I usually stop by while at the Eaton Centre every time I am in the area. It's always pretty busy. It looks like a larger version of the Sherway Gardens location with a giant staircase. Sometimes, the escalator is under maintenance. Also, the upper level/floor entrance seems to be closed (at least more recently). There are a lot of books, kids stuff, apparel and stationery, etc. Shelves look well stocked. Also, these nook/smaller areas give off some quieter moments like in a library. read more

I love a bookstore. With so many of them having closed, it's beautiful to see a large two story bookstore still around and filled to the brim with readers! The store had great sections with staff picks. I loved the diverse offerings and the suggestions by staff highlighted. Besides books- they also had games, home items and music. I used to shop at the store much more than I do now. What drew me in was the large selection of knitting and crochet books. They're all gone. This is a big mistake as Knitters are not on the book lovers, but great fans of stationery items. As this store no longer has a good selection of knitting books to draw me in, I purchase my books and stationary elsewhere. read more

I was power walking in the Eaton Centre when familiar branding caught my eye. They have a whole wall of Dash mini appliances at this location! They were all the same teal aesthetic too. I noticed that they didn't have the waffle maker that is carried by a lot of other retailers but they did have the egg bite maker (that makes the little egg muffins/quiches), egg cooker (for making boiled eggs), rice cooker, hand mixer, air fryer, stand up mixing bowl, and pepper mill (which I haven't seen before). I would love to have a kitchen with all these matching appliances. Being that it's May now, they are in full Mother's Day swing. They have curated books and gifts for mom. Not entirely sure who put the list of things together as I saw a variety of portable Bluetooth speakers, grow your own lavender kits, as well as cozy home items like throws and robes. I also spied that they are teeing up for dad as well in the same sections. They had some gift books that had prompts to fill in about why dad is the best and coupon books for helping dad out with chores or for quality time and the like. For some reason I find myself in stores like Indigo when I'm on vacation. Sure, they have books back home, but you never know what you may find, right? Indigo Books Music & More is essentially the Canadian version of Barnes & Noble, but with a more refreshing feel to it. I don't know, maybe it's the lighting but it has such a relaxing and welcoming vibe that it literally draws you in and keeps you there for longer than you would ever expect a bookstore to do. Yes, it sells books, stationary, magazines, coloring books and more for modest prices. Some things I did think were a little overpriced, but it's all relative I suppose. The checkout line was extremely easy to move through (yes I bought things) and the cashier was extremely friendly (yes, Canadians are friendly, we Americans know this well by now). It's location is perfect, being in the Eaton Centre it's kind of a natural hub for locals and tourists as well. And they even have a Starbucks inside, what more could you ask for? read more

There are many Indigo stores, but this is my favorite of them all. I like this particular location for a few reasons. Number one is the staff. I've had funny conversations with staff members about: 1. The guest appearance they had of grumpy cat. That's pretty funny. How does a cat make a guest appearance? 2. Where stuff is 3. How to use the computers there to search for stuff. Okay so only the first one was actually funny, but the staff here are always super friendly and helpful! Haha Second of all, they have great selection of items (besides books) including: 1. Magazines (yep, people still buy those) 2. Toys (for gifts, I swear I don't play with Tonka trucks anymore. The one you saw me buy was for my sisters kid. Who is 16. Okay fine, it was for me!!) 3. Impulse buys in the line up bins (some fairly useful things here) 4. Greeting cards 5. I find this location a bit crowded. They certainly pack a lot of stuff into the floor space that they have here. Considering this location is at Eatons Centre they should have a larger location.The Starbucks is very busy as well & it's hard to get a seat as individuals who want to just sit & work will occupy a table for two for hours. I will say though that all the staff I've encountered here are nice. This place gets crazy busy during the Christmas rush & the line to cash out is always ridiculously long. I think it was a miscalculation on their part to put the cash right in the middle of the store. Better to have it to on a side wall side so it doesn't impede people from trying to get to the displays. But I suppose if their aim is to make it difficult for you to leave (hence increasing the chance you'll buy more stuff that catches your eye) then they have successfully done that. I avoid this location during Christmas as it's too much of a madhouse for me. Years past when I did come here during Christmas I would have to endure long line ups & end up leaving really annoyed. this location sets the standard for all indigo stores, the customer service is top notch, this location is super clean, including the bathrooms(where I have had issues at other indigo's) what has driven me to write a review about this location in specifically. I found a book that I liked...no, that I loved from first glance, I took the book up to cash and the cashier had a once over on the book, and noticed it had a tear in the jacket of the hardcover book, without even asking 15% was taken off my order. needless to say I was blown away, and because of this outstanding act of customer service, this location is where I will be spending my money. really happy with everything to do with this location. transit options are the subway and a couple of busses. the location in the mall is directly in the middle and taking up a couple of floors. could spend a day at this location, and I have in the past. read more

