This was an unexpectedly excellent place to stay. We expected a typical inn and instead we got huge rooms with claw foot bathtubs, double showers, king beds, couches and chairs, all decorated beautifully. The owners are new, but definitely have the hang of making guests feel welcome and comfortable. Penny and Dan were outstanding hosts for our New Years Eve murder mystery visit. From the moment we met them they declared that while there we were "family" and they treated us as such. The Room we stayed in (Princess Alice) was clean and comfortable and quite inviting. Both Penny and Dan worked so hard at preparing meals and at facilitating the evening of the murder mystery - and an earlier scavenger hunt. The only negative associated with our visit was that we had to leave! We wanted to stay even longer but we had to return to the "real world". We thoroughly enjoyed our all too short escape and figuring out who the mystery murderer was (for which we received a prize). Hubby and I booked our rooms at the Inn Victoria at the recommendation of Katie J. and we loved it! Penny and Dan were the most gracious hosts, and Rachel (their daughter) and Jess were great as well! The Inn was fully booked our first night, so Hubby and I stayed in the Princess Beatrice, which was small, but still cozy. Our second night we were able to be moved to the Princess Helena which was AWESOME. It's been newly renovated and his a king sized sleigh bed, a huge claw footed tub in the room (you can watch tv while soaking!) and a double headed shower in the bathroom. The room shares a private deck and jacuzzi with the room next door (Prince Alfred). On the weekends, they serve a complimentary high tea at 3pm (or $20 if you're not staying there). However, since we weren't able to make it until later, Penny and Dan actually moved the tea to 4pm just to accommodate us! You get to pick your own tea cup out of their cabinet and then seat yourself at one of the three dining room tables. Our tea caddy came stocked with mini cucumber sandwiches, mini quiches, bruschetta, various scones with clotted cream, a maple cheesecake, pumpkin pie, and fresh fruit. SO GOOD. In addition, you get an extensive tea menu where you can pick your own tea and they bring you your own personal pot - complete with pot warmer so your tea doesn't get cold! (My favorite was the "black gold" tea!) Our first evening there, we hung out in the communal living room (all decked out with Christmas tree and decorations!) with other friends and had a game night. It was so cozy curling up with a hot cup of cocoa (or coffee/tea - they have a keurig machine) and some pastries/fruit. You can just help yourself and don't have to worry about bothering Penny and Dan, as they have their own private living room elsewhere! They even provide some blackberry brandy to help yourself to a nightcap, or if you prefer, there are bottles of wine (they just ask you to replace the bottle before you leave.) Our first morning's breakfast was delicious: pumpkin muffins, poached pears with homemade cream, and eggs benedict. The next day we feasted on fresh raspberry muffins, baked macintosh apples, and stuffed french toast with ham. It was all so good, accompanied by oj, apple cider, and tea/coffee. To cap off the spectacular weekend we got to go to a nearby Christmas tree farm and chop down our own tree (complimentary gift for staying with them 2 nights). The Inn Victoria is an upscale New England, B&B conveniently located in downtown Chester, Vt. on route 11. A short distance from Interstate 89 if you're interested in a speedy route North to Montreal or South to Concord New Hampshire and Boston and beyond. On the other hand if you head West it connects to the most picturesque, route 100, which is one of the nation's most scenic roads. The owners, I believe, Dan and Penny do a fabulous job decorating there inn, and offer very luxurious & comfortable hospitality. I had trouble leaving. I couldn't stop talking and enjoying late morning conversations with everyone. Their free breakfast is fabulous. There are also many attractions in the area. This is a review for high tea they have on Sundays. I kid you not, we made a reservation and getting someone to answer the phone took almost an entire afternoon, the line was constantly busy. We got there and we were the only reservation they had. Literally, just US. We moved to the deck because it was gorgeous outside but had to go through one of their rooms to get there. It was in between seasons so it was just awkward. Tea was fabulous, plenty of choices and options. Pick your own tea cup and saucer with plenty of options. Tea snacks were plentiful and delicious. Owners were sweet. We'd go back for tea, but not likely to stay there. A little too hole-in-the-wall for us. read more

