Living Social had a deal where you would pay $100 for a personal chef from Insatiable Bites to come to your home and prepare a 3 course meal for 2 people that included wine. I thought, gee, this sounds pretty awesome, let me give it a whirl. The personal chef, in this case it was the owner Rakita, comes to your home with her own ingredients/food and prepares the entire meal for you. They do use your pots/pans and cooking utensils. The only thing they require of you is a working stove and oven, other than that, you can sit back and relax and have them cook and CLEAN UP for you. Yes, you read that correctly, they even wash the dishes and clean up after preparing the meal. They serve you the wine and all of your courses, so you literally can sit back and relax. Who's the genius that thought of this idea because I can truly get used to this!!!! I was able to choose my menu from her various selections of a prefix menu. I decided on the "Southern/Cajun Influenced" dinner. This included: Appetizers - Deviled Eggs Main Course: Smothered Chicken with Braised Collard Greens and Seasoned Potatoes Dessert: Signature Pound Cake. Everything was delicious! Granted a few issues occured with the potatoes and chicken not being cooked thoroughly, but Rakita promptly corrected the issue. The portions were plenty for 2 people to devour. I would've loved bigger slices of cake (it was jammin' on the one) but I'm a little on the greedy side when it comes to delicious desserts, so what would you expect from me! If you plan on booking this catering company for an occasion, you must BOOK EARLY! Weekends are understandably their busiest time, but if you plan well in advance I'm sure they will be able to accommodate your schedule. Also, after you do book your catering experience, make sure you request a confirmation/reminder email from the staff because I experienced some confusion on the date of my dinner. Keep in mind that they serve Hyattsville and surrounding areas. Check with IB to make sure they serve your area. They not only cater romantic dinners for 2 like I requested, but they also cater private events/celebrations, teach culinary demonstrations and wine/food pairings. IB also has gift certificates available. All and all I enjoyed my personal chef experience. Rakita was a very friendly, professional and down to earth person, who just so happens to be able to cook her tail off! Chef Rakita was wonderful! She arrived on time and was very professional. We learned how to make muffins which went along with our diet and she tailored the meal to fit our diet as well. I attending a tasting for Insatiable Bites and as soon as I tried the curried lamb (prepared by Chef Nina B), I knew I had to write a review about it. It is incredible--just the right amount of spice, a hint of coconut oil, and soft, moist pieces of lamb. I devoured every bite. The only disappointing thing about the meal was that I had to share it with everyone else at the event and thus was not able to eat more of it. Great idea but a no show. I bought a voucher through amazon local in May. I conversed with Rakita through email and phone calls to set up the cooking class for my anniversary. Well the day came and I did not hear from Insatiable Bites. Nothing like turning a planned romantic dinner and cooking lesson into a takeout Chinese evening. Total fail. Bought the Living Social deal back in April. After several attempts, set a date for July - I guess they are busy! As the week approached I heard nothing from them, and we had something unexpected come up that weekend and I completely forgot- then later realized that the date had come and gone. Rescheduled for September for a birthday celebration. I had booked the babysitter, opened champagne, set the table with china, when at the appointed hour I get a call that my chef has a flat tire, and my options are to refund or reschedule for another day. I purchased the Yelp deal as a gift for my wife and this was one of the best gifts I have ever given. Rakita arrived on time and was extremely friendly. She asked for a quick tour of the kitchen and then got started cooking. We had selected a menu which met our dietary needs, personally I could not have carbohydrates. She adjusted the menu to meet these needs and provided an excellent meal, complete with wine and dessert. She prepared sauces because I like spicy foods but my wife does not so we could adjust the spice based on our picky eating habits. The meal was beautiful - colorful and presented well. The wine was excellent and the dessert was amazing. She even cleaned up afterwards. After a long day of work, my wife and I can say we would definitely recommend Insatiable Bites and it was certainly a treat. I would do it again in a heartbeat. read more

