Great spot! Wine is good and atmosphere is great! The have an expansive patio with various outdoor seating that can be reserved for either a small fee or free. We got a flight and charcuterie board as well as a sandwich. Staff was very friendly and helpful in selecting wine. Definitely recommend!

Very pretty property, although crowded on the weekends. Our group reserved a picnic table pod, which cost around $40. It was advertised for up to 12, but it was challenging to squeeze our party of 10 on the picnic table. We did have a server though as part of our seating, which was nice. We were able to order some snacks as well as flights. Was a bit on the pricier side for wineries in the area, but overall, wine was good as were the snacks.

Scintilla NV - really nice color and bubbles to, most similar to a drier Brut Viognier- my favorite white wine here Momentarius white - sauvignon esque, really good with kettle chips Claret- great blend with Merlot

This was our second stop on our vineyard day out in Charlottesville. I loved the ambiance and the big patio they had at Veritas. However, the wine was not my favorite. I went with a wine flight, and the sauvignon blanc was almost not drinkable. The reds were a little better though, and many people in our group preferred the reds over the whites. We also shared the hummus platter which had a lot of fresh veggies and tasty bread that came with it. All in all, it wasn't a hit or miss. If you're looking for a place with a big patio, this would be a good option.

I have been to this winery before years ago and wanted to take my friend back here. We both got the wine flights that included both red and white wines. The wines are excellent here and the place has such cozy vibes with plenty of seating outside. I bought a bottle of their red to bring to my friend. Wish we were here earlier in the day to spend more time but we had to leave since they wer setting up for an event that evening

I really liked this winery! It was so pretty. They have so many places you can go to walk around and enjoy the view with your wine. We ordered the hummus board and the cheese board and it was so delicious. I would recommend this place! The service was really nice and pleasant. I had no complaints.

This is a beautiful winery property. We were staying nearby so we dropped in to pick up a chilled bottle to take to our cabin. So we did not do a tasting (next time). The staff was very friendly. People were eating on a nice outdoor porch.

Loved this vineyard. So cute. Plenty of seating. Adorable porch seating with the flowers. The staff is kind and the cheese board is to good. I also had the wine flight. They were all decently solid. Overall a very cute winery and one of the better ones I've gone to so far.

Absolute perfection! And the Claret 23! That was the best wine I had in all 3 wineries that we visited. I cannot wait to come back to Veritas! 10/10

This was our second stop on a wine tasting adventure, and it was great. There was a bit of a long wait at the bar, but once we got our wine and got seated, we relaxed into the afternoon. The tasting room is pretty as are the grounds and the property as well cut. The tasting board is absolutely worth it and they serve the wine in these cute little bottles on the board. This was overall a cool experience.

    Indoor tasting room.

The beauty of this venue is apparent as soon as you drive up. There are both outdoor and indoor seating available. The outdoor seating is preferable with the gorgeous view of the vineyards and surrounding. A shaded patio provides optimal seating for a hot summer day. Picnic tables are also available on a spot that looks perfect for a wedding reception imo. I had never been to a tasting before. Our server answered all my questions patiently and provided us with prompt and friendly service. This was a perfect spot and stop for our day trip.

Veritas is such a beautiful place. I stayed a night at The Farmhouse which was the perfect bed and breakfast experience. I didn't spend too much time at the winery because I went to Veritas Illuminated, which was cute and fun! But I love that the winery stays open late for Veritas Illuminated. After we finished the trail, we went in for a glass of their port wine, which was delicious, and their grilled cheese and short rib hoagie which were pretty good too.

Sounds like a wonderful place, is it kid-friendly?

I disagree about a previous answer here. Wineries are wonderful for children if they have an open field for frisbee or soccer or just playing. Let's not forget a normal, fun picnic. Not everyone has to drink wine to enjoy themselves at these… Read more

It was so nice to spend time at an unpretentious winery (other wineries have weird rules unrelated to Covid).

The best part by far was the stained glass window. The gardens were probably once beautiful but it's been decaying so much over the years that all you see are just sad remnants. WARNING: if you have severe asthma, do NOT visit. My father has moderate asthma and was only able to stay inside for about fifteen minutes before his throat started to close up due to the must. The place itself smells musty- not a BAD or rotten smell but just old. There's a feeling of immense love and sadness in the house and it's imperative that you learn the rich history of the house to truly appreciate it. The inside of the palace is only only open to the public on certain days of the year and not all the rooms are open. I was very satisfied with what rooms were open.