Spent the night here last weekend for my bfs 40th birthday getaway. Such a beautiful inn with the nicest most welcoming owners. Coffee is always available, if you need tea they've got you covered, every kind possible. Our room was perfect! I was unaware that we happened to be in a room that has access to the hot tub out on the porch, next time I'll bring a bathing suit. I did however turn on fireplace and take a long hot bath in the tub. King size bed with luxurious sheets.... heavenly. When we returned from dinner people were sitting in the living room enjoying wine, just a real homey feel and I loved it. Unfortunately we missed breakfast (we are not morning people and why rush to get out of that bed?!) as we were leaving Penny did offered us muffins but we were on our way to breakfast so passed on them. Location is perfect; close to some great breweries and ski resorts. I just love VT, I'm sure we will return! Thank you for the perfect stay. P.s. I cannot say enough about this utterly charming Victorian B & B, with its quaint but luxurious rooms. Owner Penny was so accommodating. We had a family reunion for 12 in her parlor, where she baked us delicious, homemade lasagna for high tea, along with fresh cookies and other goodies. What a joy! read more

By far the best B&B I have been to. I literally left broken hearted, as I did not want to leave the B&B, the innkeepers or VT. Penny, Dan & Jessica are truly some of the nicest people you will encounter during your stay in VT. You have no choice but to stay at the Inn Victoria, as it truly is a top-notch establishment. We booked the Princess Beatrice room because we were on a budget. The room was very cute and cozy with a half a wall separating it from the bathroom. It was an adjustment at first to be so open with my husband, but hey, we are in it for the long run, and we made it through just fine. The bed was probably the MOST comfortable bed I have ever slept in my entire life. The feather pillow topper and amazingly fluffy pillows and 1,500 thread count sheets will make waking up in the morning one of the most difficult things you will have to do while on vacation, but the breakfast makes up for it. Wonderful food, will keep you full well past lunch. And if you are there on a Fri-Sun, you will be full until High Tea Time, which you MUST attend to! Penny makes you feel like a queen! Our first evening in Chester, Dan the "ambassador" gave us an awesome recommendation list on a map, giving us the highlights we'd want to check out whilst in the area. We originally booked 2 nights there, but after our first day, we wanted to extend our stay and spoke with Penny about it. She was happy to do that (as the room was free) and when we checked out, she only charged us 50% the room rate! That just about made me tear up. When we left, we told them we'd be back and received genuine hugs from all three. We will definitely return and recommend that you all do too. read more

This place is awesome. Stayed here for 2 nights during my 3 day trip to Vermont and it was the highlight of my trip. Booked the princess Helena room for $199 a night and it was worth every penny. The room was very big and has a king bed and a free standing tub in the room which is great for a relaxing bubble bath. The room has a deck with a hot tub on it and only 2 rooms have access to it. The room also has a large tv with pretty much every channel you can possibly want. There's also excellent wifi. It also has a fireplace which heats the entire room and is super convenient for those cold winters Vermont has. The Inn is run by the friendliest people you will ever meet in your life. Dan, Penny, and Rachel were more than accommodating during our stay. They are more than happy to answer any questions you have and are there to help in any way. Also Dan makes a wonderful breakfast! He made us eggs, bacon, and potatoes with vegetables and it was extremely tasty. Honestly our stay was incredible and the next time I pay a visit to Vermont I will most definitely be staying here! read more