I got the Romantic Dinner for Two option from Insatiable Bites as a LivingSocial deal for my wife's birthday. Bottom line - I wouldn't pay the $280 list price for this, but I'm the kind of person who cringes when the bill on a dinner for two hits triple digits, so don't take that as a measure of the service provided. The chef was excellent and if I ever find myself needing catering for an event in the area, I would seriously consider and definitely recommend Insatiable Bites. Some details - We had Chef Rakita Lillard herself, the founder. I don't know now if there are any other chefs, but I mention this because the confirmation e-mail I got just said that "my chef" would arrive at a certain time. I took that to mean that there were multiple chefs and that whomever was available would come (it was a Saturday evening, so I was not put off by this). Chef Rakita is a lovely woman, professional and friendly and exactly as talkative as you would like her to be. The food was delicious. There are a few pre-set menus that you can pick from for the option I purchased, and we went with the Italian menu, which at the time was a starter of fried mozzarella, a Caesar salad, chicken picatta, and a sorbet. The ingredients were good quality, not leftovers, restaurant rejects, or freezer fare (...except the sorbet, which is supposed to be frozen). The courses came out as courses, and Chef Rakita clearly has the timing on these menus down to a science (which I'm sure is part of the point of having pre-set menus). The portions were perfect for two, and at the end I was definitely satisfied but not overstuffed. The chef cleaned up afterwards, which I would certainly expect at $280 but felt was a nice bonus at the price I paid. It was two people and pre-set, so not that much to clean up, but still nice to not have to worry about it, especially since the dinner comes with a bottle of wine. I recently hired Insatiable Bites to do a cooking demonstration for my sister's bridal shower. It was amazing. Chef Rakita arrived on-time and she presented a very clear and interactive session for a room of about 35-40 ladies. Everyone was engaged the entire time. Chef made shrimp and crab beignets with dipping sauce for everyone to taste. Since this was a kitchen themed party with a cajun flair, this was the perfect choice. Everyone raved about how good the beignets were and some tried to go for seconds and thirds! Following the demonstration, Chef Rakita cleaned up all of her materials and provided us all with recipe cards to try the beignets on our own. It was a big hit. I would recommend Insatiable Bites to anyone who is looking for a unique and tasty way to please a food loving crowd. People are still talking about what a great time we had. Received a living social deal as a gift. Contacted Rakita 4 months prior to expiration to redeem the gift certificate. She does not respond promptly to emails and after several back and forth emails, finally got the first available time slot, which was not until 6 weeks later. I contacted her a few days before to confirm the appointment, only to receive an email saying that the value of the certificate had expired, and that I would need to pay the difference??? I informed her that I had booked weeks before the certificate expired and that she did not have an opening prior to the certificate's expiration date. I also reminded her that I first contacted her months ago. I did not want to waste any more of my life trying to deal with her and asked for a refund, which she refused. Buyer beware! read more

I received a voucher for my birthday. I contacted insatiablebites to schedule a date for them to come out and prepare a three course dinner for two that included desert and a bottle of wine. I had to cancel the first date I scheduled. We agreed upon another date and they did not show up, I sent yet another email to rescheduled for a third time. My request was to have them drop off the meal since I have used a personal Chef before I didn't think it was an unusual request. Most of the food they bring is usually already prepared with the exception of any sauces. I also provided my phone number several times in email exchanges to discuss my request but no one ever contacted me. The owner (Rakita) arrived with a a Wegmans bag with a few items in it. I did not get the meal I selected nor the wine and the desert was small frozen containers I believed also purchased from Wegmans. I would not recommend them they are unprofessional and will not follow through on the $100 vouchers that people are purchasing. read more

yeah tried the dinner for two via a gift coupon by a friend. cannot deny I was a little apprehensive about the whole thing and was feeling strange when my husband and I dressed up for the occasion and came down to our dining room waiting for the chef. but once the evening started, I loved it.
