It was a beautiful fall day so we made the drive to Mooresville to have lunch at Gray Brothers…read moreCafeteria. We went in and the first thing I saw was a large fireplace - lovely! The restaurant was neat, very clean and beautifully decorated. There were several more fireplaces throughout the restaurant, which I loved. We got in the service line and the workers there were very kind and patient with us as we scanned the large selection of food. I finally settled on the fried chicken, au gratin potatoes and green beans. My husband also had fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy and a piece of cherry pie. When we were looking around for a table, a polite young man approached me and asked me if he could help me with my tray, which I GREATLY appreciated. He took it and carefully placed it on the table we selected. I thought this was a very nice touch. The chicken looked good, and it was well- seasoned but not as crispy as I like it. The bones inside were black - so it was Tyson chicken or some such, I'm sure. It was done, but again, not as well-done as I like. The au gratin potatoes were very, VERY cheesy - good, but a bit too rich for my taste. The green beans were well-seasoned and I enjoyed them. My husband thought the fried chicken was too salty, but I didn't find that to be the case. He liked the mashed potatoes and gravy. I took a bite of his cherry pie - he sprinkled sugar on it because he thought it was too tart, but I thought it was good and regretted not getting a piece of it myself. Perhaps a little ice cream on top of it would have been a nice addition. All in all, it was a good meal at a nice, homey restaurant with wonderful service. I would love to come back on a cold day when they might have the fireplaces lit.

I had some barbecue ribs with a sweet but tangy sauce. My wife enjoyed the chicken parmigiana with garlic bread. The other offerings looked fantastic especially the pies and cakes! We hope to visit again when we are in the area.

I'm a big food hall fan and this one does not disappoint! It's newish and still looks pristine…read more There's a ton of awesome vendors, even beyond just food options, which is cool to see. There's a lot of seating scattered through, including outside, which can sometimes get tight in food halls, so I love to see that, too. A few more highlights for me... + Twenty Two the juice spot has been fabulous both times I've had the pleasure of trying them. + Pumpkinfish is a retail gift shop that has so many cool things! They do a great job at curating the items, everything ranging from Indy themed knick knacks to locally made art and jewelry, all quirky and unique. + The variety of food they have is amazing. Everything from Greek, Asian-fusion, Mexican, and ice cream to a bakery, poke, pizza, burgers, and more. There's something for everyone. Overall, Indy is lucky to have a place like this. If I lived nearby, I would be here all the time!

There's food stalls for just about all the cuisines you can think of, as well as a gift shop, barber shop, and a clothing store. There's also a lot of other businesses nearby for your entertainment! Every food stall operates about the same way, where you order at their counter and you get a buzzer for when your food is done, so you can still sit down with your crew while you wait. This space also does host events sometimes, with a game night social every Tuesday 6-9 PM, with board games galore that you can take around with you. They have also had March Madness watch parties there in the past. Take care of when these events occur, because it can get super crowded in there. The Garage still maintains some of the Bottleworks charm by having some of the old machinery on display. One thing that I wish was improved about The Garage is that there should be more trash cans and tray collections around. These can be hard to find with all the commotion of The Garage.

MCL Restaurant & Bakery - Your typical MCL meal

Sometimes, you do things for the story. Or in my case, for the Yelp review. I had a lot of MCL gift…read morecards that were burning a roast-beef-Manhattan-sized hole in my pocketbook, and I needed to do something with them. So one weekday, I brought my family to this cafeteria-style restaurant that sounds like a medical condition. ("I tore my MCL and the doctor thinks I might be out of commission for another six weeks.") I mean, MCL is fine. You get to pick what you want to eat from a smorgasbord of random foods. I thought my children might like this novelty, and I was right. They liked picking out what they wanted to eat, as opposed to what they were used to, which is me serving them a specific meal. Can it be that we can choose blue Jello for dinner?! And strawberry shortcake! And spaghetti! And chicken nuggets with fries! Yes, my children -- go wild. In the end, both of my kids chose chicken nuggets with fries. Because ... kids. They thought the nuggs were a bit hard, even with lots of ketchup. We also got the breaded catfish and the fried chicken, which I would also describe as "hard." I guess you should expect a certain amount of hardness from something that's breaded, but these things tasted like they had been under the heat lamp for a spell. I'm also not sure how MCL manages to produce food that's incredibly salty but also lacking in flavor. They are an enigma! I do recommend the steamed broccoli. MCL knows how to steam a broccoli just right. When I visited on a Monday, MCL was bustling with customers. But despite all of the people there, the restaurant was quiet. They don't play any music here, or at least they didn't when I visited, so it's a good place to visit if you want some cafeteria-style food and also need to talk in low tones. I kind of like that they didn't play any music in the dining room, and so did my oldest child, who usually listens to music all the time. Sometimes, you just don't need music! Especially when you're tucking into a plate of liver and onions. I learned that you can get DoorDash from MCL, if you gotta get your carved roast beef but don't want to leave the house.