We stayed here for over the Thanksgiving weekend, and after only being there 1 night I told my husband I felt like we were with family. Penny, Dan, Jess, and Rachel were so awesome. A special thank you to Penny who went above and beyond for my husband who has a food allergy. I can't say enough great things about this place. Our room (Prince Albert) was welcoming with a fireplace and awesome jetted bathtub. On the deck outside of the room was a hot tub that we visited every-night (my husbands favorite). A quintessential Vermont experience. This bed and breakfast makes you want to become part of the woodwork. You expect to be greeted by Bob Newhart and see Stephanie, Larry, Daryl, and Daryl. This is not a negative for me, because that show made me want to go to the Stafford Inn . The Host at Inn Victoria are wonderful people, real good conversationalist and will sit and enjoy your company like you are family. The rooms are awesome, clean and comfortable. What a wonderful gem to have found in Vermont. My wife and I had a wonderful stay in the Prince Alfred room. We arrived late due to having to work and then travel from NYC. We were cheerfully greeted by Dan upon arrival and promptly shown our room and explained breakfast time, the wine library, and given a quick tour of our room and how to use the hot tub and fireplace. The wine library was a wonderful feature, if you forget to bring a bottle of wine take 1 from the cabinet and just replace it before you leave. Next time I visit I will definitely bring something from NYC that is hard to find outside the local area. Breakfast was superb, better than any restaurant I have been to. The waffles the first day were so light and fluffy. We will definitely be returning for another visit maybe in the summer or fall , can't wait to return! My new husband and I stayed here for two days after our wedding (for a mini-moon) and it was absolutely perfect. The tea was spectacular (and it takes a lot to impress someone who just came off of a weekend-long wedding), the room was beautiful and just what we needed to decompress after all the wedding energy, and the bed...the bed! We literally bought the sheets they had for our bed at home, they were so soft and delicious. Now, every time we go to bed we think of Inn Victoria and the wonderful time we spent there. Not to mention the staff, who were all so lovely and friendly and accommodating...they made us feel like we were at home, but better, because no home we can afford could look so beautiful! read more

I really enjoyed our stay this past weekend. My wife and I were hear to watch the Vermont state one acts competition. Our school didn't go on to New England's but that didn't diminish our wonderful stay. Our hostess Rachel was wonderful and saw to our every need. We enjoyed high tea on Friday and she was accommodating to our needs as we had car issues and we were able to enjoy high tea later than the scheduled time. The Inn was beautiful and a wonderful place to come back to at night. We were able to do some geocaching in the area and also visited a few breweries as well. Perfect. Exceeded my highest expectations of what a Victorian bed & breakfast would be like. My husband and I capped off an anniversary weekend at the Inn Victoria as we slowly trekked through Vermont on the way home from Montreal. We were greeted by hot tea and pastries upon checking in with Dan and Penny, the Inn Victoria's amazing owners. Their cheerful daughter gave us a quick tour and made us feel right at home in their amazing inn. After checking in, we spent an hour on the front porch engaged in lively conversation with Dan and Penny's local friends and other guests... a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of NYC strangers who rarely speak to each other. Our room was absolutely perfect. Huge king-sized sleigh bed with feather comforters, quite possibly the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. Plush rugs, a bathroom the size of most Manhattan apartments with a giant jacuzzi tub, flat screen tv to watch one of their many dvds, wifi... really an amazing getaway. Before retiring for the evening, they even left a surprise of chocolate covered strawberries in our room. We initially hesitated in staying here because of the price (didn't realize how much B&B's were in general), but it was worth every penny. Hope to return one day soon! read more

Wonderful hosts, great food, and a perfect location: highly recommend a stay at Inn Victoria! Dan, Penny, and Rachel Cotes were so warm and welcoming when my girlfriend and I arrived for a stay over Memorial Day weekend. One of us is vegan and the other vegetarian, but Penny was more than happy to whip us some great food to meet our needs, and she even had some amazing cheescake from DeeLicious Raw. The B&B itself is cozy, comfortable, peaceful, a great place to relax, and displaying many an item related to its namesake. Chester, VT is fairly sleepy, but the two of us are hikers and the town is perfectly situated for accessing the Green Mountain forest area: we had some great hikes there, and only wished we had time for more hikes, swims, and views of local waterfalls (there are enough outdoor attractions to keep you busy for two weeks let alone two days). MacLaomainn's Scottish Pub in Chester is a little gem, and a pint of Wee Heavy is a great way to end the night. Also, lunch at the Garden Cafe in nearby Londonderry was super tasty. Overall, we had a great weekend, and are really grateful to the Cotes for accommodating us; looking forward to coming back again! read more

