A Gainesville tradition this is the original Inn Between Deli. Gone is the couple that used to run the place. I had so much fun antagonizing them - it was sooooo easy. Gosh, I can no longer even remember their names. Anyway, the sandwiches have not changed (a good thing). You can order whatever sandwich you want so long as it's turkey or roast beef and if they haven't already sold out for the day. The bread is always soft and fresh as is the half slice of cheese food, mayonnaise, and that signature dot of mustard. Long live the Inn Between Deli! read more

This place sells sandwiches. Nothing more, nothing less and definitely not anything fancy. The choices are limited and pretty basic. I have to disclose that I like sandwiches with ALL the toppings! Lol Sliced meat: ham, turkey, or roast beef. Bread: Kaiser roll, honey wheat or rye. They also have pimento cheese and chicken salad. Ordered a Turkey sandwich on a Kaiser roll. Came with mayonnaise, mustard and a sliced pickle on the sandwich. The roll had a great taste to it, very soft and it was the star of the show. The turkey was turkey. I would have liked another pickle to cover the other half of the sandwich. Once I got it home, I doctored it up. Added more mustard, oregano, pickles, raw onions and a tomato. Then it was good!! A few additions go along way. Can't say that I'd patronize them again because there's not anything I could get here that I can't make at home. But hey, shoot your hair and check them out. read more

I used to get sandwiches from here back when I was in high school, 94 - 98. Nothing fancy, just good sandwiches. So when I found out they were still open, but under new managment I had to see if it was still the same. Yes. They. Were. Now that I know that, I'll definitely come by when I'm back in town visiting family throughout the year. This is one of those places I'm glad to see hasn't changed a bit over the years. Please update your menu & prices on line. We came the other day and I paid $11.00 for a turkey sandwich and a bag of chips and water to drink. The young man told me it was the same price as a combo even if I just had water. That doesn't seem right. The menu on line say $5.00 sandwiches and $1.50 for chips. ‍ read more

Fresh bread, good quality meats, cold premium pickles and too much mayonnaise make this decades old local sandwich shop rock. It's consistent and delicious even with all that cursed mayo. Nothing personifies southern living more then being simple, from basic necessities to even the food. Inn between deli has simplicity down to a science with their sandwiches. They have turkey, ham, and roast beef sandwiches on wheat or a poppy seed roll topped with Swiss cheese and a generous amount of mayo. From what I've heard all their ingredients come in fresh daily, so only the freshest sandwiches come out of this place. I'm amazed how simple the sandwich is and how there's always steady stream of locals coming in during lunch time. The staff there is very friendly and take pride in what they do and make. read more

My fellow foodie friend and I received some sandwiches from the IBD today as a gift. Thoughts on a few things: Mayo- generous, but balanced by ample mustard. Pickles- not overpowering. But not everyone likes them. Conclusion: nothing super special about the sandwiches, but we'd be happy to have them again. read more

Inn Between Deli - two men eating a sandwich - Delis Near Me - Gainesville, Georgia

This is obviously a local shrine to the "take-it-the-way-it-comes or go away" method of sandwich sales. Calling it a Deli, is too much of a stretch. So let's get to specifics ... people are friendly enough, but their Food Safe Handling certificate was expired (actually as of yesterday 12/2/2013) ... and the cleanliness left a lot to be desired. I ate the ham & cheese on wheat sandwich, but did so against my better judgement. As to that sandwich? Mayo was the number one ingredient by weight, then came the bread, cheese, pickle, and finally the ham. If you need to make sure your sandwich slides smoothly down your throat ... then this mayo "slider" is for you. If you prefer to chew and swallow on your own ... well, let's just say I scraped both pieces of bread, and still had enough mayo for two normal sandwiches (and I am a mayo lover ... so me writing this about the sandwich ... understand that the mayo was about 1/4 inch deep on both bread slices ... truly!). As to the store ... dingy, dirty, and in need of maintenance. The soda fountain was broken, they had no ice, the carpets were stained, the drinks coolers had condensation containers (ok, recycled Cool Whip containers) under the coils/drains, and there seemed to be a lot of self applied pesticide spray containers tucked here and there, along with a wheel chair and very strange wall mounted memorabilia. Only two tables in the place, a three-top and a four-top. Chairs were mix and match, including white plastic lawn chairs. Front glass window was dirty. Kind of a Bates Motel type of vibe. I won't one-star it, but it barely makes two. read more

I've been eating Inn Between since before I can remember. Growing up in Gainesville it was one of the "things" that you did. The new owners are fantastic, same sandwich recipes as before but they've cleaned the place up (a bit, it still has to have that classic Inn Between vibe) and they will make your sandwich the way you want it, if you don't like mayo or mustard. I recommend the turkey or ham on a roll, the way they make it. There's a reason the sammich was made that way forever and ever by the original owners. read more

Delicious, no fuss sandwiches. I went to college in Gainesville and frequented this spot, conveniently located just off campus. A creature of habit, nine times out of 10, I ordered the same "turkey on a roll" - which is deli turkey, mayo, cheese and pickle on a fresh poppyseed roll, and it's deceptively simple. Since moving away, I've tried and tried (and tried!) to recreate this sandwich with no luck. Found myself in Gainesville today and stopped in for lunch. So I've only been going to Inn Between Deli since the brothers have taken it over. Let me tell you, this place is by far one of the top eateries that I love to eat at in Gainesville. A small, family run sandwich joint that oozes tradition and local history. I try to get by there as much as possible to get my roast beef on a poppy see roll and my turkey on rye. The meat is succulent and juicy, the pickles are crisp and tart, the bread is fluffy and tender and they top all that with a perfect portion of mayo and mustard. Almost deceptively simple. Can a turkey sandwich with mayo and mustard be that delicious? Yes folks. It can. In a world where most restaurants are trying to add the fanciest and newest tweaks to their recipes, this sandwich shop keeps it simple. And it pays off.