I really like MCL food. But I just wish there was a way for the food to be covered to keep it hot…read more When we got to our table and sat down most of the sides were cool, so we had to bag up and take it home to microwave. Most people like their meal hot like it was just cooked. Maybe the servers could start taking the food from the bottom instead of the top. I think that would help. But I will continue to try to enjoy MCL as long as the prices stay doable. Good Food!

Cafe 1924 - Gyro bowl from restaurant rotation - not good...

All that is visible from the atrium is a grab and go and I honestly thought that was all they put in as the new cafeteria. Anyway, once you find it, it's actually quite good. They have a bunch of stations including a Sushi Boss location with a limited menu, but same quality as from a regular Sushi Boss location. The roll I had was excellent. They have rotating stations as well; I had a fabulous bowl with all kinds of grains, vegetables and grilled salmon at a previous visit for a very reasonable price. Here's the tricky part...after you find the cafeteria, the next step in the challenge is to figure out how to order. Most of the stations use tablets that are stationed around the area. This is basically kiosk ordering with an extra step of selecting the station first (e.g sushi, pizza, grill, etc). pro tip...after you order you can proceed directly to challenge 3 which is paying. Go to the payment stations and scan the QR code on your receipt along with any other items you'd like such as beverages or snacks. You then pay and can go back to wait for your food without then having to wait to pay while your food gets cold...hope this makes sense! I have NO IDEA how it tracks that people have paid before they leave as no receipt is issued...there are staff around that are probably watching, but there must be some other mystery mechanism....Just to add a wrinkle...there are some stations that don't use the kiosk...haven't tried those yet so not sure if you just order with the human making the food and then they give you a receipt to scan and pay or if a human has to help with payment too...there is one staffed checkout lane, so that might be the deal... Anyway, this is a very hidden, but decent new option for food on the med center campus!

It definitely takes longer to order and get your food than the old cafeteria set up did. There is only one soda stand for the space in a highly trafficked area. I have only seen people changing the trash cans but have never seen anyone wiping down the tables. There used to be sanitizing wipes that you could clean your own table but haven't seen them for months. Sorry I'm being so negative, but I feel a hospital cafeteria should be held to a higher standard for cleanliness.

I had the Fish Sandwich Special ($14) that came with fries and slaw. The breaded fish was hot! I loved the finely shredded lettuce and thin sliced onion and tomato. The sandwich was hard to eat because it was so big. The coleslaw was creamy and sweet. The fries were good. My husband had the Pork Tenderloin ($9) with fries. He put the tenderloin up on his "top five" list, which is quite an honor. The tenderloin was massive, moist with a perfectly seasoned breading. The brioche style roll was a nice touch. We had a lovely server who was accommodating as she could be but she was serving to large parties. One was about 16 people the other 12 and then our little party of 4 We ordered drinks but my friend ordered gin and tonic. They brought 2 different drinks, never tasting good and settled on a coke We asked about an offering on the menu. Turns out it is $29.99 for mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, green beans. No chicken. We asked how many pieces are served in a chicken order and our server noted 2 or 3. We saw liver and gizzards and our server said they could make them a dinner ($29.99). We ordered those and it was a full dinner plate full. More than we could eat Eating on the "folding table" we were served food on Walmart dishware. They used to bring peppermint ice cream or syrup for a Sunday. It was served in a serving nice bowl. Now you get chocolate, butterscotch or strawberry in a squeeze bottle. Just another thing to cheapen the experience. Will I go back again? No way, after experiencing the before and after it is like going to a business that is struggling at the expense of the customer experience. I believe we could have eaten in Popeyes and had just as good of an experience $100 cheaper. Another Indianapolis tradition like Ayres tearoom slipping away.
