I'm a relatively new patient to Dr. Catalano. Upon my first visit, I was mightily impressed with the office. The space itself is meticulously clean and filled with tech that I have not seen at other dentist offices. Dr. Catalano read my x-rays and despite the fact that I'm not experiencing any symptoms, delivered all kinds of bad news including that SIX crowns were merited. She put together a treatment plan that included seeing an endodontist and then returning to start into my issues - primarily decay under existing crowns. The plan was wisely prioritized and planned out to most effectively use my insurance benefits. The office also indicated that they would work with me regarding payment. The office is very modern, and Stephanie at the front desk greeted me by name and had all of my paperwork ready. Everyone was very welcoming and caring on my first visit for my first deep cleaning and several fillings on the same day. The hygienist Emily was great! I have been a patient of Dr. Catalano for many years. Let me preface this review by saying that I think Dr. Catalano is a fine dentist. I wouldn't have driven all the way from Henderson, across town for years if I didn't think so. With that said, a lot has changed there since covid. The office staff has completely changed, not for the better. My recent experience has left me considerably displeased. I'm what you might consider a frequent flier at the dentist. My mouth has a waiting list. My most recent crown was about 7 months ago. It didn't take long after the crown for me to start feeling some discomfort around that side of my mouth. Eventually it got to the point where it became unbearably sensitive to hot and cold, pressure, etc. I returned to the Dr, who sent me off to Dr, Fife, a fine endodontist who performed a root canal, put in a temporary filling and sent me back to Dr. Catalano for a permanent one. This is where the Dr. and I disagree. My 10 minute filling today cost me $210. A filling which I believe should not have had to be done in the first place. She should have sent me for a root canal prior to placing the crown. Unfortunately, she did not, and I had to have a root canal through the crown. I'm sure it was probably a tough call at the time and I certainly don't fault the Dr. for trying to save me a root canal. But it didn't work, and I ended up having to have the root canal anyway. Despite my obvious displeasure at the fact that I was being charged for this filling, the Dr. took no interest in attempting to mitigate my concerns, the concerns of a long term patient. I'm not sure that this is something I can forgive. Backing up just a little bit, The office staff frequently get your procedure scheduled wrong. Even as recent as this appointment the receptionist tried to schedule me for a new crown, I had to argue that it was just a filling and not a crown. This is not an uncommon occurrence. When I arrived today, they were short staffed and the individual who greeted me didn't even know if I had insurance or not. This is not the first time that has happened either. They often fail to check if you have insurance, or how much insurance you have left. Honestly, had I known that I was going to be charged for this visit, I probably would have gone to see another dentist just on principal. Sometimes a warm smile through the face mask, a giggle and a laugh just aren't enough to change the fact that I feel like I got screwed. read more
