The Inn at MeadowCroft was an absolutely incredible getaway for my partner and me. The owner, Bill, and his team made us feel so welcomed from our first interaction on the phone to the second we departed. We loved how he checked in on us during breakfast each morning and gave great suggestions on things to do around Swoope and Staunton. I very much enjoyed having Bill share all the details about the working farm as well- and allowing us to walk the farm and property as we please. Anyone visiting must make sure to walk the property to see the beautiful working farms all around. Also, be sure to ask about the history and buildings of the Inn! They sure know how to accomplish big dreams! I had never stayed at an Inn before- and now I will always make sure that is the only place I book. From the bed, to the aesthetics inside, to the heated floors- I was beyond comfortable. I was also ecstatic to find out that breakfast was being made for us and was not a continental breakfast! Each morning was a different meal and we even got to try to Meadowcroft pepper jam which was delicious. While many reviews mention that there was no one to greet you at the office- it was explained ahead of time to call and let the Inn know when you are planning on arriving. They want to be there for you, but they have a working farm, cannery, and more! Walk around the property if you're waiting to be greeted, it's gorgeous. You'll fall in love with the property, animals, owners and staff. We hope to come back through Virginia and if we do- I know I will be staying at the Inn at MeadowCroft! Staying at the Inn was the first time my husband and I had travelled since the start of the pandemic. We wanted a small place, in the country, but close enough to restaurants and outdoor activities. We were absolutely floored by our experience here! We stayed three nights in the honeymoon suite because we liked the idea of having a fireplace (it was perfect while enjoying an evening bottle of wine!). The suite is spacious, very comfortable, and beautifully decorated, and the architectural details are stunning. (All the other rooms in the Inn are just as lovely - something we got to see for ourselves because Bill, the wonderful owner, allowed us to explore all of them since we were the only guests for the first two nights.) Aletha prepared delicious breakfasts, which were served with a fun dose of conversation with Bill, who enjoyed sharing stories of his farm and the Inn as much as we enjoyed listening to them. During the days, we spent time hiking (Natural Bridge, Humpback Rocks), visiting some local wineries, and spending dinnertime in nearby Staunton (which boasts some wonderful restaurants). At night, as the sun began to set, I loved exploring the grounds of the Inn, wandering up the hill behind it, listening to the cows and the sheep, seeing the stars, and revelling in the peacefulness of the countryside. Absolute joy! Staying at the Inn was balm to the soul. We were warmly welcomed, treated like family friends, and left refreshed and relaxed. We can't wait to go back! read more

This place is the perfect combination of centuries old cabins and quality new construction. Even in the cold snowy weather, the entire suite was warm and cozy, thanks to the heated floors and the gas fireplace. Every detail of the place was done in the highest quality. We were also given a wonderful tour of the farm and pickle factory! One of the most beautiful pieces of land I have ever seen. This is a place that must be experienced, not only the buildings and the grounds but the hosts Judie and Bill are so kind and generous. They went out of the way to find out what they could make us for breakfast, and the fresh blueberry pancakes and bacon were amazing. We will be telling all our friends!! read more

We stayed at the Inn at MeadowCroft for our 24th wedding anniversary. We can't say enough about the Inn and the owners. It was super clean and the restoration of the main building and cabins were top notch. We stayed in the Jacob Swoope room. It has a blue stone gas fireplace and a copper tub with a very modern walk in shower. The breakfast was excellent and served in the main building. We took a tour of the farm with Bill Croft and learned the history of the property. They have the Meadowcroft Cannery near the Inn and we really like the Kettle Applebutter and Strawberry Jam. Looking forward to unplugging from our busy life and going there soon (although they have high speed Internet). read more

The Inn at MeadowCroft is a five star honor worthy, destination stay. Nestled in the mountains and farmland, of Swoope, VA, you will surely delight in the visions and charm. The accommodations were very lovely, clean and offered a truly warm county/rustic decor of comfort. The hospitality surpassed all expectations, beginning with a delicious breakfast plate each day. A morning excursion, which introduced us to a newly born calf in addition to laying our eyes on sheep in frolic, was an endearing experience. We just returned from our third visit in a little over a year! The Inn has become one of our favorite vacation spots. It's so peaceful and the surrounding farm land is just gorgeous. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the beds are comfortable! They serve a full breakfast and cater to any special diet/food restrictions you may have. The owners, Bill and Judie Croft, are the BEST!!! And Judy McIlwee and Cindy are just as good. We take daily excursions to Staunton and local antique stores and then at night, we sit on the front porch, enjoying an "adult beverage " and watch the sunset. We were so pleased by our stay at the Inn. It was in a perfect location, close enough to a city to get a nice dinner out but in such a remote and quiet setting in the country. The sunsets were beautiful on the farm and we enjoyed watching them at the top of the hill. We loved sitting on the porch and reading while watching all the beautiful birds. The breakfast was delicious each morning. We loved the banana pancakes with bacon. The room was cozy and had a really comfy bed. The owners were accommodating and treated us like family. We were sad to leave after being treated so well for a few days! We would love to come back to the Inn at Meadowcroft very soon! read more

