It has been stunningly…read morerestored to its original log walls and heavy ceiling beams, fireplaces everywhere, and a rustic country setting. The Innkeepers are unfailingly kind and accommodating. So hospitable. Nice wrap-around porch well appointed with rocking chairs (which we enjoyed in only the sunrise hours as it is July and brutally hot and humid.) The B&B is fully air conditioned with individual settings for each guest room. We stayed in the Silk Room, which is enormous! In the antebellum era, silkworms were raised in there and fed harvested mulberry leaves. Modern amenities such as walk-in showers are blended well with the historic features so that there is no jarring sense of disconnect. Breakfast is served each morning by the Innkeepers and is a feast for the eye as well as the palate. Coffee, tea, and ice are available in the dining room 24 hours. There is a shared refrigerator and microwave for guests' convenience. The common parlors downstairs are tastefully furnished with good antique pieces. We loved our brief stay, the last two nights of a two-week honeymoon. Back again someday? Hope so!

Nice place to stay in this remote area. We were a bit far from the park where we wanted to hike…read more(Shenandoah) but we did enjoy it still. Not much to do around so do not be disappointed if you still chose to come here. See it as a peaceful retreat. We did enjoy the Massanutten water park and the ice skating ring in Bridgewater for a new year eve with the kids! The Inn is a nice old house that has a lot of charme with the cracking floors. The owner is a very nice and friendly person. She made us some very good and filling home made breakfasts (except for the pancakes.... we did not found to our taste). We did also really appreciate the hot tube in the evening after our hike in the cold air of the mountains. The lower rating of 4 stars will be only for the fact we thought the place was not that clean : dust but hardwood floor not forgiving and bed sheets not pristine clean. Few items in china were not clean by previous user. Most certainly due to the fact that this is an old house with a lot of stuff around and tough to maintain alone? Won t blame her for that so much. We were also in the upstairs apartment with 2 rooms (kids were with us) which is in the old part of the house and does not look like the pictures you can see. Much older. The barn, which might be called cottage and or the other rooms for fewer people should be much nicer. But we found the price reasonable and at the end we will come back and still recommend it to other.

Thanks Mary! The grounds were beautiful and the bicycles made exploring around fun!! I have never slept as well as I did in the 4 post bed seriously, i will be back for the sound sleep alone.

For the most part the room was clean, but there were some small details that could have been better tended. The mirror in the bathroom needed wiped down and the sink faucet had some dusting of makeup powder for a previous visitor. There were some spots on the carpet that were missed during vacuuming. I would guess their water system is on a well as there was some sulfur odor from the water during showering. That being said the water was soft...so much so that rinsing soap away was difficult. We grabbed the brunch in the tavern in the morning. My husband had the farmhouse bowl which he enjoyed immensely. My pumpkin french toast was delicious as well. The Bloody Mary was tasty with the perfect amount of heat. The room was advertised as alloying a discount on brunch, however we were charged full price. The meal was very good, so we paid with no complaints, but if you stay and then eat, be sure to make sure to get your discount. Overall the stay was great. Just a few small items as mentioned, but nothing that would stop me from visiting again... well except maybe for the sulfur smell shower. We would definitely have brunch there again.

Today's chicken and waffles included three chicken nugget like pieces on top of the waffle whereas last months was considerably more chicken and ham breaded strips. See attached photos. The first second we got there, the innkeeper was inviting and he offered us homemade cookies (which were sooooo good). Then he brought us to our room which was the Blue Ridge. The room was absolutely perfect and very clean. It had a gorgeous view of the mountains and the downtown area. We also ordered chocolate covered strawberries to celebrate my boyfriend and my 4th anniversary and they were very tasty-- we got 12 for $25. In the room also came a book with recommendations for restaurants, sites to visit around the area, and shopping. It also included how many miles away from the inn... very thorough! Breakfast was also amazing. Genuinely it was so so so good!! The scrambled eggs were fluffy, the pancakes with blueberry compote were so light and delicious, and who doesn't love bacon? They had coffee brewing at 7:00 am and had a wide variety of teas. Overall for our overnight stay, we paid I believe roughly $200 which seems totally worth it!! Especially in comparison to the other inns in the area. If we come back to the area, I will for sure go back to the Friendly City Inn!