While the Maymont Estate in Richmond is a much more expansive visitor experience today, this hidden gem, modeled after the Villa de Medici in Rome, is certainly worth a stop, either on one of their open house weekends ($6 fee) or just to see in person from the outside. The real belle of the ball is inside - the 4,000 piece Tiffany stained glass window of Mrs. Dooley, which is a backdrop to the grand central staircase and artistic domed ceiling. There are plenty of interesting fireplaces, doorways and tower views. You will certainly notice the musty presence of mold throughout the building with various walls and ceilings falling apart. The grounds include some terraced gardens and somewhat restricted views of the surrounding area. It is a shame the interior of the building is in such a state of disrepair and the property hasn't been kept up, as it could be an amazing special event space. Still, people apparently elect to have weddings there, even though there is no running water and everything would have to be brought in. There is a no trespassing sign on the front door, so the inside is only accessible on one of the special open house days. The grounds are easy to walk around and being on top of the mountain it has a nice temperature, at least 5-10 degrees below of Charlottesville. Visiting should certainly be a part of any UVA student's bucket list, much like watching the sunrise/sunset from the peak of the quick Humpback Rocks hike.

I started researching various wineries and vineyards along the Monticello Wine Trail, because we had stayed at B&B in Charlottesville once a number of years ago. I settled on Afton Mountain Vineyards and I am SO glad we found it. We booked an overnight stay in one of their cabins. The very modern, well-appointed cabins can be rented even on weekdays when the winery itself is not open for tasting hours (we checked in yesterday, on a Wednesday). A sleepover at a winery! What a great thing to add to my summer adventures! The whole property is beautiful; very peaceful and serene. We enjoyed wine we had purchased earlier in the day on the back porch last evening and then coffee this morning. Our checkout time was 11:00 this morning, so we headed to the tasting room then. I wanted to try their Albarino wine. We purchased two glasses from a lovely employee in the tasting room, and sat outside for over an hour just soaking in the gorgeous scenery. They have thought of every amenity.

Rehearsal Dinner The first signs of trouble appeared here. Despite our wedding planner reaching out hours before the event, Jason (the owner) never responded. He was responsible for providing tables and chairs for 40 guests but brought enough for less than a third. While the food was acceptable, it did not match the quality we experienced during our tasting. Wedding Day Our wedding had about 135 guests; per the contract, the catering team was supposed to arrive 3 hours early to assist with setup, food prep, and drinks. Instead, most staff and food arrived late and during the ceremony. Jason was not on-site and could not be reached until well after the event began. The bartenders arrived on time but with no direction and without mixers (also part of the contract), forcing our planner to purchase them out of pocket. Luckily we provided the alcohol so we at least had beer and wine. Because of their late arrival and lack of organization, we had to delay happy hour, dinner, and the reception. When food was finally served, many agreed-upon dishes were missing, including gluten-free options for guests with dietary restrictions. Portions were inconsistent, and they ultimately ran out of food, leaving 20+ guests--including our band and planner--without dinner. Jason did not arrive until after 8 PM (seven hours late) and offered no apology or solution to running out of food. After the Event The team was contracted to handle cleanup, breakdown and trash removal, but this was minimally worked on. Our planner stayed until midnight to clean what she could, after Jason and his staff had left. The next day, my wife, several guests and I spent the whole morning finishing what Jason hadn't done. Afterwards, while my wife and I are trying to enjoy our honeymoon and recover from the disaster he created with our wedding, he harassed my wife about getting all of the items he had left at the venue (we had to take them and store them in our trailer so we didn't get charged by the venue). He didn't have the decency to communicate during the wedding or make efforts to correct his mistakes, but he sure could call and text us non-stop when it was impacting his pocket book. You might wonder if there were warning signs. Honestly, there weren't--until the rehearsal dinner. Leading up to the wedding, Jason was responsive and helpful. He provided a wonderful tasting, he even met us a couple months in advance to walk venue and discuss our needs and coordinate with our wedding planner. He even worked with us to design a menu that accommodated multiple dietary restrictions. He seemed professional and committed. However, on the day of, he was overcommitted and underperformed. The food quality was nowhere near what we had at the tasting. It seemed either Jason didn't prepare the food himself (the head chef onsite was not Jason) or he cannot scale his recipes. Most dishes were bland, poorly cooked, or inedible. Jason may be a fine chef, but he is not a caterer. Something though that really defines who Jason and LFA Catering is, not once, to this day have we received an apology for everything that happened. In fact, during any conversation, with us or anyone else involved, he has only made excuses and tried to defend his actions saying he did the best he could. I'm sorry, but if that's the attitude you plan to have, I could not in good conscious recommend him to anyone for any catering needs. After reading another review where he no called and no showed, I feel lucky we at least received some food and services. I truly feel for those people. I hope whoever has spent the time to read this and their review, learn from our mistakes and stay as far away as possible from this company.