The Inn is incredible. How often can you stay in a beautifully restored cabin (circa 1795)? The hand-hewn logs were still in perfect condition and the antiques placed throughout the room did not go unnoticed. We loved the modern bathroom with walk-in shower. Morning on the porch was magical - the smell of the countryside, the rising sun, the absolute quietness other than the moo of a distant cow. This place is a treasure. Homemade country breakfast was so great, we even grabbed a jar of their apple butter on the way out. Be sure to call when you're about 15min out before check-in - this is a working farm! We pulled in at 5pm and were promptly greeted by Bill (Judie's husband). He checked us in and gave us a brief tour of the building and the farm. Our room was spacious and well appointed, and the bathroom with the slipper claw foot tub was very nice. It was modern but maintained much of the character we appreciate. Breakfast was excellent, and included an impromptu lesson from Bill on (re)construction of the premises. Unfortunately Judie was under the weather, so we didn't get a chance to meet her during our one night stay, she was easy to deal with over the phone and was attentive to our needs. My family had the occasion to stay at the Inn last weekend and we were thoroughly happy with our stay. Mr. Bill welcomed us upon our arrival and we instantly felt like we'd met a true friend. He was warm and engaging and a fantastic conversationalist! The Inn itself was so clean and beautiful. Our rooms were spotless, the mattress and bedding were very comfortable and the bathroom with the insulated claw-foot tub was luxurious!!! We had the pleasurer of spending a night with our gracious hostess and host, Judy and Bill, as we traveled through Virginia. From the moment we pulled into the parking area we felt like we were welcome. The surroundings and the accommodations were truly remarkable. We felt like we truly had stepped back in time. Our evening was remarkably restful as was our night's sleep. The following morning was equally as rewarding, welcomed by our host and treated to a marvelous country breakfast. Amazing building with so much history. We were awed by the authenticity and quality of the renovation. Our cabin looked like a project done by Barnyard Builders. The breakfast was superb. Staunton is a short drive and we had an enjoyable dinner at Blu Pointe. The only negative, and it is a small one, is that some prom goers were having professional pictures taken and their family members sat on the front porch of our cabin like they owned the place. My wife took a last minute 3-day weekend getaway to the southern Southern Shenandoah valley last Friday -Sunday. So glad we chose to stay at the Inn. This is a great place to stay and enjoy the region. Our room was wonderful and Croft's were fantastic hosts. Beautiful and peaceful getaway! We stayed one night for a quick getaway in the Jacob Swoope Sr. room which was very rustic and charming. The fireplace and large copper bath tub were such sweet romantic additions! We met and chatted with one of the owners Bill who was very pleasant and accommodating and the inn also provided a delicious plated breakfast! Would absolutely recommend for anyone seeking a restful time out or a romantic getaway!! read more

The Inn at MeadowCroft is a hidden gem. We were trying to find a place to stay in the area on google and found it. It is absolutely beautiful and pristine. Mrs. Judie had the vision for the Inn and Mr. Bill executed it. We travel a lot and this was one of the nicest places we have stayed. Mr Bill even took us out with him in the afternoon to check on the cattle which was an added treat. We will definitely be coming back to stay. read more

A new definition of quiet, we were treated great by the owner. Being the only guests on the night we stayed. We had full run of the place, very quiet and great for stargazing! Rooms were good and very old feeling. Although bathroom was modern we felt like we had gone back in time. Breakfast in the morning was great! The Eliza Trent Swoope Suite was absolutely lovely and a perfect place to relax away. It truly was circa1795 yet with the modern amenities. We enjoyed our carry out dinner from Staunton's Zynodoa in the beautifully appointed dining room under the chandelier and in front of the fireplace. We have enjoyed their relishes/preserves for years since we tasted them at a holiday fair in Hartford Ct. Saw the Inn on their website and booked a Sat./Sun. What a great place! Beautiful countryside. Well-kept historical farmhouse. Gracious hosts. Nice breakfast. And don't forget the relishes. Best in Show! Very restful. The room was quaint and gorgeous.
