Bold Rock Nellysford Cidery - Classic Cheeseburger*

Bold Rock Cidery feels like such a VA staple. If you're a cider person you have to check this…read morecharming spot out. It's family friendly and has a lot of easy parking. There is plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Do know it can get packed on weekends so outdoor seating can be harder to come by. The Cidery overlooks a huge field below that is good for kids and pets to run around. They have a huge selection of cider. They also offer a cider that you can only get at the taproom. We recently went on Mother's Day and they were doing a cute brunch and giving out free carnations. I enjoyed their classic cider and exclusive one. They have a pretty big food menu which is nice. The food is good for what it is. My group really liked the pretzels. I'd recommending stopping by.

We chose to give a 10% tip since we had to pay for the carryout food before we knew what it would be like. Our two salads, which were acceptable but nothing special, seemed smaller than the ones we noticed people eating in the restaurant while we waited on our food. The blackened chicken sandwich was good, but the homemade chips were mostly burnt, too crunchy, and had a bitter taste that precluded eating them. Several less-cooked chips were soggy and soft. About 10% were cooked properly and were fairly tasty. I would not recommend this restaurant for takeout, but the meals we noticed the in-person patrons eating did appear better.

My husband and I visited Devils Grill on our three day weekend Covid getaway to Wintergreen Resort…read more We ended up dining her for both Friday night and Saturday night dinner both at 815 pm. And then returned for a delicious brunch on Sunday morning before heading home. The wine selection was not what my husband or I would like to drink with a nice dinner, but when we asked our waiter if there was a more extensive list she was able to check the back and came out with a delicious wine (Caymus) that we both love and were so glad they had on hand. The pricing for the bottle was also excellent, not an extravagant up charge. Julia was our waitress both evenings and she was absolutely fabulous, excellent taste in meal choices and so attentive. With covid having made some of the dining options at Wintergreen close it was so nice to have this location available for a nicer meal. Our first night we enjoyed the chefs special broccoli/cheese soup, Pear & Goat Salad, chefs special of Duck, and the Classic New York Style Cheesecake. All were FABULOUS. The second evening we enjoyed the Soup De Jour, Pear & Goat Salad, baby gem Caesar, Sea scallops, and the Creme Brûlée. All our food was absolutely delicious and cooked exactly to what we ordered. 10/10 would recommend this place and we will most definitely return on our next trip to wintergreen.

Yes, I may have had high expectations but I did lower them understanding the "mountain mafia." The restaurant is actually nice but the food was flat. Warning: I asked about the oysters and the waitress said they are "fresh, brought from the Chesapeake Bay Bi-WEEKLY" -cheese board was appeared chopped by a teenager and was of gas station deli quality, scoop of generic jelly and some indistinguishable vegetable and pickled onions and carrots. -pork chop was actually pork loin, not seasoned well, and served on a swampy mash and succotash. -shrimp and grits was served on a clump of grit, with near uncooked sausage and vegetables. -table bread was frozen rolls, and the serve had to be prompted for butter. -cocktails were good. -flan bread pudding was tasty but small. This restaurant has so much potential and I'll give it another try, for lunch. I honestly expected way more for my membership.

I have stayed here many times and will return. The main Inn is a converted stable so each small…read moreroom is identical size and configuration, with a full size bed, small desk, and ikea type armoire-closet. Each room has different art, much of it original art and prints creates by the proprietor Kathy. This place is perfect for a group due to the gathering areas like the wonderful outdoor patio/deck and the indoor living room. And the price point is very group and family friendly. One of the reasons the price point is so great is because there are shared bathrooms down the hall rather than in your room. There are two, one for men and one for women, each has two commodes and two showers, one shower of which is ADA compliant. There is also another bathroom on the other end of the hall that is just a commode and sink. The bathroom is always very clean and I seldom bump into anyone there. If you're staying here with a group or family it's only going to be your people in the bathroom anyway. You can put some items in the shared refrigerator in the kitchen, there are glassware and plates as needed (just wash them when you're done). Breakfast is an assortment of homemade muffins and breads, jam, bitter, fresh fruit, coffee, or tea. I usually bring some hard boiled eggs or cheese, and keep it in the fridge. The proprietor is Kathy and Martin are super kind and are happy to provide suggestions about restaurants, wineries, swimming holes, etc. The property is on many acres in rural Faber, but is quite convenient to route 151 i.e. about eight minutes drive from Devils Backbone, and also about equidistant to Route 29. I've stayed here probably a dozen times with groups of friends and love it.

The inn was transformed from a horse barn into a lodging filled with artifacts from the innkeeper's international travels. It is homey and warm with lots of space to sit and enjoy your day's adventures. Breakfast is delicious homemade breads and muffins. Bathrooms are communal but private. The view is beautiful as it is nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We have stayed there twice and will stay again when we return in the fall.