I bought a magnet-backed notepad for my fridge here that is moose-themed. It has smaller notes up top and longer paper on the bottom of the pad (like for to-do lists). Whenever I walk by my fridge, I laugh at the little sayings, like "it moose be done." When in Canada.. But really. This store in the Eaton Centre is wonderful! It's so big and I wish I could have spent more time wandering through the levels of books, gifts and other items. Prices seemed reasonable as well. read more

Do not ever order from Indigo on line. They have shipped my order 3 times to an incorrect address. The customer service staff are really great and very apologetic; however they cannot fix a system that does not work. After waiting a minimum of 25 minutes to reach someone, they correct the shipping address, apologize profusely, and then the order goes out again but still to the original incorrect address. This has been an exercise in frustration. read more

Lookit: we all know what the inside of an Indigo looks like. There are shelves and shelves with cutesy callouts like "What's Hot" and "Staff Picks" and other scammy headers to make some books seem like Superbooks. They're not. Who cares. What I'm here to do is spill a secret of epic proportions. Why? Because, dear reader, I love you. The Eaton Centre washrooms are generally very slum-like (without all the colourful whimsy of that Danny Boyle movie) and I like to avoid them at all costs. But the well-hidden Indigo loo is a serene, rarely-used lavatory oasis in the heart of this sometimes-cruel shopping centre. And a Dyson hand dryer? Just... wow. I'm not going to draw you a fucking map, because I don't need every Tom, Dick and Harry destroying my personal sanctuary in the mall. But if you can find it: enjoy. Don't say I never did anything nice for you guys. Obligatory Title Pun: It's the perfect place to (indi)GO. Menu Readability: ENN. Eh? Need to mention: There's a Starbucks in here as well. The one store at the mall that I can always feel comfortable walking in to kill time. I love everything about bookstores (yes I know it's a large corporation and that there are smaller bookstores around the city that really have their own charming atmosphere about them), I'm a huge fan of reading and any one that feels similar will find it hard to resist the exciting anticipation of getting the chance to flip through and smell (yes I said smell) new books about almost anything under the sun that you could want. I've had hit and misses when selecting from the "Heather's Picks" Section and I always enjoy going through their "Staff Favourites" as there's always something interesting under that list. If you're a frequent buyer, I recommend the irewards membership but only get it if you're certain you will spend a certain amount on books (and not magazines though). If you do happen to get the membership, they still allow you to return the card back with your $20 having subtracted any discounts you might have received with it (aka if you had saved 50cents on a purchase and then decide to return the card, you will only get $19.50 back), It's also nice to see free wifi even in the Starbucks here. It does not get 5 stars simply because I do think a lot of the items are overpriced and they really could do with a better stationary (and the likes) section since while everything there is very pretty, not a lot of practical options to choose from. Great for gift ideas though. read more

I had the best customer service experience today that I've ever had at an Indigo store. I was looking for a copy of "Born to Run". I looked it up in the computer to find out what section it was in and then went to hunt for the single copy the computer said they had. When I couldn't find it I found an employee to give me a hand. She did the usual stuff by double checking the section it was in and looking in a few other spots it might be hidden in like staff picks. Usually at this point the employee will just tell me sorry, try one of the other stores listed in the computer. This employee went above and beyond by actually phoning another store and offering to have a copy brought over. I opted just to go pick it up and she asked them to hold it for me. I really like this location because of the size of the store and the abundance of selection. You can always find the book you're looking for. The staff are always helpful and try to put the customer first. There is also a great Starbucks on the second floor with a neat view of the city hall area. The store loses a point because the majority of books sold online on their website are drastically cheaper than their in-store prices. Their stores cannot price match their own website and blame Amazon as the reason why online prices are cheaper. I recently bought a book online for $21 and had it shipped to the store for free where they were selling it to customers for $33. My advice is to buy online and ship it to the store. read more