The Inn Victoria has a very cleverly designed website with award-winning photos and elegant verbiage of the hotel and rooms which we felt did not match up to the real hotel. The exterior is nice enough. But the interior is more like your hoarder grandma's attic. It is stuffed to the hilt with knick-knacks. Their idea of "antiques" is most people's idea of furniture left behind on the sidewalk or picked up from a garage sale. The overwhelming amount of clutter makes it impossible to really clean the place and it is very dusty. I think that's why I got bug bites two of the nights I slept there. We slept in the Beatrice Room which is completely unacceptable for more than one person staying more than 1 night. While the website did mention it did not have a separate bathroom, it failed to mention the lack of a closet. So technically that cannot legally even be considered a bedroom. There was one very narrow chest of (small) drawers (if you can call it that) that was not enough for all our stuff. We were allotted one shelf in a hallway closet to put our luggage as there literally would not have been enough space for us to even walk around the bed in the room.... The front door practically touched the bed on the one side and there was barely a foot on the other side. There should only be a twin size bed in this room. People want to feel at least somewhat comfortable when on vacation... Worse than that, the sheets were not clean. Not only was there lint from the dryer but also some strands of hair. Given we were there for 3 nights and especially as we were literally the only guests on the first night and one of very few the following night, it certainly would've been a nice gesture if the innkeepers would have offered us a different room. That is what real service-oriented hotels do. Even large chain hotels do that. The "3-course" breakfast consists of extremely sugary and heavy dishes. Also, not sure how they come up with the 3 courses unless you count half a banana in a cup a course. The OJ they served tasted like powdery mix. Might be nice if the innkeepers at least offered people a bit of a choice or even the availability of some healthier options like oatmeal, yogurt or whole fruit with no cream on it. The website also creates the false illusion of a fireplace which was the main reason my boyfriend and I picked this place. Vermont - winter = fireplace, right? But we soon found out that it was for decorative purposes only as it is "not economically efficient to use fireplaces in VT..." With all due respect to the owners, the incredible number of overwhelmingly raving reviews both on Yelp and especially on Trip Advisor seriously makes me scratch my head and wonder about the true origin of the authors... If the reviews sound too good to be true, they probably are... I do not like to write negative reviews and rarely even review places, but given that the hotel represented itself to be something it's not, I felt I had to write this. While the owners of the Fullerton Inn are not the nicest, at least their rooms are nice, the breakfast is generously amazing with lots of choices and they have a huge wood-burning fireplace. The town of Chester does not appear to be very economically successful. It would be wise if the businesses there and especially the inns tried to up their game so they can get more visitors. read more

