Honestly, this place is magical. It's part bookstore, part typewriter retail and repair shop, part venue, part gift store. I'm a writer by profession, so to be surrounded by books and 'zines and magazines and comics, AND the instruments by which to create these things? It makes a person feel a certain sort of way, you know? Indy Type Shop is freaking fantastic.
When I visited, the owners were busy setting up for a book swap event, which they kindly told me all about and invited me to stay and participate. I had no books to trade, but I'll definitely be back for the next one in the coming months.
Indy Type Shop is the type of place where you'll find gifts for the extraordinary people in your life. The kind of people who appreciate old things with history and a story behind them. Along with a shockingly large number of vintage typewriters for sale, you'll also find things like old typesetting letters, vintage cameras, matchbooks, art prints, and all sorts of precious, one-of-a-kind relics from a time when people used typewriters. There are also lots of books, including a huge collection of poetry. There's also a shelf with 'zines, which don't have a set price, but you're encouraged to make an offer.
This place is unique and wonderful, and I'm so glad that it exists in Indianapolis. read more
