuvue Advance Plus lenses, but you did not return my call then either.] Will you not return a simple phone call to a loyal customer of 15+ years? Your letter stated that the first check enclosed was for the 2 boxes of lenses that I had marked on. Had you read my Feb. 1 letter thoroughly, you would know that I am able to return those boxes to Johnson & Johnson through the Acuvue Money Back Guarantee program. If, in fact, this check is for the unopened and unmarked boxes that J&J believes should have been accepted as returned to you and that you now appear to agree should be refunded, then the check is inadequate, given that Roger required additional payment before he would reverse the insurance authorization. Please call me to discuss. (FOURTH request for a personal conversation). You said in your letter, "If I'm unhappy with a merchant or service I just move on and don't go back." Well, if I'm unhappy with a merchant or service I care about, I will often make the effort to repair the relationship to make things better going forward, and, as Director of Sales Operations & Customer Support at my workplace, I am genuinely grateful for the opportunity to do the same when our customers express concerns. The eye exam was great, very thorough. We ran into issues with their office not wanting to assist us with our contact evaluation. We have vision insurance through Metlife who contracts with VSP and apparently, the vouchers that VSP provides online doesn't have all the information that reflects on the Metlife site. Our contact evaluation was fully covered, yet the VSP site didn't show that. After having VSP contact their office and verbally confirmed our coverage as we were telling them, they still refused to provide services. I called the following business day to see exactly what they needed in order for us to get our services completed at the same location rather than finding a new office. I had an explanation of benefits that I was able to send over. After speaking to Roger, I felt completely attacked. Not only did he lie about VSP not advising them of our coverage, he refused to offer us services considering he is a VSP provider and he called me a *F-ing cunt. After being hung up on, I reached out to VSP to discuss the phone call and refusal of services. They attempted to reach out to speak with Dr Hanson's office, only to be turned away and not wanting to discuss the phone call. I don't know why any Provider would be so unprofessional. Could be the fact that we were were a black couple... I'll never know. I do know that I wouldn't refer anyone to this office. They will try to sell you over priced frames. Our vision plans allots for $100 allowance on frames with an additional 20% off the amount over that. Our single vision lenses are fully covered and others are discounted. My husband and I selected basic black plastic frames (no brand) that go for $99 at other eye-wear vendors... after they guy figured out the cost, we were looking at $353/$216 after insurance was applied. I'm still trying to figure out exactly how the cost was determined. Considering they don't put a price tag on their frames, I'm sure they've overcharged many patients for frames/lenses. read more

I was very happy with the service given my elderly mother recently at Dr Hanson's office. She is in a wheel chair, has cataracts and many other eye problems, and the staff gave her a lot of TLC. Filling out the forms was difficult for us, and one of the girls filled it out for us. The exam was thourough and Dr Hanson, did get her seeing better. The optical part of the office was great, helping get mom in a light weight frame since her nose is so fragile. I was happy with what we paid. They had her glasses the next day. They took care of all the insurance work. I only wish they were open in the evening so I wouldn't have to leave work early to get the glasses. Overall, am very pleased read more

Extremely expensive place for frames $500-$2k?!?! . Doctor also seems like he's bi-polar, but off his meds. I saw him yell at some of his employees who apparently were "still in training" over very small things, more than once while I was there. My daughter and I started seeing Dr. Hanson last year. Our experience as adults at this office was acceptable, however my 6 year old niece did not have such a favorable experience. This doctor may be better suited for grown ups, not children. Wish I had known this fact as I would never have recommended him to my sister. It was an overall epic failure for which I felt terrible about. Due to this fact we will be switching our business elsewhere as well. read more
