First time setting foot at this location and I am in love. I came in to sign my own books and the staff was super helpful. Really grateful for them! Definitely a location I will coming back to get some books and gifts as well :)

This is a massive Indigo that maximizes customer comfort. There's so much space when you're browsing between the aisles and good separation of areas to make it easy to narrow down your search depending on what you're looking for. It sounds silly but nowadays I rely on Indigo for cool gifts and accessories rather than books. With all the space this one has, they have different sections for children and teens that have seating for you to test drive your book before you drive. There's also a Starbucks where you can grab a drink to enjoy while you read your book in that cafe area or one of the comfy lounge chairs around the store. I was very interested in the gift shop area and the women's apparel they had as well. The Christmas sales are in full swing and the reading socks, holiday greeting cards, and stocking stuffers were all on sale. Some other great areas included the games area that had a wall of boardgames and the baby area which had super soft plushies which I think are just fine for adults as well. One of the most interesting items that I saw was a framed piece of game used net from the 2019 Raptors playoff run that was going for $100. There are multiple checkout areas on the different levels of the store. Don't forget your Plum Rewards card to collect points!

With actress Sally Field at Indigo Bay/Bloor on Oct. 9, 2018. A very fascinating woman.

One of the best bookstores in T.O.'s upper core. Considering that notices about this store's renovation were front-and-centre when I entered the Manulife Centre, I wasn't sure what to expect. However, the design of the renovated site is spectacular, and the service was truly on-point. I came here for a book signing with well-known (I would argue "legendary") actress Sally Field, who came to town to promote her new memoir. Aside from the fact that I'm a collector of signed books, this was a unique opportunity to meet her, as she rarely - if ever - does Canadian appearances and it was a good excuse to get downtown. What I was most impressed with at this location was the attention to making sure the visitor experience for the event was handled smoothly. The staff seems to have a deft touch, whether it's for getting a chair for an elderly patron who would have otherwise had to stand for hours, or dismissing a rude woman who was trying to cut in line under the justification that she was trying to save a seat for her "uncle". (I was told that this is a common occurrence at many of these events, and it didn't help her, because she went for a bathroom break just before seating opened and she was stuck standing way at the back looking miserable, LOL!) It was a surprisingly-small setup for such a major visitor, but that was a blessing, as everyone had good sightlines and everyone who had a book was assigned a signing block based on when they purchased the book, so that there weren't huge lines snaking around the place. I also took the opportunity on this trip to pick up a copy of Howard Green's new book, "Railroader", and had difficulty finding the section it was in (business, non-fiction) until a helpful employee directed me. I never would have found the section had I not been told, and the layout was somewhat confusing, as others have mentioned. If I had any complaints about the place, it's that the washroom situation still hasn't been sorted out there, and I had to go out into the mall to find a place to wash my hands (hey, standing in line for 3 hours while holding a book will inevitably make your hands sweat). Also, this place seems to have a problem with hangers-on trying to get one up on the staff, so their patience is very much appreciated. This is a prime spot for author appearance events, and if I had more time, I'd be up here much more often. While I'm always one to support independent bookstores, this Chapters really delivers a solid, friendly experience, and is one of the best I've visited in recent months. Well worth a look.

really great location that I have been to in the past, but at the end of November I had one of my best experiences. I met Matty Matheson! *see photos!* I was running late due to the subway to get to this location. when I got to the store, I was advised that the signing was done in groups and I had to take a ticket from them, group 12...my heart sunk, I would end up running into my friend who was in group 5 and had an extra ticket for me. PERFECT! the signing went really well and I would have been super sad to be stuck in group 12. the staff here were super helpful during the signing taking peoples jackets and bags, and also taking photos for fans, which I thought was really great. all of the staff handling this experience were super great and they all deserve raises, and I contacted the head office to let them know how they should handle those employees parking options are underground and certain lots in the area transit options are bay subway station and the #6 bay bus both options with a bit of a walk my only complaint, which is my complaint with every indigo store is the pricing, check amazon or indigo for often times better pricing and usually free shipping!

This Indigo's location at Yorkville is the happening place. Seems like most of the book signing or meet the authors are held here. If you want to get a signed copies of some of the cookbooks or novels by celebrities, you can pick up one on the shelf!! Even the Starbucks here a lot of quietly....people talks more softly and feels more like I am in a library... in a way yes! The book collections here are better than a lot of the libraries I been to. I definitely will be come back here to chill!