One of my favorite ways to kill time at the Eaton Centre. Fantastic zine selection and lots of open seating to peruse books/magazines at your leisure. I know that this is a chain/big box...whatever you want to classify it as bookstore, and that this is a deal breaker for some, BUT I have never felt any pressure from staff to purchase, which cannot be said when casually browsing in some of the smaller independent mom & pop shops. Added bonus#1-I know that this has absolutely nothing to do with Indigo save for its location, but there is a first rate hot dog cart on Albert St. (within spitting distance) of Indigo, and I have enjoyed the hot dog/magazine combo experience on more than one occasion. Added bonus#2-The large windows over looking the small adjacent court yard are also ideal for people watching if thats your thing. read more

Being so close to the World's Biggest Bookstore (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/worlds-biggest-bookstore-toronto), which in terms of selection is going to be the store to beat in any case, it should be hard for any other bookstores in a block-or-two radius to compete. Being inside the Eaton Centre (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/toronto-eaton-centre-toronto) to get some mall traffic, the Indigo in the Eaton Centre does its best to provide good service and selection. A two-storey affair on the upper level of the Eaton Centre, the book store provides a decent selection of books and accessories in a store layout that's fairly pleasing. A central staircase leading to the upper level curls its way through the store providing a fairly elegant focus. The stacks are well organized, and the staff are helpful as well. Traffic is probably the only problem with this particular venue. Because of the mall traffic, and the amount of people coming in and out purchasing books and the like, there tends to be a constant din and buzz in the store, making it not as enjoyable a setting to sit and read for a while. But given that this is in one of the most high traffic malls in the city, that may not be the intention anyway. There's other stores for that for sure. read more

The employees here are wonderful! Truth be told, I don't usually go to book stores but I've been wandering in and out of this store for a few days now in contemplation of what to get a friend for his birthday. At every visit, I've been approached by at least one employee who asked to see how I was doing or whether I needed assistance. The cashier was also courteous and wore a friendly smile on his face. The only downside of this store is that probably because of its location and amount of customers a day, the shelves are a bit disorganized thus making it really hard to find a book you want. I come to this location rather frequently for work and for personal purposes. In terms of customer service, there's always someone around to answer questions and usually when I'm looking for a section to try and locate a book, one of the Indigo team members has approached me and asked me what I'm looking for. They're rather knowledgeable and will do what they can to help! I came in today and I had my headphones on, partially because I didn't want to be bothered while I poked around for the book I wanted. I like to walk around and see what they have in store, what's on sale, what's on feature... its a nice experience and usually better to do without being interrupted by staff :) I was looking for The Hunger Games and I saw it on my way in but wanted to see if I could find Game of Thrones as well. I found it rather quickly and some other titles that I wanted to price out. In terms of the selection, I doubt there's many bookstores in Toronto that have the selection that this location has. I've shopped here for everything from kids books, tween novels, non-fiction, fiction, and non-book materials and have never had an issue locating what I'm looking for. This particular store usually has some really good sale tables as well; at least one with non-fiction (usually one geared towards female readers) and usually one non-fiction table that's discounted (some DEEPLY discounted). The number of $2 books I've gotten from this location is absurd! You can't really go wrong with this location!! read more

