Love it here. Free…read morecompletely free - no admission fee, no parking fee. Very friendly people. Small business vibes. Follow your maps and once you cross the bridge they have tons of signs to direct you, hard to get lost. Trust they're hours, we showed up in the pouring rain and they're still open 9am-5pm weekdays. As soon as you walk in you'll get free samples. We sampled 5 cheeses and 2 grades of maple syrup - it sells itself. One cheese is made with unpasteurized milk - others include sharp cheddar, sage, smoked. Convinced me to try traveling home with cheese for the first time. Tons of products available for sell including from other farms as well. I recommend picking up some of the Red Kite Candy caramels they have there. If you liked it as much as me their factory is about a 30 min drive away. Other activities include petting animals (not in winter), walking trail, and self guided tour of their maple house. Wasn't able to do the trail in the rain but I would estimate you can do all of this in 2 hours. Not at all like Billings Farm if you're concerned about going to both or only have time for one. Billings has an admission fee, no samples of milk or cheese though the make both. More of a museum but they do have up close interactions with their cows (even in winter) for the kids, butter churning, candle dipping. Recommend Billing for taking kids on homesteading field trip, Sugarbush a quick stop for foodie/charcuterie person IMPORTANT: They do NOT sell sugarbush products at any of the stores in Woodstock so don't plan to buy more later and have regrets like us - we looked in every store and couldn't find it. Not sure about Quechee though. Products can also be ordered online and shipped

Weather got a little hariy getting there with the slushy roads, but we made it! It's pretty remote location with no street lights, so if driving in the dark look for the signs to get there and trust your GPS. There's a large parking lot across from the entrance to the little store/shop. The shop is actually the owners old family home I belive. We arrived pretty much at closing time, but we were still welcomed warmly. We got a cheese & maple syrup tasting which was yum and informative, and the staff member that did it was really nice, I forgot her name, but see photo below. One of the cheeses has won a cheese competition, very cool. We also got to meet the owner, but she was busy getting Christmas orders together. I perused all of the cheeses I wanted and settled on 4. We got to try 2 out of the 4 from the cheese sampling. The nice lady that checked me out even gave me some nice to-go samples as well. The smoked cheese was my fav, and the sage. But I enjoyed them all. I was able to easily fly home to TX with them due to the cold weather of the season. After the tasting, we got to peruse the store. They have so much other stuff to buy in additon to cheese and maple, tons of knick-knacks and gifts and merch. We didn't get to explore the farm after since it was pitch black when we left, too bad. Enjoy!

This is a review of the guided quarry tour. I went here on a rainy Thursday morning in September…read more Bought tickets online for the guided quarry tour ahead of time. The meeting place was the visitor center. Got there early. We watched an 8-minute video at the visitor center. Though optional, the video would help you visualize and understand some things that would be discussed during the tour. We then had a quick orientation about the tour and house rules before driving to the observation site which was located at a different site. There were no shuttles that would take visitors to and from the observation site. You will have to use your own vehicle. We and other visitors on that tour followed the tour guide with the convoy of our cars to the observation site of the quarry. Rainfall was moderate at that time. Our tour guide lent us umbrellas. The tour went on but we did not stay there as long as we should have because of the weather. We learned interesting bits of information and saw a nice view from above; however, if you are expecting to go down the quarry near the turquiose water, you will be disappointed because that will not happen. The tour is just at the observation deck above the quarry. After this, one can go back to the visitor center area and do the self-guided tour at the building beside the it which houses workers who do different sculptures, etchings on the granite for tombstones, etc. The experience was alright overall.

Had a fascinating tour here this autumn! This is the largest deep-hole quarry in the world!! It's…read morearound 600 feet deep and half filled with a beautiful turquoise pool of water that contrasts so perfectly against the varying shades of the cool, gray granite! You can only see the magnificence of the massive quarry on a guided tour but it's very reasonably priced at $6.50 per person. You pay and meet at the visitor center and then your guide will take you up. Their website mentions that they shuttle you - but actually you follow the guide up in your own car. You do have to drive up a gravel road but it is a slow drive uphill and is well maintained - we had zero issues. They run several tours a day but it's seasonal - looks like they start running tours around June. I visited in early October. I highly recommend the tour - our guide was engaging, fun, and soooo full of fascinating facts about the quarry! It was established in the Victorian Era (1885) and was mostly worked by the Scottish!! How random, right?? Apparently the Scots were expert granite harvesters! There's so much more fun info - no more spoilers from me! So the tour is fun but the star of the show is the view up at the top - I mean, the quarry itself is quite a sight - but you also have gorgeous views of the Vermont hills and it's even more striking in the autumn splendor!! The visitor center itself is like a museum! So much history and fun facts! They provide granite for so many headstones - and tons of famous ones. There's also a gift shop, clean bathrooms, and even an outdoor bowling alley! They also have a huge pile of "grout" which is just scrap pieces of granite (a Scottish word for it haha) - and you are free to take whatever you want from the pile at no charge!

The American Revolutionary War's Battle of Hubbardton took place in the Vermont village of…read moreHubbardton during the Saratoga campaign. The New Hampshire Grants were a disputed region at the time that was claimed by New York, New Hampshire, and the independent government of Vermont. After leaving Fort Ticonderoga, British forces led by General Simon Fraser caught up with the American rear guard of the retreating soldiers early on July 7, 1777. It was the only battle in Vermont during the revolution as the Battle of Bennington was actually fought in New York. The marker for that battle is in Bennington https://www.yelp.com/biz/bennington-battle-monument-bennington?hrid=2mYSueSCcpnX9G-6ZwZAuA. This obelisk monument is about 20 feet tall made of white stone denoting "The only battle fought in Vermont during the Revolution" and "The Green Mountain Boys Fought Bravely." The British soldiers suffered enough casualties from the engagement that they decided not to pursue the main American army any farther. While the majority of the British soldiers traveled to Skenesboro to reunite with Burgoyne's army, the numerous American prisoners were sent to Ticonderoga. The majority of the dispersed American survivors moved on to join St. Clair's force as it advanced toward the Hudson River. Here at the Hubbarton Battlefield State Historic Site, there is a walking path and caption signs throughout that denote some of the more crucial locations of the engagement. You can expect to spend an hour or so walking the route. [Review 18478 overall - 77 in Vermont - round number 2000 of 2022.]