To me, Indigo is more than just a bookstore. It's also a shelter to escape the rain, the snow and the heat. A place to meet with friends for a cup of joe or an iced cold drink. Love the openness of the upper level and the convenient check-out/cashier on each floor. The fresh flowers in the washroom are a nice touch. What I love even more? Free WiFi.

This location is my regular book store as it is close to my house. It is not quite as large as most but it still has the selection you need. from time to time they hold various events here. Most recently when they were launching the e-reader they had a private event to tell people all about the new product. The staff can be a little sparse at times, but when you do hunt one down they are very knowledgeable and friendly. The cashiers are always quick to get everyone through. No matter how long the line is you won't have to wait very long.

In today listening to a young lady play Chopin beautifully on the piano. A staff member said it was too loud and asked her to keep it down.

I'm pretty well-versed in Toronto's used bookstores from Spadina westward, and I got to tell you,…read moreif you're looking for a operated by two grumpy old white men who feel at ease with making inappropriate judgements about your book selection, then this is the place for you. I was looking for Sylvia Plath's "The Bell Jar" and the stockier gentleman responded "they run out quickly, guess suicidal and mediocre has become in fashion again." This wasn't the only thing I noticed. I was curious about the name "Balfour," and it only occurred to me from the various Israel-themed content in the bookstore that it's most likely commemorative of Arthur Balfour, the British administrator of post-Ottoman Palestine who promised a Jewish state for Zionist Jews in the UK (see "Balfour Declaration, 1917). For a used bookstore that I've been frequenting for at least 8 years now since I've moved to this city, their selection has been consistently in desperate need for non-white authors, especially in their social sciences, religious studies, philosophy, plays, and art sections. The prices, sure, can be low, sometimes lower than other bookstores (especially the smaller, vintage-looking paperbacks at the front), but they've increased over time. $25 dollars for a Foucault book? Come on now! Moral of the story is: if you're a bookworm with a shred of an ethical compass, I implore you to avoid this bookstore at any costs. Don't let the price or the antiquarian section deceive you, Toronto is a reader-heavy city with many competing bookstores that you can visit and indulge your imagination in!

Super warm and wonderful staff! Love this place, will definitely be coming back again many times!read more

A super cute rare book store. The selection was limited but well curated and nothing was…read moreoverpriced. The clerk was friendly but in no way intrusive. Try your luck with the random book vending machine!

We found her way to The Monkey's Paw from a list of unique and unusual Toronto sites. That list…read morespecifically mentioned the book vending machine which I had to try, but as an avid reader and book-collector ("antiquarian" if you're fancy) I was equally interested in simply perusing the store as a whole. The book vending machine-- as of March 2025, for a $5 CAD bill (or credit card), you get a token for the machine which randomly drops a vintage book. I received a hard-cover vintage mystery novel nicely wrapped in a mylar book protective jacket (and a price tag indicating this one was $19.99 at one point). Pretty cool book, pretty recommended experience overall. As to the store itself--friendly proprietor and generally nice layout. But try as I might, I could not find a book to spend my money on. I was intent on purchasing something, and open to splurging a bit. But the closest I came was a 3rd or 4th edition hardcover of Daphne De Maurier's "Don't Look Now" novel printed in the 1970s. I love her work and have many of her books, but not this one which may be her most famous due to the Donald Sutherland film adaptation. However, for $35...I just couldn't quite do it. If it were a first edition, most certainly. If it were $20 for a 4th edition, quite possibly. There were some cool vintage sci-fi paperbacks (Heinlein, Herbert, Aasimov, etc.) that were probably priced in line with the market. But much of the stock reminded me of how "curating" a collection can present items as more valuable than they are. Is a gardening book from the 1950s in VF condition worth $40? Or a map cut out of an old National Geographic matted on cardstock worth $20? I really like the idea of this store and wish them the best because book stores are the coolest places on earth. I just felt everything was about 25% higher than it was likely worth. I would have splurged had I come across a great old edition of a favorite novel, though. Sounds like stock changes regularly and they are set up to encourage perusing, finding something you didn't know you were looking for. Wish them continued success and giving them a solid "3" (which in my book is "good"). Definitely recommend the vending machine!