I really like visiting this Indigo when I'm at the Eaton Centre. I will say that it gets extra hectic around this time of year, and although it's only early November, it does appear that Christmas has exploded all over this store. I like their selection of gifts and home items. This location seemingly also has had a technology upgrade, there's a bit of an apple store thing happening upstairs as well. Overall, worth the visit. I loved this Chapters. Soon as you walk in you get all the new releases, staff picks, Heather's picks, etc. Typically I can find the majority of my take homes here however, I decided to make my way upstairs only to be overwhelmed by way more. The staff was friendly and asked if we needed any assistance. The gift section is plentiful and now that it's summer they have a cute BBQ section (now all I need is a BBQ..) The downside is this place is in such an insanely crowded mall. It's not always my #1 to drive through Dundas sq in order to check out books. I have a love hate relationship with Indigo books. I love Indigo because it's a giant book store, with lots of different books and is usually pretty busy. At the same time however, it's indigo books - when it comes to large retail book stores they are pretty much the game, they own Coles - Smith Books - Chapters - and Worlds biggest. This monopoly on bookstores disturbs me. On top of that they have successfully blocked competition from the market. They are like the Wal-Mart of Canadian bookstores. I digress,Philosophical thoughts aside they are very good at what they do.. The people who work here are very helpful, they are usually very nice. It's laid out nicely, though the fact that they have covered all of their window ledges with books to prevent people from sitting is irritating. I suppose the fact that people would sit there and read entire books kind of sucked too though. I do almost always go in when I am in the Eaton Center, and probably will continue to do so. read more

I love books. This is an okay bookstore but not great. What is great is the HUGE selection of kids games, crafts, and toys. Some really, really neat stuff at good prices. I bought my neice and nephew their Christmas gifts here and there were some tough decisions to be made due to all the fun stuff. My first time ever to visit indigo and surprisingly I found that it had more than just books. Theres lot of other little doodads to look at. Ive been looking for a blackboard or chalkboard whatever for awhile to put in my kitchen but didnt know where to look for one. Indigo had them all this time. Learn something new everyday. I'd chalk this up to just a single shitty store manager, nothing wrong with the actual location itself... That being said my experience here has soured me to the point where I think I will be taking my business elsewhere for good...Either a local, smaller shop or just shop on Amazon. Long story (somewhat) short, while visiting my parents for the holidays I purchased a bluetooth speaker at another indigo in Ajax, less then a week ago. Unfortunately the following day my wallet was either lost or stolen, with my receipt along with it. I'm not sure if the speaker was faulty or just not very good but after about 2 hours of use, I packed the whole thing back up since it kept dropping signal even if I was close by. I called Indigo's Customer Service line to find out what their official return policy is in case of a lost receipt and I was told as long as I have photo ID, and can settle for store credit or an exchange, it should be fine. I decided to drop by this location to return the product for either an exchange or store credit. I spoke to a service rep, explained my situation and he was perfectly nice... said no problem, let me check it and if everything is in order I'll call my manager and we'll get you on your way. Unit checks out. He calls manager.... Who outright refused the unit saying store policy is no returns without receipt. I had the gift card I purchased it with and the plum card I used as well. Not good enough. No returns. Once I told her I bought it at another store she said I have to take it back and return it at that location because they can look up the transaction there. When I asked to speak to the store manager, I was told she is the store manager, and that's that. Not wanting to spend the $25 and 3 hours for the round trip to commute out to Ajax via in an effort to return an $80 item, I figured I would first call the Ajax store. After explaining the situation to them on the phone, an Indigo employee at that location confirmed that the manager here should have taken the unit no problem and just processed it as a "Return Without Receipt", as long as I had some form of ID (which I did), and that whether I return the product downtown or in Ajax makes no difference what so ever. I'm going to head back here tomorrow and get this sorted, but it's fair to say I will never shop here or at any other indigo location again. read more

My opinion is divided. On one hand, Indigo is a physical space where bookworms can congregate and feed their minds. There's just something special about spontaneously walking into a physical store and picking out a book that speaks to your soul. On the other hand, Indigo is becoming less competitive in pricing against Amazon. It is difficult to justify spending an extra $5-10 on a book that can arrive at your doorstep the next day via Amazon Prime. I really do like this Indigo/Chapters location..although the one on Peter St will always hold a special space in my heart. The employees are very friendly and they always have a greeter by the door greeting people as they come in and/or handing out coupons/specials for the day. They have a great and huge selection of home/accessories and gadgets to browse through which is my go to once I enter any chapters/indigo. The only downside to this indigo is I find it a little overwhelming to find a book, the shelves are super high too so to get a book for a short person you have to track down someone tall enough or a worker with a ladder. Also they do have an escalator that goes up..however, going down is another story. They only have a staircase...whhhhhy whyyy whyyyy indigo! read more
