George (technician) arrived timely and was very thorough. He explained things to me every step of the way. He is approaching this very methodically - ok, so it's not the igniter, let's look at the next link in the chain... I saw George called out by name in other Yelp reviews, and I understand why he comes so highly recommended! He called the manufacturer to discuss his findings, but the manufacturer tech team wasn't available. He let me know he would be calling them again in the morning and that he would reach out to me with an update. I've had plenty of negative or so-so experiences with other service technicians from other companies. This experience with George / Astera is so positive that I'm posting my review even before the service is completed. All he did was guess and said a lot of maybe this or maybe that. He even had problems using his volt meter and actually bent his needles and had to replace them. He couldn't get a good reading because he couldn't get the positive needle (red) in the volt meter and he did it twice/three times. Then he proceeded to disengage the pipe inside the furnace to shut the unit down, which then caused another code to appear. After that, he then expressed that maybe the exhaust/fresh air pipes going outside were clogged or that the installation was mis-aligned (after 4 years)! After an hour of guessing and coming up blank, he then said "well it's the blower motor and maybe the power switch or the pipes to the outside." I asked if he had the motor or the switch on the truck and he said it would have to be ordered, would probably get Tuesday and could install Wednesday and I would receive a call. I expressed my concern because of the cold and the frequency of the furnace going on and off and I was told to just turn it off at the main power switch for a minute and it would reset and work fine. I waited 3 wekes for a phone call not two days. I contacted the company Owner, Kevin Budinger and received no response. They ripped me off for $115! I purchased this furnace from this company, so I'm not just a new customer.

A bad review is the last course of action. In November, they came out as our furnace was not working. The tech almost immediately diagnosed the problem as a cracked heat exchanger. He misquoted the age of our system and recommended replacing it for $13,900. Got a second opinion, who fixed the furnace for $800. The heat exchanger was fine. The problem was the board, which Five Star had replaced a few years back. Do not trust this company. We now wonder if other repairs they have done were overpriced or even necessary. We had been loyal customers for years. No more.

The company then quoted me $2200 as the cost to replace it and reiterated that this did not include the $99 that they already charged me. So yes, had I gone with that company, it would have cost me $2300. Armed with this information, I posted pictures and exactly what the "diagnosis" said and asked for emailed quotes...to be clear I said EMAIL only. I then got no less than 10 phone calls saying "please give us a call so we can talk about your situation. Some called more than once. Lakeland Heating and Cooling (Jason) was nothing like that... $1270 flat rate to replace the water heater. Yes, thats how he replied in his email.. as I requested. He came in.. with the water heater... replaced it... and went on his way. Other companies, that followed directions, also came in higher than $2000. I am EXTREMELY satisfied with Jason and Lakeland! High Quality, Tremendous VALUE