Warmest, most generous hosts you will ever meet. Lovely, fun place full of interesting period objects. Big breakfast included. Family style seating which suits us because we get to chat, learn about other guests' travels and insights. Quiet, comfortable room with everything you could want: frig/freezer/tv/bathtub. Elderly friends drove over to visit with us AFTER we discovered how few Chester restaurants were open for lunch on that August day. We bought takeout and, even though we had checked out, Victoria owner/host, Dan, invited us to use the dining room and living room for that visit. Would return anytime. This was my first time in Vermont. I really felt like I was a part of an extended family at Inn Victoria. Dan and Penny were perfect hosts and really know how to run a bed and breakfast. The room was very clean when I arrived. The breakfasts were excellent and filling. I don't know how anyone could complain. The Christmas dinner was outstanding. We stayed here back in early August for our 5 year wedding anniversary. I am just now writing this review because we wanted to block this visit out unfortunately. After reading a recent review from someone on TripAdvisor that had a similar experience with Rose a week ago, I felt compelled to shed more light on Rose and Larry as stand in innkeepers. We were so excited to stay here after reading all of the amazing reviews. Trip Advisor has never let us down! At first, I had great communication from Penny, the owner before our stay and expected her and her husband to be there when we arrived. We weren't told that they would be out of town and that their friends would be watching the inn during our stay. We met Rose and Larry who informed us they would be there to assist us instead. Larry was great. Rose on the other hand, should not be in customer service or the hospitality industry at all. She complains about how much work it is to take care of the inn but brags about how much the owners trust her to do so, and constantly tells her personal stories intruding on guests space. She asks A LOT of questions. During breakfast, if you don't eat her food she will literally come over and ask if you why and if you don't like it. It is very awkward. I watched her do this with other guests as well and noticed they try to avoid her. She also hovers and tries to make conversations with people while eating-also awkward. She doesn't understand the line between being friendly and letting guests enjoy each other. We weren't there to visit Rose and hear her life story. There was one very young waitress that also seemed to clean the rooms. She seemed new and tried hard although Rose was all over her. My husband and I were very excited about the high tea option that is free if you are staying there. I had asked Penny in advance to plan this for us. On our second day luckily I mentioned to Rose we were excited about it because she immediately got very defensive and said "I didn't know about any high tea. You have to make reservations for that. Penny didn't mention that." I calmly explained Penny and I had set this up over email.She huffed "Well Penny didn't tell me about it but okay. You two are the only ones scheduled for it then!" and we left for the morning. When we got back, she apologized and said Penny had actually emailed her but she missed it. Now the "high tea" was spoiled and we felt obligated to sit through it. Luckily, the food prepared was amazing and we really enjoyed it. We were shocked at how Rose responded to us though. Even if there had been a mixup, she was incredibly rude. We stayed in the Princess Victoria room. It was a nice room. Best part was the lovely bathroom and jacuzzi tub. The bed definitely needs a new mattress and they need to add some lamps. It was so dark. We requested a lamp be brought up but that never happened. The one lamp in the adjoining room had cobwebs all over it. The rooms were cleaned very late which I assume was because they only had one person do it. Long story short we were highly disappointed. Especially since this was supposed to be our 5 year wedding anniversary trip. We actually tried to avoid spending time in the communal areas of the inn just to avoid Rose. We really feel like if the actual owners had been there, we might have had an entirely different experience. We feel this should have been told to us in advance. We left the Inn Victoria a day early. My husband and I were so dissatisfied we decided to leave and find somewhere better whether we got our money back or not. Luckily we did get our money back for the last night. She asked us if anything was wrong but we didn't feel like there was anything that could be done to make the stay better. You can't change someone's personality. We couldn't tell her ummm... you are a terrible host? Rose should NOT be left in charge of this place. My honest opinion to the owners-big mistake. Larry is amazing. Rose will bring your inn down. I don't leave many bad reviews but this woman should not be in hospitality or customer service. We have stayed in bed and breakfasts before and had a wonderful time. This was just one big flop. After combing through the reviews, it looks like most people had a great time when the original owners hosted. We just probably went on the wrong week. read more

In the heart of Vermont, in picturesque Chester Village. You will feel like you just entered a Jane Austen novel and, if you are very lucky, Mr. Darcy will appear in full costume. (Truly, the owner dresses as Mr. Darcy with top hat and full costume.) Tea is served to guests at 3PM and what a tea it is! The rooms will take you happily back to the Victorian Era with their lovely furnishings. Lest you think you must live like Jane Austen, every modern convenience has been provided. Flashlights are put out for an evening's stroll through the village. Water is always in the fridge. And chocolate cake and brownies mysteriously appear as you return from your evening constitutional. If you will be anywhere near Chester Vermont, reserve yourself yourself a spot at this magical place. You will enjoy it and your innkeepers, Dan and Penny. This is a three season inn -- Summer, Fall, Winter. Early Spring is mud season in Vermont, so check then if they are open. Enjoy your stay. read more
